Amiel loves his garden, it's his safe space away from the judging eyes of heaven. He never had reason to suspect someone was watching him there as well, someone willing to lay a bear trap in his path. Luckily for Amiel, Ben is there to find him and nurse him back to health. But as he starts to fall for his caretaker, he soon begins to feel like Ben is hiding something as well, and maybe not all is as it seems.

Amiel was the angel who didn’t fit in, but found himself trapped on earth after being attacked and permanently disabled. His “rescuer”, Ben, was an antihero/villain and the love story was all Stockholm syndrome. I enjoyed the T4T love and the exploration of differences in gender dysphoria.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: dubcon, kidnapping, confinement, purposeful attack and physically disabling injuries from MMC to other MMC, grief from new disability, discussion of social isolation, mentions of hell

*3.5⭐️ Rounded up!

This novella is the first time I’ve delved into a ‘dark romance’ and I honestly had a good time. Definitely make sure to read the content warnings at the beginning of the story to ensure you’re comfortable reading! Anyhoo, I really liked learning a bit about Amiel’s experiences in Heaven and seeing how this author handled the concept of angels, demons, and the overall world. It may not be incredibly thorough due to the length but I’m very hooked on what more stories in this universe may be like. I also loved reading because of the great trans rep because it is very much needed especially in the romance genre!! The spicy scenes were definitely enjoyable and well written<3 My main gripes are that this clearly could’ve used some more editing passes before publication and that this story isn’t longer to really feel these characters get to know each other as time went on. All in all, this is a great short read for anyone craving some dubious consent and plenty of feather touching. Thanks again Enoli for the copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

An Obsession of Angels was a quick and compelling read. Admittedly, I did expect the novella to be way darker than what it was. Maybe I'm just used to reader even darker books but I did find it to be interesting regardless of how dark it was. I do wish the novella was a full length novel and had more time to flesh out the storyline. Having Ben be revealed as a demon within the last 15 or so pages of the story didn't really change much and had little to no conflict so I do feel like could've been introduced sooner to establish more horror elements. Overall though I did enjoy the story and plan on supporting the author further.

This was my first piece by Enoli Lee and absolutely loved it. It was so nice to have so much ambiguity until there wasn't! I was thrilled to see a representation of how gender can be experienced differently both internally and externally. While there are scenes that touch on uncomfortable situations, they were placed intentionally and, for myself, manageable. I loved the twist on the overall theme/situation and loved the looming sense of vulnerability the MC feels. I look forward to Lee's other works.

Personally I am not a huge fan of dark romances but I cannot deny that this book is really well written and the characters and premise are really well explored. I would definitely recommend it to people who are fans of this genre. I enjoyed reading this book and learning about the way this specific world works. The characters were very interesting and I would love to see more about them or more about this universe. A quick read that I feel like a lot of people would enjoy <3
