Maxim Volt has defended his rule against the depredations of industry, but a greater challenge awaits him.
Marriage.
For not only does he have to organize a rite of fealty, where the various powers of the Grimm Valley swear loyalty to him and his house, but he must fend off a bevy of sometimes murderous brides eager to become the mistress of the castle. Be they from the Hundred Houses of Europe, the vampire courts, or even the witch covens that lurk in the shadows of the forests, all would delight to rule Grimmwald at his side. As his wife.
Or his widow.
Grimmwald 2 is the latest haremlit book from Jay Aury! A Discworldian fantasy of love, politicking, and mad science! Included are witches, werewolves, yandere tsunderes, and the complicated economics of parmesan.
A very solid follow up tbh! The entire was set up and concluded well, while the whole , a usual annoyance in books like this, was actually fun and quite bearable *heh*; the problem though is, as always with these types of books, the relationships with the girls:
1. Honestly just skipped all the sex scenes; I dont really read books for this, but neither am I a prude. I think if you write a romance -or harem as here is the case- you gotta have it, but its also not why am I reading fantasy books like these.
2. Speaking of, Katerina was interesting in the first book, and I had high hopes for her. Unfortunately, with the exception of an exceptional contribution she offers to the crew, she is mostly a fanservice throwaway character.
3. Bitsy: we learn more about her and get some parts of her thinking that build her up as a character - a nice change of pace from the first book- but she is so insufferable. I cant put into words how annoying she is.
4. We get a nice bit of backstory on the majordomo and some nice story elements she is a protagonist in, but her relationship with the Master of Grimmwald and sudden love for him (a complaint of mine in the first book), is so out of the blue that I am kinda checked out.
5. Ah! Moira. 'Best girl' to use a term of phrase which the author uses, gets a fair bit of action, and while I would have liked more backstory on her, I am happy she isnt just in the background anymore.
I am sure I had other feedback, but dont have enough time rn. Ciao!
This book was a solid follow-up to the first, and I quite enjoyed it.
This series has proven to have a great deal of wit built into it. The MC being more or less the "straight man" to all the absolutely bat crazy people that are not only his lovers, but his enemies, and friends. It's a never ending amount of the MC shaking his head and wondering what the heck it will take to get a normal response.
Such great dark humor entrenched throughout this wonderful series!!! It is a pleasure to read such a wonderfully written fantasy adventure story with this much out right humor!!! Keep the series coming!!!
I absolutely loved reading this book. It was funny and engaging. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and entertaining. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book and series are definitely worth checking out.
This was fun, very pratchettian. I think this series could have legs, just wish it released faster, I could easily read 7+ books of this. The chemistry is great between characters and the mansion has a life of it's own. I like the MC isn't chained to the house like is typical in this trope/genre.
This is a fine light fantasy harem adventure novel. It is well written and edited. I especially like Moira the castle manager. I anxiously await the sequel.
