The first book in Kate Hawthorne's new series, Risk Aware, takes us back to Los Angeles and back to the club where it all began...Rapture. Love by Risk Aware Book One is a dad's business rival (with a mouth on him), age gap romance, with power exchange, hurt/comfort, found family, and the kind of best friend you've always wanted.
And did I mention Marshall Covington has three brothers?
SILAS There are ten rules to architectural design including, but not limited to, balance, harmony, unity, organization...variety. My love life has fewer rules, and it's no surprise I'm more successful at one of these things than the other. It's not my fault that my personal preference for keeping things fresh throws me headfirst into a less than ideal situation with a stranger, and it's definitely not my fault that the man who saves my ass—literally—the last man who should. Marshall Covington, my father's business rival.
MARSHALL I did not set out in life with the intention to seduce the son of my least favorite professor-turned-biggest business competitor, but on the back end of a confrontational meeting that has me desperate to blow off some steam, there's no denying how perfect Silas feels in my arms.
If I've learned one thing in my thirty-nine years, it's that secrets never stay secret for long. There's no hiding Silas' talent, there's no hiding his (platonic) affection for his best friend, and there's no hiding the way I'm absolutely head over heels in love with him.
Between his father and my brothers, the truth about us is going to come out sooner rather than later. We've reinforced our foundation with love, but is that enough?

With over two dozen published romances to her name, Kate Hawthorne has built a recognizable brand around telling emotional stories that pack a figurative (and sometimes literal) punch.
Existing on a steady diet of wine and coffee, Kate spends her days dreaming up angsty stories full of heat, kink, and heart. Kate now lives in Louisville, where she writes romance, reads romance, and hides from the humidity.
ok let me start by saying I would have never read this book if I knew it was a Dom read. not a fan of dominant dynamics. as I feel it's a predator behavior. the Dom was not listed as a trope or a trigger. be that as it is I found i very much enjoyed this read. i kept thinking I can't finish this book. but it's like a speeding train. you can't put it down. the characters were very enjoyable and you kind of love Silas. though Marshall was a Dom he was head over heels for Silas you can appreciate his character. I had lots trouble with the physical punishment even though it seemed consensual. especially when Marshall beat him for not telling him something. I personally feel that in real life this would wear on a person. but it's a book. the writing was amazing the sex scenes were very well written. and I can't imagine how this author got into these characters minds. she has an amazing talent. I truly want to read the next book. because Lincoln needs to get his hea.
I loved this book so much! I'm a huge fan of Kate's books. It’s spicy, messy, and full of emotional depth. Silas finds himself tangled up with Marshall Covington—his dad’s business rival and the last man he should be falling for. But fate has other plans. The forbidden is so tempting…
This story is all about power dynamics, (which Kate is a genius at, IMO) found family, and the kind of tension that makes you want to scream at the characters and hug them at the same time. Marshall is broody and bold, Silas is chaotic and charming, and together they’re so hot.
If you’re into age-gap romance with hurt/comfort vibes, power exchange, found family, this one’s for you. And yes, there are three Covington brothers—so buckle up, because this series is just getting started!
4,5 ⭐️! Ohh, what these MCs did to me, let me tell you ❤️🔥
As always, check the tw-list before reading 💖
Marshall is a business man. Silas is the son of his biggest rival and after one eventful evening, both of them find themselves in a situation neither of them could have predicted.
I mean, put together two guys who can't really be in a relationship and have amazing chemistry in one room together, what could go wrong, right? 🫣
I loved Marshall, and in combination with Silas even more. The way he acted around him and cared for him, especially when he most needed it. They really make a great couple.
“I can’t decide if you’re a dream come true or an absolute nightmare.”
Overall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5 Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ / 5
Silas and Marshall were a lovely surprise. I’ve had this author on my TBR for a while and I’m so glad I finally dove in. There was so much emotional development here, a truly beautiful coming-into-my-own arc for both MCs, in a way. From Silas finding his footing on his own (in more ways than one) to Marshall creating a future for himself he’d never foreseen (and the impact that has on the relationships he relies on), there’s so much to this love story.
