"But still there's a split—a moth-shaped divide. Tell me, Sorcerit, will your answer be right? Or will you consign us to doom-colored night?"
Ages ago, an Oracle foretold a malevolent doom, coming to rain death over Bordoroth and the Five Realms. Yet, as time crawled on, the empire flourished and her riddled warnings were ignored.
But shadows creep slowly. They whisper and wait, patient as they stretch towards those they seek to consume.
Unbeknownst to Brand, they stalk his every footstep, threatening everyone around him, and his only hope for saving them is a powerful and mysterious healer from the neighboring realm.
Lunara.
The otherworldly beauty ignites something primal within Brand, her vibrant spirit tempting him past a lifetime of reservations for the chance to get closer. Conflicted, Lunara struggles to resist his magnetic pull, torn between her own deepening desire and the deadly cost of her secrets.
Poor fool. Fate is a dark and twisted creature, and refuses to be denied.
A series of devastating attacks draws them closer, horrors ravaging the realms, forcing Lunara to confront not only the starving night... but the one male who deserves her truths.
Lunara must decide: claim her true identity and face her own end, or disappear forever to keep Brand safe.
One wrong choice may spell ruin for them all.
Of Moths and Stone is the first installment in The Towers of Bordoroth series: an epic fantasy romance featuring lyrical prose, lush, immersive world-building, and an intricate, character-driven plot. This gritty and breathtaking love story is perfect for fans of The Witcher, the War of Lost Hearts trilogy, and When the Moon Hatched.
K.R. Fryatt is a former opera singer who finally put her foot down in order to realize her childhood dream—becoming a published author. Now, she writes epic, swoon-worthy romantasy novels about complex characters finding their inner strength, experiencing radical self-acceptance, and meeting their true, fated love.
She resides in the mitten state with the real-life book boyfriend she married, their three amazing kids, and an aging Samoyed who's afraid of his own shadow. I will never be chill about Of Moths and Stone and I have 287 highlights to prove it 🤣 This book has imprinted itself onto my soul and will be a forever favorite. When I say I like books that emotionally ruin me…. 😮💨 this book had me physically reacting and sobbing more than any book I’ve read to date 😭 (pretty sure I cried through most of the second half) The mental health rep is done so phenomenally well. It’s raw and I found myself connecting with pieces of both Lunara and Brand’s struggles, which just made the story that much more impactful for me.
The imagery in the prologue of the oracle coming to deliver a prophecy of the Bordoroth line drew me head first into the story. Right off that bat I knew this was going to be a 5⭐️ read from the beautiful writing alone. The world building is done in a way that bolsters the plot well and perfectly lands itself in the epic fantasy realm. It was twisty, thrilling, sexy and the character driven storylines kept me devouring every word!
The found family Fryatt delivered in OMAS is unmatched. I love every single relationship the secondary characters formed with our FMC. Seeing Lunara heal from her past traumas with the help of others was so special to read. Magnus, Hedda, Nyri, Thad, Fern 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
I’m fully obsessed with the world K.R. Fryatt has created, it’s packed with diverse, magical races and celestial everything. The FMC is so strong/ sassy/ relatable. Brand is the king of yearning and has easily earned a Book Husband title, his own sassy rage form is everything 😈🖤
I could go on and on, but please - if you love an epic fantasy, demon warrior princes, mysterious celestial healers, powerful magic, monster battles (think Witcher!!) and some of the most deliciously creative spicy spice that will leave you gasping (or crying at how tender and beautiful it can be) then you absolutely need to preorder + add to your tbr!! I am blown away by this 👏🏻 DEBUT 👏🏻 and cannot wait to continue the series after that maddening jaw-on-floor cliffhanger.
KUDOS TO K.R. FRYATT FOR BLOWING HER DEBUT OUT OF THIS REALM!!! The little girl in your dedication would be in awe of what you created and so proud 💞
**thank you to the author, K.R. Fryatt, for the eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own**
This is the kind of book that truly sends you deep into a fantasy world. The kind that makes you think words are so beautiful, and how marvelous it is that some people are gifted enough to weave them that way.
