Shopaholic on Honeymoon

Rate this book
This free eBook short story fills in the gaps of Sophie Kinsella's bestselling Shopaholic series, following Becky Brandon and her husband, Luke, as they start their luxurious yearlong honeymoon around the world. But these jet-setters are about to hit some turbulence. Becky and Luke are in Venice-the city of winding canals, gorgeous historic buildings, and, of course, exceptional shopping. To unwind from the stress of their wedding, Becky has planned an utterly blissful honeymoon where, for an entire year, they will hop from one country to the next-Italy to the Czech Republic to Sri Lanka and beyond-as they please. But lately, Luke has been more restless than relaxed. In fact, he seems (unbelievably!) like he wants to go home. Will Becky be able to save their dream vacation, or will their globe-trotting come to a sudden halt?

Sophie Kinsella had sold over 40 million copies of her books in more than 60 countries, and she had been translated into over 40 languages.

Sophie Kinsella first hit the UK bestseller lists in September 2000 with her first novel in the Shopaholic series – The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic (also published as Confessions of a Shopaholic). The book’s heroine, Becky Bloomwood – a fun and feisty financial journalist who loves shopping but is hopeless with money – captured the hearts of readers worldwide. Becky has since featured in seven further bestselling books, Shopaholic Abroad (also published as Shopaholic Takes Manhattan), Shopaholic Ties the Knot, Shopaholic & Sister, Shopaholic & Baby, Mini Shopaholic, Shopaholic to the Stars and Shopaholic to the Rescue. Becky Bloomwood came to the big screen in 2009 with the hit Disney movie Confessions of a Shopaholic, starring Isla Fisher and Hugh Dancy.

Sophie had also written seven standalone novels which have all been bestsellers in the UK, USA and other countries around the world: Can You Keep A Secret?, The Undomestic Goddess, Remember Me?, Twenties Girl, I’ve Got Your Number, Wedding Night, and My Not So Perfect Life, which was a Goodreads Choice Awards finalist for Best Fiction in 2017.

In 2014 she published a Young Adult novel Finding Audrey about a teenage girl with social anxiety and her madcap family, and in January 2018, Sophie published her first illustrated book for young readers about the charming adventures of a mother-daughter fairy duo, Mummy Fairy and Me (also published as Fairy Mom and Me).

Sophie’s novel, Surprise Me, published in February 2018, presents a humorous yet moving portrait of a marriage—its intricacies, comforts, and complications. Surprise Me reveals that hidden layers in a close relationship are often yet to be discovered.

Sophie wrote her first novel under her real name, Madeleine Wickham, at the tender age of 24, whilst she was working as a financial journalist. The Tennis Party was immediately hailed as a success by critics and the public alike and became a top ten bestseller. She went on to publish six more novels as Madeleine Wickham: A Desirable Residence, Swimming Pool Sunday, The Gatecrasher, The Wedding Girl, Cocktails for Three and Sleeping Arrangements.

Sophie was born in London. She studied music at New College, Oxford, but after a year switched to Politics, Philosophy and Economics. She lived in London, UK, with her husband and family.

Yes, throw a fit because your new husband is the fucking worst and you never should have married him because he's only willing to take a month off for a honeymoon instead of the year you wanted. Gawd. Becky is a complete and utter nightmare.

That is it???

It was nice to hang out with Becky and Luke again. Becky was funny and selfish as always and it was an enjoyable read.

However, since this story started with the chapter title "Venice" I expected to read about their adventures somewhere else as well.
Reaching the end I had a feeling someone ripped off pages and I didn't get the whole story. The fact that I've read it on my kindle is the only thing that proves me I actually read the whole piece.

It was OK. Super short kindle freebie on Amazon USA. Followers of the Shopohlic series won’t miss out on anything significant by not reading this novella, and it certainly doesn’t show Becky in a positive light IMO. There was some humor but I was disappointed in her little tantrum. Poor Luke...

I missed this couple! I read the entire series several years ago and I loved it!

Whenever I need a good laugh, I like to revisit one of her books.( I really recommend I've Got Your Number , not a part of this series but it's my favorite by her).

