Book 2 in the Witches of Astria duology picks right up where book 1 leaves off and the book immediately sucks me in and leaves me in a chokehold the entire way through! The storytelling, world and character building across both books was absolutely phenomenal. This book truly keeps you on the edge of yout seat. Towards the end, I was an absolute emotional mess. Thankfully, the ending was PERFECTION!

Book 2 was fantastic! It picks up right where book 1 ends. The World building continued to be amazing as well as the character growth. In this book we get reunited lovers, found family, “who did this to you?”, tension, sacrifice, loss, side character back stories, and excellent pacing. This one is a conclusion to this duology and the epilogue was so satisfying! Thank you to Meredith and Iris for the early copy!

“When you get hurt, I can’t breathe. I can’t think all I want is to destroy whatever it is that has caused you pain…”

♡☆♡---ARC Review---☆♡☆

After ARC reading The Wielder’s Discovery last year, I was beyond excited to finally dive into its sequel, and it absolutely did not disappoint. It picks up right where book one left off, which I really appreciated (though I did skim the final chapter of book one for a quick refresher). The shift back to third-person POV took me a little time to adjust to after reading so many first-person books lately, but once I settled in, it worked beautifully for the story.

“You are my world. You are what lights up my nights and what gets me out of bed in the morning.”

Compared to its predecessor, this installment eased off slightly on the political intrigue but made up for it with plenty of intensity and unexpected twists. Meredith kept the same sense of urgency that made book one so compelling, and even though this book alternates between Fynn and Nova’s perspectives, the dual POV flowed seamlessly; each storyline clearly connected to the other despite the physical distance between them. I especially loved how, even while apart, Fynn and Nova’s journeys felt intertwined, as if they were always moving toward one another.

“You found me.”
“I told you nothing could keep me away.”

Nova’s growth throughout this book was one of my favorite aspects. Watching her step fully into her power as a Wielder and gain confidence in her abilities was so satisfying. Her inner strength, especially when paired with the quiet comfort she found in thinking of Fynn as her constant supporter, made her such a well-rounded and endearing protagonist. The writing itself showed noticeable improvement from book one: cleaner, tighter, and more emotionally resonant.

“There would be an after. No matter what it took.”

That said, there were still a few pacing issues. Certain sections dragged a bit, and I occasionally felt frustrated by how slowly the plot advanced. However, I do think this was intentional, mirroring the characters’ own struggles with stagnation and uncertainty. It didn’t ruin the experience, but it did make me wish for a slightly sharper momentum.

“Until all the stars in the sky turn to dust and all the oceans run dry. I will love you.”

The emotional payoff of this book was stunning. Meredith wrapped up Fynn and Nova’s arc in a way that felt both satisfying and heartbreaking; tears were shed, and I mean that as the highest compliment. Still, there’s a sense that Astria’s story isn’t over yet; enough questions remain to leave the door open for future adventures. I also have to mention how much I adored the growing relationship between Kael and Nova; it was such a warm, genuine dynamic that added an extra emotional layer to the story. Overall, The Wielder’s Sacrifice was a strong and heartfelt continuation of the series. Meredith delivered a sequel full of emotional depth, growth, and closure while still leaving room for curiosity about what’s to come. I can’t wait to see what she does next.

🖤 THE VIBE CHECK:
Return to Astria in this Epic Fantasy as Nova, Fynn, and their growing found family face impossible odds against forgotten dark magic.
"So much of Astria’s history, lost at the hands of a greedy politician." (Page 234)

Spice: 🔥🔥 Closed-Door Style (2/5)
Edition: Ebook

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

🔮 The Curated Plot
The Wielder’s Sacrifice begins immediately after the events of book one (The Wielder’s Discovery). Nova and Fynn are separated yet both work on damage control following Luc’s death. The problem is much greater than simply clearing Fynn and Jax’s name; however, with the help of a secret rebellion and their growing found family they may have a chance at normalcy.
"But that was the thing about time and circumstances. It often led to places you never imagined going." (Page 264)

💞 The Heart of the Story: Chosen Family
“We are allowed to grieve and feel relieved.” (Page 32)

Nova and Raelyn’s family may not be what it seems, but they grieve and they gain. Their sisterly bond has only strengthened with the discovery of Nova’s birth parents. Their new family starts with them and expands further. Fynn, Esta, Jax, Kael, and many more diverse characters who come together and bond. It was the emotions and connections between these characters that ultimately led to a five star rating. When Nova and Raelyn reunited with their mother, Raella, my vision started to blur and my stomach fluttered. It was such an emotional scene. A sense of relief for Raelyn and understanding for Nova. The tears didn’t stop here, though; the ending is even more emotional!

