“He took me for revenge. He’ll keep me for pleasure.”
A forced marriage. A captive groom. A vendetta written in blood.
Emilio Valenti never wanted power. The artistic son of a crime dynasty, he lived for paint and silence until his family’s feud turned him into a pawn. Dragged into a brutal union with the Bellandis, he isn’t a husband. He’s a hostage.
Damien Bellandi is the heir who claimed him. Cold. Obsessive. Dangerous. To the world he’s untouchable. Inside the marriage, he’s the man tearing down Emilio’s defenses with precision that feels like punishment.
But captivity changes a man. The longer Emilio endures Damien’s games, the less he dreams of escape and the more he craves surrender inside the cage he can’t escape.
Because love was never promised. Revenge always was.
Until You Break is a dark mafia MM romance of forced marriage, captivity, and obsession. In this world survival isn’t enough, and breaking is only the beginning.
Since the blurb seemed intriguing, I wanted to try reading this, but I can't finish it.
The dialogues and descriptions are weird, it's throwing me off. The entire text is filled with descriptions and dialogues that don't make a lot of sense. I can tell that the author is trying to make the descriptions and the banter between the characters interesting, but they are stilted and strange.
The plot also seems odd too. Emilio is abducted and treated like a prisoner (with a dirty cell, being hurt and drugged), but the woman in charge says she did it to save him because he is her best friend's favorite child? Then she gives him to his son, who seems to have a reputation for breaking people? Her motivations definitely do not match her actions.
I was really excited to dive into this book, but it didn’t quite meet my expectations. That said, it was still a solid read with a compelling storyline—and it’s the start of a series, which is promising. The author’s writing style leans heavily on description—and I mean heavily. While some readers may enjoy that level of detail, I found it overwhelming at times. Instead of enhancing the imagery, it often felt like it detracted from the experience, almost like being over stimulated in every other paragraph. That said, there were moments where the vividness worked well—Chapter 7, for instance, during Emilio’s “force-fed” scene, was particularly well done.
I’m a big fan of the “touch him and die” trope, and I love MM romance, so I was thrilled to see both elements featured here. The book handled those tropes nicely. However, it was marketed as a “dark” romance, and I didn’t quite feel it lived up to that label. As someone new to dark romance, I expected to be more challenged by the content, but I found it relatively tame.
One thing I appreciated was the dual POV format—it’s always great to get inside both characters’ heads. However, the frequent use of third-person narrative to describe the other character’s emotions within a POV chapter often blurred the lines. I found myself confused at times—was I in Damiano’s head or Emilio’s? A good example is Chapter 24, where Damiano’s chapter includes an account of Emilio’s “terror.” By that point in the story, the fear didn’t feel authentic anymore, which made it harder to stay emotionally invested. The persistent focus on “fear and terror” lasted until about 75% into the book, which made it difficult for me to fully enjoy the payoff when the characters finally came together, and because of that – felt a bit forced. Overall, this was a good book with a strong premise. It’s possible I overhyped it for myself, which led to some disappointment. Still, there were standout moments—like Emilio being made to watch himself in the mirror or and later being stripped and made to crawl—that were intense and memorable. Oddly, though, there were no blow jobs, which felt like a surprising omission in an MM romance.
If you’re into MM or Mafia romance, I’d love to hear your thoughts—especially if you had a different take!
“He took me for revenge. He’ll keep me for pleasure.”
This book consumed me. Dark, raw, haunting — and in the most addictive way. It drags you straight into a world where love doesn’t arrive gently — it claws its way through bruises and blood and refuses to apologize for it.
Emilio and Damien are unforgettable. Emilio, the quiet captive groom with a spine made of steel and a heart he shouldn't still possess… and Damien — obsessive, ice-cold heir, all precision and violence and need sharpened into something terrifying and beautiful. Their collision felt inevitable. Painful. Magnetic. Two storms crashing until neither of them can tell where one ends and the other begins.
