Her Lovely Champion: Sapphic Lady Knights, Book 2

Rate this book
A disillusioned lady knight and the princess she never meant to rescue.

Imprisoned in a witch’s tower eighteen years ago, Princess Eliza did not expect to still be waiting. Now past the age of thirty, with several alarming silver strands in her hair, the rescue attempts are growing rarer, and her only companions remain several well-loved bookshelves and her own increasingly lonely mind.

Destitute and out of options, Sir Kaylen accepts the king of Alludan’s doomed quest (and reward) to rescue his daughter. What is meant to be her final act to help her family goes all wrong when she arrives at the witch’s tower to discover, not the deadly hydra waiting for her, but something else entirely.

Together, the weathered knight and sheltered princess face a perilous journey back through the monster-ridden outerlands to civilization, where the monsters only become more human.

As ill-timed attraction ignites, the lines between them blur. Eliza and Kaylen each have expectations tearing them apart. They were never supposed to meet. Will the lady knight who accidentally saved the princess get to keep her?

The second in a series of stand-alone stories set in the same world, this slow-burn, steamy queer romantasy is a sapphic reimagining of classic fairytale tropes. It can be enjoyed alone, or in combination with the first book in the Sapphic Lady Knights series, Her Pretty Knight. This story is intended for adult audiences.

Mariah Rae quit her corporate job in 2022 and wrote a book. And she never stopped.
While her earliest works of fiction and art were plastered boldly to the kitchen walls in her childhood home, it took her another twenty years to gather her courage to share her stories again. Now she writes sapphic tales full of romance and magic.
An artist of many kinds, writing fills Mariah Rae’s creative well to the brim. She lives near the mountains with her spouse and furry children. When not writing, she bakes, lurks in nature, and plays games with her small circle of heart family.

The knight is shorter than the princess!!! I repeat! The knight is shorter than the princess!!
I knew I’d love this book because I think about the first in the series constantly. I’m so glad I was able to read this one finally, it’s been on my brain since Birch published it.
What else can you ask for? There’s fantasy and so much yearning. Birch flipped tropes on their head like she always does. I loved it!
I especially appreciate that this one is a standalone despite it being part of the sapphic lady knights series, so I can reread it whenever it strikes my fancy.
