Wanting her just may destroy me—and I'd still go back for more.
"One of the best series out today! Every book is action-packed and steamy."~Series Addict
CAIN A rival syndicate enforcer is muscling into our territory—no permission, no truce, no rules. Just blood. He’s the kind of vampire who doesn’t blink before ripping out your throat to gain power. And I know him. I’ve seen firsthand what he’s capable of. He’s not just a threat to the Maritime Syndicate, the syndicate I’d bleed to protect. He’s also a threat to the only people who matter to me.
And then there’s his daughter. Beautiful. Charismatic. She moves like a siren and tastes like sin. But there’s a crack behind the gloss, a softness only I can see.
I should’ve kept my distance. But the first time we collided, it felt like the Dark Gods had a cruel sense of humor. Now I can’t stay away. We’re fire and gasoline, secrets and scars. This isn’t a love story. It’s a warning.
Because wanting her might be the one thing that finally destroys me—and I’d still go back for more.
*A gritty forbidden romance set in Rebecca Rivard's award-winning Vampire Syndicate world*
THIRST completes the Maritime Syndicate Trilogy (FALLEN, HUNGER, THIRST), but can be read as a standalone.
THE VAMPIRE SYNDICATE Powerful vampire mafia billionaires who will burn down the world to possess the women they crave.TEMPTED (Prologue) PURSUED CRAVED TAKEN FALLEN HUNGER THIRST THE VAMPIRE KINGPIN (set in the Vampire Syndicate Underworld)
USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Rivard read way too many romances as a teenager, little realizing she was actually preparing for a career. She now spends her days with vampires, shifters, fae and other magical creatures, which has to be the best job ever.
InD'Tale Magazine calls her work "steamy, spellbinding romance with phenomenal pacing," and the Paranormal Romance Guild named her Vampire Syndicate Series a "must read." Her stories have won multiple awards including the prestigious PRISM, the RONE, and the Paranormal Romance Guild Reviewers' Choice Award.
If you crave steamy, emotionally charged romance between dangerous men and the women they'd do anything possess, Rebecca's books are for you. HEA guaranteed.
Thirst by Rebecca Rivard is the book I read, I’ve not read any of the other books in the series (but I’m going back at some point.)
(I devoured this in one intense sitting) Rebecca Rivard has done it again. Thirst is exactly the kind of dark, addictive vampire mafia romance I crave, pun fully intended 😜 and it delivers on every level, scorching chemistry, brutal stakes, and that signature morally gray alpha energy that makes the genre so addictive.
Cain grabbed me from the first page. He’s a syndicate enforcer through and through, loyal, lethal, and carrying the kind of baggage that makes him deliciously complicated.
When a ruthless rival starts encroaching on his territory, the threat feels personal on multiple levels. But it’s the rival’s daughter, Nyx, who turns his world upside down.
She’s not just beautiful and seductive (though the “moves like a siren, tastes like sin” description is 🤌🏻🤌🏻), she has layers. There’s vulnerability and hidden softness beneath the polished, dangerous exterior, and Cain is the only one who truly sees it.
Nyx isn’t some passive mafia princess, she’s unpredictable, strong willed, and tangled in her own complicated world. Their relationship is pure fire and gasoline…… explosive encounters, power struggles, blood bonds, and a connection that feels fated even as it threatens to destroy everything Cain has built and everyone he protects. The tension is constant, whether they’re clashing or colliding in the most delicious ways. The author writes it how it is, raw, sensual scenes that feel earned rather than gratuitous, and the vampire elements (thirst, blood, immortality’s darker edges) are woven seamlessly into the mafia intrigue.
What I loved most was how the book balances the high heat romance with real danger and syndicate politics. The rival enforcer isn’t cartoonishly evil, he’s terrifyingly competent, which raises the stakes and makes Cain’s internal conflict feel genuine. You believe he’d risk it all for Nyx, even knowing it might be his undoing. The “this isn’t a love story, it’s a warning” vibe in the blurb is spot on, yet it still delivers a satisfying, hard won resolution that fits the series. 🥰
This is the conclusion to the Dark Hearts Trilogy (following Fallen and Hunger), but it works beautifully as a standalone if you’re new to the Vampire Syndicate world. That said, after reading Thirst, you’ll probably want to go back and devour the rest. I know I will.
If you’re a fan of dark paranormal romance, vampire mafia stories, forbidden romance, and possessive anti heroes who’d burn the world down for their woman, then grab it. If you like authors who blend gritty crime family drama with supernatural heat (think a more vampiric take on certain mafia romance favorites), this book is gold.
If you’re looking for a guilty pleasure read that sinks its teeth in and won’t let go, Thirst is an absolute must.
Can’t wait to see what she does next in this world. Highly, highly recommended.