This is not a soft romance. It’s captivity, power, punishment, surrender, and a slow, devastating unraveling. There were scenes that made me flinch and scenes that made me hold my breath — and I couldn’t look away, even when it hurt. Especially then.
Emilio’s quiet strength destroyed me. Damien’s intensity fascinated me. Their dynamic — forced, dangerous, intimate, obsessively relentless — carved me open a little.
Quinn Storm’s writing is razor-sharp and poetic in that brutal way where every line lands like a bruise you don’t want to heal. This isn’t just a dark romance — it’s a story about surviving the breaking, about surrender as power, and about the terrifying relief of finally being seen… even when it scars.
I finished feeling wrecked and enthralled — the kind of book that doesn’t leave your bones easily.
If you crave mafia darkness with a psychological edge — forced marriage, hostage husband, obsession instead of tenderness, and love born inside captivity and fury — this one hits. Hard.
I was so excited to read "Until You Break" by Quinn Storm. A dark Mafia romance with a possessive main character? Sign me up. Sadly, I found myself enjoying it much less than I expected. By the time I finished reading it, there were only a few parts that I liked, and overall, it was a disappointing read.
The story definitely delivers on the dark, sexy Mafia atmosphere. It's gritty, with brutal scenes of violence, blood, and death that aren't sugarcoated by any means. Unfortunately, the dark tone clashes with a premise that was personally too hard for me to take seriously. Emilio Valenti, an artistic heir to a Mafia family, is abducted and "gifted" as a husband to another family's ruthless son, Damiano Bellandi. Without giving too much away, the reasoning behind their union felt bizarre, and I just couldn't get into it. This book took me longer to finish than it should have because it never fully drew me in. I wasn't immersed in the story, and reading it felt more like a slog than fun for me.
I had very mixed feelings about Storm's writing style. There were moments of beautiful, almost poetic prose, but they were offset by sections that felt unnecessarily descriptive or repetitive. I also caught a few noticeable errors, such as a paragraph that was repeated with only slight variations, and a chapter from Damiano's POV mislabeled as Emilio's. The banter was also hit-or-miss. At times, it felt overdone and lost its spark.
Still, "Until You Break" deserves credit for some genuinely steamy scenes. The bathroom mirror scene and the crawling scene were both hot, and the author really delivered when it came to Emilio and Damiano's chemistry. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to save the rest of the book from falling flat, and I felt like my excitement for it went largely unrewarded. All in all, a waste of time.

“A brutal, beautiful descent into love born from vengeance.” Spice Rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Tropes: Dark Mafia Romance, Forced Marriage, Captive Romance, Enemies to Lovers
ARC Review: Until You Break by Quinn Storm is a dark, consuming masterpiece — the kind of story that drags you into its moral gray and dares you to stay there.
Emilio Valenti, the reluctant artist son of a crime family, becomes a pawn in a violent feud and is forced into marriage with Damiano Bellandi — the cold, calculating heir who sees him as both prize and punishment. What begins as captivity transforms into a haunting, slow unraveling of two men shaped by trauma, loyalty, and vengeance.
Storm writes with precision and poetry, balancing brutality and tenderness so deftly that you feel every moment of surrender. Damien’s obsession feels like a storm contained in human form, while Emilio’s quiet resilience becomes the novel’s emotional core. Their chemistry burns slow, then detonates — a connection forged in control, loss, and need.
It’s not a story for the faint of heart — the violence and power dynamics are intense — but it’s executed with such emotional complexity that even the darkness feels deliberate and devastatingly human. ⸻ Perfect for fans of: morally gray romance, enemies-to-lovers intensity, and love stories that thrive where mercy dies.
Until You Break totally engulfed me. This book is Dark, Raw and Haunting in the most favorable manner. It drew me into the realm of obsession, pain and power where love does not come in gentle manner, it scratches its way through the chaos. Emilio and Damien are two characters that I will not forget so easily. Their relationship is risky and forceful and I could not help looking even at the point when it became bloody.
