When Brooke Avery became lawyer to one of the most notorious criminals in the city, she knew how dangerous he was. She knew all about his charm, his brutality, his infamous reputation with women.
What she didn’t know is how much her obsession would end up costing her, or how their strange, violent relationship would ignite the entire city…

“You are very beautiful, Brooke,” he said, his voice low, and Brooke felt herself blushing beneath the weight of his stare. She pulled her skirt down and then unfolded her legs completely while he watched her with a bemused expression on his face.
“Tell me, does your firm often send you out to the wolves like this? All alone?”
“Sometimes. Usually on the initial interview.”
Ronan tilted his head and looked at her, the shadows from the overhead lights making his eyes seem enormous and frightening.
“It seems strange, for a woman. Almost masochistic. Do you like dangerous men? Do you like them looking at you, at your body? Wondering what they might do, what they might be capable of, if you turned your back on them for just. One. Instant?”

Welcome to Wonderland...

Not really sure what to write here. A lot of writers will tell you that they've been writing their whole lives, and I'm no different. But what that won't tell you is that they don't just want to write- they have to. It's like a compulsion. Essentially, you spend a huge chunk of your life trying to bring to life people who only exist in your mind. So, in that sense, the only thing that really separates writers from other crazy people is some kind of keyboard.

I live in Michigan with my husband, who is my love and my soul mate, and the two feral alley cats we took in as kittens. We kind of think of them as the Duke boys, and our house operates as their own, personal Hazzard county.

One of the quotes I've always liked is: "Only trust someone who can see these three things in you: The sorrow behind your smile, the love behind your anger and the reason behind your silence." I try to integrate that idea into my stories as much as I can. But my favorite quote is attributed to 13th century Persian philosopher Rumi- "What you seek is seeking you." I love the idea that whatever you long for in life is out there somewhere longing for you.

Finally, for those who read my work and find it a little too dark or violent or twisted, I can only tell you something that was once told to me. That there's a dark lake inside of every one of us. And if you don't go and visit it once in a while, whatever's down there will come up to find you. I write to visit the lake...

Genre: Romantic Suspense
Setting: Detroit, Michigan
POV: Third person, multiple POVs.
Erotica element: 5/5
Characterization: 4/5
Action: 5/5
Triggers: Bloody hell yesss! You've been warned!

One word to describe this book?! Wicked! Okay--well, maybe two words: wonderfully wicked!! Ronan White set the bar high for the epitome of a villainous, very memorable, fascinating, and deviant lead character in this story! What a raw, twisted, gritty, and enjoyable book this was!

 photo IMG_4265_zpsayrxhmzz.jpg

White Rabbit depicts the journey of Brooke Avery, an ex-soldier turned lawyer, whose tasked with approaching an incarcerated Ronan White to represent him as legal counsel. Ronan is king of his criminal syndicate and their first meeting instantly sets the tone for this dark, sizzling, and suspenseful book. These two characters leave a path of destruction all throughout Detroit before this story comes to a fiery close!

First time reading this author's debut work and this book far exceeded my expectations! The complexity behind what made the two main characters unique quickly unraveled throughout the text, which made the chemistry between them feel lightening sharp and hot! Brooke and Ronan were drawn to each other's darkness like magnets and they managed to lead a direct line of chaos towards everyone they interacted with! Ronan was cruel and sadistic at times, forcing his wickedness on to everyone surrounding him, including Brooke. His volatile and unhinged nature was a fascinating thrill to read about, though!

Were the characters likable? That's up for debate, but I loved them--flaws and all, as well as the level of depth the author carved them out of! By the end of the book, it became very clear that Brooke's more submissive actions were of her own choice. She wasn't robotic or one-dimensional, and a character like Ronan would've left her for dead if she was even remotely weak-willed, fragile, and half-hearted to begin with.

 photo IMG_4262_zpsnavdb3sp.jpg

The erotica component in this book was strong, graphic, and well-written, but it didn't overshadow the rest of the story. It enhanced the book overall and helped to balance out the drama and the action sequences.

 photo IMG_4263_zpszd1glhir.jpg

This story also packed in multiple POVs, each one contributing small pieces to the larger, fragmented puzzle that remained unglued until the very end. Yes, there were hints building along the way as to who or whom might meet an untimely death, but the dark humor laced all throughout this story was finely timed and the interesting cast of characters made this story a very rich, entertaining read!

◈ Favorite lines in Ronan's twisted mind?
He had chained girls up before of course, usually to terrorize them. As he looked at Brooke, though, Ronan realized that the urge to terrorize her was the least of this desire. What he really wanted, what he needed so badly that just thinking about it was enough to set his teeth on edge, was to lock her up.

◈ Favorite lines spoken by Brooke?
“True love enters here. And stays with you your entire life.”

◈ Favorite lines spoken by Liam?
“I would’ve married you, you ungrateful bitch,” Liam said, his voice almost sad, and then Brooke screamed as he dug the tip of his blade into her back.

◈ Favorite lines in Donnie's thoughts?
Oh my God, Donnie thought, his nerve almost failing completely. Oh my God, he cut out his eyes.

I would recommended this book to: readers who love dark romance, slightly maniacal lead male characters, and heroines who can handle a crossbow.

