To Die For #2

Evil is Forever

Rate this book
In this sizzling sequel to One Killer Night, a special effects artist and a hotshot chef put their shared past to the test to survive a stalker—and their feelings for each other.

It’s been two years since Evie and Chase clawed their way out of the real-life horror movie that would define most people. They’ve finally moved on.

Or so they thought.

Evie’s doing special effects for a new slasher film. Chase is preparing to open his own restaurant. But it’s not work that’s getting to them—it’s each other. While Chase still has his heart-eyed sights set on Evie, she’s got hers on the nearest exit. And she’s dreaming up the best comeback to whatever annoying thing he says next.

So what if he saved her life? She’s already kissed him more than enough times. They’re even now, right?

But when fate (or some nefarious plot) forces them into the same living quarters, things between Evie and Chase go from lukewarm to red hot. Trouble is, their romantic rendezvous aren’t as private as they think.

Someone’s watching. And if they don’t figure out who, their next brush with death could be their last.

I liked it better than the first one!

I think the romance part is just as spicy but funnier and more to my tastes.

Without any spoilers, the stalker / slasher part is stronger, with interesting twists and good tension.

The pacing was faster, and I loved the banter and I think the sort of enemies-to-lovers trope was done right.

I had a good time.

Chase has never tried to hide or downplay his desire for Evie. Through a series of, seemingly, unrelated events, the special effects artist and hotshot chef, end up sharing living quarters.

As they find themselves living another outrageous, nightmare, the ever aloof, Evie, realizes that Chase is, not only the only one she feels safe with, but that he is the only one who will protect her at all costs.

Trilina is the queen of spicy banter! Chase’s smutty dimple. The Hookers?!?! 🫶🏻 Seriously though, there is not another author who can successfully pull off a smutty romcom like Trilina. Not to mention the secondary slasher storyline. Prove me wrong.

This was a fun sequel to One Killer Night where we finally got to see Evie and Chase’s stories. The first book really blew me away so I had some really high expectations and even though I think I like the first book more, I am happy to see our friends again.

You will probably like this book if you like:
🔪 Second book in a duology where there is a killer on the loose
🖤 Hate to love
🔪 He falls first and harder
🖤 Twists

I really loved the glimpses of Chase and Evie in the first book. He says something exceptionally dumb, she puts him in his place, he loves it, she hates it. I think what was a bit tough for me here was that we saw mostly all of Chase’s douchey exterior for the first third and then he became more vulnerable and human. I wish we had seen that earlier because then I would have rooted for them more. Chase is meant to be a man-child and a tad annoying but it feels more endearing when you know he isn’t two dimensional. And you can see why Evie would start to warm up to him. When they do get together, I was in it with them and was happy to see them as a couple.

The book really works in the thriller aspect. The author is able to create a really creepy environment where everything feels like it could be a clue or could give you a jump scare. I felt like the book built well on the spooky history and I liked the twist.

I do think you need to read the first book first before reading this one. Not only because the first book is great but because there are a lot of references to what happened. So if you like the hate to love trope and this intrigues you, start with book one and enjoy the ride.

Thank you Montlake and NetGalley for providing the eARC! All opinions are my own.

Pre-Read Thoughts: I loved the first book in this series and how we get to explore Evie (grumpy, black cat) and Chase (idiot). I, once again, will likely have to read this while it is light out or have nightmares 😂

I rated this book 4.5 Stars

This was such a fun follow‑up to One Killer Night. I loved the new narrators — the duet format works perfectly for Chase and Evie because they feel so different from Noah and Goldie. Their dynamic is its own thing, and the narration really brought out their personalities.

Evie had me laughing out loud from the very beginning. Her dramatic internal monologue, her stubbornness, the way she tries so hard to pretend she doesn’t like Chase… she’s hilarious. And Chase? He absolutely stole this book. In book one he was the clueless, lovable side character, but here he is the sweetest, most determined man alive. The way he slowly wears Evie down, the way he plans and schemes to win her over — it was adorable. He was head‑over‑heels from the start, and it showed in every scene.

The mystery was fun and twisty, and I genuinely didn’t know where it was going. I had theories, I suspected a few people, and I still got thrown off. The setup had me second‑guessing everything — the movie set, the camp lore, the weird coincidences, the creepy moments — and the reveal was wild in a way that felt very slasher‑sequel: bigger, weirder, and leaning into the “fans gone too far” vibe.

What I loved most was Evie’s growth. She starts the book terrified and trying to outrun her trauma, but when everything goes sideways, she shows up. She’s brave, she’s clever, she thinks clearly even when she’s scared, and she becomes her own hero — and Chase’s. Their partnership in the final act was one of my favorite parts of the whole book.