The silent power of Emilio broke my heart, and the power and intensity of Damien destroyed me and fascinated me. Their conflict was like two tempests coming together and each chapter left me feeling out of breath. It is not a smooth read; it is violent, emotional and full of the moments that make you sore--but that is what makes it so effective.
The writing of Quinn Storm is taut and unashamedly beautiful. Each line is made thoughtful, each emotion carefully gained. It is not an ordinary dark romance, it is a tale of giving up, surviving and what it is like to really be seen, even when it is painful. I eased the final page wholly damaged but also astonished. Until You Break is one of those types of books that one cannot get rid of even after reading.
“You move like you’ve been mine for years,” Damiano murmured. His lips ghosted my ear, hot and cruel. “Tell me, piccolo, is this where you wanted to end up? Bent around my hand in front of them all?” I gasped, nails digging into his shoulder. “Why are you doing this?” “Because they need to see what happens when a Valenti is made honest.” “I didn’t choose this marriage,” I spat. His smirk cut clean. “Your body’s making vows your mouth can’t keep.”
I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Emilio and Damiano. I LOVED the intense chemistry between them! Wow! If the story was nothing but moments like that, I would still be perfectly happy. I really liked the dynamic between them and the way their relationship developed. The control and submission. Possession and obsession. Power and calculation. This story was a fast-paced enemies-to-lovers, captor/captive, marriage of convenience romance. The story had suspense, danger, and action. I was completely hooked.
“From now on, every mark is ours. Every cut is to bind us. You and me, ruled by the same blade.”
A fantastic debut novel by this author. I'm eager for more! 5 stars
Usually with dark crim/mafia romances, it's either a hit or miss.
Sadly, this time it was a miss. The authors' writing style is what set me off for the most part. It just feels like a really bad poem. Don't misunderstand, I enjoy a poem or two every now and again, but the author just made every sentence sound like a modernization of Shakespeare (in the sense that it's difficult to interpret).
I think the over-descriptive style just takes away from the plot. The author spent more time trying to incorporate weird metaphors than focusing on the plot. And I think because of this, the entire story just felt rushed.
Conversations between characters were also hard to decipher; it just didn't feel like an actual conversation.
There's no real character development, it's just wham bam and then the ending.
While I am biased towards slowburn novels, I do still feel like Damiano and Emily could have had more of a buildup to their relationship (more angst, more courting).
All in all, I wouldn't say this book was a waste of time, but I do wish that reading it didn't feel like I was in highschool, reading a classic literature piece.
Thank you to BookSirens and Quinn Storm for an advanced copy for free. All thoughts and opinions are my own. 🖤
Until You Break was like eating a really good cupcake that someone dropped on the floor for half a second. Delicious… but something felt a little off.
The angst? Great.
The tension? Chef's kiss
Emotional messiness? Peak entertainment.
Spice? Of course.
Pacing wobbled a bit for me in some moments, the drama felt a little too extra in others and some emotional beats didn't always land as strongly as they should have. The characters were making choices that had me going, "Bestie… be so serious." I still enjoyed it, I wasn't screaming into my pillow over it, but more of a "Yeah, that was good." *nods* The way chemistry built between Emilio and Damien was satisfying and several lines of Storm's writing really spoke to me. I can see the vision and the potential in a story like this by an author who is clearly skilled enough to bring it to life.
Until You Break is a dark, hypnotic descent into obsession, power, and surrender. Emilio Valenti, an artist trapped in a forced marriage, finds himself unraveling under the cold, relentless gaze of Damien Bellandi. What begins as captivity becomes a twisted dance of dominance and desire, where survival demands surrender—and breaking might be the only way to feel whole—gripping, intense, and beautifully brutal. The writing is sharp, evocative, and unflinching. The emotional stakes are high, the power dynamics intense, and the romance? It’s not tender—it’s scorching, raw, and laced with pain. If you’re drawn to mafia romances that explore the darker edges of love and loyalty, Until You Break delivers a gripping, unforgettable experience. Just be prepared: once you step into Damien and Emilio’s world, you won’t come out unscathed.