Issues?
The editing issues in this book are highly noticeable and may be a big distraction for some readers. The way in which the story was deliciously crafted and kept me engaged canceled out most of the editing issues in my eyes. Based on the other reviews noted on GRs, I expected those issues and was prepared for it while reading the text. There were also some repetitive phrases that were noticeable and a bit distracting for me towards the end of the book, but they didn't overshadow my reading experience. Was this story perfect? No. There were some loose ends that I would've liked clarified as they were heavily related to the plot, but I loved these characters, the way in which the story was told, and all of the action in between that made this story a wonderful treat to be devoured!

Thoroughly enjoyed!

Okay, I'll confess; I have a very hard time rating this book. Every rating I come up with seems too much or too little. I am seriously hesitant because...Okay, let me start with what I expected from the book.
I expected darkness, twists & turns, insanity and passion. I got all of those. It had a bit from everything. Lust, enough craziness to make me go 'whoa' and two protagonists that had me questioning everything. So my expectations where somewhat met.
What I LIKED about this book; Hmm...I enjoyed the main hero. In what sense? Well, let me tell you that Ronan White drove me insane with his witty lines, his dark appettites and dizzying insanity! He was...guh! He terrified me and excited me at the same time. I want to confess another thing, while I was reading this book every time Ronan spoke one of his lines I was extremely reminded of Ledger's Joker. Don't laugh but that is who I could picture and that is not a bad thing in my book. No, sir.
Now our story...Brooke Avery is a lawyer but she had served for a time in Iraq. The war left its marks on her and so, when her firm asks her to be Ronan White's lawyer she is not shy to jump into the opportunity. Ronan White is a notorious criminal with singular tastes. He is scarred and that has taken its toll on his relationships with women. The catch? Each one has turned up dead.
When he meets Brooke in prison, he is drawn to her.

“So gentle ,” Ronan said, and Brooke held her breath at the sound of his voice, at once sidling and dangerous, silk draped and dragged across a gravelly drive.

He cannot explain it but he wants her and for the first time in his life he realizes that a woman wants him as well despite his looks. After their first conversation, he is able to tell that the beautiful lawyer has issues; serious issues. I won't go into detail but the rest of the story is a catch and hunt game between the characters and the developing affair between our criminal and his lawyer.
Both characters are twisted, both have been through a lot and their relationship is based on sex. Their affair is warped and perverted, but they cannot stay away from each other. Brooke will go to extreme measures to save Ronan and he will do everything to possess her and make her submit to his wicked desires. The thing is that Brooke has her own wicked desires to fight as well and they just happen to fulfil Ronan's expectations.

“Tell me, does your firm often send you out to the wolves like this? All alone?”
“Sometimes. Usually on the initial interview.”
Ronan tilted his head and looked at her, the shadows from the overhead lights making his eyes seem enormous and frightening.
“It seems strange, for a woman . Almost masochistic. Do you like dangerous men? Do you like them looking at you, at your body? Wondering what they might do, what they might be capable of, if you turned your back on them for just. One. Instant?”

The story had a lot of subplots & POVs and that's where it lost me a little. That is what I didn't like. It switched points of view and scenes so abruptly and with no warning that I had a difficult time following the quick changes. I think a better editing could help with that. I highly recommend a little polishing so readers can read it without getting too confused.
Other than that, I enjoyed the dark atmosphere and settings. This is not a book for the faint-hearted. It is dark and makes no excuses. It is not romantic, it is not a fairytale. If you decide to go in, be prepared.
If you love dark reads then I recommend it because it is nothing like anything I've read before. I cannot push it into a category. It's one of a kind. What I do wonder, is if the author will decide to continue Ronan & Brooke's story...I will be there to read it if she decides to.

3.75 to 4 Stars from me.

WOW That was a great book !!!
The story and concept were very strong. The characters were very well built-up. Quite close to real life and had a strong image. The story was a page-turner, hooked me completely, right from first page till the end in the need to know what happens next. I loved this book pretty much. It was a 5 Star read for me apart from some errors.

The characters were so strongly sketched to life that you can feel the psychopath Ronan is..! You can feel the anger, the terror, the irritation. The situations were so very well plotted that you can feel how helpless Brooke felt, what she's been through, how she's surviving. You must read it to find out how's the world of Ronan and Brooke. A beautifully-dark story it was.. Yes! Does they go together? Beautiful and Dark?? It does... In this book. It has that unique combination of story :)

This author truly has some great skills and a strong hand. Well i say this about the authors who have the potential to write some remarkable books.

It could have been a perfect 5 star but there were a few editing mistakes. the scenes switched without any divider while story jumped from one character to another character or past/present flashbacks without specifying, that was a bit confusing but there was nothing that can't be corrected with a good editor :)
And when Ronan escapes from jail twice, the author should have defined a bit How it happened.

Apart from that, it was a great book and i loved it pretty much.
It is definitely recommended to all the readers who like Dark Erotic Read.

Rewriting because my review got lost somehow...
I LOVED this book...
This author has some serious skill in capturing the essence of crazy. You can literally 'feel' how psycho Ronan is and empathize with how broken and emotionally damaged Brooke is. Her need for him, despite the abuse, is tangible and the story is a fast paced, wild ride filled with drugs, rape, murder, and betrayal. I loved it, loved it, loved it.
That being said, it really needs an editor. This would've been a solid five star read for me if the problems were fixed and I'm not just being picky about commas and grammar. There were times when the story jumped from one character to the next with no warning... so confusing. If not a new chapter, a simple line of asterisks would suffice to help the reader out. There were also some plot holes that need fixed--how did Ronan break from jail the first time? We don't know and that's kind of a big deal. Character names were mixed up a couple of times as well--again, confusing but nothing that can't be fixed with a good editor.
Bottom line--the plot is great, the author has talent, and, with a little help, this could be an amazing book.