This fantasy takes you through the lands of Bordoroth and follows the protagonists, Brandir and Lunara. A demon king and a sorcerit who meet each other under unfortunate circumstances. Lunara's journey, in particular, is an intriguing storyline to follow. She has secrets that she has carried for decades that made her limit herself. The growth she goes through in this book is wonderful to see. You watch her try to keep herself as small as possible and not wanting to take up space to leading a legion. This includes her challenging the voices she hears in her head that discourages her and tells her the worst about herself. That struggle felt particularly important to me, because it speaks to those of us who feel like impostors in our own skin.
I also enjoyed the romance aspect of this story so much. The yearning and the natural progression of knowing someone and discovering they are more to you. If anything else, I loved how much Brand was so completely devoted to her and constantly assured her. I can't even tell you how much of the words they've told each other I have highlighted. Or how many of them I've teared up over.
There are also other characters you get introduced to that are so memorable and endearing. Magnus is definitely at the top of that list. He's such a charming character whom I'm looking forward to knowing more of. There is also the rest of Brandir's family and the friends Lunara has made.
It's also fascinating how the villains don't seem very linear. One may seem only antagonistic to someone in particular, and they also seem to have their own intentions and drivers. I'm frankly interested in knowing who they really are and how they fit in the whole picture.
I was lucky enough to receive a free ARC of this book from the author, but I would legit purchase this for myself because I truly think this is the kind of book I'd want to own. Highly impressed with this debut, and I am looking forward to having everyone else read this.
I didn’t know I needed a walking green flag with handle bars and a larger form, and a superpowered moon mommy with fangs. 800 pages of such.
I also didn’t know this would be a 6 ⭐️ read.
Down to the hierarchical system, the magic, the power, the stunning features of everyone and everything — all was made from Fryatt’s brilliant brain and brought together so incredibly in book one of this epic romantasy.
Brandir aht Bordoroth, Fourth Imperial Son and High Ambassador of Bordoroth, is a timid, anxious-filled demon with so much power and strength.
Lunara the Moonweaver, our Sorcerit, is a very lonely, very sad healer who has been left to defend herself. Her powers, though? Unmatched.
Brought together in ways you’ll only understand if you read this story, they go through epic turns, changes, and adventures. You will literally be on the edge of your seat, asking questions left and right. Yelling at your kindle.
The found family in this story is absolutely stunning. As is the character growth in this story for so many of the characters, EVEN THE SIDE CHARACTERS !! It’s beautiful. Truly a work of art to see.
Now let’s get into the tension. The spice. OH MY GOD THE TENSION. IT BURRRRRNNNNNED. They burned for each other. It was hot, it was wild, and it was something I will go back to reread… for science, duh. Be ready for a beastly man who likes his handlebars gripped, and beautiful woman who takes what she needs. Unf. Yum.
This is a book of stories. A tale of riddles. Plot that just kEEPS FRIGGIN PLOTTING. I have never been so enthralled by a storyline. Usually, I get tired of so many unanswered questions, but the pace of which they’re slowly answered had me reading most of this book in one sitting (albeit, some questions are not answered due to this only being book 1, though I know they will be once all is said and done.)
At the end? I cried. I could tell if I cried because it was over, or if I cried because of what happened. Maybe both.
Overall, 6 ⭐️, 2 🌶️
Thank you so much to the author and team for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Of Moths & Stone. I simply cannot wait for the next book!
5⭐️ I am normally a picky fantasy girly because they tend to lean all towards the same premise or story line. NOT HERE BABY. This book sucked me in on the prologue with privacy of the lands.
The mental health rep in this book is so raw and real and I was crying through most of it in the best way possible. Do not get me wrong there is some spice along the way that will knock your socks off (strawberries 😉) but still tasteful and not overbearing the plot.
We do still have some unanswered questions because this is the start of a series but I don’t mind it bc I had such a good time reading the book. Granted I am ready for book 2 and hopefully get to ARC read that one as well but I’m still grateful for the experience and the found family in this book.
Fated mates is done so beautifully that it is one of my favorite fantasy tropes but this one had a little extra spice in it that made Me love it more. Also can’t believe I’m gunna say this but using horns as handle bars is now in my favorites list too. K.R. Fryatt really started us off strong and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the books will be like. To the extend that I preordered a paperback copy and can’t wait to display it on my shelves.
