Beard on Tap: Barren Hill, Book 1

Rate this book
Used to be, the family bar was hopping until last call every night. Now? If the bank doesn't take her away from me in the next two months, it'll be a miracle. All because some fatcat politician thought building a new highway would earn him a few more votes. The last thing I need? A firecracker who has curves in all the right places and a smart mouth, telling me what to do to save my own damn bar. I can do this alone; except I recognize the pain I see in those moss-colored eyes. Sure I don’t need any help, but it seems like she does.

All I wanted was a relaxing vacation. Fresh mountain air. Some uninterrupted time with a book. Yeah, right. Maybe I could relax if the bar I stumbled upon—literally-- wasn't run by the sexiest, and most annoying, man in the world. Five minutes in, I couldn't decide if I wanted to drag him across the bar and kiss him or pour my beer down his flannel shirt. He won't ask for help, but what he doesn't know? I've never backed down from a challenge. Finn's going to learn just how stubborn I can be. And maybe… we'll find our happily ever after.

Most of these are always written in third person, as if the author isn't the one actually writing them. So, I'm going to be a rule-breaker and write it in first person instead. I'm a native Chicagoan, vegetarian, and lover of big words. I randomly burst out into song, and have been known to carry on entire conversations (with those worthy of the challenge) in song lyrics. The same can also be said for movie quotes. I'm quirky, sarcastic, I've been told at times I can be a bit esoteric, but overall I'd rather be dancing in the rain than waiting for the storm to pass.

And I LOVE connecting with people- so go on, hit the "friend" button. :)

This is a short ,fast paced read with strong characters and an entertaining story line. The author does a great job describing both her characters and scenes and had me laughing out loud throughout. I enjoyed watching them come together. Loved and would recommend this book.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

When it came to first impressions, Gemini was not standing tall when she met Finn. I mean this literally. Gemini had tumbled down a ravine and that is where Finn found her. Yet, Gemini still had plenty of her feisty side to her.

When it comes to the mountains and "mountain men", I want my man to be a tall, burly man. Someone who is not impressed by expensive items and can handle himself in the bedroom. That is someone like Finn.

Once, Finn and Gemini got to spend time in each other's company, you could feel the chemistry between them. Which I loved that they did not instantly fall for each other right away. It felt more nature that they hooked up later in the story. In addition, there were many moments where I found myself chuckling with laughter as well.

Beard on Tap is not to be missed by romance readers alike!

The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Speaking of filling…..wait, that’s for later. Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with!
By the time you’ve figured out who is who and how deep hate can run, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter!

Can’t say I didn’t warn you.

(Believe me when I say you won’t put it down until the last page is read…you will find yourself getting upset cause someone called, texted or bothered you while reading this one, you will find yourself up at ungodly hours just to finish it knowing you have to be at work early (like 3am early) the very next day) YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!
The Spring’s Mountain Men series is amazing and you won’t want to just read one however, each book reads as a standalone but why would anyone want to read just one with a series like this. City girl meets mountains basically Gemini goes into the mountains unprepared where she slips and fall. Yep, sexy as all get out bearded mountain man Finn to the rescue but it isn’t going to be a bed of roses Gemini gives as good as she gets yet the chemistry is instant and intense. Is it enough for both to take the time to get to know each other and can it lead to happiness?

Thoroughly enjoyed this read - great banter between the 3 characters and even though the main 2 were often prickly it worked well to illustrate their development during the length of the story. I definitely have to read Emmett's story next!

The author added a note that some readers might not have resonated with a character with infertility but honestly that's real life! More so than say, vampires, shape shifters, aliens etc :)

Sometimes it takes the hero and heroine a while to recognize insta-love, like Finn and Gemini in BEARD ON TAP. The sexual tension is the perfect brew for this sweet couple. Makes me want to drive into the mountains and see what's on tap. Read the entire Spring's Mountain Man series for more steamy instalove romance reads.

This story was sweet, steamy, romantic, safe and so freaking funny😍😍😍 😂😂😂 Gemini and Finn had great chemistry and a bit of a love and hate relationship in the beginning 😉 They met by chance or rather fate and got their HEA in the end. Great story with wonderful characters, and dialogues that made me laugh out loud quite a few times😂😂

I really enjoyed watching the growing of three characters. The way they worked together to rebuild a dream! I look forward to Emmetts story. I hope is isn't the threesome you referenced. I hope he finds his one and only. I personally am not a fan of more than one love per person.