I was incredibly grateful for the opportunity to ARC read Thirst, and it did not disappoint. As someone who loves both vampire lore and mafia tropes, seeing them blended so seamlessly was a highlight for me. While this is part of an interconnected series, I found that I could focus on Cain and Nyx’s relationship perfectly fine as a newcomer. That said, the world-building is so intriguing that I would definitely recommend reading the previous stories if you are the type of reader who enjoys the full history of the side characters and their backstories. From the moment he appeared, I was completely drawn to Cain’s energy; he is exactly the kind of compelling lead you hope for in a dark, gritty romance. The dynamic between the leads is a true enemies-to-lovers journey that kept me hooked from start to finish. However, be prepared for a very headstrong heroine—there were several moments where I genuinely wanted to reach through my screen and smack some sense into Nyx because of her stubbornness! What really sets this book apart is the balance of the narrative; if you prefer a story that prioritizes a gripping, fast-paced plot over constant smut, this is absolutely the book for you. It kept me guessing about the characters' fates until the very last page, making for an immersive and highly enjoyable read.
haven’t read a paranormal romance in a while and this book rekindled my love for them. Just a fair warning this book is a standalone but has a continuing plotline from the previous stories, which may cause a bit of confusion at the start, but I don’t think it’s terribly difficult to understand once the story really starts to take shape. The plot was good, it’s a forbidden vampire mafia romance, where she’s the daughter of her enemy and there’s a SO MUCH TENSION. there’s also some kidnapping, some good spice and lots of “feeding” that was hot as hell. It is a romance driven plot but the parts about taking down her father and how she secretly helps them was interesting. There are some great twists that shocked me to my core but ended off on a sweet happy note so don’t worry. There is a “soulmates” trope and although it isn’t my favourite I really cannot deny the sizzling hot chemistry between Nyx and Cain. However was a lot of mistrust between them, that kind of put me off, however I liked how they resolved things and learned to trust one another (although I wish there was more actual discussion). It was the source of a whole BUCKETLOAD of angst, and I felt the searing pain of the crack in their relationship through the damn pages and cried a whole bunch. This book was a fun read and I recommended it to any paranormal romance fan. I give this a 4/5.
Thirst was my first experience reading Rebecca Rivard, despite it being the sixth instalment in her Vampire Syndicate series. Did jumping in this late affect my reading experience? To some extent, yes. While the central romance and immediate storyline were easy enough to follow, it was obvious there’s a much larger overarching plot running throughout the series, particularly surrounding the reasons behind the long-standing feud between the Maritime Syndicate, very much positioned as the ‘good guys’ and the ruthless Quebec City Syndicate. This conflict shaped not only the secondary characters and their back stories but also the complicated relationship between Cain and Nyx, whose romance had clearly begun before this book but had remained hidden from those around them.
At its core, this is a dark, gritty vampire romance set in a world where humans and vampires openly coexist. Cain, a lieutenant within the Maritime Syndicate, is a classic damaged hero whose abusive upbringing has left him angry and guarded, but fiercely loyal to the family he’s found within the syndicate. Nyx Nyzaire, meanwhile, is just as emotionally scarred in her own way. As a dhampir born to a human mother who abandoned her, she’s spent her life being treated as something worthless by her elitist father, a powerful figure within the Quebec City Syndicate, who sees her mixed heritage as a weakness even as he keeps her close for his own benefit. The chemistry between Cain and Nyx was undeniably intense, with plenty of tension and spice throughout the book. However, what made their romance more compelling was the emotional conflict underneath it, with both characters carrying so much damage and resentment. Leaning heavily into an enemy-to-lovers’ dynamic matters were complicated by feelings of betrayal and mistrust - Cain believes Nyx has betrayed him, intending to deliver him straight into her father’s hands, while Nyx knows that because of her family ties, Cain will never fully trust her no matter what she says or does. Now, all she truly wants is to escape and live her life free from the vampire world altogether.
Alongside the romance, Thirst delivers plenty of action, intrigue, and suspense, with enough twists and conflict to keep the pace moving quickly. The darker tone of the world and the syndicate politics add depth to the story, while the spice level is certainly high enough for readers looking for a steamier paranormal romance and although I probably would have benefited from reading the earlier books first, this book still works well enough as an introduction to Rebecca Rivard’s writing.
Cain and Talon are the personal bodyguards and top lieutenants to Brien Leclerc, primus of the Maritime Syndicate. The three are brothers in all but blood. But now, with Brien mated to Twilight and Talon busy with his own mate, Eden, and their new baby, Cain will undertake a solo mission. An enemy tried to harm the Maritime Syndicate’s mates, and Cain is determined to make him pay.