If you are an epic fantasy romance lover than this is for you. Think The Witcher (warrior x witch/healer vibes) x LOTR with:
✨ prophecies + quests to solve it ✨ witty banter + funny inner monologue ✨ inappropriate use of strawberries 👀 ✨ demon with horns that she uses as handlebars 🤭 ✨ fated mates ✨ shifters ✨ feeding 🩸 ✨ some hot spice 🥵
This was EPIC and took some big brain power to follow so if you are looking for an easy read this is not it. This is for the readers who like THICC reads with big juicy glossaries they have to reference often 🤭
I am so obsessed with this book even though it left me on a massive cliffhanger 😭 BUT the character art I can obsess over has made up for it 🤭
ANYWAYS epic fantasy romance lovers read this immediately!!!
A solid debut to what promises to be an epic series! If you enjoy romantasy and are sick of the tired out elder fae/ elder teen girl relationship- give this one a try!
The world building was unique and interesting but not so complex as to be impossible to follow. I loved the strong female character and the diverse characters, a creature for every realm. It’s multiple POV with some identities hidden/not revealed.
Before we get started, I want to thank the author, K.R. Fryatt, for an e-ARC of this book! Second, all thoughts of this book are my own and y’all, I have a *lot* of them per usual because WHEWWW! What. A. Journey. Of Moths and Stone is one of the most immersive fantasies I’ve read in a while. My brain chemistry has been altered forever and I think I live in Bordoroth now.
The story starts off very unassuming until it’s not. In that time, we meet the MMC. Brand is the fine as hell Imperial Son and High Ambassador to Straelon, aka The Montrealm, home of the Demons. He really REALLY doesn’t give a flying eff about his title, struggles with anxiety, and just wants his damn mate to show up.
Eventually, we meet Lunara, the FMC. She’s a very talented Sorcerit with healing powers from the Evesong realm called Nachtelliae and very clearly has a LOT of secrets (probably more than Gretchen Weiners). If you’ve ever heard The Bolter by Taylor Swift, Lunara is the embodiment of that song. But she can’t run for long because she’s somehow found herself in Straelon to heal a Demon.
Also, one thing about me is I love side characters and they did NOT disappoint. One I’d like to highlight is Magnus, who is without a doubt, 10/10 my favorite. What do you mean a hot, blonde, tattooed wolf shifter captured my heart?! COULDNT BE ME (narrator: it was her). His comedic timing and role in this book was everything to me and if you don’t love him, I will be questioning your taste! There were so many other lovable characters and I’d be remiss not to mention Nyriadne specifically. Talk about the sun shiniest Demon I have ever seen. Like, your honor, I love her.
Now, tropes and favorite things in fantasy books? We are EATING y’all. We got battles, prophecy, mental health rep, found family, burn it to the ground, FEEDING SCENES, fated mates, forced proximity, demons, sorcerers, wolf shifters, fae, multi-POV, and SPICE SPICE SPICE.
Plot? She was PLOTTING. There was a lot going on but I was somehow able to keep track of it all. Could I use my words to explain it to you? Probably not, and THAT is how I know this book is a legend in the making. I was giggling and kicking my feet one minute and sobbing the next. I know I already mentioned mental health rep, but I felt so *seen* in so much of this book, it was crazy. It’s like K.R. reached into my memory bank and said “I wrote this for you.” With that being said, please make sure to check the trigger warnings because there’s some heavy subject matter in this one.
I am still stunned and will need 7-10 business days to recover. It was just…WOW. What a masterpiece. I canNOT wait for book 2!
If you need me… I’ll be staring at a wall, day dreaming about Of Moths and Stone until further notice.
This truly has everything I love about a romantic fantasy. I laughed, I swooned, I cried, and loved every second of it.
I will forever be chasing the high Lunara, Brand, and the rest of the Bordoroth crew gave me. I can’t wait to see what else K.R. Fryatt has in store for us.
Electric and I couldn’t put down!!!! Brand is officially part of the “sweet and kinda sassy book boys brigade”- K.R. Fryatt knocked it out of the damn park- if you love high Romantasy, this is for you ✨✨✨
Of Moths and Stone by K.R. Fryatt is a beautifully woven fantasy that blends myth, ritual, and human longing in a way that feels both intimate and epic. The writing is lush and poetic, drawing you into a world where fate and faith intertwine.