The couple: Finn and Gemini

Romance genre: contemporary
Series: Spring's Mountain Men
Length: 98 pages

Plot: Gemini's sister sent her to a resort in the mountains to relax and have fun. Gemini's had a rough time of it lately between her divorce and being fired. But once at the resort, she meets local bar owner Finn. He's gruff and surly, but she can't stay away from him. But they both know there's a time limit on this fling; Gemini's going home soon.

Commentary: These were both amazingly normal people. I would have liked a little more, in order to see how Finn deals with continuing the bar as his own thing and not just an outreach of his childhood trauma. And I would have liked a few years out to see how Gemini is dealing with her sister (she was a piece of work!). But I still enjoyed this story, enough that I'll look for more from this author.

Previous book in the series: My Mountain Man
Next book in the series: Big, Bearded and Brilliant

This was brilliant! I had so many laugh out loud moments over how the characters speak, meet, interact and the various almost fate led moments that have them crashing into each others lives and histories. I wanted so desperately for them to have a HEA, and was hooked each page onto the next by the forced time limit of the situation (trying to write this without spoilers lol).

I have genuinely saved a few lines as they were SOOOO good, I might have alarmed my family a little by snorting with giggles - I promise this is unusual for me, I'm quite difficult to make laugh aloud.

Inhaled it in a couple of hours, just couldn't put it down- the best of the Spring's Mountain Men collection of books (and I've downloaded them all, and read half through) This is head and shoulders above the others.

Excited to see what else the author has to offer!

Wonderful story

This is a new author to me and not only did I love the story and the characters but also the authors mea culpa. No apologies are needed for writing characters that dealt with infertility. It is something people hate to talk about. I loved that Finn and Gemini found each other and were good enough as is. While I do have a daughter, we could not have any more and it is a hard thing to deal with and admit. I loved Gemini’s fierceness and How was alpha but not. They were a wonderful pair. I don’t write too many reviews but I do when a book speaks to me.

Gemini’s trying to find herself again after a sudden divorce leaves her reeling. Finn’s trying to save his bar from going under. Can these two broken souls find happiness in each other?

Okay, so I absolutely loved Finn and Gemini’s story. It was fast paced, yes, but it didn’t feel rushed or forced at all! I loved everything about how their relationship develops, and I think it’s amazing how they found happiness with each other when they weren’t even looking for it. I would definitely recommend this one to anyone who wants a quick, steamy read!!!

I was looking for a short read before going to bed the other night, and stumbled upon this audiobook in my email, so curiosity got the best of me as I put my headphones in my ears and dove into this little Barren Hill town.

I thought that the banter between Finn and Gemini was freaking golden. When she slips and goes tumbling down the ravine because of her flipflops and then gets carried like a swaddled baby by Finn. I laughed way too hard.

Let us take a moment to thank Robb Moreira for that perfect country boy tone that had me enjoying every moment of his narrating. Teena Scott did an amazing job as well, I just swooned a bit harder of Robb's voice though.

I overall gave this book a 4 out of 5 stars. The banter between the two main characters was the perfect balance I think. The worry that comes when you think that Gemini really left and was done with that small town living life. Then for her to come back as a person who wants to go in on the bar with Finn as a partner. It had all the elements to keep you engrossed and wanting more.

If you are looking for a short read, and want a lot packed into little time, then this one is for you. It gave me small town living vibes from beginning to end and made me feel like I was back home in the boondocks. Thank you Willow for bringing that joy into my life for even a brief moment.

P.S. There is no lack of spice in this book. **Spoiler** Both of the main characters are unable to have children, so they are free to be as careless as they would like and that they are.

I received a late ALC of Beard on Tap by Willow Sanders. This is my first book from this author and also a first listen of these narrators. From what I’ve gathered, these characters may overlap with another book or two but definitely didn’t need to read them to fully get in to this one.

Beard On Tap is a very quick listen at just over 3 hours. It’s a cute romance. I could see it being the premise of a Hallmark movie, but with the added spice thrown in.

