Having just finished Silence of Six, I had to read the prequel short of Evan's last day and moments to that hacked broadcast and public suicide that triggered the events of the book. It helps to have read the book first to know what is happening and the end it's leading to, has more dramatic impact that way. This short story adds to the main story, lets you into Evan's head without giving away spoilers or getting into the technical details of how Evan dug up his info and how he planned to expose Panjea. I like that Myers really gets into Evan's character, and it's not like reading from Max's point of view. Readers can see how differently Evan approaches things, how he struggles with certain things, and his autism is handled thoughtfully, without being heavy-handed and even better, without being the defining thing about him (ie, he is a brilliant hacker because he has Asperger's). The pacing is great on this short, jumping back with back and forth over 2 days with key moments that build up to the final scene, Evan's views on his internet life and hints of what he is planning, and the sense of panic and his SOS call for help (nice tie-in to with the SOS references, Silence of Six abbreviation).

I really liked seeing Evan’s side to the story. I read this after I read the first book but it cleared up some of the questions I had. Even though it is the prequel to the first book, I would still read after you read the first book.

Calling all book lovers! Lets begin by mentioning that this is the short prequel for the book "The Silence of Six" which you can find my review for here. http://kirstensbooknook.blogspot.com/...

Non-Spoilers:
This is written from Evan's point of view and is written in a little over a 24 hour sequence. Evan goes through preparations for his big night to hack into the Presidential Debate. He must ask the world, "What is the silence of six and what are you going to do about it?", then do the unspeakable.

If you have any interest in reading "The Silence of Six" or have already read that book and what more, I most definitely recommend picking up this book! It is only pages and a nice addition to the book.

I rate this book a 81%.

Spoilers:
One of my favorite parts about this story was seeing Evan's POV and how he saw himself. I was used to being overlooked and ignored. He preferred it over being mocked for being or acting different. He liked anonymity, but also notoriety. That was why he would succeed and love being online. I loved him comparing hacking to being a real life superhero or villain.

I hated how his parents looked at him like he was a freak. He liked how he was and they just couldn't accept that. I hated how they wanted to change him, yet he was perfectly content with being himself and it made him a better hacker. I hated how they both treated each other though. Evan called him parents Tony and Allie instead of Mom and Dad. You could really see the gaps in their relationship. It, at least, made it a little better when he saw his parents for the last time and hugged his mom and told her he loved her.

It was interesting to find out that he was on meds, but stopped and that they were supposed to help his anxiety. It makes you wonder how much he exaggerated and if it was really necessary to kill himself.

I liked how he realized that him being some predictable could help his friends figure out the silence of six. I loved how he found comfort in Penny and how they talked to each other. It was really sweet in a sad sort of way since he did not tell her anything about his plans.

It was awful seeing Evan freaking out and waiting on Infiltrator to see if he was really alive. Especially since we know what actually happens in "The Silence of Six".

I really liked the scenes between Courtney and Evan though. I loved how he realized how nice and gentle she was being to him. It was funny seeing how he programmed himself to say "thank you" and "sorry" just because it made others feel better. She covered for him a lot with little to no answers. I would not have done the same if I was in her position I think.

I thought the whole SOS thing was interesting and I liked how it kept reoccurring throughout this story. It was also interesting how Evan only recognized himself when he was wearing the Dramatis Personai mask. I also thought he acted very Sherlock Holmes-y when he said that emotions are so inconvenient.

It was so awful to see his POV of his suicide also... It was unreal to hear what was going through his brain and how his anxiety was taking over. It was so strange to hear his last few thoughts and how they were focused on helping others and his greater sacrifice.

This was a really good addition to "The Silence of Six"! I really enjoyed reading Evan's POV and how he thought instead of just hearing from others how he supposedly was. I liked being in his head and deciding for myself how he really was and how he saw himself and his purpose.

Tomorrow I will be releasing a new post called ""The Silence of Six" and "SOS: A Prequel to The Silence of Six" Playlist. Make sure to check it out! Over and out.

This story is a prequel to the book "The Silence of Six," but I found it to be more interesting to read after I've read the full story. While it does set up the main story found in "The Silence of Six," the focus is on Evan, and learning what his motivations are, and how he sees his place in the world. The author gave Evan a distinctly different voice from Max, the main character in "The Silence of Six," which is a credit to his writing abilities, especially considering that Evan is a character on the autism spectrum, and Mr. Myers writes his character in a thoughtful and eloquent manner, not relying on his autism to be his defining feature. Evan is in an impossible situation in this story, and even though I knew where his fate led, I was attached to him by the end of the story and did not want him to follow through with his plan. Overall, this is a good addition to "The Silence of Six" and I recommend it to flesh out the world and learn more about Evan as a character.

This is how a short story is done.

I'll admit. The only thing holding me back from five stars is the odd back and forth of the timeline. That was disorienting and unnecessary.

It was interesting to see what was going on in Evan's head and life before everything happened.
I wanted to know more about Evan and the situation he was in before his live stream and this did it for me.

It's a shame that this is the only way we ever got to meet Evan. Still, the suicide from his point of view is chilling.

It was interesting to read from Evan's POV and even though I knew what was going to happen from reading the novel it was still pretty intense.