This is probably one of my favorite dark romances of all time. The characters, the dialogue, the plot, it's all perfect. I wasn't even bothered by the repeat phrases the author kept using (dark and electric eyes, hair a dark wing, his eyes were twirling, he wore a mask of polite disinterest) because everything else was so awesome.

But I'm not touching the third book in the series. Apparently, the hero gets with someone else, and that book focuses on her, instead of Brooke, which completely ruins the first book in the series. Brooke might come back later, but there's no release date for the fourth book, and the third book came out two years ago.

This author is brilliant, which is why I'm still giving this book five stars, but I feel kind of betrayed by the way the series went. Maybe I should give the third book a chance regardless, but I couldn't bear to see it dismantle the beautiful love story between Ronan and Brooke that J.D. Sloane created in White Rabbit.

There's no better way to piss off a romance reader than to get them emotionally invested in a romance, only to replace the love interest with someone new in the next book. That's one of the reasons I stopped reading Sarah J. Maas books, since she has a habit of doing that. (the other reason is that her books are long but don't have enough substance to warrant the length).

I still recommend this book, though. Even if it's just read as a standalone, it's still very good.

HOLY COW BATMAN

What did I read?

White Rabbit, is what!

I can’t even, I spent the whole day reading this little beauty. I legit couldn’t put it down. I think at times I was annoying my bestie with all my rambling. When I read and know someone has read it also, I find it easier for myself to read and stop chat read stop chat… because BOOK LOVERS prepare your mind to get jacked UP!

Now you all know I do not read books likes this often, it is very rare that I will dive into some twisted dark romance like this.

I honestly didn’t think I was going to like it as much as I did. But holy sh*t did I ever!
I am in aweee with the M*ther F*cker l Ronan, he is so scary and so very unpredictable.

I love him in a sick twisted way, I thought wow I dig you, Mr Scary!

And then we have Brooke, and gurlll I love her so. She is so like crazy too but I just adore her. She is one bad ass, so strong from what she has overcome.

I hated Donnie, I wanted to see him get what was coming to him! He was a total shady MF, I was like the whole time shuddering from his creepiness. And I despised Liam!

Ronan and Brooke are perfect for each other, all the nutting and bjs and that damn belt #fansherself
Damn book lovers, if you are looking for something twisted dark hella hot romance this is the story for you.

I couldn’t believe how addicted I was until I finished at 2am and went searching for book 2.

I really liked the story, at times I was confused who was telling me the story and I had to stop and see what I just read, but eventually I figured it all out. I think the story was well paced and Brooke is a damn champ at giving BJs #justsaying

What happens when a lost ex-military chick meets a murderous sexy scary psycho?
A lot of Passionate Raw Sex, though it was like Rough and dirty like I want to punch you in the face and then nut all over you!

Like I said I really loved the story, Brooke was hired to be Ronan’s lawyer and then shit hit the fan and we have this epic roller-coaster ride of all them feely feels.

From the beginning to the end I was hooked, each page kept me on the edge of my seat… possibly keep the fan on, or make sure you have access to something that will cool you down… No, seriously I mean it. You may think I am crazy, hey I know I am a little, but the couple’s chemistry ignites from the pages.

You sit there and want more, you want to know what’s going to happen next.
Both Ronan and Brooke are jaded both are broken and both are emotionally challenged. but. Together…works. It works so well.

Praise to the author, who it would have taken guts to produce something so gritty and dark and stick to her guns and publish a really good story. It could possibly my new favourite dark romance story.

I brought this because. well. I was told nicely that I had to read this, and book lovers make no mistake I am freaking floveing it. I am looking forward to reading the second one.

I found thought there were some small editing problems, so small. But I can totally look passed that and give this book a 4-star story and a 1 star for that cover!

I am loving that cover, I can’t wait to get in on my book shelf. I would say for everyone to go in with an open mind and give this story a try. Yes, yes there are triggers and cautions but Christ on a cracker its totally worth it all.

WOAH!

Ok, so I will start with the warnings about this book.
There is some serious dark, twisted and beautiful ugliness between these pages.
It is raw, graphic, and unapologetically brutal in its delivery.
There is rape, torture, violence, murder, dubious consent, and some history of incest and that's just the tip of this book. This is not for everyone and defiantly not for the fainthearted.

Before I start my review, I will address the editing.
I don't want to drag on about the editing and take away from the brilliance of the story. So, yes, there are editing issues that could have been fixed, but over all the story is such an epic read, I got over it pretty fast. And now, let's move on.

What happens when a damaged ex-military MP meets a murderous psychopath?

A Love Story like no other.

Ronan and Brooke have both suffered traumatically in their childhoods which has shaped the beautifully flawed adults they grew into. They each have their own darkness and vulnerabilities, their disturbing and twisted needs and desires. And just like a moth drawn to the flame, these two are drawn to each other.

Brooke isn't your typical damsel in distress, and thank #fuck for that. She is real and for that, I Flove her! She is one tough and in-charge kind of woman with the will to survive. After being raped and abused at such a young age, some would say she's a little messed up for allowing herself to be put back in the situation all over again in her adult life. Personally, I think she is perfectly fine. She has her own darkness, which could have been influenced by her past, but nevertheless, she craves the roughness, violence, corruption, and twisted bliss that only a man like Ronan can provide. And not just in the bedroom.

Ronan . . . . *sigh, crazy, wild, dysfunctional* He is like no other man you will ever meet.