⭐ The Cozy Conclusion (Rated: 5/5 Curated Coziness)
The Wielder’s Sacrifice was an incredible, emotional Epic Romantasy where love and reciprocation of love has the potential to destroy even the darkest of magic. If you love chosen families, political intrigue and secret rebellions, you need to read The Witches of Astria series.

The Tropes We LOVE:

● Chosen Three / Elemental Magic
● Elves, Humans, & Witches

After being introduced to this author last month when I read The Wielder's Discovery, I was absolutely obsessed and just had to get hold of the next installment in The Witches Of Astria series.

This is the second book in the series and I couldn't wait to dive right in because we had been left on such a cliffhanger in book one, I had to know how things would progress from where we left off.

Now, I can't really talk about anything within the plot - there would definitely be some major spoilers.

I can't even really talk about some of the characters, as again, I hate giving spoilers.

But, I can tell you that this was once again packed full of intrigue, action, magic and of course a little smattering of romance too - and I was there for every second of this!

I think I'm safe to say that in this book, we do see a good amount of Nova learning, practising and honing her magic and this was brilliant to see just how much the whole situation brought out the best in her.

As her powers grew, so did her own self belief and confidence and this in turn really opened up her personality and let her shine through.

I loved the dynamics between all the returning characters - those we saw in book one - many of them developing and evolving.

It was also great to get that injection of the new characters and to see how they slotted themselves into the storyline and added new layers to the elements that we saw in the first book.

I was completely immersed again within this wonderful world and went on this emotional rollercoaster with the characters as they fought to bring down the dark forces.

The world building and character development worked so well and I was on the edge of my seat for the duration - but even when I thought I knew how things would end - there's one final twist that left me shocked!

What a perfect sequel which I'll be thinking about for some time to come.

This series has totally hooked me in and I'm excited to see what comes next from this author.

Wielding witches, battle training, sneaky scheming, angst and yearning, and a plot twist that you’ll never see coming - all oddly specific events that you’ll find in The Wielder’s Sacrifice, book two of The Witches of Astria written by Meredith Kassian.

Meredith hooked me with book 1, The Wielder’s Discovery, and I have been frothing at the maw waiting on book 2. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely. The Wielder’s Sacrifice was everything I’d hoped for and more. Giving slight Buffy the Vampire Slayer vibes (but if she were a witch and the Scooby Gang were elves) with the introduction of the new evil, TWS provided a landscape of enthralling fantasy mixed with cozy tenderness. While the angst, yearning, and longing were top tier and second only to the more steamy romance, the father/daughter relationship development truly stunned me with how endearing and tragic it was. Although the political intrigue was toned down in comparison to book 1, TWS still had a deeply immersive plot filled with major discoveries, hidden agendas, slight political turmoil, and significant character growth throughout.

Now, feel free to join me as I scream into the void because, Meredith, MA’AM, HOW COULD YOU? The gasp I gusped at the end! 🤯 I thought I knew how things were going to end, but that twist was a punch to the gut. Absolutely stunned. The Wielder’s Sacrifice was the perfect follow up to The Wielder’s Discovery!

An exciting conclusion to this duology, this book picks up right where the last finished as the gang has to all work together now to prove innocence and overcome a monster of Luc’s own making that could threaten life as they know it!

I has so much fun reading this series, it is so easy to dive into and is a cozy read not just about their fantasy world, but their relationships between each other and learning to trust. I loved getting to see Fynns point of view in this book more when he was separated from Nova and the adventure he went to on alone and the new characters he got to meet. I also loved getting to see a new side of their mother in this book along with the budding familial relationship Nova was forming with Kael! There were just as many twists and turns in this book and a real sense of them all being on a mission together to save the world and all of that does come with sacrifice. This book had me so happy at some points and crying as I was reading at others and I love getting to read something that makes me feel things! Overall this was a great duology and conclusion to the series and I would love if the author wrote more books in this universe! My rating 4.6/5!

Spice Level: None

This book literally picks up where we left off from The Wielder's Sacrifice. This series has such a great "feel good" vibe and storyline with loads of secrets, suspense, murder, betrayal and magical intrigue. The world-building continues to impress, and the stakes felt higher than ever. I especially loved the evolution of the FMC—she’s powerful, resilient, and finally given space to thrive thanks to a supportive MMC who doesn’t overshadow her but amplifies her strength. Their dynamic felt earned and emotionally satisfying.

That said, the storyline with her father broke me a little. After everything she endured, I was hoping for some kind of reconciliation or healing. The sacrifice?!?! UUUUGGGHHH My HEART is still broken!!! Something I did not see coming!

Still, the pacing kept me engaged, the twists were sharp, and the powers + murder mystery elements added just the right amount of drama. A solid continuation of the series in my opinion, even if it left me a little heart sore.