I was especially captivated by the depth of the world-building — the lore of the Sisters, the symbolism of rituals, and the sense of destiny shaping every relationship. The characters feel alive, their vulnerabilities and strengths etched with care. Themes of love, sacrifice, and mystical protection run deep, making this not just a fantasy tale but an exploration of what it means to be bound by fate and choice alike.
Highly recommended for readers who love lyrical storytelling, complex characters, and myth-inspired fantasy worlds. 🌙✨
This book should come with a warning. ⚠️Do not read if you are pregnant or otherwise emotionally vulnerable.⚠️ It will use and abuse ALL of the emotions.
Absolutely and easily 5 ⭐s from me (despite my current tears)
I laughed, I cried, I highlighted the heck out of so many words because I felt them resonate in my soul and I fell in love with pretty much all of the characters!
Thank you so much for the ARC. I love and hate you for it right now.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I had the chance to ARC read this amazing book, and I’ve read it twice. Each page it gets better and better. This is in my top 3 reads of 2025, might even be number 1.
This story is shrouded in mystery (the beginning, and during with the little voice in Lunara’s head). This is a story of prophecy, self-acceptance, overcoming insecurities, and love. I am obsessed with this world, with the characters, and the whole storyline.
Brand honestly is his own worst enemy, and so is Lunara. Brand is someone that is honestly hard to describe, he is otherworldly (obviously this is an epic fantasy but HE IS MORE). I really am trying not to give spoilers 😭😭.
Lunara oh oh sweet Lunara. My whole heart is with that lady. She is the stars, she is amazing. She is so sweet, she is so gentle (unless she’s not 😈😈) and I love her she deserves all of the happiness in the world. She had a TRAUMATIZING past, and she was in her own little world (literally) until one day, she senses people entering her land and grabs a pan to defend herself. However- it was just Thaddeus, and suddenly she’s being dragged in to this chaotic family and on a wild adventure that turns in to more.
Next! The world building?? It is superb. It is easy to understand, and the way K.R writes this story, you will get transported right in to Bordoroth. The character development is 10/10 *chefs kiss*, everything about this book is AMAZING.
BOY OH BOY THAT ENDING!! I cannot wait for book 2!!!
This book is for the romantasy readers, the high fantasy fans, and I highly recommend that you read this book.
What a debut! I was thoroughly gripped from the start. Fryatt does an excellent job creating characters who feel very human in their flaws, while being otherworldly in a new and exciting way. And the world-building & magic systems are so fresh and interesting! I can't wait to dive deeper into this epic fantasy world and take more adventures with the whole Bordoroth crew.
This was a slow burn romantasy dragged you into the realm of Demons and kept you there. You are voluntarily held captive by the love and comraderie the Umperial Sons have for one another, their cousins and their King.
Lunara reluctantly agreed to help heal Baldir, leaving her life of isolation, albeit temporarily supposedly. After successfully healing Baldir, Lunara meets a shy and awkward Brand.
Their journey makes you laugh, makes you sit up straight while holding your breath, makes you sigh and melt and it also makes you cry. This is a wonderful story with a kaleiscope of characters that just makes you want to know them better.
This is one that I will be buying a physical book of.
Thank you @author_k.r.fryatt for honouring me with an ARC copy and please tell me #2 isn't all that far away?
“You are worthy of everything I have to give, and there’s no greater honor for me. Don’t let it tell you otherwise.”
Hey you! Yeah, you! Do you like…yearning? Heart wrenching characters that just want to love and be loved? Two people finding each other against realms, against odds, against their own pasts? YOU DO? WELL DO I HAVE THE BOOK FOR YOU
Of Moths and Stone follows Prince and Demon Brandir and a vampire-esque Sorcerit Lunara as they work together to uncover strange forces that are plaguing their lands.
There’s a little bit here for everyone. Do you like political intrigue? Got it. Do you like fights? Got it. Do you like prophecies and gods? Yep, that’s here too.
And oh yes, there’s *spice* and it is delicious.
Thank you SO SO MUCH to the author for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review
Of Moths and Stone completely blew me away. The world building is EPIC. Lush, intricate, and alive in a way that makes you forget you’re reading fiction. The love story is heart wrenching in the best possible way, the kind that lingers long after you finish.