Criminal mastermind, murderer, rapist, and drug dealer are just a few of his "traits." He is a psychotic, calculating, ruthless, sadistic man who lacks all moral or ethical conscience for his actions. You can feel the darkness, the madness seeping from every single page. It's intoxicating.
Yet when it comes to Brooke, there is this almost gentleness, as gentle as Ronan can be that is, loyalty and love.

The love between Ronan and Brooke is a force to be reckoned with. It's unconditional, irrational, and comes close to insanity, but honestly, what true love isn't like that?
True love knows no shades, it doesn't discriminate on how dark and twisted your soul is, or how crazy and "wrong" you are. Love just simply is Love.

I don't want to give too much of this story away, so I'm going to wrap it up here by saying this book is full-on, in every single way. It is fast-paced and doesn't shy away from the graphic details.
I know this is short and to the point, but seriously, Ronan has kicked my butt for two days on this review. I have rewritten 4 times and spent more time playing with teasers (see the blog) and to be honest guys, I just want to go back and finish my re-read of them, I'm not ready to let them go just yet.

If you love your reads on the darker side with a big chunk of crazy and some sprinkles of danger then you really need to grab this book. I can not recommend it enough, poor Jen has got herself a shameless fangirl on her hands ;)

But please do take the warnings seriously, I would hate this book to get some negativity because someone didn't listen to how disturbing this book actually gets.

Book 1 in the series

Wow this is a dark read. Very well written (although there are a few wrong word mistakes or missing words).
What Brooke needs to survive in a world of murders and drug lords and what she grew up with is incredible. When she meets Ronan for the first time, her future is formed in an instant.
Ronan is the Boogyman. Everyone is afraid of him. What he does to women and people who displease him is cruel and inhuman. But he seems to have something that Brooke needs.
This does not have a cliffhanger but there is a second book. That there is more that can happen is obvious, but I don't know if that is what the second book is about.
I have a few triggers (that I have only recently found out affect how I read books with them in it).
This book has 2 of mine, but I still enjoyed reading it.

4.5 Curiouser and Curiouser Stars

OMGosh, that was some seriously messed up shit and I loved it!!!

White Rabbit had the deviant monster that resides in the deep, dark recesses of my mind clapping its hands and shrieking in utter delight. The phrase "We're all mad here" doesn't even come close to the insanity of this particular rabbit hole.

Brooke Avery and Ronan White both suffered traumatic childhoods producing dysfunctional and disturbed adults. I found myself wondering which of the two was the more damaged character in the story.

Brooke was a former military MP turned attorney. Intelligent, strong, independent and beautiful. Yet she tended to make very poor decisions and would have submissive relationships with dangerous, unstable men who used and abused her both emotionally and physically. Brooke was always ready and willing to please in hopes of being accepted and loved regardless of how horrible she was degraded and treated. In short, she was a masochist. I will say that when left alone and given the opportunity, Brooke was as badass as they come.

How to describe Ronan … charming, witty, charismatic, dangerous, drug dealer, drug addict, irrational, unpredictable, murderer, sadomasochist. Ronan showed no signs of having an ounce of humanity. He often randomly shot and killed his own crew as a stress reliever. He is one of the most sickly disturbing and frightening characters that I have ever read.

The story actually had the feel of 50s gangsters meets Suicide Squad with all of the crime, corrupted politicians, and violence. I couldn't help but compare Ronan and Brooke to the Joker and Harley Quinn. Both are bat-shit crazy and are explosive when they are together. Ronan's physical description reminded me of Heath Ledger's Joker … tall, lanky but well-built body. Dirty blond hair that came down to his collar. The left side of his face was disfigured with one of the scars making him appear to be smiling all of the time.

As for the sex, well, I wouldn't call it sex or fucking and definitely not making love. It was raw, primal, violent. Beautiful but in the ugliest of ways like a lust-filled rage overtaking them and ending in a brutal and tormented climax.

While I loved this book it did a have few flaws …

Editing issues! Normally I'm not bothered with typos but this was more than just misspelling a word. Author should really re-edit.
Author seemed to have favorite phrases that she over-used throughout the book.
The "deal" Ronan while being interrogated in exchange for information was just a little far-fetched.
Ronan breaking out of jail not once but twice and Brooke leaving/quitting her job were not explained.
The sex scenes were pages long, often repetitive and became tiresome later on in the book.
I wish there had been more of a mystery/suspense to the plot … maybe a twist or some big revelation but the story was somewhat predictable in a Dark Knight kind of way.

White Rabbit is the first in the series (the second book Lovely Alice is currently available) so that means the story in continued but instead of leaving you hanging, the story arc has an ending.

Lastly, like other reviewers I must caution anyone interested in reading this book to heed the warnings. This is truly a dark read. It's not a love story, there's no romance. It is violent and brutal in and out of the bedroom. Some of the subject matter circles around dubious sex, rape, incest, "mommy and daddy" influenced sexual situations and some really fucked up background stories. This book is not for the faint of heart!

DNF 30%

***Slight spoilers for the first 30% ahead***

The language was awful -- and I'm not even native to English.
So. Many. Full. Stops.
So many- many- why-?
Mrs. Sloane, there're commas missing behind names in many a sentence.
A grey nightgown changed into ivory within one setting for some colourblind reason?
There was such an omnipresent obsession with eyes and faces. I know; show, don't tell. But there was so much showing using the (twirling black)/(wide green) eyes, it came out as pure tells.
So many cigarettes were always being smoked. So. Many. Cigarettes.

