Moonpaw finally confesses to her Clanmates that her dead sister has been torturing her in her mind, and the Clan rallies around her in support. But as Moonpaw grows closer to Goldenpaw, her sister's threats become more ominous, and even turn bloody. Moonpaw worries she's a danger to her entire Clan. Would Thunderclan be better off without her?
Tawnypelt is sure that the prophecy she received from Bluestar is a dire warning--and she believes that only the Elders can see the Clans through the oncoming danger. Frustrated with his mother, Tigerstar bans her from speaking of the prophecy, so Tawnypelt takes refuge in ThunderClan. She begins to wonder if her true place is in the Clan of her birth.
Amidst all this, Starlingpaw grows bolder in his belief that he alone must save the Clans. But can an apprentice really hold the key to their salvation?
Erin Hunter is inspired by a love of cats and a fascination with the ferocity of the natural world. As well as having a great respect for nature in all its forms, Erin enjoys creating rich mythical explanations for animal behavior, shaped by her interest in astronomy and standing stones.
This book was incredible. I swear this arc keeps getting better and better. While this book was slower than the last one, I really loved how they slowed down and let the characters talk to each other, navigate their feelings and emotions, and deal with their trauma and past decisions.
Here are things that I really loved:
1. Jayfeather said that Brambleclaw was his FATHER and they didn't minimize adoption. In past books they've been saying "he's like my father" "he raised me"... no, he WAS his father and I'm so glad this book FINALLY said that loud and clear! 2. Dovewing talked to Tawnypelt about switching Clans. I know they did this before, but I'm so glad they touched on it again. Dovewing and Tawnypelt have a really interesting relationship and I'm so glad that was expanded upon! 3. Dovewing AND Tigerheartstar apologized to Tawnypelt. FINALLY. I'm glad Dove acknowledged her son switching Clans bc she was being a hypocrite! And Tiger was TERRIBLE to his mother so I'm so glad the words "I'M SORRY" actually came out of his stupid mouth! 4. Tawnypelt talked to Brambleclaw and Squirrelstar. This was the best part of the book for me. I loved Tawny's friendship with Squirrel and I always adore when they talk. Both of them dealing with their grief over Brambleclaw was actually heartbreaking and I'm glad they had each other! 5. Tree told Moonpaw it WASN'T HER FAULT and she wasn't crazy. This was SO needed and I loved how he came to help her. It was nice they could relate about seeing ghosts and it was the perfect use of Tree. 6. Tawnypelt and Crowfeather talked about their feelings. Even if I don't want them to get together this was a very honest conversation that I'm glad they finally had. I'm so glad Tawny said she didn't want to deal with this right now bc SAME sister. 7. And BRAMBLECLAW DIED?! I didn't see that coming AT ALL. Even though it was being set up I thought they'd keep him around longer to help Moonpaw. And it was really emotional omg. It was so freaking sad??? 8. Ok and the other leaders ACTUALLY listened to Tawnypelt. I love how Tawny knows what is right and sticks to it, even LEAVING Shadowclan because her fuckass son told her she couldn't talk about the prophecy?? Tigerheartstar said "if you want to do that then you can leave" and TAWNY ACTUALLY LEFT. Then the other leaders all agreed with her and called Tiger out. This was SO needed and I loved when Squirrelstar said she had her back 100%. It was so validating to see all the other leaders hate Tiger and rally around Tawnypelt. FINALLY!! 9. Squirrelstar acknowledged she wasn't perfect as a deputy and mate but the book didn't place all the blame on her. Her relationship with Bramble wasn't healthy but they were both to blame at times, and this book actually spelled out how they weren't good for each other but that they loved each other deeply. This was VERY MUCH NEEDED and I'm so glad they did it with grace and care. 10. Starlingpaw is going to be the two-face cat I'm calling it now. He's speaking out and organizing a rebellion that reminds me of Needletail and Darktail. He's so focused on finding the cat he doesn't realize it's HIM. That's going to be a crazy reveal. 11. And Moonpaw!! I thought I'd hate the romance but her and Goldenpaw were really wholesome. I was shocked when Morningkit hurt Goldenpaw and there is SO MUCH they can do with that concept now that they're together. I feel so bad for her and her friendship with Brambleclaw and Jayfeather was SO ENDEARING. The fact that she caused Tawny and Squirrel to miss out on a final goodbye to Bramble, and his sacrifice DIDN'T EVEN WORK?? Fucking heartbreaking omg 12. And omg this book was so fucking funny. When Starlingpaw stood up to Crowfeather and called him out TWICE ("you're a light in the Mist!" "SO ARE YOU!") I WAS GAGGED!! When Tree came to help Moonpaw with therapy and she said "please leave I don't want to talk to you." When Tigerheartstar threw a temper tantrum and left the gathering. I was literally laughing out loud so much.
