Explosive, sensual, and unapologetically raw, Rich and Rotten delivers Jahquel J.’s signature blend of passionate romance and high-stakes family drama—where love is the most dangerous game, and trust is the rarest luxury.
In Greenwich Pointe’s world of Black wealth and power, Tatiana Rich has everything money can buy—except freedom. When her kingpin father forces her into a strategic marriage with the Sterling dynasty’s heir, she begs Nazir Kane—the man she fell for during her college years—to run away with her.
By morning, he’s vanished without a word.
A decade later, Tatiana is rebuilding her life after her husband Karim’s tragic death. While raising their daughter and growing her luxury spa empire, an assassination attempt on her father brings an unexpected Nazir Kane—now a powerful security specialist assigned to protect her family.
Living under the same roof as the man who shattered her heart is torture enough. But as old flames reignite, darker truths emerge about the father who controlled her and the husband she mourned.
With enemies closing in and whispers that her husband’s death wasn’t an accident, Tatiana must decide if the man who once betrayed her is the only one who can save her now . . .
3.5 ⭐ Okay, Ms. Author Lady… I see what you did. The last chapters carried this for me because this was a sloooow burn with barely any action, and I’m not used to a tame Jahquel. I’m trusting book two to bring the heat.
I’m not used to a tame Jahquel J. Even in her non action packed books the drama is so good that you don’t even mind but I feel like she was maybe apprehensive to really go there with the characters. The overall plot and twist in the end had potential but I feel it fell a part and was disjointed. The characters really never had the deep conversations needed to move the plot forward so by the end I was just skeptical even in the cliff hanger. Doesn’t make sense for a father to do this to his child…
I struggled with this one and I love me some Mrs. Author Lady. This one just felt disjointed. It lacked the character development and connection that I've grown to love from the author. She's one of the few that's skilled at writing well developed characters without repetition or the risk of being too wordy, so I was surprised that this one missed the mark. There was also no real connection between the characters...or at least...I didn't feel the connection which is also rare from this author. Idk...this just wasn't what I've grown accustomed to from her. I'm still going to Stan her work though.
The problem was there was too much inner dialogue and nothing happening. I wish there was more drama and see more of the dynamics between Karim and Tatiana. More drama between Ralph and Malcom. Also the chemistry was not there for these characters.
Malcom is obviously a villain here but we got to see no action of it really. More or so through the mouth of others. I wanted more of the backstory on why the mom married him. He had no money.
This story could’ve been wrapped up in one book. I was not wowed by the plot twist instead just irritated that the book just dragged on followed by a random ending.
Sooo I liked this book! The beginning I thought I was gonna get my full on arranged marriage love story lol but boy did this book take me by surprise! Jonah is lowkey my favorite he is so funny! The side characters are interesting as well. Going in I did not know that this was not a standalone so be prepared! Overall I did enjoy this book it kept my attention wasn't too guessable either. Looking forward to more of these crazy people and to get more into their story
It’s a slow build but it felt like it was a setup to be shocked and well I was. I knew something was up but I didn’t see that coming at all. Jahquel know she can write a story. I can’t wait to see what happens with Tata and Nazir and Yaya and Jonah and idk how to even feel about what Bloom got going on.
The story was slow and often times repetitive to the point that we could have wrapped up 2 books into one. It’s a good read (i listened on hoopla), but knowing it was a cliff hanger made me more critical knowing that the repetitive and semi predictable pieces could have been shortened/condensed. That aside, it is a solid read and a different lane for Jah that i think she can tap into more.
The book was only 200 sum pages. You could have waited to put it out and gave me another 150 pages and completed the story. There's no reason to give me a novella sized book that is incomplete. Just write the entire story 🙄
Was the story good, yes. Incomplete for no reason except to make ppl have to buy another book, also yes.
This story was really boring. In her description she used the word sensual... idk why, nothing about this was sensual. A intimate scene or two does not equal sensual. The synopsis told the whole story. I read this just wanting to give this author another try after reading Capone, and that whole series. But I wasted my time tbh. This book was wordy, yet plain at the same time. Then she ended the book on a cliffhanger. Does everything have to be a series? This was a struggle to read. I felt the characters were underdeveloped. This is definitely a slow burn, but without the burn.
This was definitely a change from the current Delgato/Inferno series. It a slow burn which may take some readers a moment to adjust from the other fast paced books. Here we meet the Sterling and Rich families, black wealth in Greenwich Pointe. However, we slowly begin to see that all that glitters isn't gold. Family secrets, greed and betrayal are a recipe for disaster. Tatiana soon finds herself in the mist of long standing deceitful plots. I knew to expect a cliffhanger so that wasn't a surprise, however I hope Malcolm's karma hits sooner rather than later.
Jah with the wagon went trad and it’s still the same writing…GREATNESS!!! I ignored responsibilities for a few hours and knocked this out real quick. I didn’t even wait on my physical copy smh.
Not gonna lie, I didn’t enjoy this. Ts moved so slowwww & I genuinely didn’t care about half of the things that were happening in the story. I feel like too many plots were being introduced & not enough information was given for me to really be invested in what was going on. The ending was a shocker for sure, but that was the most interesting part for me.
Second chance romance and secret/hidden baby are two of my least favorite tropes, so that definitely played a part in why I didn’t care for this story. Tati & Nazir are grown as hell and could have communicated wayyyy better after he returned. Y’all keep dancing around this issue is not gonna make it disappear & sex isn’t gonna make it better. I just wanted more from the story & unfortunately I was underwhelmed.

4.5⭐️. All I can really say is where is the next book. That cliffhanger got me on the edge of my seat. This book was so good. That daddy was dirty and uncaring. He will get his I know it is coming. Tati and Zir omg.
This is one of my favorite authors but the storytelling was off. It was too fast and too slow at the same time. We didn’t get anything until the last 80% of the book and when we finally made progress it was rushed.
This story held me in its grip from start to finish. As my introduction to Jahquel’s work, it’s safe to say I’m fully invested for the long run. I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing where the story goes next!
I will read absolutely anything by one of my favorite authors! This one didn’t hit as much as her other work. I don’t know if I loved how this story was told. I didn’t love the pacing of this book and there wasn’t nearly as much drama/twists as there usually is.
This is by far the best book of the year for me. I did not expect all those twit and turns. I did not see what was happening. When you stay up all night to finish a book, you know you hooked and choke I was hooked.