“Fuck, it was painful to be known.”
I have to acknowledge how respectfully the BD$M–which is plentiful throughout–is handled. From the club where our MCs have multiple pivotal scenes (and the intriguing owners who pop up time to time) to the actual relationship between Silas and Marshall. As the lifestyle should be, it is full of communication, respect, aftercare, reverence, and so much more. It’s a central part of the plot and relationship between MCs and certainly serves a clear purpose for them both.
“I closed my eyes and imagined him a cartographer, committing the lines and peaks of my body to memory for future exploration.”
It was so easy to disappear completely into these characters. The full cast is rich and interesting, with a myriad of possible future tales unfolding along the way (almost to the point of distraction, at times). I’ll absolutely be returning for the next chapter and eagerly look forward to more from the Covington brothers.

Tropes: - Age Gap - (Father’s) Business Rival - Dom/Sub (Hurt/Comfort) - Found Family
**Trigger Warning/Content Warning:** The book includes a poorly/under-negotiated power exchange between a dominant and submissive (MMC & tertiary character). Plus - unhealthy parent/child relationships for both MMCs.
So this is the first book I’ve read by this author, and suffice it to say it won’t be the last. This story is low-angst, high-spice, with a lot of kink. 🥵🔥
My first reaction to this book (by chapter 5 or 6): So far, it's kind of getting into some interesting territory—open relationships, dom/sub, and BDSM.
This has been one of the spicier books I’ve read in a while. I would go so far as to say that this story is borderline erotica. 😳🫣😲 While there’s some plot, the heat kicks up after the first couple of expository chapters and does not stop.
Beyond that, I appreciated Marshall and Silas’ story and how they gave in to their feelings for each other. The story starts with Marshall having a deep sense of self, while Silas is still on a professional journey of self-discovery that continues to influence his character growth.
Additionally, this book provides a deeper understanding of a dom/sub relationship and the cruciality of open, honest communication in such a relationship. That said, again, expect A LOT of spicy scenes. For some, it may feel too much—like every other chapter (after chapter 8) featured a spicy scene.
At first, Silas’s friendship with Lincoln kind of threw me for a loop, but I came to see how meaningful that relationship is to keeping him grounded. I also appreciated that Marshall was able to see what their dynamic was and how important Lincoln was to Silas. I am super excited Lincoln will have his own book, and I'm curious to find out who he’ll be with!
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and will be diving in to the author’s backlist since there are characters from Rapture in the Giving Consent series.
***I received an ARC of this book from The Author Agency. This is my honest review.***
Admittedly, I haven't read a lot of this author's books. Not for any particular reason, they would just slip down the list if something else popped up. I tend to reach for authors I "know". Well, no more slipping down the list with Kate Hawthorne! This was a really well written book about BDSM, love, friends, family that felt 100% authentic.
As a complete aside, I have to say that I worked for close family in the design field for many, MANY years and the scenes with Silas and his father were so spot on for someone in that dynamic.
Marshall showed what a real Dom should be- both inside and outside of the bedroom. From the first time he swooped in to help Silas, to getting Silas to believe in himself, his talents and his self worth, to knowing it is ok to step back and let your partner shine.
Silas and Marshall slipped to easily into a pretty close version of 24/7 without being extreme, with checking in with each other and by respecting communication. Even the way scenes (at the beginning) were negotiated ahead of time. That could have been boring or clinical but it just made it hotter knowing what was to come. That anticipation. They had the outline, but the details came in the moment.
Of course I absolutely adored the side characters. Silas' best friend and roommate, Lincoln and Marshall's brothers added to the story without taking it over. Although I have to say I have some questions for a certain brother... (so spoilers)
Absolutely read this book if BDSM is your jam. Take heed of the TW/CW and enjoy. I can't wait for the best book but I also want to go back and read previous stories/series.