The characters are some of the most brilliantly 3D I’ve ever read. Brand has officially joined my top book boyfriends list and Lunara made me feel so seen. The portrayal of mental health and chronic illness was handled with such care, honesty and realism that it truly hit deep.
And Magnus…👀 I cannot wait for his story. I need MORE.
This book is going to stay with me for a long, long time.
CW: violence, gore, mental health, loss of family, trauma, spice, torture, some others
Thank you to the author for the ARC! “Of Moths and Stone” is available now!
Don’t mind the screaming; that’s just my soul leaving my body after that ending.
Prophecies are fickle things, and fate relies upon the decisions of those involved. Lunara and Brand don’t know it yet, but their lives are about to be thrown together, and each will have to fight to survive.
Listen, I do my best to keep my reviews mostly free of all-caps screaming, text slang, and other altered forms of explanation; they’re not formal essays (mostly), but I try to keep them fairly well-focused. When I tell you that this book has me exclusively wanting to type everything in capital letters because I have *ALL the feels*…
Honestly, you could skip this entire review because it entirely boils down to “go read it immediately why are you still here.” That’s it; that’s the entire review. But if you’re nosy and want more information first (rude), I’ll try and help.
This book sits somewhere between cozy vibes and ‘I’m going to rip my hair out from stress.’ I don’t know how it embodies both so effortlessly, but it does. The romance aspect between our MCs is incredible. It’s sweet, it’s funny, it’s a little bit ferocious. Almost every moment with the two of them felt so utterly removed from the rest of the story in the best possible way; they became their own little island of peace and I adore it. Even when they’re still figuring themselves out, even when they’re determining what ‘us’ looks like for them, it’s suffused with the most perfect feeling of safety.
And now for the other half— the rest of the plot. The plot didn’t just thicken; it thickened, congealed, solidified into a brick, and then whacked me over the head with the ending. I’ll be sending the author both a thank-you note and a bill for my recovery. There is so. Much. Going on and I just know we’ve barely seen half of it. Every time I thought I had a handle on what was happening, I discovered that it had a handle on me and was swinging me around like a party whirler (metaphorical ear-splitting shrieking noise included). When I tell you I was absolutely sat for this entire book, I’m not kidding. It had me in a vice grip from page one, and I’m still reeling over the ending. Book two cannot come soon enough because I have *questions* and *concerns* and I need answers.
Do you want to feel all the emotions? Would you like to cry, stress, rage, have just a little bit of joy, and then find it all ripped away from you again? How about if we do this repeatedly for over 600 pages? The answer is obviously yes, and you should go pick up this book at once. How about world building? Do you need that part explained? If my delight and horror at the plot and characters didn’t give it away, the setting is insane (I didn’t even get to the incredible secondary characters, but if I go down that path we’ll be here for another 600 pages). It’s beautiful and unique and it just feels like there’s so much we haven’t even gotten to explore yet. The magic?! Unreasonably amazing. Beautiful. I could live in this world forever, but I’m very much concerned my heart couldn’t take it.
Incredible. I genuinly feel like I am more after reading this story.
The fantasy worldbuilding was beautiful, we have faes and demons, magic, fated bonds, everything you need. The plot was well executed, every little thing was intentional, every interaction, every whisper led to secrets and twists.
Protect Lunara at all costs (not like she needs it, she's a badass). Her character development is so heart warming, the way she went from hiding from the world to opening up and accepting herself and learning to trust others, and that she's not alone.
Brand is a true loverboy. I was giggling so much, when He acted shy and blushed around her. His support was the definition of unconditional, he was there for her, even when she made decisions that hurt him.
"A bow was a safe, easy. Expect he didn't bow, ot take a step back, ot let go. He just stood there, staring at her like a hopeless fool."
"You have your own light, Lunara."
He was also stuggling with the weight of leadership and finding his purpose in life. I looove that their first topic they bonded over, was their mental struggles, and how much peace they felt after realising, someone understands them.
"This. This was where his life finally began. He was home."
But let's be clear, It wasn't his story, it was hers.
I originally signed up for this book because I thought the cover was pretty and the premise was something I could get into. Let me tell you this book hit me right in the face in the best way. I am usually not a fantasy girlie but I think this is the book that fully converted me to dive head first into this genre.