I’m… still sobbing over this book and the ending and the journey that got us to the ending… oh. my. Goddess. An absolutely fantastic and equally as captivating follow-up to The Wielder’s Discovery! If you weren’t already completely attached to the characters after book one, something is absolutely wrong with you if book 2 doesn’t have you absolutely invested (respectfully, sorry not sorry)! Nova and Fynn, Raelynn and Esta, Jax, KAEL?!? I felt so attached and was so paranoid throughout the whole book trying to figure out what the foreshadowing was going to lead to, or more-so who it was going to lead to. And I was still so, so unprepared.

Thank you so much to Iris Society and the author for allowing me to read an early copy! This review is completely voluntary and my own. It was an absolute honor and incredible journey to read this series!

If you’re looking for your next epic romantasy filled with magic, witches, elves, unlikely alliances, and one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve read in a long time then I highly recommend The Witches of Astria duology!

The story picks up right where The Wielder’s Discovery left off, diving straight back into the action. The world-building expands beautifully, and the fast-paced plot keeps the momentum going from start to finish.

The character development truly shines in this one. I loved watching Nova’s continued growth as she stepped into her power and became a stronger, more confident wielder. We also got a deeper look into some of the other characters, which added so much richness and depth to the story. I especially liked the growth between Kael and Nova.

There’s a perfect balance between high-intensity moments that keep your heart racing and quieter scenes that let you breathe and connect with the characters. The ending was both satisfying and a little heartbreaking. It wrapped up Nova and Fynn’s journey so well, yet still leaves you hoping for more stories from this world.

What a great duology! I’d highly recommend it to anyone who loves heartfelt fantasy, strong character arcs, and immersive storytelling.

Absolutely loved this book. Kasian's writing is direct yet whimsical, making this a fantasy novel even non-fantasy lovers will enjoy. But don't worry, the world of Astria is filled with witches, elves, humans, and tons of magic that drives the story along.

One of my absolute favorite things about this world is the matriarchal structure, especially the religion. Hearing the characters say "Thank Goddess" and "Oh my Goddess" makes me smile every time.

You'll love The Wielder's Sacrifice if you love:

The Wielder's Discovery

Found families

Reunited lovers

Cross country adventures with dangerous elements

matriarchal religions/societies

I had the honor to beta read both TWD and TWS and seeing how Kasian crafted the final product is amazing. This is another great romantasy from her and I can't wait to see the other work she puts out!

The book picks up exactly where the first left off. Nova, Fynn, and the gang are dealing with the death of Luc and the mess it left behind. While Nova continues her training, Fynn is off to clear his name and finds himself trapped in Arkwood by some mysterious dark magic. How do you defeat dark magic without alerting all of Astria to the potentials dangers to the community? Using all of their resources, their magic, and secrets discovered, will Astria stand for further centuries?

As the follow up book to the author's debut novel, the writing has improved immensely. The plot and pace were non stop this book. The storyline wrapped up nicely, while there is still so much potential to discover unearthing the goddesses and history of Astria.

Thank you to the author for the ARC. Opinions are my own.

5/5 Stars ⭐️
The Wielder’s Sacrifice by Meredith Kasian is the perfect continuation of Nova’s journey and honestly, it’s even more intense, emotional, and magical than the first book.
This story dives deeper into the aftermath of past choices as Nova faces the consequences of what’s been set in motion. With new trials, magical training, and a growing sense of responsibility, she’s pushed to her limits in ways she never expected. I loved how the author wove in themes of dark magic, justice, and truth and how every page made me question who could be trusted.

The tension between the characters, the moral gray areas, and the emotional depth made this such a page-turner. Meredith Kasian continues to build a world that feels alive, dangerous, and full of heart. If you thought The Wielder’s Discovery was good, this one raises the stakes in every possible way.

This is a cute modern witchy romance fantasy, heavy on the romance. But also Fade to black so no spicy spice, just vows of undying love.
I enjoyed the authors suspense and those mini cliffhangers at the end of each chapter. The story was good don’t get me wrong, but it lagged for me. I would have liked a deeper plot and plot twists. I felt like there was a lot of talking and not a lot of action. Or the action pieces resolved quickly and didn’t end in any solutions. The story had potential for more deeper layers to peel back and heighten emotion. This one felt YA while reading it, the characters didn’t quite fit that mid 20s age for me. Events were superficial and to the point, you didn’t have to think too much on where the next part was headed.

This is the second book of two books in this series. Love and the power of love is a prevailing theme, as is the coercion, corruption, and danger of unchecked of power. References were made to incidents occurring in the first book. I thought it would have been helpful to give us a reminder right then of what happened for those who read the first book a while back and for new readers. While this did not happen as I wished, you did get it in bits of reminiscence later in the book. I thought the author had some very thoughtful lines that were very relevant in life. But at the same time, I didn’t think the use of the word Fuck was necessary to the story. All in all, it was a very good story with great imagination.