10 out of 10 and I can't wait for the rest of this arc!!

Is this one of the darkest storylines in Warriors?
I'm extremely conflicted about this book. It's a filler book... but I don't hate it? I feel like I should dislike it more, considering it was 288 pages and maybe 5 things of actual note happened. Do I remember half the stuff from the last book? No. But guess what, it's okay because we rehashed it and talked it to death and argued about it amongst ourselves and those we love! :) I like the characters more than anything and I think the strong protagonists softens the blow of filler nonsense. I mean really, this is book three and we haven't even kind of resolved... 90% of book one. The second thing I noticed is that these keep getting shorter and shorter. Not that the original books weren't bite-sized, but the allegiances quite literally took up 16% of this eBook.
Firstly, I didn't really care about the three main issues LOL. Leafstar is stagnant and Tigerstar still sucks. The Brambleclaw Event™ really did not shock me. Not a tear shed. It's been literally three books coming and so drawn out that I honestly don't even believe he's going to stay that way! Crowfeather and the prophecies... eh. More arguing, what else is new? We're just starting to see the results in the last couple chapters.
Now for the meat and potatoes... I'm starting with freaking Starlingpaw slapping the tinfoil hat on again and making it everyone's problem this time. Hell yeah, funky dude, you yell at those clouds about nothing in the completely wrong direction! I love this guy. He's absolutely ridiculous. I feel like he's going to annoy so many fans. He's just so smart, he's stupid. 2+2=46 in this guy's mind and I love that for him.
Tawnypelt definitely grew on me. I know everyone is excited about TawnyxCrow... for some reason (I'm in the middle of TNP right now and these guys don't even talk! "Old friends" is such a stretch). But may I introduce you to TawnyxSquirrel... Could we get a Bridgerton situation in here? I like her storyline the least because freaking Tigerstar is there. I don't care that he changed his tune kind of at the last second. Bro just existed to draw the situation out and it annoyed the crap out of me. I'm interested to see her situation intertwine more with our two apprentice besties because they've... only been in passing. Filler book problems.
Moonpaw the GOAT. I really hope she stays with Goldenpaw. please, PLEASE don't let her end up with Starlingpaw. I just feel it in my bones after their run in. God, I felt for her. While I understand why she was treated how she was due to... recent events the past couple years (Ashfur), Tawnypelt realizing she was being a massive hypocrite was really interesting. Her storyline... may just be one of the darkest I have come across in Warriors. Which is saying something, but the attemptive ghost murder? Straight up saying Morningkit wants Moonpaw and her friends to die? That's... pretty hardcore.
I couldn't tell you what all this is being set up for, but I CAN say that it shouldn't have taken three tiny-ass books. I have a suspicion that this arc could possibly be setting up for a second TNP situation for the next arc. TNP moving took about a book and a half if I'm being generous. I don't see the current formatting and writing style being able to replicate that. Once again, only a brief mention of the wildcats and being so for real, I think releasing StormClan's Folly this far removed from the plot in which it's relevant was a mistake. I simply can't believe they based an entire super edition on ONE tiny little bit of ancient lore to never bring it up again. I would LIKE Moonpaw and Goldenpaw to accidentally stumble across the remains of StormClan. I would LOVE to see Starlingpaw tinfoil-hat the shit out of StormClan even more. One thing I will say that this book does well is that you can tell the ghost writer did their research, for the most part. I compliment the callbacks to older Warriors arcs, which previous arcs have definitely been lacking in.