Marshall and Silas’s story is interesting. Marshall is ambitious, smart, hardworking and kind. He loves, supports and cares for his brothers and is always there for them when they need him. I loved seeing how close and bonded Marshall and his brothers were after knowing how twisted their family life was. Silas, too is exceptionally creative, diligent, intelligent and kind. It was sad to read how Silas’s dad treated him. Silas and Marshall’s relationship starts when Marshall rescues Silas from a difficult situation. They soon realize that they complement each other perfectly and are exactly what the other is seeking in a partner. Their relationship progresses slowly where Marshall helps Silas to see his own potential, cares for him, supports him no matter what and loves unconditionally. Silas, in turn, brings out the emotions in Marshall that he had never experienced before. With Silas’s companionship, Marshall sees a future where he has a partner to live his life with. Marshall and Silas are both green flag partners who give each other space to process their emotions, support one another through challenging decisions, and recognize that they both have other people in their lives who may sometimes take precedence. Overall, they are amazing partners who love each other unconditionally. With that said, I enjoyed this book for its story, all the characters and spicy chapters.
I don’t know where to start with this. I had never read this author before, but this one piqued my interest. I have never been more excited I had the opportunity to read an arc.
I say it all the time when I read books with BDSM as a main theme, it’s so hard to get right and it’s not often that I read a romance where the dynamic between the D/s is realistic, normal, and powerful. This is the perfect example of how you can write kink without being over-the-top or irresponsible.
My favorite part of the entire story was watching Silas slip into sub space. The way Kate Hawthorne captured this was exquisite.
Marshall and Silas were complex characters and their individual journeys were just as interesting as the path they walked together. The way they loved and showed their love to each other was chef's kiss for a dynamic such as theirs. I especially enjoyed watching Silas’ growth, both as a young man and as a submissive. Watching him bloom and realize his that self-worth came from within was truly beautiful. His friendship with Lincoln was soft, tender, and so nice to read. Marshall is the ideal Dom, with the attention and care he provided not just in his relationship with Silas, but also how he carried himself with his brothers and in his career. He was level headed, mature, and understanding.
I can’t wait for Lincoln’s story.
If you’re into the following themes, you can’t go wrong with this one.
🔥MM Romance 🔥BDSM (all aspects) 🔥24/7 Power Exchange 🔥Impact Play 🔥Age Gap 🔥Queer Platonic Friendships 🔥Found Family
This is the first book in a new series and my first book by this author. Silas is a young man who work# with his father in an architectural firm. His father is old school and refuses to bend and allow Silas more control of the company. Silas enjoys the work but hates being under his father’s control. However, he doesn’t want to leave since he lost his mother a few years ago he’s afraid to lose his dad too, if he went to another firm. His dad has a serious competitor named Marshall. Marshall use to be a student of Silas’s father and he is significantly older than Silas. Marshall appreciates Silas and would love to work with him if he could escape his father. The story really changes when Silas goes out with his roommate to a sex club, at this club he is almost taken against his will. Although Silas is submissive and doesn’t have a Dom a man was about to overcome his personal boundaries. Marshall luckily intruded and saved Silas. This changes each man’s perception of each other. This book deals a lot with interpersonal dynamics and how they affect relationships. I love how Silas and Marshall explore their relationship and their roles and how that pushed them into falling in love with each other. This was an interesting book for me I have read many BDSM’S books and I think this book did an amazing job with the communication between both partners in all their scenes. This is a really thoughtful book with a wonderful glimpse into the BDSM world.
Silas and Marshall's story was a delightfully kinky and emotional romance. As the son of his business rival, Silas was the last person Marshall should have wanted, but love has a mind of its own. All it took was one night of discovery at Rapture for Marshall to be hopelessly twisted around Silas, and the rest of their journey was a celebration of them finding each other and settling into their D/s dynamic. I have to admit that I'm very intrigued by all of the Covington brothers, and I enjoyed seeing Marshall's interactions with them as much as I adored Lincoln and Silas's best friendship. Silas went through a lot of work and family conflict in this book, and I was happy that he had both Lincoln and Marshall to lean on and help get him out of his own head. Kate Hawthorne absolutely spoiled us with an abundance of thoughtfully negotiated scenes that took Marshall and Silas spiraling to new heights of pleasure. I didn't even question when their feelings evolved into love, because their relationship foundation felt so strong that their long-term future felt inevitable. I was really satisfied by the way Silas and Marshall's book ended, and I can't wait to read the next one and find out who has Lincoln all twisted up into knots.