Gemini is recently divorced and laid off from her job as a renowned chef. She’s traveled to a resort and spa in the mountains to have a reset of sorts.

Finn is a bar owner near the resort. He inherited it from his neglectful father and it’s struggling to say the least. He’s not willing to give up on it yet, even though his business partner and best friend, Emmett, is trying to convince him otherwise.

Finn and Gemini have a great meet cute. And there is instant attraction and some annoyance. Once she sees the bar, and speaks to Emmett about his menu ideas, her mind immediately starts to envision how she can help them. So her vacation becomes a mix of helping renovate the bar by day and finding pleasure in Finn’s bed at night.

The narrators on this were excellent! Their voices were absolutely perfect for the characters they played. Teena Scott’s voice is a little mature, with a bit of a rasp, which fits perfectly as Finn describes Gemini’s voice/laugh as a lounge singer. Robb Moreira’s voice had the perfect amount of gruff for a grumpy mountain man. This is done in dual, and both of them were really good at the opposite sex voice. The audio on this definitely enhanced the story for me.

One of the best lines I've read/heard in a long time: "Finn, it's a p*ssy, not a museum. Find the entrance already." I laughed so hard!!

Cute storyline, great spicy scenes, funny banter, and wonderful narration. If you’re looking for a shorter listen, this would be a great one to pick up!

⛰️Bearded mountain man
👩‍🍳Vacation fling

🎧Dual narration by Robb Moreira and Teena Scott
🎧Audio performance: 5/5

“Have you ever been spanked, princess? Because you’re fixing for one with that cheeky attitude.”

“Miss James, you are a diamond in a world of rhinestones.”

You really can’t go wrong with a small town, grumpy mountain man novella. This was adorable and I really enjoyed it. There were parts that had me laughing out loud!

I am younger than both the characters, but it was really nice to take a break from the mid-20s MCs and get to see a different perspective of the MCs in their 40s. We definitely don’t see enough of that. Gemini was awesome; finding herself after a divorce, dealing with infertility, and job hunting…she probably wouldn’t say it, but she’s a boss ass bitch.

For such a short book, I think this was perfectly balanced with some plot and smut! I rated it a 2🌶️ because there were a few scenes, but also they have a lot of dirty thoughts hahaha.

And oh my gosh, the narrators. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to Robb or Teena before, but in the first few chapters I had to double check if this was dual or duet because Robb did an awesome female voice. I was stunned! Obviously, as the story went on, I realized it was a man’s voice, but it was insane. Both of their ranges are crazy and it made the story so much more immersive and enjoyable. This was a PERFORMANCE!

I have not read the ebook, but if you check out this book, I highly suggest doing the audio! This is one I say is definitely a must-listen over an eyeball read. I can’t wait to listen to book 2 when it releases on audio!

Thank you Willow and Indie Pen PR for the ALC! 🩷

“Beard on Tap” is what happens when a mountain man with broody charm meets a firecracker chef. But the real main course here? The audio. Robb Moreira and Teena Scott serve up a piping hot performance that’s equal parts sass, spice, and swoon.

Robb Moreira is two for two in my audiobook world, and frankly, I’m convinced the man could read from a toolbox manual and make it sound entertaining. His emotional depth and mastery of accents are peak talent. Finn comes alive in his voice, every growl, grunt, and vulnerable moment laced with the perfect amount of “grumpy with a gooey center.”

Teena Scott is a narrator I didn’t know I needed. She captures Gemini’s take-no-crap attitude and soft interior like she was born for this role. Her delivery is crisp, confident, and full of charisma, making every snarky comment land and every intimate moment linger. Together, Teena and Robb are magic—they bring the crackling tension, the tender silences, and every bar-top flirtation to life with chemistry that leaps from the speakers.

The story itself is a quick-hit romance novella packed with charm. Gemini, on a “relaxing” vacation that turns out to be anything but, literally stumbles into Finn’s bar, and the sparks start before the bruises fade. She’s a known chef, he’s floundering, and neither one is ready for the other. What follows is a delicious enemies-to-lovers-lite dynamic with a dash of culinary heat and a splash of hometown redemption.