The newer books have actually impressed me, to be fair. A lot of my gripes are... publishing company-capitalistic BS. I'm talking mostly about the length, editing quality and beefiness of the plotlines. I don't believe Warriors is marching towards a shallow grave and I really do see the work the writers are putting in. I wouldn't call this a five star because what DID happen didn't overly impress me but I wasn't disgusted by it either. I've definitely experienced worse Warriors books... but there are ones that are far, far better.
"Are you going to let an apprentice talk to you like that?" -Tawnypelt, Midnight
"Oh, Brambleclaw. My heart is with ThunderClan; don't you know that? My heart is with you." -Squirrelpaw, Dawn
"But I don't want you to go away. You're the cat I love most in the world. I'm most myself with you. Tawnykit, I want you to promise never to leave me." "I never will." -Bramblekit and Tawnykit, Chasing Shadows
Chapter Thirteen broke me. I had to put the book down. I almost couldn't do it. After a fake-out Crowfeather death, I didn't trust these guys. I was SO wrong. While I've seen some people argue that Brambleclaw's death was underwhelming, I have to disagree. Too often we've seen leaders go out in a violent or painful matter: Firestar, Mistystar, Onestar, Tallstar, Blackstar, etc. To have Brambleclaw, the second-most mentioned character in the entire series, go out in such a peaceful way, surrounded by his mate, sister, adopted children, and biological children was a truly beautiful ending that I think was fantastic. (FYI the most-mentioned is Firestar, and third is Jayfeather; go play this quiz and see how many you get ->https://www.sporcle.com/games/AshQuiz...)
The rest of the book, Tawnypelt's shenanigans with the elders, Starlingpaw truly being a complete buffoon, and Moonpaw's relationship with Morningkit coming to a head, was all good. Serviceably good. I am extremely excited to see the cats' quest to the Whispering Cave, as well as who turns out to be the prophesied cat.
However, this book is held up by the importance of it in the greater story. And now we say goodbye to Brambleclaw. May StarClan light your path. May you find good hunting, swift running, and shelter when you sleep. Say hi to Firestar for us.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for an audiobook ARC of this book, releasing on 3/31, in exchange for an honest review.
A more cohesive review coming soon, but for now I will just continue to praise this arc for its blending of the past and future, and for shining a spotlight on cats we’ve known and loved for many moons, but many of whom have taken a backseat to every new generation of POV characters. Thankfully, Starlingpaw and Moonpaw fit seamlessly into the bigger story enhancing the elders’ plot with their unique brands of Warrior heroism.
Now I will gather my thoughts and try to word them in a way that gets you excited, but spoils nothing. Praying to Starclan that I can.
UPDATE:
Changing Skies is making its way up my personal ranking as a top arc for the Warriors series.
The action of this book picks up right where the last left off...readers will get answers to that big cliffhanger pretty early into the book.
Tawnypelt is still grappling with the prophecy given to her from Bluestar and struggling with what it means for the future of the clans, and what the prophecy will mean for the future of her relationship with her son, Tigerheart/star. She has grown to be an excellent POV cat who keeps longtime readers close to the cats we've known and loved for years, and making those readers feel her emotions of getting older, saying farewell to friends, and feeling frustrated that the next generation always seems to think they know better. She exemplifies what it means to gracefully become an elder.
Starlingpaw has become a favorite cat in this series, as he gains courage in truly believing that he is a part of StarClan's prophecy. He isn't. That's what makes him fantastic. He's becoming bolder and sharper in how he treats the cats around him because he thinks he's been chosen--and it's a lot of fun to see the events unfolding through his POV. He's exactly the right regular cat to have delusions of grandeur, and it makes me wonder if he's as delusional as it seems. Maybe he was chosen by StarClan after all...
Moonpaw's story is becoming the most fascinating -- this plot is everything that Cinderpelt/Cinderheart could have been if it had been given the right amount of time and care. Morningkit is having dangerous toddler tantrums, and I am here for it! I don't want to give anything away, but Moonpaw's chapters feature the most emotional scenes in this book. A tear or two was shed.
As far as the audio, the narrator is really finding her voice in the series. While it would be impossible to replicate what her predecessor accomplished as the longtime narrator, it sounds like she's becoming more comfortable, giving each cat different inflections and tones. While I wasn't a huge fan of her narration in the beginning of her tenure, I really enjoy listening to her growth.
Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Audio for an advanced copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Ya'll know that I'm not too big on Warriors these days, but this was a fine installment. Thankfully not as much filler as I was expecting. I love our protagonists. Character-relationships are well-written.
But also Tawnycrow kinda sucks (no chemistry whatsoever) and Moonpaw is craving incest which ain't great. Oh well, it is what it is 🤷
WAIT WHAT IN THE STARS DO YOU MEAN TAWNY THINKS OF MOVING BACK TO THUNDERCLAN?! After seasons of making a home in Shadowclan and living through so much?! This is outrageous, I haven't even read the books since River came out but I want to now... My third grade self is coming back to me and kicking everybody in the shins. Who thought of this. (The series is still very near and dear to my heart, trust 3)
!major spoilers in the review (death of a character mentioned)!
First off, as a fan of Warrior Cats who’s read every book since the first one, this one has its great moments, but it’s not one my of favorites. There were some emotional parts, including the death of Brambleclaw (one of my favorite characters in the entire series).
Summary: The book has 3 POVs: Starlingpaw, Tawnypelt, and Moonpaw. It starts off with Crowfeather being injured while on the journey to the Tribe in the mountains, but waking up fine. While he’s still unconscious, Starlingpaw sees his spirit and overhears the prophecy he received, later confronting him at a gathering in front of everyone. Moonpaw makes friends with the other apprentices, confiding her secret, and they tell the entire clan about it. She is in a relationship with Goldenpaw, and they leave the clans behind. Tawnypelt is grieving after the death of Brambleclaw, and goes to all the elders in the clans to talk to them and ask them questions. Tigerstar finally forgives her in the end.
My thoughts: -I think Starlingpaw’s really bee-brained since he does really reckless things such as yelling at senior warriors and believing he can fix everything by himself, and still gets some praise for it. -As for Moonpaw, I feel really bad for her. She leaves the clans behind because she thinks she’s dangerous and doesn’t want to hurt anyone :( As for her relationship with Goldenpaw, it was surprising to say the least but I’m curious how it will play out. -The death of Brambleclaw hit me so hard :’( Also I was so happy Tawnypelt got forgiven by Tigerstar. Tawnypelt’s quest also seems like an interesting idea, but I don’t want it to be like the change from the old forest—>lake territory again. Tbh I feel like the Erins are slowly running out of ideas and are repeating old ones just with a new twist…
Overall, this is a solid read and like any other Warriors book, it’s a page-turner. :)
i am of the opinion that we are seeing a very steep and very OBVIOUS decline in the erins' writing. this book was practically all filler, with only three or four things of note happening. and everything is overexplained to hell and back, to the point where the reader feels SPOONFED. theres no room for debating, contemplating, etc. every inner conflict is solved within seconds and its all GARBAGE!!! I understand this is a series for kids and i shouldnt expect shakespeare but kids deserve better than what the erins' are pushing out! there is no love in any of these pages, just rushed work
also what? tawnypelt and crowfeather? what? what? what? are we insane? why do the authors act like they know so much
this is my first time reviewing a warriors book this low just because it simply pissed me off THAT bad. i have hope for the next book because the setup is promising but what it took to get there was insanely underwhelming
oh my goodness me i adore moonpaw and goldenpaw!! theyre so cute, so genuine, and so so sweet! unlike past romances, this one feels so real. they got 2 whole books to be friends and let readers learn their dynamic, and then this book was the perfect moment to let that friendship blossom into a cute crush, then courting.
im also pleased that theyre starting to let the characters "date" even if they keep saying 'future mate' instead of something like a boyfriend. the last time we really saw this was twigbranch and finleap, and before that squirrelflight and ashfur!
needless to say, a breath of fresh air
AND THAT DOESNT EVEN TOUCH ON THE DRAMA WITH STARLINGPAW AND TAWNYPELTS POVS!!!! TWOLEGS DESTROYED THE MOONPOOL OH MY GOD
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
the mental illness allegory is REAL!!! i relate so much to moonpaw’s self-isolation and doubt and silence - and also to how community and friendship is the solution!!! idk how these books keep getting better
I tend to rate books very high, but I can’t even squeeze the last star out of me for this one. Not a bad book!! But considering last time they did a human destruction arc, by the third book it was so extreme they were one foot out of the forest already. Just a very slow story but I hope now that there are some consequences set up for the fate of the territory but also for Moonpaw, let’s hope for some entertaining final books.