Nyx Nyzaire is the daughter of a vicious Quebec City Syndicate enforcer. She wears a spoiled party-girl exterior to hide her artistic alter ego, “The Haunt.” She’d like nothing more than to escape QCS, but if she’s caught, her father will find a way to make it hurt.
From the mood of a cocktail dress to the enchantment of Paris, the author’s elegant imagery adds seasoning to her narrative. It’s very apropos because imagery also defines Nyx, with her art winning her anonymous praise and adoration.
Oh, mon Dieu! Cain and Nyx are so sizzling hot that all it took was one lingering gaze at an underground gallery to ignite the inferno. I longed for every scene they had together and felt bereft every second they were apart.
But the enmity between the Nyx’s sire and the Maritime Syndicate is as toxic they come. Choosing between his brothers and his love will cost Cain dearly. Accepting that she will never be worthy as either a daughter or a mate is merely survival for Nyx. The sadness that sustains the core of Cain and Nyx’s relationship had my gut clenched throughout. I read this with my head, my heart, and every visceral nerve. Honestly, I love a read that makes me feel this alive.
Rebecca Rivard truly captures the romance, suspense, and sacrifice of a diabolical vampire Romeo and Juliet pairing. Let’s hope the stars have a better fate for these lovers!
Since reading the first book in this Series, I have waited with great anticipation for each subsequent book to be released. "Thirst (The Vampire Syndicate #6)" could not get here fast enough for me! I LOVE this captivating series involving humans, vampires and dhampirs (half human/half vampire). Well-written and filled with emotion, this all-consuming series will grab you from the beginning and hold you captive until the end. "Thirst" is Cain and Nyx's story...how they met and eventually came to be fated mates. I devoured this book, turning the pages faster with each one I read.
Cain is another Alpha-vampire that will make you swoon. He's a top Lieutenant in the Maritime Syndicate protecting their Primus (Leader). He's tough, but when it comes to Nyx, he's a mess of emotions and vulnerabilities that will endear him to you straight away. Since the first time they met, he hasn't been able to get Nyx out of his thoughts which causes him lots of problems since she is a dhampir daughter of an Enforcer vampire in a rival Syndicate. Her mother abandoned her and her Father didn't want a dhampir daughter, but he'll keep her and use her to his advantage. There's no love lost between them, but her sense of loyalty and honor runs deep. She will need to reach a point where she must decide where her loyalty and honor will reside, with her Father or the Alpha-vampire she has come to love, Cain.
This story has it all...the push and pull between the lead characters, the emotional growth and barriers each needs to overcome before they can find their happily-ever-after, the non-stop action and the sizzling, steamy love between them that threatens to ignite the pages as you read. At times I screamed out loud at them both, and I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it all! Get ready to be held captive and breathless as you immerse yourself in their fabulous world!
Once again, it's not necessary to read the prior stories in this Series since the book can be read as a standalone. However, I would highly recommend you read from start of the series to this exceptional 6th book. I think you'll enjoy it even more!
Fantastically written, this book keeps you on your toes from beginning to end. A dark vampire mafia romance with fast paced action, vampires, dhampirs (half human/half vampire) and humans, suspense, desire, spice, secrets, twists and passion; I couldn’t put it down. The character development is great and I particularly enjoyed the steam between Cain and Nxy who are wonderful together.
Following on from "Hunger" Cain goes to speak to his contact again, who helped to rescue both Twilight and Eden. Cain is a top Lieutenant in the Maritime Syndicate (working with Brien and Talon). He's sure Nazaire is responsible for their recent problems but needs proof, the main issue is his contact is his daughter and he feels more for her than he probably should; a tough enforcer by nature who is all emotion when it comes to her.
Nyx has been used by her sire for years and punished for her "mistakes", but she still feels loyal to her sire and syndicate. He's never seen her skill in art so she's been secretly saving up from her sales (hiding behind her mafia princess persona) and just needs one more payment before she can disappear forever. Though it will mean leaving Cain behind with no way to follow her. That's until he offers her sanctuary, but can she trust him, as he wants to take her sire down for good.
A wonderful read if, like me, you're a fan of vampire mafia stories, dark paranormal romance, forbidden romance, females with courage and possessive morally grey heroes who will burn the world down for them.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
“The glowing eyes, the sharp white fangs. The thirst on his face.”
Thirst is the final book in this Vampire Syndicate trilogy and a great wrap up! Cain has seen his two best friends find their mates and he is finally starting to think that is what he wants, he just wants it with someone he didn’t expect.
“Nyx felt like my missing piece, too, the one thing my money couldn’t buy. Her unhappiness was now my unhappiness.”
Nyx is the daughter of a rival Syndicate and it couldn’t simply never work for them, but when the truth of her sire comes out it becomes impossible to ignore what she and Cain have.
I loved the suspense and how these two were able to fight together and for each other! Great ending to the Brien, Talon and Cain series!
