Spencer Tritt

I’ve always loved three things more than Raven Peak Ranch, my daughter, and my garage.

I’ve never gone lookin’ outside my own hometown for bigger and better things.

So when the rodeo comes into town, and my sister drags me along with her, I’m not expecting to be thrown into the orbit of Buckin’ Bronco Champion, Heath Macabe.

His golden brown eyes draw me in, and I can’t help but fall.

Too bad, after an incredible night, I find out he’s engaged…

And he’s still naked, in my bed.

Heath Macabe

The rodeo has always been my home.

As the Buckin’ Bronco Champion I’ve always had plenty of attention from fans, and I’ve never been too picky about my partners.

Men, women, it doesn’t matter to me as long as it’s consensual, but the moment I meet Spencer Tritt, that all changes.

Because for the first time in my adult life… I find myself imagining a future with someone.

Too bad my PR manager decided to set up a fake engagement without askin’ me first…

And he kicks me to the curb.

**Wrangled and Tangled is intended for a mature audience.**

This was solid. I was entertained and I liked both MCs. I think there was some substance missing for it to truly feel like there was suspense or mystery. Nothing was alluding to anything shady happening in town until what’s his face died so it was kind of out of nowhere. Other than that it was good and I’ll be continuing the series. Spice was amazing, dirty talking on 10.

A Cliffhanger... Really?

KU Read

MM Cowboy Romance
Mechanic/Bronco Champ
Age Gap
Single Dad
Murder in the Peak
Fake Engagement
Reformed Playboy
Pierced MMC

I have been excited to read this one as it has popped up on my feed more than a few times so instantly got bumped up my TBR. I love a good Cowboy Romance and even better if it has a twist or two and this has those from the get go, but make no mistake this is a romance between a single father who was widowed and the Bronc champ who has had enough of being pursued by buckle bunnies and wants to find a home, a family, a soft place to land!
Enter Spencer Tritt, a 35 year old rancher\mechanic rocking the dad bod and not really looking for anything when his attention is caught in Heath one night at the Rodeo. Their chemistry is fire and after a ONS both are somehow looking for the next step but before they can even discuss it that idea is blown apart by social media announcing Heaths engagement (fake engagement he did NOT approve with his agent) and more shockingly, the murder of his fellow Rodeo competitor that he is now suspected of killing.
It's a lot... and hardly ideal circumstances for love to grow but, well read and you'll find out.
Will I be reading book 2? Errrrrrrr yeah, I need to go where it's going now with that little truth bomb dropped at the end of the book.

5 stars — A story that wrapped around my heart and didn’t let go.
Wrangled and Tangled is the kind of book that stays with you. Taylor Wilson-West has once again proven that she’s a master at crafting stories that are equal parts tender, emotional, and deeply impactful.

Spencer, the single dad, absolutely stole my heart. His quiet strength, his love, his resilience—I couldn’t get enough. And Briar? A sunshine soul who brought light to every page. Then there’s Heath—persistent, complicated, and so loveable in his own way. These characters felt real. Like people I’ve known. Like people I missed when the book ended.

What really blew me away, though, was how Taylor tackled heavy, meaningful topics with such care and intention. Nothing felt rushed or glossed over. It was honest and raw, but also so full of love and hope.

Every time I pick up a TWW book, I know I’m in for something special. And Wrangled and Tangled might just be my favorite yet.

3.5⭐️

Overall, I did enjoy this book. It was pretty fast paced and a quick read. 3.5 is my “this was a good book” standard rating and it hits that.

I have very scattered thoughts. Maybe I’ll write a better review soon but here are my current thoughts:

For someone who doesn’t like insta love, I actually really liked the insta love in this. I did think there needed to be like one more chapter about Heath’s time at Spencer’s so we could see their relationship and Heath and Briar’s relationship grow. Even as it was, I loved how much Heath cared for Briar.

I am all for a twist in the epilogue, but I’m not 100% sold on this one. Maybe like 50% sold. Will I read the next book to find out what really happened? Absolutely.

Things I loved:
The dirty talk
Heath’s relationship with Briar
How much Heath loved Spencer’s bod
Heath. I just loved him so much.

