Rate this book
Justice is not always fair. Sometimes it can be deadly.

When a young boy opens the boot of an abandoned car, he hasn’t just found one body, but lifted the lid on the chilling operation of a serial killer. And now his own family are in danger.

Detective Sergeant Tom Robertson joined the Met to make a difference.

Someone else has also set out to make a difference, but he’s playing from his own rulebook. One where the law and sanctity of life mean nothing.

Can Tom unravel the murders from the past fast enough to stop a killer in his tracks? But as the clock ticks, more young lives are in peril.

Join Tom and his colleagues for Deadly Justice, the second full-length instalment in the feel-good Detective Tom Robertson series, combining police procedural crime fiction and murder mystery with compelling characters and a thread of humour.

Deadly Justice raises the stakes and proves that the Detective Tom Robertson series is hitting its stride. From the chilling opening discovery in the boot of an abandoned car, this second instalment grips the reader and refuses to let go.

The premise is haunting and emotionally charged, particularly with a young boy at the centre of the discovery. The sense of danger is immediate and personal, and the threat to innocent families adds real urgency to the investigation. This is not just a hunt for a killer—it’s a race against time.

Tom Robertson continues to shine as a lead character. His motivation to “make a difference” is tested harder than ever, as he comes face to face with a killer who believes he is justice. The moral conflict between lawful policing and vigilante brutality is handled intelligently, giving the story depth beyond the murders themselves.

The plot is tightly woven, skilfully blending past and present crimes while steadily increasing the tension. Each revelation feels earned, and the ticking-clock structure keeps the pace sharp without sacrificing character development. The supporting cast once again adds warmth and balance, and the subtle humour provides welcome relief without breaking the dark atmosphere.

What makes Deadly Justice especially effective is its exploration of moral ambiguity. The question of whether justice is always fair lingers long after the final page, elevating the novel from a straightforward crime thriller into something more thought-provoking.

A powerful, suspenseful, and thoroughly entertaining sequel. Deadly Justice confirms Detective Tom Robertson as a series well worth following, and leaves readers eagerly awaiting the next case. Highly recommended.