**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.
Silas, a talented architect, thrives on structure and creativity—except when it comes to his chaotic love life. A spontaneous encounter with a stranger leads to an unexpected rescue by none other than Marshall Covington, his father’s business rival. What begins as a reckless moment spirals into something far deeper. Marshall, hardened by years of rivalry and family pressure, never intended to fall for the son of his nemesis. But Silas is magnetic—brilliant, affectionate, and impossible to ignore. As their secret relationship deepens, Marshall grapples with the inevitability of exposure and the emotional stakes involved. Together, they build something fragile but real. Yet with family tensions, professional rivalries, and personal vulnerabilities looming, they must confront the question: Can love truly hold when everything else threatens to tear it down?
I loved this story of the two men where rivalry and vulnerability intertwined into a delightful story of love, passion and commitment. I found Silas's relationship with his best friend strange but generally all other relationships were easy to feel and understand. I loved the way that the communication between Silas and Marshall was very clear with consent at the heart of it. The men felt very real and I was fully invested in their relationship. This was an MM story with mature content and a BDSM-like D/s dynamic.
I loved this book! Kate never misses, and this story is the perfect mix of spice, mess, and emotional depth.
Silas has no business falling for Marshall Covington, his dad’s biggest business rival but fate clearly didn’t get the memo. One night at Rapture changes everything, and soon Silas finds himself tangled up in something forbidden, complicated, and so, so hot.
Kate is a master of power dynamics, and she shines here. Marshall is broody, bold, and completely undone by Silas, while Silas is chaotic, charming, and in way over his head. Together? They’re explosive. Their banter, their tension, their care for each other, it’s all chef’s kiss.
This book has everything: found family, hurt/comfort, power exchange, and an age-gap that just adds to the intensity. Watching these two build something real, despite everything working against them, was so satisfying.
And can we talk about the Covington brothers? Because I am dying to see what’s coming next.

If you like forbidden romance that’s equal parts kinky and heartfelt, this one’s for you.
It was a pleasant surprise to be taken back into the world of Rapture, the kink club where several other series took place, this time with an entirely new set of characters. In this story, Silas is a young architect who has been working with his controlling, stifling father for 8 years. Things are coming to a head because Silas has much more design talent than he is able to demonstrate. Marshall is a competitor from a firm that bids on many of the same jobs as Silas's company. He and Silas's dad have been at odds for years. Marshall recognizes Silas's talent, even if his father does not.
When Silas is nearly assaulted at Rapture, Marshall comes to the rescue and also finds out that they have complementary kinks, with Marshall being a Dom and Silas a submissive. Slowly, they begin to explore their potential for a relationship, but they both fall hard and fast.
This book has an interesting set of side characters, including Marshall's brothers, who will likely eventually get their own stories. The story is researched enough to feel authentic in the details. The story is tightly woven enough to build some suspense. It is very high heat and kinky, with some S/m, bondage, and other kinks. The love is obsessive and true. I can't wait to read what comes next!
So much is stacked against Silas and Marshall from the start, from their professional relationship to the way they first encounter each other outside of a professional setting. Neither of them expects the less-than-professional immediate chemistry between them once they discover their shared interest in power exchange. Exploring together is the logical next step, and helping them keep boundaries around that dynamic is the external conflict that hits from all sides. We're introduced to Marshall's brothers through the revelation of more family drama, while the remnants of Silas's family simultaneously implode. Though this forces the men even closer together, I appreciated that each obstacle leads the men to adjust the limits of their relationship rather than delve into unproductive angst. As usual, Hawthorne incorporates kink in a manner relevant to the character and relationship development rather than as extraneous spice. I was thrilled to learn she was returning to the world of Club Rapture for this next series. This first installment reminded me how much I enjoy visiting, and I can't wait to explore the rest of the Covington brothers along the way.