Things I wanted more explanation to:
The wedding
Learning when/howHeath started calling Briar daughter
How Pearl and Spencer weren’t conventional
Random- but what was Clive doing the week pen was gone ?! And why was it written to where it was kind of sus?! Or was that just me.
Who the Walker rider is/ what happened to Jarrett. Please tell me it’s not him OR if it is that it’s a redemption ARC
Eddie. I just want more Eddie.

This book definitely gave what the author said it will give: An M/M cowboy romance with a little bit of murder, daddy kink, age gap, grumpy x sunshine, small town, flirty x serious, and single dad. I enjoyed the overall idea of this book and some aspects of it really hit. But some others didn't like sometimes I was reading a scene and suddenly it jumped and changed places and I was left so confused. Was there a car ride? A walk to get to this place? How did they get from point A to point B? I don't get it. The writing was a bit confusing to me, personally.

Even though it's not really a 300-400 pages romance novel, it is a 200 something pages book, you know? I felt it was very hot and cold for a bit and then they went full on that I didn't believe the romance... kinda. If you know me, I LOOOVE novellas and I love insta-love. But this story was more tell and less show and that's why I just really thought that they didn't spend or talk about many things in order to fall in love in a few weeks or instantly.

I think it was mainly the writing that didn't work for me. But I do believe that other readers would enjoy it more!

Wrangled and Tangled took me for a ride, but I’m not sure it was altogether a good one???

Going in I didn’t realize there was going to be a murder plot line—which isn’t my favorite thing to begin with, but here it was underdeveloped and poorly executed. I’m talking zero build up and literally no suspense whatsoever.

So much potential with so little pay off, and definitely not enough to hook me into reading Unserious (which apparently is gonna tell us what really happened).

Also what was the point of the fake engagement plot? Just drama for the sake of drama? It could have been fleshed out and added more depth to the story but was completely brushed over and wrapped up in like two chapters.

I will say Heath and Spencer were cute, but their relationship went from 0 to 100. I’m only a fan of insta-love in certain instances, and this was not it.

I think the best parts of the book honestly had nothing to do with the romance 🤣 Spencer was such a great dad and I loved Heath’s relationship with Briar too.

Overall Wrangled and Tangled had a lot of potential to be great, but fell incredibly short of hitting the mark for me.

This story took me by surprise—and I absolutely loved it. We’re introduced to Spencer: a devoted single father, hardworking rancher, and garage owner who lives a quiet life centered around family and responsibility. Then there's Heath: a thrill-seeking bronco rider and reigning rodeo champion, living fast and free, always chasing the next good time.
When their worlds collide, sparks fly. Heath is instantly drawn to Spencer—not just the chemistry, but something deeper that catches him off guard. Just as they begin exploring their connection, a murder rocks their small world, and Heath finds himself the prime suspect. On top of that, a fake engagement scandal threatens to ruin any chance he had at something real with Spencer.
With unexpected twists, heartfelt tension, and emotional depth, this story kept me hooked. The push and pull between Spencer and Heath, mixed with the mystery and emotional stakes, made for an intense and captivating read.

Quotes:

Biting my knuckle, I close my eyes for a moment to center myself. I really don’t want to fuck this up. “You like what you see, Daddy?” He growls.

“My body tenses when you’re near. I can sense your eyes on me, like the sun meetin’ the sky. You’re all I ever notice when you’re around, and I hate it.”

“I’ll be a good boy,” I whine, licking my lips and dropping my eyes to his still-wet cock. “Please, Daddy, cum down my throat.”

⁉️QOTD: What would you do if the one person who made you feel seen… turned out to be off-limits? ⁉️

The rodeo is in town and single dad Spencer locks eyes with a certain fine ass bronco riding champion. Heath has been known to be a playboy and yeah he’s a shameless flirt but one kiss confirms that there’s something special about Spencer. He knows one incredible night will never be enough but that’s all Spencer can offer. Heath also doesn’t expect the next morning for all hell to break loose with his publicist faking his engagement to some random woman without his consent. Oh yeah and someone framing him for murder. Spencer agrees to let him stay at his house 1) because Heath’s trailer is taped off by police and has no place to stay and 2) so Heath will have a trustworthy alibi from here on out. Spencer has trouble opening his heart up but damn if that cowboy doesn’t make falling in love feel easy.