The Wielder’s Sacrifice picks up right where its predecessor leaves off, and sucks you in immediately. With incredibly relatable characters on an epic and emotional roller coaster (you will laugh, but you’ll also need tissues at the end) you won’t want to miss, this was a hard book to put down. I can honestly say that I cannot remember the last time I was so irritated by every day life getting in the way of me reading this book, because I was simply so invested and just needed to know what happens next. If you enjoyed The Wielder’s Discovery, this is a must read to see how Nova, Fynn, Raelynn and their friends’ stories end.

I was so excited to get into this series and let me tell you it did not disappoint :) Even better was that I got to read book 1, The Wielder's Discovery, and immediately jump in to book 2!

What could be better than witches, found family and plot twists that will keep you on your toes.

I absolutely love Nova and her journey. She is determined and strong. I love how Nova grows through the ups and the downs but never gives up. I think the storytelling is also wonderful. It's engaging and well-developed. I also loved the pace and the action. I felt immersed in the story which made it so easy to read.

It's the first time I've ever read this author, but I'll be back for more!

Thank you so much for the eARC of this book! It's definitely a great read!

ARC REVIEW

I want another book with Nova and Fynn. Honestly, this couple is one of my favorites.

The story begins right after the end of the first book. We follow Nova and her friends to a new, more dangerous adventure. Revelations, fights, secrets, and a love that went through a lot, but it managed to survive.

This duology has everything, and honestly, I would love to read another story with Nova, Fynn, and all their friends.

A thrilling, emotional close to The Witches of Astria duology, this sequel ups the stakes and the heartbreak. Nova’s determination and Fynn’s isolation drive a story pulsing with tension and sacrifice. The worldbuilding deepens beautifully—Aerdmure and Arkwood feel alive with danger and magic—and Kasian’s writing shines in moments of raw emotion and power.

That said, a few plot turns feel familiar, but the emotional payoff from the quiet pauses in the pacing more than deliver.

Verdict: A gripping and heartfelt conclusion—rich with magic, love, and loss.

5 stars because I cried in public because of this world - again.

This book picks up immediately where the first one ended, and it doesn't stop! I loved seeing how the characters grew and faced the challenges that came along with their separation. Fynn and Nova are one of my favorite couples and I loved the ending that they got!

The only downside is that this is a duology, and it's completed now, but at least I can always do a reread!

This was a quick read that picks up right where the first book leaves off. It offers good world building and storyline full of twists and turns. The FMC is likeable and powerful, and the MMC isn't overpowering. He compliments the FMC well. The twists and turns kept me engaged in the story, but this one reads more like a YA novel with the closed door spice and some parts not feeling as fleshed out as I would have liked. All in all this was an enjoyable read.

Book two picks up right where book one ends. I think the world-building and pace picked up in book two and made it more enjoyable. I enjoyed exploring the backstory of some of the other characters. It made me more invested in the story. I enjoyed the found family trope in this book, but it felt somewhat juvenile at times. I did not expect the ending at all! I thought I had an idea of how it would end, and was very wrong.
Overall, I enjoyed book two of this duology!

This story will take you through highs and lows but is a beautiful conclusion to the Witches of Atria duology. The sisterhood is still sisterhooding, you’ll meet some new characters, find out more about ones you already know, and it’s hard to say more without giving anything away, but trust me, just read it! You won’t be disappointed.

I thought this was a great wrap up for this duology, though sad because I wasn’t expecting that ending. A lot of sacrifices made in the name of love, but so much that it was predictable or cheesy. I did find myself wishing for a little bit more. I could really see this being turned into a dark romantasy. overall though I’m glad I picked up this book!

This was the absolute perfect end to this duology. This book brought tears to my eyes, twice! And I'm not generally someone that cries while reading!
This story picks up right where book 1 left off at and it starts moving fast. There's no drawn out time frames connecting the two, which is amazing and not something I see frequently.
This is a story that you are not going to want to miss out on. There is love, loss, healing, and strength that comes from it all within this book, and its powerful.

If you’re someone who thinks they “don’t like fantasy,” this book is the perfect exception. It’s accessible, heartfelt, and full of small moments of wonder.

The fantasy elements were woven in so naturally that I never felt overwhelmed, instead, I was genuinely curious about this world and how the characters fit into it.

This beautifully carried on Nova and Flynn's story while increasing the tension through out the story until the very end. Nova and Flynn's love story is amazing and I love the way they support and heal one another. And the sisterly bond between Nova and her sister! I love it when we see sibling bonds forged in trial become only stronger with every trial they face. Amazing finish to this duology!

The Wielder’s Sacrifice was a beautiful ending to this duology. It’s a story about believing in yourself and the power of love. It’s about finding a family that goes deeper than blood, and always remembering to breathe. And, of course, to always start your day with a good cup of coffee.