And the worst:
The jumps between scenes were very nonsensical -- it was almost impossible to follow what is happening. Seriously. Absolutely no logical flow to what's going on in the story.
One moment we're in a hot, airless holding cell. Paragraph later there's the same criminal in heroine's luxurious living room talking about a drop, bleeding for some undisclosed reason. Jump two more paragraphs, we find ourselves at a high end event with rich people and the heroine; and the criminal surveying the rooms from the streets. Few paragraphs later, the criminal is suddenly lounging in an interrogation room. Wasn't the dude just running around free, putting knives into people's vaginas?? Why is he at a precinct all of a sudden?! What happened? How did he get there? Did he just merrily walk away from the ballroom balcony (how did he get to the balcony??) to hug the nearest policeman? Was it a lost dare he wagered somewhere in the blanks of the pages? How did the heroine get out of the clutches of one of his henchmen and ended up standing behind a one way glass, watching Ronan lounge and demand a blowjob from her on that very precinct?!

And all the damn the time, eyes were twirling. Does Ronan have a case of googly eyes?? So goddamn distracting. If I were Brooke, I'd get him to an eye-doc asap.

If I never ever ever see twirling eyes again, or wide green eyes, or childlike face sucking someone's dick, or electric eyes, or white faces (oh, the white faces and twirling eyes) -- it will be way too soon.

---

tldr:

I tried to like this book really hard, I swear I did. I went through and above Amazon's restrictive regional policy and my country's censorship and found a shop that sells the ebook legally and without restrictions.

Should've bought some candy instead. Lesson learned.

Received an ARC for an honest review from the author

Brooke who is Ronan's lawyer seemed to be sweet and innocent.
Ronan a mad man who literally gets away with murder.

This isn't a soft romance, or even a quick read. This is dark, and very long. There is plenty of action if you can keep up.

I had gotten confused a few times. Only because I would be reading as Ronan and then all of a sudden it says Nolan. Or the other way around. Not sure if that is an editing error or what.

Brooke has a very messed up childhood and you would think that she would stay away from someone like Ronan.
I think the bad boy persona drew her more to him.

Ronan is really like a crazy, wild, stray rabbit. The way the author described him with his wild eyes, and his way of thinking is beyond crazy.

Would I recommend this book. Yeah sure if you are into the darker side of erotica. I am not only talking the sex but the way of thinking of these characters as well.

in all honesty it took me a while to read this book there was alot of stops and starts for me . In the beginning i found it boreing . i wanted the action right from the beginning . but i hung in there and trust me there was plenty of action all kinds of action .
what do you get when you pair two broken and bloody soul's ?
you get Ronan and brooke thats who . both jaded both broken both emotionally challenged . but . together there on fire for each other there hot and the challenges they faced in there past the things that they endured who made them what they are today seem to bring out the best and worse in each other its a dark read not for the faint of heart thats for sure but if you like dark reads violence guns blood etc this book is for you . its the first time ive read a book by this author and id definitely read anything she wrote again

Not a book for the faint of heart! This dark, gritty, sexy as sin messed up love story between a notorious criminal gang leader and a damaged but strong and gorgeous defence lawyer! This story will take you in chew you up and spit you out...a dangerously dark, dark storyline so many emotions in one book I loved every page of it.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5 because you need to read this

Let me just be clear up front, White Rabbit is for readers who already enjoy DARK erotic romance or who think they might want to venture into the genre. This ain’t no classic love story and while there is a “ever after” whether it’s a “happily” is strictly a subjective inquiry. One other thing, we need to be clear about, the book includes a “dubious consent” warning. The warning isn’t fully descriptive. In reality, there are scenes of flat out non-consent. If that’s a deal breaker for you, head for the nearest exit.

In White Rabbit Brooke is Ronan’s attorney. Ronan is in prison when the book begins. He’s charged with…I don’t even really know, let’s just call it being an out and out psychopath. Brooke and Ronan are immediately drawn to one another. Ronan seems to recognize the darkness in Brooke and Brooke (in all her twisted glory) seems to recognize Ronan’s ability to exploit her darkness. The book progresses through Ronan being in and out of jail (because he escapes prison with the same ease most people use to floss their teeth) while carrying out some huge drug deal. There is plenty of external conflict in the story line, the cops are after Ronan and eventually Brooke, there is a rat in Ronan’s organization and every male in the book seems bent on raping Brooke (seriously). There is not one redeeming quality about Ronan and Brooke is that friend who you just want to shake. And scene.

The SUPER positive thing about this book and the reason I HIGHLY recommend it is the writing. It’s obvious that the author could benefit from the services of a good editor but the writing was good enough to keep me enthralled from the beginning to the end even without the best organization at times. The author is writing about the relationship between two seriously twisted characters but does it in a way that the story is compelling. You keep turning the pages just because you want to know if Ronan is as evil as he seems and if Brooke is as much of a hot mess as she seems. Spoiler- yes and yes.

The book is written in the third person but the narrator switches POV between characters so you get the inside track on Brooke, Ronan and several other supporting characters. The story takes place in Detroit. I’m very familiar with that location and the politics there so I was personally fascinated by the author’s take on the inner workings of Detroit (although if you’re not familiar with some things before reading this book, it might be confusing). Last good thing, I love action sequences in books and there were some great ones in this book. By the end of the book, you will find yourself on the proverbial edge of your seat.