I so enjoyed Spencer & Heath’s romance. They were cute, they were spicy, and the small cozy family vibes had me melting and audibly saying “awww”. No surprise here but this was another banger from Taylor!

This book suprised me in the best way and had everything you would want in a M/M cowboy romance.

When our widowed single dad, Spencer and our rodeo star, Heath meet for the first time, sparks fly right away. Their instalove story came with challenges and plenty of twists that kept my attention from start to finish.

I absolutely loved seeing Spencer as a dad to his teenage daughter, Briar. Their relationship was pretty special. Seeing him letting himself finally be happy was the best feeling. The same with seeing Heath find his happy place. Together, they made a beautiful couple with a deep connection and hot chemistry.

If you are looking for a fast paced story with a good plot and spice that hits just right, this book is for you.

I would like to thank Taylor Wilson-West and Nisha’s Books and Coffee PR for the opportunity to read and review Wrangled and Tangled.

3,5 ⭐️ rounded up to 4!

Was this a literary masterpiece? No. Did I experience some issues with the pacing and plot? Yes. BUT regardless I absolutely frikkin’ devoured this book in 2 days and adored many other aspects of the story. Spencer and Heath make for such a cute couple and the story had so many elements that I love; MM, cowboys, dad bods, single dad, small town and a little touch of true crime!

There's something about a man in dark wash jeans and leather chaps that fucks with the chemistry of my brain.

Thank you to the author for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!

Three things mean more than anything to Spencer Tritt: his family, his daughter, and his garage. When he joins his sister, Lucy, for a night at the rodeo, he never expected anyone to catch his attention there...especially not the incredibly handsome Buckin' Bronco Champion. But Lucy knows about that man, and the things she's heard about him make him the kind of man that Spencer would steer clear of. His heart wants one thing, but his mind is saying something else.

Sure, Heath Macabe has a past and a reputation, and his most recent antics certainly aren't helping, but what 23-year-old doesn't do that when they get in the spotlight? His PR manager, however, has decided it's enough. At a routine rodeo tour stop, Heath's eyes fall on the handsome, tattooed man in the stands, and Heath starts feeling things that he's very unfamiliar with. But Heath's PR manager decides at the worst time to drop news of Heath's fake engagement, and the best damn thing Heath has found kicks him out of the house.

When Heath finds himself in the middle of more trouble than he ever could have imagined, there's only person he can turn to...and that man sure as hell doesn't want to help.

I'm sure you could have the pick of the litter if you wanted, Cowboy.

And I picked you.

When I read the tropes and features of Wrangled and Tangled, I was immediately hooked. A cowboy romance that features plus-size representation and a single dad? Sign me up. Spencer and Heath's relationship is a bit of a whirlwind from their first night together, and there are plenty of ups and downs. Spencer certainly doesn't open up easily, for the sake of both his heart and his daughter, but there's just something about Heath he can't deny. I loved watching Heath slowly deconstruct his walls and become a person and steady presence that Spencer can trust and rely on.

So much of the small town in this book reminded me of my hometown, and the family dynamic reminded me of the best parts of my own. They're all a little meddling, even with good intentions, but they'll always be there for each other in the end. I love that we got to not only meet the rest of Spencer's family, but we got to explore and learn about who they are. They were dynamic side characters that added so much love and heart to this story.

The only thing that made me deduct a star from this book is the pacing. A LOT happens in a couple of days at the beginning of the book, and it felt like quite a lot to digest. There was a passage that discussed how it had only been a day, and I thought it had been several days at that point. As readers, I think we could have benefitted from an extended timeline, especially in the beginning of Heath and Spencer's relationship, to extend the story and make it feel less rushed. Should this discourage you from reading it? Absolutely not, and I loved the story in spite of this.

What can you expect in this book?
- Bronco Rider
- Small town mechanic and rancher
- Bi for Bi
- Plus-size representation
- Single dad
- Small town love
- Murder
- Hurt/comfort
- Daddy kink

Wrangled and Tangled releases July 1st, and I can't wait for the rest of the world to fall in love with Spencer and Heath!