Disclaimer: I received a digital review copy of this book from the author.
I love a good Dom trope, and this book delivered in spades. From start to finish, it gave me exactly what I was hoping for—intensity, emotion, and spice that had me absolutely hooked. The balance between kink and genuine connection was done so well, making the story feel both steamy and heartfelt.
The characters were a huge highlight for me. Each one added something special, and I found myself fully invested in their dynamics. The MMC had that perfect commanding presence without losing his softer, more vulnerable side, and it made the romance hit even harder. The FMC was equally compelling, and their chemistry together was off the charts.
The spice? Fantastic. Every scene was written with so much tension and heat that it had me weak in the knees, but what I loved most was how it never felt empty—it always tied back to the emotional bond between them. That combination of passion and raw feeling is what makes this story stand out for me.
By the last page, I wasn’t ready to let go. I am so ready for the next book in the series, and I already know it’s going to be an auto-buy for me.
Okaaaay hear me out this book shook me in the best way! (Pro tip: check the TWs first, unlike me 😅)
Silas works for his father, who barely notices his talent and only sees Marshall, his rival, as the enemy. Marshall and Silas are supposed to be on opposite sides of the architecture world, but when Silas needs help, it’s Marshall who steps in. And from that moment, their chemistry explodes.
Marshall as a Dom? 🔥🔥🔥 He’s commanding but also protective, and the way he communicates with Silas makes their connection feel real and safe. Silas, who’s been searching for someone who truly gets him, finds that in Marshall. Their dynamic goes from zero to a hundred so fast, but it never feels forced it’s passionate, raw, and addictive.
I also loved the softer touches in this book like Silas and Lincoln’s friendship, which added warmth between all the heat. And don’t even get me started on Marshall’s brothers! I’m already hooked and so curious for what’s coming next in this series. 🫶
🔥MM Romance 🔥age gap 🔥dad’s business rival 🔥the kind of man who’ll talk you through it 🔥hurt/comfort 🔥found family 🔥queer platonic friendships 🔥kinky af
While at a BDSM club Silas gets caught up in a bad experience and is rescued by none other than his father's sworn enemy (in business anyways), Marshall Covington. After Marshall offers comfort to Silas they begin a relationship, to their mutual satisfaction. What will happen once his dad finds out? Will this be the end of their already strained relationship?
I liked these characters very much. I liked that they communicated about everything. Marshall was very big on consent and would never put Silas in harms way. I liked that he took charge when Silas needed him to and relented when Silas needed that.
I loved, loved, loved all of Marshall's brothers. I adored the relationship between Silas and his roommate Lincoln, I can't wait to see Lincoln get his HEA in book 2.
Review for (Club Rapture-Risk Aware-1) Love by Design by Kate Hawthorne
This has it all: Club Rapture, age gap, power exchange, found family, It all starts at the Club Rapture. Marshall Covington is Silas's business partner, so he shouldn't be the one who helps Silas out when things turn not so great with a stranger. Things could get sticky with Marshall being his father's business rival. Silas always needs to keep it new in his relationship. So in doing that, he is put into a bad situation that Marshall saves him from. But will Silas thank him and go on his way? Or will he stay and see what happens with Marshall? When Marshall started his day, he hadn't planned on rescuing his business rival's son. But in being put in the right place, he can save Silas. In being put into this situation, he is given the chance to seduce him. Marshall sees so much in Silas that his father doesn't see. Now I have to decide if it's worth him to fall in love with this beautiful man. He knows it will not turn out great when Silas's father finds out, along with my brothers. But Marshall isn't living for Silas's father or his brothers; it's his life, and he wants Silas. Will Marshall succeed in keeping Silas? Or will it go up in flames when the others find out?