This is a fast paced book which is a good thing in most ways. There are some times when things move a little too quickly and you may find yourself two steps behind the plot. For example, the first time Ronan escaped from prison, the author forgot to tell us he escaped. So when I went from one scene in which he is locked up to the next one and found out he was out, I was totally confused. We do eventually find out he escaped but that’s a major detail to delay giving us. There are several other examples of the plot sort of jerking forward without much explanation as to how we got from point A to point B. There is also an issue from Brooke’s past concerning her brother that I STILL don’t completely understand. And to be clear, I don’t understand it because it was never really explained.

When I finished the book, I was like ‘wtf did I just read?’ Because it is so deliciously twisted. But my overall impression was that this is a really good book from an author who has enormous potential.

FYI, if you like any of the following books, this is a particularly good choice for you: Flawed by Francette Phal, Underestimated by Jettie Woodruff, Raw by Belle Aurora, Twist Me by Anna Zaires or Monsters in the Dark Series by Pepper Winters. This book isn’t necessarily on the same level as those yet but it’s along those same lines.

P.S.: I’m a lawyer and I know a lot of women lawyers, none are like Brooke Avery. Don’t hold it against us.

WOW!!!

I received the book in exchange for an honset review.

Ronan a person with a psychopathic personality whose behavior is antisocial, very much criminal, and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience. That pretty much sums him up to a Tee ladies and gentleman....kidding? absolutely not!!. Think along the lines of a malfunctioning robot gone wild like that baddie cop guy in terminator 2.

Then you have Brooke. At first, she comes across as the hardarse lawyer, ex-army, kickarse type of character. Put her next to said broken robot gone wild Ronan, and you have a recipe for something very saddistic and dark and just Masochistic. Proving for volatility right of the bat!!

The relationship of the two characters, takes you to dark, dark places that hmmmm for me to explain I would have to compare it to movie Girl With A Dragon Tattoo with mix with The Cell. If you have seen these movies, you will know exactly where Im going with this.

A few times I wanted to put this book down, as the story was heading in a direction I was not prepared to read about. But somehow, J.D manages to pull the story back without an abrupt direction change, or a change in the flow of the story, and without going right overboard into the very dark nasty places of our minds that you tend to not want to think about. Or do but dont seem to want to bring yourself to crossing that line. Think scary movies where you know...you just know something bad is going to happen and usually does...thats where this story goes but without the gore of horror or thriller movies......ok I lie, maybe a bit of gore to it.

Seriously not for the faint hearted people!. I loved the rawness of the story that for me really touches on everything on the wrong side of society!!

Overall, this book invokes some depravity and violence with a sadistic love story thrown in. For me it reads like a movie, a very awesome erotic thriller/psychologically brilliant read from start to finish.

Be aware there is ALOT of graphically discriptive scenes of a sexual nature, brutal/graphic violence, and/or other disturbing content!

If you enjoy reading, Ker Dukey, L.B Dunbar, or Lucian Bane, and add Thomas Harris in the mix definitely a must read for fans of these authors.

I predict BIG....HUGHE things for J.D. Sloane!!

My final stars for this read would end up at 3.5 stars.

I liked the plot, I liked the characters. Although their traits were sometimes hard to digest.

I didn't like the Daddy element, that wasn't dark, erotic or depraved, that to me was definitely more towards sickening. But for the most part the storyline got me past the bits I wasn't 100% invested in.

I think Ronan could possibly be the darkest fictional character I've ever read. I actually didn't like him from the start to the finish. But needless to say that did not stop my enjoyment of the story. I was absolutely OK to not like him, call me weird but I enjoy books where this happens.

Brooke, ah now there's a character that had idiosyncrasies, for a woman out of the army her submissive relationship sexual or otherwise tendancies were a complete juxtaposition to her previous career. I was waiting for the blow back of her being more than what she was and was suffering at the hands of these men for a different reason. I couldn't get behind allowing herself to be treated like she was by Liam or Ronan or indeed others when she had a strong ruthless backbone too.

White Rabbit is a read like no other. It has a saga feel to it, and definitely carries more than just a dark erotic read. I would strongly suggest the author takes the time to re-edit this book, highlight POV changes and change out some of the descriptive prose of what the characters are feeling, there is an awful lot of seeing something in the eyes. Also I've never read a book before where EVERY character has a POV, from the main to the sub-characters. It was certainly an interesting way to read this story indeed. Also the author needs to orchestrate the jumps in the timeline much better. The story jumps a lot in areas and it really detracts from the flow of the timeline and how the story is being told.

Without a doubt this would easily be a 4.5 star read for me if these changes happened. I would sadly not go to a 5 star because of the Daddy element. But that's just me and where I draw the line at sexual proclivities.

I am very glad J.D. sent me the book to review, it's a read I'll never forget and for any dark, erotic romance readers that err towards the extremely dark then this book will tick all the boxes. I received this book in return for an honest review. My reviews are my own and are 100% honest.

White Rabbit contains violence and leans way towards the darkest side of drugs, money and crime. There is suspense which will leave you wondering who you can trust and it's full of some twisted and disturbing scenes. It's also a dark romance with two psycho main characters who are absolutely perfect for each other since they are both seriously messed up!

Brooke becomes the lawyer for Ronan who is one of the worst and most wanted criminals in the city. She's immediately attracted to him and no matter how scary, dark or scarred he is, Brooke can't seem to stay away. She's obsessed with trying to be the one to help him. Ronan feels the same strong attraction towards Brooke. Although he's unsure how to act since he isn't used to wanting a woman for anything more than one purpose. However the more he sees Brooke, the more he realizes he does want her and the more jealous and possessive he becomes. And I'll just say, a jealous and ticked off Ronan is one brutal SOB.