Audio Review:
This short, fast-paced listen was such an entertaining listen. It was both comical and sweet. Definite sexual tension that keeps the listener in its grasp. Gemini and Finn both had great chemistry, and that love-hate relationship was there. It may be short, but this book has so many things to unpack in it between the characters, from friendships to romance, to banter, to comical relief; this story has an amazing mixture of it all.

Finn looked around The Old Lady and wondered how this had become his life. Instead of spending time with friends growing up, he had been working here, his dad’s dream.

The bar that used to be the place to be was now empty most nights since the new highway bypassed their town. He looked at all the repairs that needed to be done and wondered how he could keep from losing the only thing he had left of his dad.

It would take a miracle to keep it away from the developer hovering over him like a dark cloud.

Gemini should have been enjoying time away with her sister in this beautiful resort in the mountains. Instead her sister gifted the complete trip to her so she could have a much needed vacation from her life.

Not only had there been a mass layoff at the hotel restaurant where she was chef, but her husband of fourteen years decided he wanted a divorce. A week to escape her life feeling an absolute failure.

She planned to bask in luxury and her fresh start. That was until she wandered out of her private cabin for a short walk, and found herself falling down a ravine and being carried like a sack of potatoes over the shoulder of her angry rescuer.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable.

This book is action-packed and full of angst. Finn needs to save his bar and Gemini needs a new start. Can they be each other’s answer? Highly recommend!

Say it with me, fellow writers: proofreaders are your friends (not food).

Y'all, there was an annoying number of spelling and punctuation errors in this book. Seriously, my brain actually started to hurt after a while. Of course, no amount of proofreading could've fixed the writer's insistence on padding the pages with scenes that went on a little long (such as the one where Finn, Gemini, and Emmett are trying to figure out a new name for Finn's bar) or plotlines that stretched out too long when there were easy, foreseeable solutions to all their problems. I mean, really, how did it take so long for them to figure out that ?

On a more positive note, Finn made for a pretty decent romance hero. He was tall, tattooed, and I kept imagining him with a smooth, Trace Adkins-like voice. He was also kinda growly (in a good way), though I gotta take off points for him brooding over his daddy issues. As for Gemini, I couldn't totally relate to her, but she was at least realistic and hey, brownie points to the author for writing a heroine that had struggled with fertility.

Overall Verdict: 5 Tuckaway Taverns out of 10

I have been loving the multi-author Spring's Mountain Men series, especially as it has introduced me to a couple authors I have not read before. Willow Sanders is one of those authors, and her wonderfully-written Beard on Tap has made me a fan. A well-developed story, two engaging characters in Finn and his Princess Flip Flop aka Gemini, and extraordinary chemistry make this a must-read and an entertaining one at that. Their meet-cute is rather hilarious - not exactly instalove but a fun way to introduce the two leads - when distracted vacationing chef Gemini takes a tumble into a ravine and is less than thrilled when local bar-owner Finn comes to her rescue, quickly chiding her choice of footwear while hiking in the woods. But first impressions cannot quell the attraction between the divorcee and the bearded mountain man. This is definitely a favourite in this fabulous series, and I highly recommend it!

Beard on Tap
Spring's Mountain Men
By Willow Sanders
Narrated by Teena Scott, Robb Moreira

Fun and feisty, Willow Sanders has drawn me into this world of her. Finn runs a small town bar. It's struggling and if he doesn't turn things around, he may just lose it. Gemini is passing through, finding herself in a ravine with a hurt ankle. Finn helps her out and takes care of her. He finds out she is on vacation after her divorce, and now staying, she is helping him with his bar. A chef by trade, she uses what expertise she has to maybe turn the bar around. But don't think it's that easy! Yes, the chemistry is definitely easy, the passion high but the bar is a whole other story. This is definitely a fun one, full of the broody hero and the spunky heroine. Loved it!

Teena Scott is Gemini, full of attitude, trying to survive and the way Scott portrays her is spot on! I loved the push pull she emits. Robb Moreira is new to me and his broodiness could not be better. He has tuned into the personality of Finn perfectly. I enjoyed these two and their narration.

Beard on Tap is book one in the Barren Hills series and is the story of Finn and Gemini. This is a strangers to lovers, small town, insta-love romance.