The ending was sweet and satisfying, and I loved the little glimpses of everyone’s future. Chase and Evie together just make sense, and seeing Noah and Goldie thriving made me smile.

I really enjoyed this book. It didn’t hit quite as hard as book one for me — I think the mystery in the first book was tighter and more emotionally layered — but this was still such a great, fun read with characters I genuinely loved. Chase was the star of this one, and Evie absolutely delivered in the end.

This was cute & funnnn I liked it. Solid good fun 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

If you haven’t read book 1, there may be spoilers, heads up.

PLOT
After the attempted murder & survival at camp, Evie & Chase had a brief moment of passion that Evie wants to pretend never happened & Chase wants to live in every day. But while they’re playing cat & mouse, so is some mystery person clearly setting the 2 of them up for something sinister.
- Slasher movie vibes
- Dark rom com
- Black cat & golden retriever
- med spice
- duet narrated audiobook

PROS
- Love Evie & Chase both. Evie is quick & funny & snarky but so is Chase in the exact opposite way.
- Once again fun slasher vibes. Giving Scream a little in the best way.
- Just a fun ride. Very enjoyable banter, you absolutely are rooting for these 2 in every way.
- Hot spice once again. Well done, author.

CONS
- For a second there was a but it “so why is [person] resisting this relationship so much… it doesn’t much make sense” that made the push & pull feel a little forced. It didn’t last super long, but long enough.

A super fun conclusion! So worth the read.

Not enough body count for a proper sequel slasher, but in many ways this book is even better than the first one. Honestly, who can resist some good banter and spice?

The Chemistry between Chase & Evie was supurb in book 1, this book was a little weird and rushed. I can understand a trauma bond but with how much she put off she hated him then randomly banged him in a tub wasnt it for me.

The slasher vibes were on point though "Him" make me feel so uncomfortable at times which was perfect, and I like how Chase was Kidnapped and not Evie so she had to save him.

Also Goldie gets shot then bame Epilogue shes better? Wtf happened to her? I hate how that was just glazed over Noah runs out to find Evie and Chase no mention if Goldie is alive or anything that was not it.

Other wise a good fun book, Narration was perfect.

So, obviously, when I got through with the first book, I was salivating for this one. Chase and Evie's love/hate relationship made for some epically diabolical banter. I neeeeeeded to see how these two were going to come around to loving each other.

The banter does keep up in this book - but to be honest, without the buffer of Goldie and Noah, I didn't really understand Evie's 'hatred' of Chase anymore.

For the first half of the book, she just seems to be irritated by his very existence, for no other reason than this started in book 1 and it was plot. There were times her POV chapters literally felt like Pucci was trying too hard to make her ornery.

She had the hots for Chase, but no, we have to be mad at him! ...but why? There was no real actual legitimate reason.

That was a bit disappointing for me. I was hoping to get an IN on their tumultuous dynamic, and instead we just get to watch a woman be a bitch to the guy she likes for a few weeks before finally giving in and sexing him.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The plot was decent - even if it came just a liiiiiittle bit out of nowhere. I wish there'd been a little more effort put in to it. Either by making the book longer, or giving us more from the reveal of who the bad guy was.

Finally, the transition between I hate him and I love him was crazy fast. To the point where I'm not entirely sure I believed it. I did love the ending, where Evie steps up to defend her man, though.

This was a generally fun and easy read. If you enjoyed book one, you'll probably enjoy this one. Pucci's writing is a riot. I think I just liked Noah and Goldie more. I think the plot in their book made more sense, too.

A very good follow up to a great book (one killer night). This story picks up with Evie and Chase a few months after the horrific events in book one. You get the same snappy Evie and golden retriever Chase. Through events that force them together they figure out that energy is really chemistry (that only Evie is fighting). The mystery was less of a thriller than the first book but was entertaining. The romance portion was filled with mean flirting and witty comebacks. At any rate, we knew they’d end up together and the biggest surprise in this book was meant to be the mystery. Well, that is where it fell flat to me. It just didn’t make sense. As in we got to the end and the author had to explain the motive and came up with something very random. Aside from that I enjoyed the book. The narrators were new(er) to me and did a great job.

Thank you brilliance publishing for providing an advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.

"Welcome to Camp Murder, where all your nightmares come true and serial adventures awaits"-

Before I start my review I want to thank Netgallery and author Trilina Pucci for giving me this opportunity to ARC read!

If the SCREAM was a slasher steamy sweet romcom book this would be it!
Evil is forever is the second book to this series and it didnt dissapoint!
This book features Chase and Evie, They are cutthroat sarcastical rivals, as the tension and love grows between them something even more sinister and dangerous awaits them.. a stalker always watching them with not so good intentions.

