A year after rescuing her grandmother — only to lose her again — Ennah clings to the fragile peace she’s found in Amador’s arms. But when her aunt dies and the criminal magic syndicate Cágila demands a staggering fee for protection from Damagic, that peace begins to crumble. Desperate for a way out, and thrilled about taking the relationship further, she accepts Amador’s invitation to join him in Sentisse — even though the Mage who once hunted her hasn’t stopped looking.
Years earlier, far from the vineyard, Kayetan begins his Magical training under the renowned Grand Master Vorvalus. But it’s the Grand Master’s daughter, Melena — sharp-tongued, clever, and promised to another — who becomes his greatest distraction. Falling for her was never part of the plan, but their hearts refuse to obey.
As love blossoms in the shadows of duty and deception, Ennah, Kayetan, and Melena must each decide what they’re willing to risk. Love may light the way — or lead them deeper into the dark.
After reading the first book, it was much easier to get into this second book. I knew what to expect and already felt a little bit at home in the world. I was glad though that the author also added some amazing new characters and settings. I loved getting to see a little more of the world, of the rules, of the dangers. I loved seeing more of the magic, the way it's trained, used and abused. It still feels like the actual plot of the entire story has not become clear yet, but since I decided to just enjoy the journey, I actually really liked reading this book. It feels like reading an epic fantasy, but with an easier to grasp writing style and easier to like characters. I'm curious where the story will bring us next!