Gemini needed time away following her divorce and a trip with her sister turned into a solo trip to a resort in Barren Hill. On her way to her cabin, Gemini falls into a ravine and is rescued by the bearded bar owner Finn. As their personalities clash, passion ignites between them. As a chef, Gemini has the experience to help revitalize Finn's bar, if he will get out of his own way long enough to let her help. As her time at the resort draws to a close, both realize there is more between them than they are willing to admit.

Beard on Tap is a short, spicy novella with strong, well written characters who stand up for themselves and each other. The writing was great and the characters pull you in. I listened to this audiobook thanks to Indie PR and I enjoyed the narrators overall but the male narrator's accent was not what I expected and could have used a little softening. Overall, I enjoyed the audiobook and the story itself.

I really enjoyed this audiobook! The narrators I felt like the narrators fit the characters very well and I was able to picture them perfectly while listening. Finn is definitely a mountain man I’d love to run into at the bar 😅 Gemini I did adore as our FMC with going through a tough time she was truly so strong. These two had great banter and had me definitely giggling while reading. This was a very fast listen and I did finish in one sitting. Overall I totally recommend adding this audiobook to your tbr.

I loved this story. It's short, fun, and spicy, but it does have a few grammatical errors throughout. However, those errors do NOT deter from the story or the enjoyment of reading about Gemini and Finn.

When Gemini finds herself in an unfortunate situation, Finn comes to the rescue, much to her dismay. No matter how angry she is at the fact this large, bearded man has to carry her out of the words and down to his bar, she can't deny the instant attraction she feels. And, Finn can't deny that he could use this woman's expertise on running a restaurant. As the two work together to renovate Finn's bar, they find themselves growing closer and closer - and the hot sex helps too.

I loved the world Willow Sanders created, and I loved her characters just as much. Gemini was fierce and strong. And, Finn was demanding and sweet. If you're a fan of small town romances, spicy romances, or real characters, this is the book for you!

Beard on Tap is a short, sweet delightful romance set in Barren Hill. Gemini is a recently divorced chef who is visiting a resort when she falls into a ravine. Finn, the owner of a failing bar, “ The Old Lady”, hears her calling for help and rescues her. It’s all uphill from there. As they work together to save his bar(along with Emmett “Stubbs”), they become closer. Is this just a vacation fling or can it be everlasting? This audiobook is extremely entertaining. The dual narration by Teena Scott and Robb Moreira was phenomenal. Their accents were fabulous. You could feel all of Gemini’s doubt, hurt, happiness, lust and love. Robb Moreira as Finn was absolutely divine. He had a beautiful southern accent as well as a captivating alpha, growly voice. He was commanding when warranted but he could also be sweet. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook and am looking forward to more in this series. I highly recommend listening.

This was my first book by this author and I am really happy I got to read it and I definetly want to read more from her!
This story takes place in a mountain town, were our MMC Finn is about to lose his father's legacy : the bar he owned his whole life and left to his son. Our FMC Gem is freshly divorced, unemployed since she just lost her Chef's job and is heartbroken. Then, they meet and their struggles becomes a team effort to rebuilt things together and help eachother out while having fun for the time Gem is around. But caring so deeply about someone else's well being and projects tend to throw feelings in the middle of it all and I loved seeing this relationship develop.
A short, facepace read that I really did enjoy!

Trigger warning : Please, be aware that it is briefly discuss that both our main characters can't have babies/get pregnant and it is such a delicate and hard subject for many so know that this is talked about in this book. 🤍

Beard on Tap was a cute, romantic novella with a chemistry you can feel a mile away.

Finn and Gemini are the examples of opposites attract. Finn is a stubborn, proud bar owner with a pure heart. He honestly sounds like a giant teddy bear. And Gemini can be just as stubborn, but her stubbornness comes from determination. As soon as she found out Finn's bar was in trouble, she put all her skills to use and was going to the turn that bar around no matter what.

Teena Scott and Rob Moreira were the narrators for Beard on Tap. I love how much Teena portrayed Gemini's feistiness. Between the attitude, broken heart, wise remarks and banter, I felt like I could see Gemini, especially with an I told you so smirk. And Rob brought out that rugged grumpiness that Finn had. He had the alpha vibes one moment and the next he was like a golden retriever all comforting. I loved how these narrators could switch through emotions so easily.
