Love stories that also teach!

I am thrilled with this type of novel! Love comes with learning, and sex comes with fumbling around! I have nothing against sex, but most readers don't have to have it spelled out for them! This writer gives us freedom of imagination, dwelling more on the human spirit! Great reading! I love this series!

Once again, I read a series out of order. I read book two of this series written by Tamara Ferguson called “Tales of the Dragonfly Book II: In Flight” But like the other series’ that I’ve read out of order, this book stands wonderful on its own. Tamara Ferguson is a very talented writer. Not just because of how she wrote the story and how she gave the characters unique personalities and backgrounds but also how she made this book stand great on its own. She did this by having the characters from the first book in this one as well. But I didn’t want to take a chance by not familiarizing myself with the first book so I read the description of the first book as well as some of the reviews from Amazon and Goodreads. However, I found it to be both entertaining and unnecessary. It seems that Tamara doesn’t want any of her readers feeling lost or confused.
The main characters of the first book; Danielle and Jake are somewhat secondary in this one. They’re getting married to each other and a woman named Penny Wentworth is in charge of the floral arrangements. Although she’s involved in this very festive wedding, she’s not that excited about it because the wedding is just a harsh reminder of her own failed marriage to an abusive man as well as carrying the responsibilities of her autistic son, Alex. But things start to turn up a little when she’s reunited with Sam Danielson, a childhood friend. What she’s not aware of is that Sam has a troubled past too. Not just a failed marriage of his own but he’s also chief of police and has been trying to solve a murder mystery that is currently haunting the town. But after spending some time together, their worries begin to fade that is until Sam’s ex tries to return to him so they can get back together. But his ex isn’t the one who brings back worries to Sam and Penny. It might be the serial killer of the town. So in order for Sam and Penny to re-discover their chemistry, they must fight for their lives. But will they be able to get to the point of dating?
I love how authors blend in genres and Tamara Ferguson is one of those authors who does it beautifully. She’s able to blend in romance, suspense as well as humor. Once again, this book is a part of a series but it stands great on its own. Definitely check out the first book and hopefully more after this one.

If you enjoyed meeting Danielle and Jake in Tales of the Dragonfly Book 1, you'll be delighted as they reappear in book 2. Others from that first book walk on stage as you read. It's like a homecoming, all set up around a wedding in the luxurious Inn at Dragonfly Pointe. Love is in the air, not just for the bride and groom, but for Penny the florist and Sam the police chief. This well-written book captures the exuberance experienced by childhood friends who get a second chance at passion and romance.

Tension and suspense infiltrate the idyllic scene, too, though. Just below the surface, old tragedies and past mistakes tug at the well-developed characters. New conflicts soon emerge, and the action really heats up when there's a murder. Love and suspense are deftly interwoven in this page turner. The investigation into whodunit takes the characters and readers on a thrilling quest for the truth. A great romantic suspense tale! Five Stars.

Reviewed for Readers' Favorite.

Sam and Penny long sought one another, but neither knew of the interest of the other. Their journey to reunite is at the center of the mystery Tamara Ferguson presents in Tale of the Dragonfly: Book II: In Flight. Sam is the local police chief in the Wisconsin town in which he met Penny years before. For her part, Penny moved to New York where she handles her family’s floral business while caring for her autistic son. When they spend time together at the wedding of mutual friends back in Wisconsin, Sam determines it is time to pursue Penny. Each had left a failed marriage behind and Penny had been abused by her former husband. Consequently, they have some difficulty in learning to trust one another. While their mutual friends support their reunion, someone else has another plan in mind, a plan that could leave Penny dead.

Tale of the Dragonfly, set in a lovely Wisconsin lake town, includes a host of characters. In it, Tamara Ferguson has presented a story of intrigue, mystery and love. When Vanessa, the woman Sam (thought he) had divorced, shows up in town and is later found dead, the police and FBI try to put the pieces together. All the while, Sam and Penny seek to determine whether they have a future together. When it becomes clear that Vanessa’s murder was personal, readers will urge Sam on as he rushes to solve the mystery before harm might befall his beloved Penny.

I absolutely loved this story--

Penny Wentworth has arrived to her former hometown of Crystal Rock to arrange flowers for the wedding of her friend, Danielle Loughlin. Handsome and sexy chief of police, Sam Danielson, is her escort for the wedding. There’d been a mutual attraction between them as teenagers.
With some surprisingly dark subject matter, this story had the potential to become depressing. But the blending of romance and suspense by the author is wonderfully done.
Instead of letting her troubles with an autistic son weigh her down, Penny moves forward day by day, never asking why, and always attempting to stay focused on the positive. But the only problem is, she’s seemed to have given up on any future happiness for herself. Sam immediately decides that he’s going to be the one to change that for her.
And Sam and Penny are perfect for each other. For one reason or another they never had the opportunity to act on their attraction for each other before life led them down different paths.
Their relationship is tested when Sam’s ex-wife (who isn’t really his ex-wife) turns up to interfere.
The author’s character development is wonderful. I even found myself sympathizing with Sam’s ex-wife in a really big way(but no spoilers.)
What I really enjoyed most about this story was its total unpredictability—I never knew what was going to happen next—except for the happily-ever-after ending—of course!

Book 2 is a much tighter written book and flowed much better for that. There were still some rewinds but dealing with a couple is fine. Also the info dumps weren't quite so prevalent, making the story go smoother.
The focus this time was on Sam, the police chief, and the girl he let get away in his youth, Penny. The human trafficking theme from book 1 is very faint in this one, as it focusses much more on the relationship of Sam and Penny - and how Sam's ex-wife embroils them in murder, intrigue and brings out the torrid details of her past.
Again, not everyone is as they seem and the picture perfect setting of Dragonfly Pointe has dark currents swirling underneath.

Interesting romance from the heart of an American point of view. The social fabric and interaction of the characters makes for a lively and endearing read. The imagery created for place and situation was very well done.

This is Sam and Penny's story. Their journey and how it shapes them, the possibilities. Of risk and love and patience. Bravo!