For an opening book in a fantasy series (and I think also the debut novel for this author), this book was amazing. The world building was incredible, the characters were rich and well rounded. She did a really great job of writing a found family and making us really invested in the characters. Plus we also have that added bonus of a mystery??? Like say less I’m already so invested.
My sweet Lunara, the sweet sorcerit just hiding herself away to keep everyone safe and just trying to exist in her own little corner of the world. Brand as a demon high imperial son with so much anxiety who doesn’t exactly want to be in power but still does it anyway. I do enjoy reading a fated mates story, and this one was no exception. The YEARNING. Be still my heart. And to top it all of, the mental health rep in this book?? So unexpected but so well written.
Also shoutout to Magnus. We need more Magnus.
I honestly can’t wait until I reread this book, which will likely be a lot sooner than later.
Thank you to K. R. Fryatt for an advanced copy of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book feels like stepping into a dream spun from starlight and sorrow. Of Moths and Stone is a beautifully crafted fantasy that blends prophecy, power, and the messy truth of being human. We follow Endellion — an Oracle torn between destiny and self — as she faces danger, loss, and the heavy price of knowing too much.
✨ What I Loved: • Endellion’s growth? Stunning. She’s strong, flawed, and achingly real. • The world-building is chef’s kiss — layered, magical, and utterly immersive. • The themes hit deep — mental health, identity, resilience — all woven seamlessly into the fantasy.
⚙️ What to Keep in Mind: • The pacing slows down in spots — not every moment is action-packed. • Lots of lore and characters, so pay attention — it’s a rich tapestry, not a quick skim.
💫 Final Thoughts: Of Moths and Stone is a slow-burn fantasy that glows with emotional depth and lyrical writing. If you love stories that make you feel while they transport you, this one deserves a spot on your shelf (and in your heart).
"And when I exhale for that final, endless time… No matter how far away from me you are… Know the last breath I shared was yours as well, and that I rejoiced in the privilege."
I was all set to give this one 4stars but the second half of the book blew me away!! This story is hauntingly beautiful, tragic, and inspiring. The internal journey that Lunara goes through is so, so good. Brand is the epitome of a supportive book husband. His strength and tenacity was perfect and I just fell in love with him! I can't wait for his journey in book 2! That book ending was.... Very cliffy. You could kinda see it coming but the outcome is just heartbreaking. It was an Onyx Storm "stare at the wall" ending! Book 2 now please!
The one thing that threw me off was the beginning. It was cryptic and prophetically and just hard to follow. I think it very possibly could turn a reader away from continuing. However, it was worth the journey in the end!
Of Moths and Stone is a story filled with imagination and heart. The world it creates is unique and atmospheric, with a sense of quiet magic that lingers in the background. There’s a lot of creativity here, and you can tell the author had a thoughtful vision for this story.
That said, the pacing felt quite slow for me, and the opening in particular was a bit hard to follow. At times, I found myself confused and wishing for more clarity to help ground me in the characters and the world. The writing style is lyrical, but it occasionally made the story feel more distant than engaging.
Still, I truly believe there is potential here. The foundation is strong, and with some polishing—especially around pacing and structure—I can see this story resonating deeply with the right readers. There’s something quietly lovely about the world the author is building, and I’ll be interested to see what they do next.
“home was the way he said her name and stole her breath.”
for the romantasy lovers who are craving expansive world building and more of an epic fantasy plot, this will bend your mind in the best way! what an incredible debut!
the mental health rep of both the fmc, and mmc was written with so much care and respect! the relationships and dynamics (good and bad) between the found family kept me invested in their journey.
that cliffhanger was ruthless 😩 my jaw was on the FLOOR (along with my heart) 🥹 book two is one of my most anticipated reads now.
if you like - multi pov healer fmc prophecies anxiety rep cute nicknames FOUND FAM <3 horns = handlebars so many twists & reveals 🤭
thank you SO much to k.r. fryatt for gifting me a copy of this earc. i can’t wait to pick up a copy for my shelf!