The tension was killing and steamy asf, The spice was great as well! Specially the ✨️ Dough making scene ✨️
The plot twists are insane that had me hooked and gagged for more!
a Chef x Slasher movie maker was such a unique trope to me as well!
And the humor was over the top!
Totally recommend this book once it releases!

I love a down bad MMC and Chase may be one of the most down bad characters I’ve ever read. Two years after Evie & Chase experience what most people only see in slasher films, they think that they’re finally out of the woods. Evie went back to doing special effects for slasher films, and Chase went back to being in unrequited love with Evie. But the past isn’t as far away as it should be when a stalker arrives.

The balance between romance, suspense, and humor creates a novel that readers across genres will enjoy. One of my favorite aspects is the way slasher films are incorporated as it created a perfect visual in my had and further immersed me into the storyline.

Thank you Trilina Pucci, Montlake, and Netgalley for the ARC!

“Come on, Evilicious. How are you supposed to be friends if you take off every time I make you shiver?”

Rom-com thriller by Trilina Pucci. Yes, please! She never disappoints by making you laugh and sweat.

The story continues from One Killer Night, with Chase and Evie this time around. They survived a killer and now have PTSD from the whole ordeal. Chase has wanted Evie since he first met her, but she hates him. (Does she really?) Evie keeps Chase at arm’s length with her witty, sassy comebacks. Chase loves the chase. So he annoys her on purpose. (He’s actually hilarious.) The banter is top-tier between them. While they struggle with these new fears, they find comfort in each other. Strange things start to happen, and now they have to figure out who’s behind them. Is there another killer on the loose?

I loved it! The banter, the suspense, the spice. Chefs kiss.

Tropes: enemies to lovers, thriller romcom, suspense, forced proximity, found family, he’s obsessed.

Thank you, Trilina and NetGalley, for the arc, in exchange for my honest review.

-“We’re gonna have so much fun. Cross my heart and hope you die.” 🔫

I LOVE THIS SERIES! Stalking, murder, mystery, smut🙌🏼. Very Scream coded book and loved every second of it. Plus I don’t think I’ve ever met an MMC that was more my type. A sarcastic chef/restaurant owner who’s 100% an obsessed simp for the FMC! Plus he speaks multiple languages especially in bed?! And has pretty eyes!!😭 I need him in my life! I’m usually a romantasy reader and ofcourse I have my list of fave “book boyfriends” but Chase Beckett is now going to be my #1 and he doesn’t even have to ride a dragon or kill hordes of people lol.

One Killer Night and Evil Is Forever are the perfect books when you’re looking for an all around fun time. I didn’t even know slasher rom-com was a genre but now I’m obsessed. These books deliver amazing - well developed characters, tension and romance, laugh out loud comedy, a thrilling plot and suspense that will have you jumping at every corner.

Trilina Pucci might just be my new favorite author! Earlier this year I received an ARC of the first book in this series, One Killer Night. It is a slasher rom-com that transports you right back into the 90s and makes you feel like you are watching your favorite slasher film. Before I could even finish the book I was hoping and praying that we would get a second book with Evie and Chase. Sure enough Trilina Pucci delivered!!!

I loved Evie and Chase’s story. Their chemistry was top tier all of their interactions with one another were hysterical. I did start to get a teeny tiny bit annoyed with Evie after hating on Chase for so much of the book but was happy when she finally started to come around. I mean, seriously… Chase was hard not to love. Both their characters were incredibly well developed and their personalities leapt off the page. 10/10 experience!

If you are someone who is trying to get into audiobooks, this is a great series to start with! The first book’s audio was performed in duet narration with the one and only Grayson Owens - the king of sexy, creepy male voices and another top favorite of mine, Samantha Brentmoor. Evil is Forever was performed in duet as well with Robert Hatchet and Audrey Obeyn.

This is my first book from this author and I am HOOKED! I didn’t know what to expect with a horror romance (I’m a scaredy cat) but honestly really enjoyed the thriller vibes with my romance.
I listened to this ALC without reading book 1 and I would suggest reading them in order as book 2 focuses a lot on what happened in book 1 and I think the plot twists would hit harder knowing that information. Both narrators brought this book to life in an immersive, refreshing way that had me absolutely hooked.

Evie, Goldie (sister), Noah (BIL) and Chase (one night stand from sister’s wedding that’s so into her it’s vomiting worthy (in a cute way)) all experienced a traumatic near death experience in book 1. Everyone is shipping Chase and Evie and our lovely FMC will have NONE OF IT. This lil spitfire passionate outspoken lady works in the Special FX department for B list movies so imagine stubborn creative hilariousness.