If you know me, you know that I usually rate Warrior Cats books FIVE STARS, every time! And this book... This book was NO EXCEPTION! It was FANTASTIC!
Where can I even begin?! It was so chaotic, funny, wholesome, sad, and full of action all at the same time. I guess we can begin with the big, fat elephant in the room: BRAMBLECLAW IS DEAD. Brambleclaw is dead. I can't believe this actually happened; I never thought the Erins would be brave enough to kill off a main character from The New Prophecy arc! The process of his dying started in the previous book, but it BROKE MY HEART in this one, knowing for sure that he was never coming back. And it was absolutely perfect. He knew he was dying, and he said all his farewells, and even tried to help Moonpaw in the end, albeit unsuccessfully.
Starting with Moonpaw's point of view, THIS WAS CRAZY. I never imagined that Morningkit would be able to HURT someone, let alone precious Goldenpaw! Speaking of which, I didn't think that Moonpaw and Goldenpaw were actually going to become a thing, but I AM ROOTING FOR IT! They are honestly so sweet and wholesome. Can we also talk about how Moonpaw LEFT her Clan to protect them? That was honestly so crazy to me as well because I knew that Moonpaw thought she was dangerous, but I didn't think she would go as far as leaving her family. And Goldenpaw came with her, how sweet!! :)
If I'm being honest, Starlingpaw's POV was probably the most interesting, lol. I find it so funny how he STILL thinks that he's the one who's going to save the Clans, and has become bolder in his approaches. Honestly, I think this was the character development that we were all expecting from him. And, I'm gonna say it, he's DEFINITELY the two-faced cat, I'm calling it! There's no way he's not, am I right?
Tawnypelt's POV, where do I even start? Do I start where she and Crowfeather have confirmed feelings for each other, even though I legitimately thought that Crowfeather didn't like her back? A part of me doesn't want them to be together, but a part of me thinks it's honestly SO RIGHT for them to be! Putting that aside, the development of the prophecy (prophecies?) was interesting, and I'm looking forward to seeing that come to fruition.
We cannot go further into this review without talking about the other big, fat elephant in the room: THE CLANS ARE MOVING. AGAIN. I've had the same Clan territory setup in my mind for the last 8 years, and now it's going to change again, lol! I understand why this is happening, and I'm intrigued as to why the Whispering Cave in the SkyClan's gorge?
All in all, FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS, always! Totally worth the read, and can't wait for more. Then again, this is my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt. ONTO NEW TERRITORIES, HEHEHE.

idk anymore. No one is making good decisions. Moonpaw decided to only tell the clans halfway through about her problem and even then Morningkit still got worse and she just decided to up and leave. Morningkit is obviously trying to kill her and nobody is taking her seriously. Nobody is taking Tawnypelt seriously either. Tigerstar is the real annoying fluffball because all he does is just have a big ego and think he is right all the time. Tawnypelt and Birchfeather all made their own decisions (and most of those are stuff he would do (like having a mate from another clan or having a strong feeling that you must save the clans)). I dunno what's going on with Starlingpaw but he is trying his best over in SkyClan but nobody is taking any apprentice seriously and it is making me rage, especially with what happened with Frostpaw last arc.
I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an audio ARC.
I love the narrator for this book. She does a fantastic job handling the many characters and is very engaging to listen to. The music chosen for the intro and outro are also great. This installment of the series was very engaging with a lot going on. I know I feel frustrated by one of the characters in a very good way. It adds a lot to the story and is really giving me hints to the future of this series. There is also just a lot of emotions in this book that I thought were handled well, especially when we get to a part of the book that was being heavily foreshadowed. I of course still love Tawnypelt and I'm looking forward to where her story goes next.
seemed a little repetitive. moonpaw gets several scenes hanging out with her friends. starlingpaw gets several scenes where others praise him for being outspoken and brave. I did not want to read one more scene with them xD the death scene was bad/good (bad that one of my favorite characters died but it was written well and the goodbyes made an impact on me) moonpaws decision near the end of the book brought me to tears. always good to be moved to feel something while reading a warriors book. so while this one didn't feel as fulfilling or like anything actually "happened" ,im still giving it a 5 and as always looking forward to the next one.