Do not get discouraged by the page numbers of this book….it is absolutely worth every single minute spent reading, however long that might take. This is a magical universe unlike any other romantasy I have read. Creatures of all kinds and a magic system that is different but really cool! We have fated mates! Fated mates get me every single time! I freaking cried in the middle of the book! That is NOT something I do very often. To get me to cry, you have to make me feel every single emotion to the very core of my soul! This book did that! Brand and Luna are beyond words! Not to mention an entire family that comes together rock solid for those they love! This book ended and left me kicking my legs and shouting NO!!!!! I am beyond ready to keep this story going and I need to see Brand and Luna through this! Side note: the freaking spice in this was hot as hell!!🥵
First and foremost, thank you so much KR Fryatt for trusting me with an advance copy of your book. I am always humbled.
Now the meat, this book....this book was wildly gorgeous, at turns stark and funny and spicy and deep. It really kept me on my toes. So many secrets and layers, complex characters with so many struggles, both internal and from outside forces.
Brand and Lunara are stunning, powerful characters. Both are haunted by inner turmoil and self doubt, but with a massive capacity for love and care for others.
The number of times I screamed at this book, gasped out loud, kicked my feet and ran to my DMs or Threads to be like wtf...WTAF.
No doubt about it, 5 stars all day, from here to beyond the veil.
Thank you to K.R. for this long and interesting read! This was indeed consuming. Time wise and mind consuming. So many thoughts. I love it. There was so much going on and much to remember, but it starts to come together. So many questions too. You really start to love the characters and the world. I really like Magnus. Everyone is intriguing. So excited for more! I recommend to people who love fantasy, strong characters, found family, and endless love and power.
-found family -magic, shifters, fae, etc. -fated mates -warrior x healer -prophecy -chronic pain rep
Thank you K.R. Fryatt for sending me this advance review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was a chonky book at over 800 pages. It was a little bit of a struggle for me to get through a book that long. I feel like it would have been better split into 2 books.
The worldbuilding was great, but there were times it felt like there was too much going on to keep track of. All the main characters were nicely fleshed out, and they felt like real people.
This book has a little bit of everything going on like prophecies, fated mates, a wide variety of creatures and people, and the spice was oh so delicously hot. I loved the emphasis on mental health, and that was great to see.
I'm really bummed the ending was a huge cliffhanger!
Overall it was a great book, and I really enjoyed it.
The sheer dedication to the world building alone deserves all the props (certainly all of mine). And when the yearning hit, good lord it did so beautifully.
The way the author wrote people, animals, even surroundings was so detailed and used a fine-toothed comb. I am yearning to know the identities of some of the POVs, and genuinely am so excited for the next novel.
First, thank you to the author for the ARC copy of this book! This review isn't in any way influenced by the fact that I got the ARC, and those opinions are very much my own.
I have had a hard time gathering my thoughts on this one because WHAT A BOOK. The general writing is top notch, and truly immersive. I've been sucked in from the beginning and couldn't put it down. I laughed, cried and screamed. Before we dive in, please check the trigger warnings because there are some heavy subjects in here.
The story has an easy start with our MMC, Brand. He doesn't really care for his responsabilities as an Imperial son and wishes he could be anywhere else but where he is because of his severe anxiety, shyness and awkwardness. His anxiety was written perfectly. And this gives us a first look in the dynamic between all the Imperial Sons and especially with my guy Magnus hehe. Despite all the complexity of being rulers - which brings a strange family dynamic - I loved their relationships.
Our FMC, Lunara is a very talented but recluse Sorcerit that is first called in because of her healing powers. She also doesn't want to be there as she has a lot of secrets and is riddled with her own particular demons from her past. But fate has other plans for her. I related a lot to her, and she broke my heart so many times that I lost count. I just want her to be happy please.
I've touched this already but the side characters of this book are so good! Every one of them has enough backstory for us to care about them, and enough time that you get to know them a little bit. You'll love them, be suspicious of them and want to scream at some of them. You'll surprisingly laugh a lot too. I have a soft spot for Magnus, who is the comical relief Brand need in his life, and Nyriadne who is the support Lunara needs.
Now, let's talk about the plot. This book is plotting, and hard. There is a lot going on, but it's made so you can actually follow. I rarely felt lost. I mean, did I understand everything and did all my questions get answers? Obviously not, it's only book one. But it was very well executed. It's a great first installment for the series and I cannot wait to know more !!
There was never a moment when I could guess the plot. It was genius. Another world, bringing creatures never imagined, in a complex tail that had me craving more.