Becky and Luke are on honeymoon and Becky really knows how to drive him crazy! Poor Luke..
No need to say that this novella was really funny and cute!

It was so short (53 pages), but free on Amazon and iBooks! Recommended to fans of this series!

Fabulous..

Much comic than what's expected. Full of fun and and amazing read. Sophie Kinsella made me love this book and I would definitely read more from this series and rest from her.
Humorous one. She made good use of the personification as well. Few quotes were too good to read again and again and Laugh as much as you can. Like;
"here we are in LA. The home of celebrities. They’re the local natural phenomenon. Everyone knows you come to LA to see the celebrities, like you go to Sri Lanka to see the elephants."

Written well, it became an add-on to my fav-list.

Awesome.

Shopaholic on Honeymoon

Becky is a shallow, selfish and dump person. Wants to buy everything she can get her hands on. Treats her husband like garbage. Acts why too absurd.

«Che diavolo è questo?» Luke è tutto sudato mentre carica il nostro ultimo acquisto sul taxi: un grosso pacco rivestito di cartone ondulato, cellophane millebolle e scotch. Lo fisso indignata. C’è bisogno di chiedermelo? «È il nostro servizio da dodici calici di vetro di Murano!»[..]Luke guarda di nuovo il pacco enorme. «Era proprio necessario comprare dodici calici?» «Sono di vetro di Murano» gli spiego paziente. «Siamo a Venezia, Luke.

This is a short freebie. Part of the Shopaholic Series

I just adore the shopaholic series. This one takes place right after Shopaholic Ties the Knot and takes place on Becky and Luke’s honeymoon. This is a short story (about 28 pages) and was written because there was a gap between Shopaholic Ties the Knot and Shopaholic and Sister. Of course, in this story, Becky is back to her humorous antics buying anything in her visual field. Kinsella really knows how to write a LAUGH OUT LOUD story that makes readers smile every time. Very cute short story and its FREE!

Genre: Chick Lit

Book Type: Short Story

Overall Rating: 5 Stars

Recommendation: Yes, to fans of the series.

I have read other Sophie Kinsella books and loved them but I always avoided the Shopaholic series as I didn't think it would be my thing.
Well, if this short story is anything to go by I was right!
I didn't like this at all - what an annoying vacuous person?! And the story consisted of nothing at all except little scenes that were supposed to be funny (obviously I didn't get it).
Not for me I'm afraid - the best Kinsella book is Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella which is in the chick lit genre too and is witty, moving and not too shallow.

Becky was at her worst and I disliked her so much. She was on vacation and didn't want to spend some time with her husband at all. She just wanted to do some shopping and was extremely impulsive: deciding suddenly to start a new hobby but without trying it first she just bought expensive equipments. Luke wasn't so much more likable either.

Setting was still awesome but I would have loved to get more details about surroundings.

This is a cute little short story about an incident that took place during Luke and Becky's honeymoon. It's classic Shopaholic fare, focusing on Becky's love of shopping and her habit of getting into bizarre predicaments.

While it doesn't add anything new to the series, it's a quick read that fans of Sophie Kinsella will enjoy.

A very short teaser about Becky Brandon née Bloomwood and Luke's honeymoon. I love the Shopaholic series and have read all of the books. This was a delightful snapshot of them starting off on their travelling adventure. Wish there had been more! Despite the length, there were a couple of giggles and classic Becky moments. Hope to see another book in the series sooner than later.

Ehhh. So this was kind of the beginning of the end for me with this series. Becky was just insufferable in my mind on how she was behaving while on honeymoon with Luke. The concept of money just does not factor into her head. And this book sets up the problems that will be front and center in the next full novel, "Shopaholic and Sister." Becky sees something and imagines her as the girl with the Venetian glasses or the girl with the art easel and she realizes her reality is not like the fantasy in her head. I applauded how well she took care of things in the last book, but she said some nasty things IMHO to Luke in this one.