I’ve been reading the series since day one. I have loved all the adventures, the super editions and novellas. This series truly feels like The Erin’s have lost all their good ideas. A cat with paws in two worlds? Someone they can’t trust? An apprentice setting up secret meetings? Hasn’t this all been done before? Brambleclaw’s death wasn’t even that sad. It was a kind of “whatever moment.” I liked him well enough, Purdy, Brindleface and Dustpelt’s deaths wrecked me more than Brambleclaw’s. I’m three books in, sadly I’ll most likely have to finish this series. Please tell me there aren’t anymore after this?
I don’t think I’ll ever stop reading this series. I love and relate to Moonpaw so much. Her and Goldenpaw are adorable and have the makings to be one of my favorite Warriors ships. I’m interested in how their journey away from the Clans is going to be, because I don’t think theres ever been a subplot in the main arcs where cats left the Clans for a quest or without clear direction.
Also, Starlingpaw is so interesting to me. He doesn’t seem to think through things a lot and I feel like he has the potential to do a lot of damage.
Overall, a good Warriors book that really made me want to read the next.

decent. nothing is happening in this arc though. starlingpaw is an overconfident guy, but its so funny how hes so chill with seeing spirits. "oh yeah im kin to tree. easy" like pal. and moonpaw and morningkit dont think about it at all after. and goldenpaw and moonpaw are gonna get a ton of trouble coming for them I bet. but overall theres just nothing happening. shame about the moonpool though. next book will be them traveling to the whispering cave I bet. tigerheartstar pmo. why did he have to wait until everything was going wrong to listen to tawnypelt

Pretty solid entry, despite my grievances with the audiobook narrator, and a few glaring editing errors (the worst being two separate instances where Ivypool is in the Thunderclan camp when she’s supposed to be on the mountain journey with Sparrowpaw).
I’ve decided I do like Sparrowpaw, though he’s still the least interesting of the 3 protagonists. This is shaping up to be a pretty decent story arc! Like the previous two books, I didn’t feel that there was any filler content put in to pad out the page count. Crossing my fingers that it stays that way
I was not expecting to tear up over Brambleclaw. He reminded me so much of my tabby childhood cat who passed away, and now feeling the emotional impact of losing a character that has been with me for 16 years, like my cat. I kinda hated the way they wrote him out, like how lame does he die to a silly mistake, but thinking about it, it’s a kinder way to go than some brutal fight or accident. I wasn’t feeling the last series, but Changing Skies I’ve been enjoying and become invested in, especially with Moonpaw. I feel for her and her loneliness.

A tope mi telenovela gatuna preferida.
‼️ I got an early release version of this book, MAJOR spoilers follow!‼️
I've been a warriors fan for ten years now, and as much as I love warriors, this new arc is falling short. We are now on book three of Changing Skies and basically nothing of significance has happened yet. Starlingpaw is beginning to be a bit more mischievous and self-righteous—and I do think he is being set up to be a villain—and Moonpaw is struggling with Morningkit and her newfound love for Goldenpaw (great, more incest...). Tawnypelt doesn't have a lot going on except for her and Tigerstar II arguing every other Tawny POV chapter.
Only three interesting things happened in this book to move the plot forward, and 2 out of 3 of them happen in the last two chapters: Brambleclaw dies, Moonpaw and Goldenpaw run away to the twoleg place, and Starlingpaw starts a group of... rebels, I guess? Other than that, not a single thing has really happened over the span of three books. The cats have gotten absolutely nowhere with the quest.
And something else... the names for these new characters are getting ATROCIOUS. Puffkit, Silkypod, Sprucetip, Conekit... This is getting outrageous! These names are awful! Have the authors truly forgotten about the beautiful, abandoned prefixes like Deer, Lynx, Wolf, and Vixen? I can't believe this. I literally laughed out loud at the names listed above. This needs to be addressed immediately...

Okay okay I’ve actually been fairly happy with this new arc so far. The newer arcs have been a bit disappointing, but this one isn’t as bad I suppose. I’m actually pretty invested in it, especially Tawnypelt bc I love her lol (she does need to get her priorities straight tho) Can’t wait for the next one!!