3/5 stars 2/5 spice

The found family trope in this was beautiful. Spencer really had all the support he needed from the ladies in his life. They all accepted Heath and were pushing for their happy ever after.

I wasn’t expecting the murder mystery in this and while it added to the drama, I found that there was no build up to it nor suspenseful scenes adding tension in the story. Also, the fake engaged plot didn’t last that long either. It seemed like it would be a huge factor to the plot but it’s only an issue for a couple of chapters.

I liked Heath’s character and his ability to bond with the ladies in Spencer’s life but I felt like he deserved better, especially when Spencer pulled away from him and let him go when he wanted to stay.

Thelma the raccoon was a hoot. That scene when she took something from Spencer’s bedroom was hilarious. It’s one of my favourite scenes.

- Single dad, ranch hand, mechanic, tatted, pierced, dad bod MMC
- Small town
- Murder mystery
- Found family

This is an opposites attract small town romance, featuring Spencer Tritt and Heath Macabe, and is book one in the Raven Peak Ranch duet.

Spencer falls hard for rodeo champion Heath after one amazing night, only to find out he’s engaged the next morning. Heath is shocked too—it turns out the engagement is fake, and now he has to choose between his career and a real chance at love.

I really enjoyed this book! It had just the right mix of mystery, steamy hookups, a touch of insta-love, and a sprinkle of daddy kink that totally worked for the story. The chemistry between the two leads was undeniable—they felt like they were always meant to find each other. I’m definitely excited to see where book two goes as the mystery looks like it will continue to the next book.

Things to expect in this book are:
Book 1 in duet
MM romance
Small town
Slow burn
Opposites attract
Mechanic x rodeo cowboy
Single dad
Small age gap (34/25)
One-night stand
Miscommunication
Surprise (fake) engagement
Spicy times & dirty talk
Daddy kink
Pierced c*ck
Murder mystery
Found family

Did I put all my other books on hold to read this one? Yes, yes I did.

It was a quick, good read with a insta-love story. Normally, I’m not for them but this one was 💋chefs kiss💋

The banter between Heath and Spencer had me cracking up and kicking my feet. Blair is a badass child who deserves the world and I will fight anyone who thinks differently.

Lucy? I was worried about her for a minute there but then at the end, she had a moment of clarity and leaned on her family for support. I’d love to have a book just for her story and moving on.

Same thing with Eddie. He’s the best friend of Heath - I’d love to know more about him. How his life is going now that he is still on the rodeo circuit.

OH! And can we talk about the ending? Staci? Miss ma’am - EXCUSE ME?

I throughly enjoyed this book. I can’t wait for book 2!

I enjoyed the story, and enjoyed both MMCs, but it just fell a little flat and uneventful. The mystery aspect had promise and started out interesting, but then just nothing happened? Ends on a cliff hanger and I have to read the next book to wrap up that storyline ?
Maybe if this book was longer it could have developed more and had more substance to it while letting us in on the romance and how that developed too because it just felt rushed. Enjoyable and an easy read, but just too fast paced.

First MM romance

This was my first MM romance book and I ate it up! Spencer and Heath’s instant attraction and then slow burn was delicious. Loved Mewmaw, that lady knows her stuff.
Wasn’t sure about all the mentions of Spencer’s round stomach, I don’t think it needed to be in there, not in a body shaming way but the fact that it added nothing to the story.
Will I be diving into another Raven Peak Ranch book - absolutely!

This author is new to me, so I was unsure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised! This instalove story isn't easy or obvious. The characters are well-developed and the plot is entertaining. There are twists and more angst than I anticipated. In fact, it ends after something very unexpected and dramatic is revealed. Now to wait for book 2!

My thanks to the author for a copy; this is my honest review.

Gimme this cowboy.
Even if it starts of strong I still consider this a slow burn. These two really do get to know each other and fall for each other during their time together, tension building and walls falling. Add in some daddy kink and a found family and it's well worth the read. And as always Taylor never gives us just a love story but a little suspenseful plot in the background. So good

enjoyed the romance but i wish there was more, felt like there were huge gaps where development happened and we skipped over them. but let me tell you the mystery element to this was really interesting and definitely kept me invested. also ate up heath and briar’s relationship and how they came to love each other and she came to trust him. not a big fan of the dirty talk with the spice. and the twist in the epilogue was very much a shock and i very much need to know more.

