This book is so special to me. My brother Ronnie, who died of a heroin and fentanyl overdose in 2018, introduced me to Alice in Chains. I will never forget hearing Layne's voice for the first time as "Rooster" blasted through his speakers.
Layne is one of my all time favorite singers, and one of the best vocalists of all time in my opinion. This book is so incredible and personal, hearing from his parents and siblings, and seeing pictures of him starting with moments in his childhood and going throughout his adult life. I love the "I can make noises" printout from his childhood school. From the options of like a rooster, like a dog, like a cat, like a goat and like a sheep he coincidentally checked what?? ROOSTER!!!
The pictures of the hand written lyrics gave me chills. It is amazing that even though many of the originals were stolen, his mother had made copies and kept them. Her level of organization in life led to us having this personal, amazing glimpse into Layne's life.
Layne was an incredible individual. He was so talented and gave the world his special gift, his voice. My favorite Alice in Chains song is "Nutshell". The raw emotion and pain is haunting.
If you are an Alice in Chains fan, and a Layne fan, I would find it hard for you not to find this gem of a book amazing.

Beautiful soul and beautiful tribute
Layne has been my favorite vocalist since I first heard "Man in the Box". His voice so powerful. His words so profound. I'm so glad his mother did this for us. I cryed most of the way through, not just for the singer we lost but also for the mother of that little boy, I have 2 sons and I can just imagine what she's lost.
It's a beautiful thoughtful book by his family. The letters are heartfelt and heartbreaking.
Any lover of him and his music will love this.

It takes a special mom to try to help people that she doesn’t know because she lost her own. This was a labor of love and an eye opening insight into a tortured soul. It’s obvious Layne Staley was one of kind and this book cements it further.

Heroin took him far to soon. He was such a great vocalist and musician. RIP Layne. Rooster is still my favorite.