Loved this book. I was lucky to have found Kate Hawthorne a few years back and just immersed myself in her books. I feel very lucky that I was given the chance to review this wonderful story. I look forward to reading more of her books.
Nicole Harvey Received an ARC for this story for a truthful review.
This is a great start to a new series from Kate Hawthorne, that actually has links to the Giving Consent series as Rapture is a club featured in both. **Please check trigger/content warnings** Silas and Marshall know each other from work, but as opponents working towards getting the latest architecture project. Silas works for his father who thinks of Marshall as his enemy, but also gives no thought to Silas and the amazing up and coming ideas he has. When Silas is in need of help, it's Marshall that comes to his rescue and, all of a sudden, their attraction ignites and there is no ignoring this new buzz that Marshall feels, needing to have Silas. Dominate him. Protect him. Silas wants exactly the same and soon, they fall into lust, with Marshall being that elusive person that Silas has been searching for for years who can give him everything he needs. It's a very heated and kinky romance as their dom/sub relationship blossoms into exactly what both men want and need. Their relationships with the important people in their lives are also necessary to the story. Lincoln is Silas's best friend but also so much more and I was so happy that Marshal understood this. He also needs his story next!! Marshall has three brothers that he meets every Friday for dinner and their origin story is....different? Not something I've heard of before but there are all sorts of fathers out there. It's going to be very interesting getting to know them better, with the little bits we learned here. I also think it would have been good to have some sort of resolution with Silas and his father as it has just been left, but that may be something that comes up in the future? An amazingly written story from the author. I'm very much looking forward to what comes next. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
This was a low angst fun time! Silas and Marshall were cute together.
I appreciate that Marshall made sure he and Silas made sure to communicate their wants and needs with each other even when it made Silas uncomfortable or embarrassed. I was happy to see that he took into consideration what Silas had gone through and made sure Silas had no reason to feel uncomfortable or embarrassed and that it’s okay to be vocal. He gave Silas a place to feel safe.
I loved how Marshall made sure to show Silas how important he was to home and vise versa. When it came to their jobs, their needs and life goals they both made one another a priority.
I liked seeing the different relationship dynamics that both Marshall and Silas had outside each other. Marshall was such a supportive big brother and I loved how they made sure to regularly connect and I enjoyed seeing Silas having Lincoln as a supportive best friend. I’m excited for the next book.
I would like to formally order one Marshal to-go please. Easily slipped into my #1 book boyfriend hands down. I love him with my entire soul. Everyone has their favorite flavor of Dom and Marshal is mine. The most respectful and caring Dom I’ve read about this far. The negotiation between both MMC’s was spectacular and a perfect example of how it should go. I love how he cared for Silas’ needs above all else without hesitation.
This is a BDSM book with an age gap. Sort of business rivalry but ultimately it’s not rivals to lovers.
5/5 🌶️ with a good amount of impact play. Please read the trigger warnings to protect yourself and your mental health. There is a part where one MC’s is not listened to by a side character and nearly sexually assaulted. It’s discussed throughout the book as the MC tries to downplay his experience but others reinforce that what he experienced wasn’t acceptable and should be taken seriously.
↓↓ I don't know how I feel about this. I enjoyed the characters but I didn't really gel with the writing style as much. There were also just a few things that I felt should or could have been expanded a bit on to really bring everything together better.
I really like Marshall. He was so patient and kind and really gave Silas what he needed in a safe way. He was so protective and the Dom/Sub dynamic was done in such a great way, not cringy at all.
Silas had a bit of a journey to find his true self but I really enjoyed watching these two grow and progress the way they did.
I really enjoyed Lincoln and the relationship that he had with Silas.
𝕋𝕣𝕠𝕡𝕖𝕤 / 𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕥𝕠 𝔼𝕩𝕡𝕖𝕔𝕥 💛 Age Gap 💛 Dad’s business rival 💛 Hurt/Comfort 💛 Found Family
Kate is such a solid kink writer. And really good at creating relationship dynamics that are both dom/sub, but also just two men building a relationship.
