Scarcity
Olivia's days are occupied with trying to provide for the people of Freetown.
Not only does she have to deal with terrorist attacks, she also has to manage her own ill health and the decision of to whom she should pass the torch.
Against her wishes, her husband, Ryan, takes over and begins a purge in the city. In the process he finds an artificial superior intelligent simulant.
He discovers the previous four generations of simulants have slipped through his fingers but unfortunately the Mercians also find out about the simulants and invade to take one for themselves.
A fight for survival ensues because the consequences of Mercia gaining superior intelligent capabilities are unthinkable.
Can Ryan and his simulant resist? The lives of all in Freetown depend on it.

I enjoyed reading "Scarcity"! As an Eastern European resident, I saw how a dictatorship emerges from a regime that struggles to creatively redistribute poverty. Then what can generic AI do in such a regime.
All in all, an engaging read, with well-drawn characters, that keeps you on your toes.

I did enjoy this part of the series! It has lots of action & adventure, a few unexpected moments, which is always great! A well thought out plot adds interest to the storyline in this gritty, well developed dystopian world. I do recommend!