I really liked the main characters and the establishment of their romance but I wasn’t fond of the plot, kind of a lot going on at times, and totally didn’t realize it was going to be a murder involved, scandals, and other tensions. This book however did have some of my favorite tropes, single dad, mm romance, grumpy sunshine vibes that I did really enjoy! Recommend if you are interested in any of those revolved around rodeo cowboy themed plot lines. Overall not bad! Heath was my favorite for sure, grew on me and his protective nature with Spencer’s daughter was my favorite piece of the book!

Okay, I wanted to love this but I just couldn’t. It wasn’t bad by any means, it just needs some more work.

The pacing was off, we went from rushing to nothing at all happening to develop the romance, to a murder plot that fizzled into nothing to heartbreak and then immediately time skipped to forgiveness with zero groveling.

The characters had backstories that didn’t add anything meaningful or that were so defining it made it feel like he wasn’t over his past love.

Heath was a playboy…but wasn’t, because he was tired of sex and wanted to find his person. His agent was a bitch that made decisions for him and he should have fired her, so nothing endearing about that, and what do you mean, the star rodeo guy couldn’t get a social media guy fired on sexual assault charges?

Spencer was a dad, and a widow, and that was it. He was defined by loving his wife and still after ten years not moving on to the point his own daughter had to force him to go out to a bar (in a very weird scene ngl). His relationship with his daughter sometimes felt more like a roommate/friends relationship than anything else, and I understand it’s summer and you have family close, but she was sleeping out the house with her grandma more than in her own bed.

And the side character felt interchangeable and had minimal personalities/ meaningful moments.

The plot was lacking, it was there and gone without giving the reader anything, instead of an actual point it felt like a forced plot to move the romance along. And the “plot twist” at the very end felt like a throwaway thing to tack in to make it more interesting but it didn’t work, in my opinion it just made a character worse because they did what they did without truly considering consequences and how their actions would fall on others.

And the romance…Heath was into Spencer from the get go, while Spencer was a coward and running away (like you are 35 my guy wtf are you going?). Spencer then decided to push and push and push Heath away and one day “oh okay I do want to pursue something with you” and then begins a slow ass relationship where nothing happens but domestic scenes and moving from one house to the other.

And the spice? That pissed me off a little, we get the first ONS moment and then absolutely nothing (not only nothing in terms of spice, but noting in terms of anything) until 75% where a rushed BJ happens and then nothing again till the ending. And the sexual moments were the only ones where I felt these two had any connection so that tells you everything.

Again, I wanted to love this, but it was mediocre and I feel like it didn’t stand out or give me anything to love.

Thank you, Nisha and Taylor, for the e-arc.

Quotes:

I want him, and I have a feeling having him once would never be enough.

"You'll wait until I'm ready, Cowboy. Do you understand?"

"You don't get to touch what's mine without permission."

This gorgeous man, that I thoroughly enjoyed fucking, still wants me, and he hates it. I can see it every time he looks at me.
That I can work with.

I want him to know me well enough to complete my sentences, to buy me little trinkets just because he thinks I'll like them.
Shit people do when they're in love.

"Now, suck while I fuck your bratty fucking mouth."