Wow! These people are crazy!! Ronan would rather kill someone than have to deal with the stupidity they often show him. He's cruel and blood thirsty and is always just one small step away from being caught. Brooke is as dysfunctional and twisted as Ronan. Plus she's just as deadly.

White Rabbit ends in one of those "happy for now" kinda situations, and I was honestly a little miffed thinking that was it. I still had a number of questions I felt needed to be answered and I was wondering if maybe my Kindle version was missing pages. But nope, I discovered there's a second book entitled Lovely Alice, which is available now and picks up with our whacked couple in Canada. You know Conner is coming and I'm anxious to see what happens between our two deranged lovebirds.

My only real complaint is that there were a good bit of errors including typos, missing words, wrong names and extra words. It was distracting and could use a good editing.

When Monsters in the Dark series’ Q Mercer meets Retribution’s Braxton Alexander…

White Rabbit is one of the darkest and most unpredictable erotic romance thriller that will leave you guessing and holding your breath through the pages!

(Or you could just go crazy trying to figure out Brooke and Ronan!)

That was what happened to me. Literally.

White Rabbit is so unpredictable, not just because of the story plot itself, but the main twists were in the characters!

CHARACTER TWISTS ARE EVERYWHERE!

Usually, in a dark erotica novel, the hot guys are usually twisted and sexy but let me just say that, Ronan White takes this whole twisted-and-sexy thing to a whole new level! He is almost a complete sociopath BUT HE IS AN EXTREMELY HOT ONE!

(Not mention sexy!)

Brooke is almost as twisted as Ronan, her background probably played a key factor in influencing her, but she is definitely one of the most original character I have ever read about!

(Which is probably why Brooke and Ronan make such a twisted yet wicked pair!)

Honestly, both of them are broken on so many levels, which might just be the reason why only the two of them can understand and give each other what they want, what they need.

(Can I just say there are so many things in White Rabbit that are dark, wrong, twisted and all kinds of dark thoughts but I actually love it?!)

I have read many dark romance or eroticas but White Rabbit introduce a whole new sexy twist to the genre!

Highly recommended for readers who love dark and twisted romance thrillers with suspense!

Ronan and Brookes are dynamite together in this book. I will clasify this book as a crime/dark read. Ronan is an underground drug dealer. That comes with a lot of deals gone right or bad, betrayals, corrupt police boss/ DAs. Violence, a lot of violence, and where we have drugs there will be a lot of sex. Ronan is crazy as they come, and he takes no chances. He is into call girls and w***es. Brooke was supposed to be a lawyer who showed up one day while he was in jail to bail him out.

Their relationship became twisted, crazy, violent and dirty. This book is not for the faint of heart. Their sex was so violent it bothers on suicidal wish on the part of the heroine. It was also humiliating for her as far as am concerned. There is rape, incest, and whole lot more that was not really explained.

I did enjoy the suspense of the cut throat drug deals and how the back stabbing of Ronan's second in command came into play. If some of the violent/murderous sex scenes are cleaned out, it will be a more enjoyable book. The violent killings was too much for me too. Some people might like that though, but I don't.

In conclusion, give this book a chance and you might fall in love with Ronan, afterall Brooke did, and he promised her fidelity and forever.

J. D. Sloane has great potential as a writer with White Rabbit. With an editor this could have been a 5★ read; however, the grammatical errors (then=than *a lot*, passed=past) and character slips (Nolan is talking, then it says Ronan moves to do something, and switches back to Nolan talking again-when it is actually Nolan the entire time) detract from the story. The overuse of key phrases and sentence stops are a bit of a distraction as well, but a good editor could have fixed these issues.
The story itself was white hot! Ronan and Brooke are a hot mess of violence and sex and they are just plain disturbed. This story is not for the faint of heart. It is dark, brutal, violent, and there may be triggers for some. While there are some holes in the plot, like how Ronan got out of jail the first time, when/how did Brooke quit/leave her job, and what the the hell did Nolan mean by saying he should have just added Brooke to the team?, these are not things you "just have to know" to understand the story or the characters. The ending, however, left me very unsatisfied and actually wanting a part 2, because now I am left not knowing who is more vulnerable in the end and who is being played.
I would recommend this this book to anyone that likes a dark read and I would definitely read this author again. Great debut novel.

This is a dark read so beware. I love dark books and this was just different not bad just different. This is dark, brutal and has a lot of trigger areas of abuse and rape. Brooke was an abused physically, emotionally and raped as a child. As an adult she went looking for relationships that displayed the same abuse.

Ronan’s organization runs a huge portion of Detroit. He controls money and drugs. Brooke is the lawyer coming in to defend him. She knows how dark he is he can sense the dark in her.

This story is told in Brooke and Ronan POV plus some other characters in the book. While dark romances or erotica are my favorite I was on the fence with this one. It seemed like everything was about rape with Ronan whether it was with Brooke or anyone else. Ronan was definitely a psychopath and I think to an extent so was Brooke for being ok dealing with all the abuse from him or others. The author definitely doesn’t leave you hanging. She goes into great detail. I do find Brooke when alone and in charge very dominate and can kick some butt. But then find it sad that she lets men abuse her so bad.

So if you’re looking for a new dark read check it out.

First, let me start by saying that this story could be completely addicting. I have to give this author credit for her creativity. The protagonist reminded me a lot of the characters in "Suicide Squad", the joker and Harley Quinn. They were certifiably crazy. Ronan, handsome but horribly scarred along his face and Brooke, a beauty but a brunette. I was so excited for this dark disturbing ride.