I don't want anyone to think my 3 stars means a negative review. I thoroughly did enjoy this. I loved the authors writing style, it was beautiful and poetic. Heavily descriptive, which I personally enjoy in the right settings. Here, I found it enhanced the vibe of the book, giving it a highly romanticized flavour.
I enjoyed the dynamic between the MMCs . Its well done, you can feel the push and pull, the power difference, the weight of the heavy emotions that weave throughout.
I enjoyed the plot and concept. However, I feel like there is much left unfinished. That being said, it is part of a greater world so maybe I'm just missing the mark on what I had expected.
Bottom line, solid read for a MM dark romance lover who enjoys a highly descriptive story filled with poetic flair.
Until You Break by Quinn Storm is a HIGH HEAT dark MM mafia romance that does not hold back. It’s got everything—marriage of convenience, enemies to lovers, obsession, and one very possessive antihero.
Emilio gets kidnapped by Damiano for revenge, since Damiano’s family believes Emilio’s father killed his mother. From there, it’s all psychological games, tension, and off-the-charts chemistry. The story dives deep into obsession and power, and it’ll keep you hooked the whole way through.
That ending definitely felt like a setup for another book—and I’m so ready for it.

Emilio Valenti was the main reason I kept reading this, I loved how even scared he tried to hold his own. That no matter what was going on he still fought for the most part. He was layered and I liked seeing him go through the motions.
Damiano Bellandi however, drove me nuts. We get it you 'own' him. He mentioned this way too much. It was a pretty repetitive book the whole way through to be honest.
Still it was a book I just couldn't put down.
I was given a copy of this book from booksirens for an honest review.
I love captor/captive, mafia, Stockholm books so this was right up my alley however I had a hard time reading this book. The writing style was odd and confusing, I had to keep going back and re reading sentences because they didn't make sense. The conversations weren't natural sounding either, almost like reading AI convos (that is not an accusation just a description ) There were times in the book where I couldn't tell if something was wrong because of the weird writing or an actual grammatical error. .
Emilio and Damiano come from rival crime families. Emilio is taken by Damiano's family. The story goes into detail about how Emilio goes from prisoner to Damiano's husband. Until You Break is a gripping story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Quinn Storms writing is captivating. Her word structure in sentences is so detailed, it's almost poetic. The way she explains objects and events are so thorough and colorful. Great reading!

The concept of this book was great. The execution not so much. There was a distinct lack of development in their feelings for one another. I didn't like it. And the writing was weird. And things were wrong in places. Lines and paragraphs repeated. Wrong name on the title of a chapter. Switching POV in the middle of a chapter. It got annoying trying to read it after a while. Almost dnf.
This author's writing stiyle is very different , almost like prose . I wanted to hate Damiano and at some points I did . Especially in the beginning. His level of control was a bit much but then Emilio softened to him and so did I as the story unfolded .
I look forward to reading more from Quinn.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The book was the authors FIRST and it shows, but i liked this mafia enemys to lovers . There is kidnapping, forced marriage, domominance and submision. The thing that i found odd îs that they never once say, Ilove you. Based in that i think there will be more in the series
it was pretty good. Wasn't a fan of the beginning felt like they treated Emilo horrible. Domanio finally redeemed himself at the end. Some of what he did was horrible. Mafia book with out all the fighting more like a turf war. a Also hope there is another book a lot of unanswered questions.
I do love a kidnapping/mafia/forced romance book! Started off unconventional as all good stories do but you can sense that Damiano just wants someone to love and adore. Emilio seemingly just wants to be loved and adored! Beautifully written ☺️