Marshall is a solid and caring man, for all those he loves, and even young men who are talented and skilled but aren’t being respected by the father they work for?
And the way he helps Silas come into his own, giving him the space to be himself, and the care to let him be free of all that worries and stresses him.
It was a lovely (and spicy) journey, with some equally lovely side stories about brothers and best friends, all of whom I hope we get to see again soon.
What I loved most about this book was how it balanced heat with heart. The kink was written so naturally, but it never overshadowed the relationship; if anything, it deepened it. You really see two men figuring out who they are, not just in the bedroom but in every part of their lives.
Marshall stood out to me as this rock-solid presence, the kind of man who notices when someone’s being overlooked and steps in quietly but powerfully. His support gave Silas the chance to breathe and finally be free, and watching that unfold was such a rewarding part of the journey.
Kate is definitely the queen of kink! She does it so beautifully and effortlessly.
On top of the romance, the threads about family and friendships gave the story an extra layer of warmth. By the end, I found myself hoping for the side characters to get their own HEA.
Love by Design is book 1 in the Risk Awake series, and it deals with a Dom/sub (BDSM) relationship, so you should read the trigger warnings before reading the book.
I loved Silas and Marshall. It's been a while since I've read a BDSM book, so it was a treat reading one that was not only well-written, but that while delving into pain, lust, and domination, also showed the depth of feeling, love, and care Marshall and Silas had for each other.
I really liked the secondary characters, and I'll be looking forward to getting to know them better in the future.
This is definitely a recommendation from me if you enjoy BDSM books; just heed the warnings, because I know this is not for everyone.
*** Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure; a review wasn't a requirement. ***
Silas is an architect. He works with his dad. His dad seems to take Silas and his talent for granted. Enter Marshall, his dad's nemesis. Silas has no idea why his dad can't stand the man. What Silas does know is that Marshall is everything he has ever wanted in a partner. He makes him feel safe and tells him repeatedly how amazing he is as an architect and as a human. Marshall is Dom/boyfriend perfection! He was so gentle with Silas. It was almost as if he could read the other man's mind. The way he knew just what to say or do for Silas to keep him grounded. Silas has a BFF Lincoln and they are freaking bestie goals. Any lesser man would be jealous af of their friendship but not Marshall. He is, as I mentioned above, perfection. I am so looking forward to Lincolns book. I wanna know all the things about him.
If I’m being honest this was almost a little too kinky for me 🙈 Hot as hell and if pain is your kink then this is the book for you 🥵 With 10+ spicy and seriously kinky scenes, you won’t be disappointed.
I think with the D/s dynamic I missed some of the mushy lovey moments a bit. Definitely could have more of a love story for my preference, but that doesn’t take away from this being a great, well written book. If you’re looking for a D/s book that’s not just scenes but everyday life for the couple, this is it.
The side characters in this book weren’t lacking either and I’m excited to read more of this series to see if Marshall’s brothers reprise their roles 🙃 Incredibly excited for Lincoln’s story next ❤️
I've never read any of Kates books before and I was so excited reading the blurb when signing up for this one and was so excited when I was lucky enough to read it.
This book didn't disappointed at all it had me hooked from the very first page until the end. For the first book of the series it had me wanting more soon as I finished it.
I enjoyed watching the couple grow there d/s relationship
It was a sweet and spicy book and all the kinky fun
I can't wait for book 2
Thankyou for allowing me to be an arc reader for you and this is my honest review.
Interesting story. Marshall and Silas don’t seem to have much in common other than being business rivals at first. Silas puts himself at risk during a scene at a club, only to have Marshall stop things before they could get bad. Their BDSM relationship needs match up and it works beautifully for them. The side characters are quite varied, with some quirky, some driven, and some just plain stubborn. The fathers of the MCs are shining examples of what not to do as a parent. It did seem that there were a few loose ends left hanging, though. And some of the characters could have been developed a bit more to make it feel more complete. All in all, not bad at all!