What didn't work for me?
I'm gonna come in hard here, only because I feel this author has huge potential with her imagination, creativity and ability to deliver an awesome storyline. This book had the making to be a five star read if not for some serious editing issues and the transitioning from scene to scene and character to character POV's that at times left me confused.

Also, something that REALLY annoyed me? The authors obsession with eyes and words. It was repetitive and started to drive me crazy to the point of being distracting. I.E.;
Her white face or his white face
Her face soft and urgent
His eyes dark and electric or bright and electric
His dark eyes swirling or twirling, "not sure what that means", it just got to be too much.

My hope is that the following book has been properly edited and the author expands her descriptive vocabulary.

Fabulous debut read from this new author on the block.

4.5stars.

Ok so I'm not to sure how to write this review.
I signed up for a review copy without knowing of the author or anything about the work I was going to read. The author didn't even have a fb when I signed up. And what a surprise I got! I am so glad I decided to take a chance on this tale.

This is a truly amazing dark read!!
I love dark books the darker the better, I have to say this book doesn't disappoint.

I don't want to go and re tell the blurb or even try to summarise the book, If you like dark reads! Then give this book a try.
You get two Amazingly strong lead characters each with there own dark tale that brings them together.
A mindf*ck of a storyline that will keep you hooked & give you the feels.
This is a dark erotica not a romance, if your looking for a typical romance maybe try another book!

Only negative I can see it it felt slightly disjointed at times, Switching between characters without any indication. This was a little confusing. With this fixed this book would be a definite five stars.

I cannot wait to see what J.D.Sloane will have for us next.

Ok....ummmm....I don't really know how I feel about this book. I've given it a three star rating at the moment, but that could change. I love dark reads and really don't have many triggers, but everyone needs to be aware that this book contains dubious consent. It is marked so at the bottom of the blurb.
The hero Ronan is basically a psychopath and the heroine Brooke has darkness inside her that is broken and twisted as well. They suit each other well. lol. The sex scenes were often violent and brutal and it felt like all anyone wanted to do was to rape Brooke. There were daddy and mommy elements that were weird but somehow fit the darkness of the story.

I usually don't care about editing, but it seemed the writing jumped from one pov to another without a break in between. There were a couple of times that things happened in the book that didn't get explained HOW it happen.

The story was...different. I appreciate how much effort the author spent to make the hero's (In my opinion) words creepy/sexy. It ended with a HFN ending, but if there is a book 2, I will read it as well. lol.

REVIEW
We have Brooke who is an ex military MP. Tough as nails but so broken inside its heart breaking. She is now becoming legal defense to the notorious Ronan White.

Ronan White is a psycho path, and beyond evil being. But he also is very broken inside.

When you bring these two people together hell would be a safer place.

This is a very dark and disturbing book. You get rape, brutalized beatings, gang activity, drugs, and you think the feds are on your side? Well think again. All the characters are well defined in this book. The author captured each one perfectly. Aside from some editing issues it was a great book. I enjoyed it although it is seriously dark and disturbing. But if you like things like ID channel you will love this suspenseful book.

Darkly Fascinating!!!!

A friend recommended this book to me as its author is becoming a rising star (pun intended) in the erotica genre. I happily purchased the book simply based off my excitement upon reading the synopsis.

I was not prepared for the tailspin I embarked on once I entered into the world of White Rabbit...

ALL warnings of mature content in this book are indeed true...yet I found it to be so amazingly, darkly fascinating I read it in one sitting!

The very first scene in the story sets up JD Sloane's twisted tale (again pun intended), where Detroit Hot-Shot Lawyer Brooke Avery meets Drug Lord Criminal Mastermind Ronan.

Both sickly dysfunctional characters, they are drawn together like moths to a flame leaving in their wake a wonderful plethora of erotic, chaotic, and definitely psychotic destruction.

By the end I really didn't know who was more damaged...Ronan...or Brooke? I loved it!

Soul mate?

Yes this book needs better editing with this I agree with the other reviewers. But that does not take away from the ability of this new author to totally submerge you into her story, a story of drugs gangs, descriptive sex, with a little good thrown in with lots of evil. Sounds like a pretty typical good vs. Evil story except the good are as damaged as the evil characters. The descriptive scenes are descriptive indeed,in fact it is very easy to visualize I felt as if I was watching a movie and wanted to hide my head under a blanket to avoid the horror scenes. That doesn't work when reading a book. The female character is Brook young, beautiful, smart, compassionate. She is also passionate and severely damaged and in love with a man who is pure evil. I could not put this book down until the last page was turned. Now I can't wait until the next book is written and Brooke can find her soul mate because I know it can not be the white rabbit. Can it?

I love a good, drastic, sadistic dark book and White Rabbit hit the brief! Brooke is an interesting girl, she's smart, intelligent and strong. She's been through so many horrible things in her life but seems completely ok but boy oh boy she's not at all. She is an expert of putting on the 'mask', everyone thinks she's ok but you know who sees through it...Ronan!
Ronan is unlike any character I've ever read before, he's damaged physically and emotionally and he is brutal and loves it and doesn't apologise for any of it. He has never meet anyone like Brooke and on some level he knows she's 'something' to him, he just needs to figure out what and how to handle it without killing her.
If you are a lover of dark reads then this is the book for you, I'm looking forward to reading Lovely Alice next!!!