This was my introduction to gay romance and I can't say anything except im a little disappointed. I think the plots had potential but there was too many space warps, sections where they skipped major details, to be honest at the beginning I was wondering if I started at the right page because I started so majorly confused.
I really liked the characters but there was barely any development and depth to them, and when there was it was so far into the book it didn't really matter anymore. For example the fact that I wasn't even sure if both of the mmc's were out, there actual sexuality (Spencer I don't recall ever being mentioned) and backstory besides that health was a fuckboy and Spencer the single daft dad. I think It was badly written to the point I found myself questioning at times weather it even made it through first round editing phases. There first meeting had potential but then it just turned into this odd stage of not 'do we kiss' but rather 'when are they going to kiss' and then they did and it was so anticlimactic. I thought there would be more emotional reactions to things, like when Spencer found out that Health was engaged I was like "Ohhhh now it's getting good!" but then they just went back to each other. Then there was the parts that made it so irritable like the fact they kept saying the lines of 'I've only known him for a week but...' and that just frustrated me to another level because of course that was realistic but they had only had like one conversation and that's barely a connection like seriously? My phone has more of a connection to its charger than they did.
That brings me to my next point... The daddy kink. I get it and it makes sense and stuff but like... what weirded me out was the fact he actually was a dad and at one point his daughter literally called him daddy and so it just made me a little queasy. maybe if the nickname was the other way around it would be fine but like...
Also I felt as though every 5 chapters they reminded us Spencer was muscular but also like... fat. 'his stomach rolled over his belt' I think this rough line was said at least 5 times. Like yes not everybody has to be ripped and filled with 6 packs but why are you like screaming at me that hes fat?
Alas when the murder plot I was again thinking 'oh this is when it gets good maybe they add in a little scare' especially when they walked into the garage and it was unlocked but instead of finding a murderer they just fucked. The murder plot was so irrelevantly resolved and anticlimactic as well as underwhelming and I feel for a man your supposed to love the sister didn't really care after a day? Anyway needless to say I thought 'slay!!' at the end when the murderer was revealed and although im sure it has relevance to a prequel that's written I won't find myself picking it up as the writing in this book almost put me to sleep.
2 stars because although its boring, irrelevant and stupid plots I still read the whole entire thing and didn't loath it like some books I have in the past.

**Wrangled and Tangled is intended for a mature audience.**"

I received an ARC for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

First, the positives! Wrangled and Tangled is an MM romance with a lot of sweet and funny moments and excellent chemistry between the two MCs, Spencer and Heath. Witty banter and tender moments add levity to the serious plot elements. The story includes some solid, endearing supporting characters, namely Eddie, Briar, and Maxine. This story involves major insta-lust, which I'm usually more okay with when reading PNR (especially with fated mates). Aside from a few questionable moments, this book mostly does a good job with that trope. This book does involve a few spicy scenes, but it doesn't make them the main focus.

I do have a few qualms with the story, though. First, this one does include a third-act breakup! This plot device is used too often and is probably the one I dislike the most. I also feel that there were several details mentioned that needed more explanation and questions that went unanswered. I think that maybe there were simply too many subplots to fit into one book without making it 400+ pages long, so a lot of things (ex.: the period between the present-day storyline and the epilogue) were (somewhat frustratingly) just glossed over instead. And surprise, this book is actually part murder mystery! That fact alone actually doesn't bother me. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the fact that this subplot is also glossed over for much of the book before leading to a twist in the very last scene that seems to exist solely to make the audience read the next book if they want to see the full mystery solved. I'm currently on the fence as to whether or not I will be doing that. 2.75/5 stars

A cowboy romance featuring two bisexual men, one of whom is plus size? Where’s my pen? I’m signing up right now! 🤩

I discovered Taylor Wilson-West through her Gravity Hill series, which I loved. So, when I heard that she was releasing a new book set on a ranch, featuring a love story between two cowboys—one of whom is plus size—and a schmurder mystery, I knew I had to read it.

I really liked this book. I found the characters extremely endearing. As I often say in my reviews, I’m mainly interested in the characters’ personalities and behaviour when I read a book. If I can’t connect with the characters, then it’s difficult for me to connect with the book. Fortunately, that was absolutely not the case with Wrangled and Tangled, and I’m delighted about that!

I wouldn’t have minded having a father like Spencer—mine was also a mechanic, but that’s where the similarities end. I like the way he treats Briar. It’s immediately evident that she is the apple of his eye. Even when he makes decisions that upset a typical teenager, he always does so with Briar’s best interests and happiness at heart. Of course, Spencer isn’t just a single father raising his daughter alone since his wife’s death; he’s also a man who isn’t completely closed off to a potential relationship.

Enter Heath Macabe, the rodeo champion who is known on the circuit for being a player, but who ultimately just wants to find someone to love and have his heart safe with. When he meets Spencer, it’s instant attraction. The single father is hugely attractive to Heath, who just wants to see him again and give in to his feelings for him.

A fake engagement and a schmurder later, we find ourselves completely caught up in a story whose ending we need to know because the suspense is almost unbearable. Fortunately, while we wait, we can follow the evolving relationship between Spencer and Heath during this period, as well as Heath’s integration into the Tritt family.