The big fight in this one though goes back to Becky wanting to take a year long damn honeymoon. At this point in the story they have taken a month off. I don't know what else to say except I was not weeping for Becky or her ridiculous self by the end of this one.

I read somewhere that Kinsella was going to end the series when Becky and Luke got married and she really should have. Up until this short story and the next novel you don't see how selfish and honestly manipulative Becky is.

To be honest, we needed it. Our whole wedding situation turned into a bit of a saga, and we’ve both been really tense. In fact, at one point I actually thought we might both have nervous breakdowns. Or heart attacks. (Or some kind of horrible, stressy skin complaint, which would have been the worst.)

****************************************************

We don’t need to struggle round the world with all our mementos. We’ll just send them home! “Won’t it be fun when we get home and open everything we’ve bought?” I turn to Luke. “It’ll be like Christmas!”
“Yes.” Luke looks a little doubtful.

****************************************************

This is the only tiny difference between Luke and me. He likes reading about buildings and exhibits and history, whereas I only have to read the words Built in 1755, the church was originally…and I fall asleep. (Which is quite handy on planes, as it happens.)

****************************************************

But we’re married now. This is our honeymoon. Everyone knows that when you get married the slate is wiped clean and neither party should refer to any unfortunate incidents in the past.

****************************************************

Surely it’s against the marriage vows to bail out of your honeymoon? Talk about lack of commitment. Talk about lack of priorities.

****************************************************

We’ve patched up our fight and the sun is shining and we’re drinking prosecco and we’re going to a masked ball next week! And I already know exactly which marbled stationery shop I’m going to go to. This is going to be a fabulous honeymoon.

The new Mr and Mrs Brandon are on honeymoon, and Becky has big plans! They’ve got a whole year to explore Venice, learn yoga in India, sleep in little wooden huts in South America… maybe even see penguins in the Arctic. But it soon becomes clear that Luke has different plans entirely. Can Becky help him let go, or will this little disagreement threaten their whole honeymoon?

This was cute but not necessary. I would recommend reading this if you are a fan of the series and have a short commute or have twenty minutes to kill. However, it's not as good as the first six books of the series.

Becky is so flaky. Don’t know why Brandon did not divorce her while they were on their honeymoon.

Ah! I just wish I had enough resources and a willing husband (and no pandemic) for a year long honeymoon around the world. Better still, ditch the husband and all responsibilities and travel wherever I wish to. I promise, I wouldn't go on a shopping spree and buy useless stuff.

Shopaholic on honeymoon

This is a short story set right after the wedding between Luke and Becky. It is set in Venice and they are on their year-long honeymoon.
I loved that Becky is still Becky. She purchases an expensive art set and she does not know how to draw. Her artistic abilities are in her desire for the art set.
Luke is also Luke in the sense that he decides he can't take a whole year as his business requires him to return.
I enjoyed reading this snippet in their honeymoon and it reminded me why I love the Shopaholic series.

Shopaholic on Honeymoon is a short story in the Shopaholic series by British author, Sophie Kinsella. Becky and Luke are on honeymoon: Europe and the rest of the world, a year, fantastic! But in Venice, the path of true love gets a bit rocky. Becky’s souvenir shopping is out of control, her attention span typically short and Luke is having trouble becoming the relaxed traveller Becky hoped for. By the time ‘I wish I’d never married you!’ flies from her mouth, things are looking dire. This is a delightful free short story that also includes a preview of “Shopaholic to the Stars”. Great fun!

This short story comes between the third and fourth books in the Shopaholic series. Unfortunately this didn't live up to the full length novels for me. It felt like Becky as a character regressed into how she was in the first two books which I feel is a shame after developing so much. I did enjoy seeing the couple in a different country but the length of the story definitely needed to be longer in order to make any impact on the rest of the series in my opinion.

Was a nice little additional story (how did I not know this one existed?!) and had a few great bits of the usual humour in it. Just a shame that Becky wasn't portrayed in a fantastic light, and wasn't very kind to Luke in this one.

That was quick. It's fun to read what situations Becky gets herself into. I understand why people wouldn't like it though, she does border between 'adorably naïve' and "she cannot be that stupid".
