Heedless

Being killed by an enraged psychic was not on the top of Jax Jensen’s to-do list.

As an agent with the Department of Inquiry, it’s his job to investigate the organizations and employees that make up the Intergalactic Federation of Free Planets. Hated by all, respected by none —from the military, to the customs office, it’s an agent’s job to dispense justice and enforce loyalty as he sees fit. Life expectancy in this position is mysteriously short… but it won’t be for Jensen, if he has anything to say about it.

On a seemingly routine compliance inspection of the Free Planetary Navy ship Heedless, Jensen is pleased to see loyalty is at an all-time high. Hell, someone even had the courage to look him in the eye before breakfast. But the biggest surprise comes when Jensen finds out that a Twisted is being held aboard for a previously unknown operation, he is eager to find out what exactly its true purposes aboard are, or once he finds out, if he will survive to see the next day.

“Heedless” is the debut short story for The Jax Jensen Trilogy, a prequel trilogy following Agent Jax Jensen as he stumbles through the rigors and challenges, both on duty, and off, of being an agent with the Department of Inquiry.

I was pleasantly surprised after finishing this book. The author didn't go overboard with all the detail which made following along very easy and enjoyable. When starting the book, you're already aware that it is a series, which always begs the question on where the author will decide to leave off. I loved the way this book ended, leaving enough to the imagination to want to read the next one without being a huge frustrating cliff hanger. Overall I was very pleased with this book and can't wait to read the next one!