If you read Butcher & Blackbird or Lights Out and thought, I want the rom com energy with insanely funny banter but with some thriller/ horror stalker (not hot or from MMC) where the primary focus of the story is the romance then please!!! Pick this book up!

Add to your TBR if you like:
- slasher rom-com
- spice and suspense
- golden retriever x black cat
- banterrrrr
- ‘yes chef’ 😏
- forced proximity
- found family
- pop culture references
- he’s obsessed with her 🤭

Thank you to Amazon Publishing for providing me with a free copy of this book as part of their Creator Program. This review is completely my own.

This is actually my first time reading this author, and honestly I probably wouldn’t have picked this series up if I hadn’t received this book… but now I’m like, if the rest of her books are like this, I want more! These are just such a fun time!

This continues on from the first book, but instead of following Goldie and Noah, we’re now following Evie and Chase, and the whole mystery, stalker vibe continues which I love. It’s chaotic in the best way.

My one big drawback… I could not stand Evie 😅
And Chase is so lovable and funny that I genuinely started to feel bad for him. I also don’t think the plot was quite as strong as the first book. It still kept my attention, but it didn’t feel quite as tight and a bit repetitive. If I’m being honest, the first book could’ve stood really well on its own without a need for a sequel.

But clearly I still had a good time here. It’s messy and entertaining, just one of those series you read for the fun of it. If you’re going to pick this up, I also highly recommend the audiobook. It’s a duet narration and it is phenomenal. Immersive reading this series made the experience so much more fun.

Such a Fun Sequel!!

I really loved this one!! It was fun, cute, and genuinely made me laugh. I already liked Chase and Evie in One Killer Night, so getting their story was such a treat. The first book is still my favorite, but this sequel was incredibly entertaining and didn’t disappoint.

Evie is still dealing with the trauma from what happened before, even if she insists she’s fine. Watching her slowly find comfort and safety in Chase—the one person she claims she can’t stand—was really sweet.
She’s all black cat energy, sharp and defensive, while Chase is pure golden retriever vibes: patient, devoted, and completely all-in from the start. Watching him prove, again and again, that he wasn’t going anywhere until she gave in? Loved every second.

The banter was hilarious, and the suspense kept things interesting without being too heavy—the plot twist definitely caught me off guard. Trilina does such a great job balancing humor, tension, and just enough thriller vibes to keep you hooked.

Audiobook note: highly recommend it. Audrey Obeyn and Robert Hatchet absolutely brought this story to life—the banter hit even harder, and the tension was chef’s kiss.

If One Killer Night worked for you, you’re going to have a great time with this one—fun, spicy, and full of that perfect rom-com thriller energy. 🖤

18 months after the trauma at the end of OKN, special effects artist Evie is having panic attacks and trying not to lust after chef Chase, while Chase is wooing her with the patience of a saint. Meanwhile a creepy creeper is watching them both, leaving gag gifts in toilets and stealing her pet fish (RIP Knievie), all building up to another night of terror.

Evie frustrated me a bit. She is too insecure and embarrassed to admit she likes Chase so she is constantly mean to him, which makes for fun banter between the two but also, come on woman, be serious! Luckily outside forces orchestrate the two of them living under one roof and forced proximity leads to the inevitable kinky dough kneading scene.

When the night of terror eventually arrives there are enough red-herrings that you may not guess who the villain is. But, if you’ve seen the first 3 Scream movies it will probably hit you like a jump scare.

There are a couple of chapters where it’s just Evie panicking and flashing back to the past, and it’s super confusing, just speed the audio up to where she remembers she has a crossbow and you’ll be grand.

If you loved One Killer Night then I promise you will love this book! It is a perfect sweet and steamy slasher rom-com that consists of thick tension and hilarious banter.

I absolutely loved this book, I knew that I would but it really did not disappoint. It follows Evie and Chase, who are absolutely hilarious together - Evie proclaims her hatred for Chase while Chase proclaims his love her Evie - let’s just say the tension is tensioning and the denial is denialing when they are forced to live together

While the tension and denial grows thick, it finally snaps leaving love to grow between them buttttttt both Evie and Chase start to face something more sinister and dangerous together….lets just say this has a shocking plot twist that left me SHOOK

This was honestly such a great book! I was hooked from the start and did not want to put it down. I loved Chase and Evie in the first book and I love them even more. Chase is a total sweetheart who knows what he wants and Evie is completely adorable with her ‘black cat’ personality. I love them both and I loved how their relationship progressed

The banter between them was hilarious and the chemistry was intense - they were SO HOT together.
I loved this book and I definitely recommend reading it!
Chefs kiss🧑‍🍳- literally