I also grew very fond of Maxine, Briar, and Thelma, who is a real minx—but we love her for it!

I can’t wait to find out what happens next in the Raven Peak Ranch series, especially after the twist at the end of the book. In the meantime, I highly recommend Wrangled and Tangled.

Many thanks to Taylor Wilson-West and Nisha's Books and Coffee PR for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of Wrangled and Tangled. This review is my own. All opinions expressed are mine.

I love cowboy romances and have been gobbling them up lately, so when I saw this one coming out I thought why not? It's got all of my favourite things in it, let's give it a go.

Spencer is a small town mechanic and single dad. He's rocking a dad bod (love that) and get's dragged to the Rodeo by his sister who is dating this dude who works as part of the Rodeo. While there he lays eyes on a younger Bronc rider - Heath. They make eyes at each other and after a bit of a pursuit on Heath's behalf Spencer gives into the hot, younger rodeo dude and takes him for a different kind of ride 😍.

Heath loves the rodeo and the challenges it presents. He likes to spread the love, so to speak, so his PR lady starts to get a bit salty with him and organises a fake engagement to 'improve his image' with a lovely young lady. That would have been all good and well... if he hadn't just met a man that made his heart beat for the first time in forever.

If you think a fake engagement is problem enough for these two, think again. There's also the small matter of murders - yes plural - happening and the police investigating Heath as a potential suspect. Then there's Spencer's family, including his teenage daughter and sister and trying to figure out if/how Heath might fit into that dynamic.... honestly, easy was not the path laid out for these two.

I loved reading about the two of them figuring their shit out, especially with all the added drama, exploring their budding feelings and coming to realizations about themselves and their lives.

At around 250ish pages, this book was a quick read for me. It's very succinct and to the point. Now I personally enjoy details and would have gladly read another 50 -100 pages of interactions with these two to flesh out their relationship just that little bit more.

Overall though, it was a good start to any potential series and there are plenty of directions that the story can go in the future, either with these two or with some of the other characters introduced throughout.

Check your triggers before proceeding, for a shorter book a lot of stuff goes on, and it's important to mind your mentals. Then, sit back and enjoy.

We love a good low-angst, fast burn book!! Not only was Heath and Spencer’s story so sweet, but Heath’s relationship with Briar too 🥹 The love story between these two was such a beautiful example of fate and finding love when you least expect it.

I loved the author’s writing style but the murder plot felt a little out of place along with that fake engagement 😂 like we love it for the drama but I feel like we could’ve went with something else. I also have personal dislikes with the daddy trope and not getting engagement/wedding scenes😭 I feel like with those scenes we’d be able to feel a deeper connection towards the characters and the connection they share together. Like I yearn for the emotional factor badly lol.

This wasn’t a bad book by any means but it felt like something was missing. Otherwise, I am very happy that they get to lead a life of love together as a family 🥰

“There’s somethin’ about a man in dark wash jeans and leather chaps that fucks with the chemistry of my brain.”

“I want to know who he is. Maybe my gut knows he’s a good one, a diamond among pebbles.”

“This man could murder me, and at this point, I think I’d say thank you as long as he fucks me first.”

“And yeah, I do think you’re special. I think you’re worth jumpin’ through hoops for.”

“I feel like my life’s a puzzle, and these two are the pieces that I’ve been missing for a long time now.”

“My body tenses when you’re near. I can sense your eyes on me, like the sun meetin’ the sky. You’re all I ever notice when you’re around, and I hate it.”

“Drink your fill, Daddy. I don’t mind.”

“You’ve been in my life for less than a month, and I already want things I thought I’d never want again. You’ve given me a gift, and I want to make sure I give you everything I can in return.”

“I don’t know what it is about you and Briar, but you both feel like home to me. Like two people I didn’t know I needed to make my life mean something more than just the rodeo.”

“If I left, I would miss it. Of course, I would, but knowing Spencer wants me… That’s worth so much more than the rodeo ever has.”

“I’m not retirin’ for you. I’m retirin’ for us.” — “I love you, Heath Macabe.” — “Kept me lookin’ long enough, Spencer Tritt. I love you, too.”
