Thrust into a world of magic where the veil between life and death is thin, Lucina must navigate a bloodline stained by betrayal, anomalous power, and a demon bound to her soul.
Lucina Carmine was raised as a burden, studying the stars as if there was greener grass tucked between them. On the other side of the continent, the Captain was raised as a weapon, oathbound to protect and serve the Sol—witches forced to evacuate their kingdom after a betrayal led to the fall of their once glorious city.
When a fate-led scrape with death awakens dormant magic within her, Lucina's life collides with the Captain’s. Faced with the opportunity to uncover her true ancestral lineage, she joins him in Pirn–a hidden refuge for the Sol.
Suspicions rise over her mysterious arrival, and until her bloodline can be revealed, the Captain is ordered to watch her every move. Tensions rise between them, the line of professionalism begins to blur, and the Captain loses what he has spent his whole life guarding–his heart.
But the emergence of her power has provoked something far more sinister, and when Lucina uncovers the full truth about her heritage, perhaps she is the last person he should trust it with.
If you don’t read this book you’re a raging idiot.
I had the pleasure to be one of the first people to read this novel all the way through. I also got to edit it! I’m not kidding when I say it was beyond phenomenal.
It was something so special and nothing like I have ever read before.
Lucina has a terrible home life, and finds herself in a new world where she learns everything about her past. This whimsical world is where she meets the aloof and horrifying Callan, and things get CRAZY.
There are demons, healers, and witches, it's a fantasy, thriller, romance all in one. It seriously rocked.
5 stars for Anomalies. 5 ENTHUSIASTIC stars. Like oh my god please read it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Absolutely OBSESSED with this book. The plot, the characters, the romance I’m simply SCREAMING begging for the next one to come out so I can keep reading this series. It was so unique and simply a phenomenal read. Counting down the days until I get to read about Lucina and Callan again!!!! So good Rachel!!!!!
OH MY GOSH!?!? This book just left me speechless.. like what 😳 This book kept me captivated the whole time, I did not want to put it down, and I couldn’t. It was fast paced (but not too fast), gripping, tension building, everything that just kept me engaged. If you like books that have witches (both good and bad 😏) that aren’t your typically witches that brew potions and use spells, then this is for you. It was a new take on the magic system and otherworldly figures that I just ate this up. Everyone should go read this book immediately!!!
- 3.5 stars First, I’d like to say how proud I am of this author. I have been following her journey to getting this book published, and I’d say the hard work paid off. The story elements were creative and not overly predictable, which was refreshing to see. The action got started fairly quickly, so it didn’t take long to get into it. The only caveat for me was that I didn’t feel overly emotionally invested in the characters, particularly the side characters. However, this was still a solid read and I look forward to reading what this author puts out next!
This book was insane. The way Erin writes out how the magic feels and works with the FMC is genuinely something I can't stop thinking about. The character dynamics, the world building, the pacing. For what is quite honestly not a long book, Erin is somehow able to navigate so many different storytelling elements without a hiccup.
In short: read this book.
Thank you to the author for allowing me to read this book as an ARC!
I had the privilege to get to read this book before its release and i’m so thankful to Rachel Erin for creating a new fictional world for me to fall in love with.
The friendships, the tension, the slow burn, the BANTER!!! If you are looking for a protector type of romance, “touch her you die”, self-growth and overcoming unfortunate given circumstances, fantasy & all the magical elements, this is the book for you. Rachel’s writing is so creative, so descriptive & I want her one liners on MULTIPLE t-shirts.
My girl Lucina is such a strong FMC and I loved her from the very beginning. The main characters and friendships she makes with them along the way have me wishing I was friends with them all.
Last but not least (at all) the ending has me BEGGING for more. I can’t wait to see how this story continues.
This book deserves all the love and investment the reader world has to offer 🫶🏻
Another debut author coming out of the gates with an absolute BANGER of a book?? Sign me up every gd time.
Anomalies was a trip from beginning to end. One that Rachel takes you on with detailed and unique world building, lyrical prose that you want to print on a T-shirt, and characters that grip your heart and get you cheering for them from the beginning.
When Lucina (ever so gracefully) drowns, she ends up on the other side of the wall she’d been drawn to her whole life. Only to be kidnapped (her words) by the hot Witch and brought to a world so incredibly different from her own. She meets her people, truly a great core group and meets a new version of herself that she could’ve never dreamed of being, nor mastering.
Rachel, you knocked it out of the part. Proud of you, friend. 🫶🏼
For a debut novel, this was impressive!! I want to be a debut author myself. So because this was the first book written by an indie author that I’ve read, I read Anomalies with intention—watching out for how things were written, story beats, etc.
The writing of this book alone blew me away. Booktok books are super overrated with their overused adverbs that end in —ly and their tendencies to describe the same thing more than once. This book didn’t do that at all! I also appreciated the world Rachel created. Every story about the world or little aspects of its history that came up were well thought out, and it was cohesive throughout the book. But what I loved most about Anomalies was the feeling it gave. Through the friendships Lucina encountered to her relationship with Callan, it either made me tear up or experience butterflies in my stomach!!
The one thing that irked me a bit was Callan’s character and how his relationship with Lucina began. While he was a stud, some of the things he would say didn’t sound realistic. It’s almost like he wasn’t given enough time to build up to those crucial moments of wearing his heart on his sleeve. They’re a cute couple and I ship them, but I feel like when they got together, it took me off guard because I wasn’t expecting it so soon — especially when they’d been away from each other for a good portion of the story.
Overall, Anomalies is definitely a great read and I’d recommend it to anyone who loves kicking their feet and living vicariously through witches :)
- 3.75 - two things: absolutely entertaining. this gave me the vibe of the early 2000s found family tv shows like tvd but personally it gave me soo much Winx energy and i loved that. i didn't feel that the book was 350 or so pages at all! in fact i truly felt like i read 200 pages because it was super fast paced and fun! i giggled and had so much fun like i truly don't remember the last i had so much fun with the vibes. tho i have to admit that the book was 70% vibes and 30% plot. however it had captured the found family vibes, the 2000s witchy vibes. i think i saw it was slow burn love story but unfortunately it didn't feel that way... it felt that they fell in love instantly (not sure if it's supposed to be slow burn tho) the cliff hanger was TOUGH tho. but i really felt like we could've gotten more plot in this book. my fav character is def PAX. i loveee a good side character. i def have so manyy theories and i doubt everyoneeeeeeee.
Listen… sobbing into the darkness at 3am and then laughing immediately afterwards was not what I had in mind with this book when I picked it up, but boy am I glad I did. I have no words, none. The plot, the characters, the genuine friendship and connection. The slow burn of the romance between the main characters that had your heart racing. Everything, and I do mean everything about this book was absolutely immaculate. The air of mystery, the ending. Holy shit the ending. The stakes being raised higher and higher with each page turned.
I will be talking to everyone and anyone who’ll listen (even if they don’t) about this book, and I am gutted I can’t get a physical copy shipped to me but maybe one day I’ll be lucky! There isn’t enough stars for this book… there really isn’t
Right, I randomly came across Rachel’s TikTok page and instantly followed along on her crazy self-publishing journey. In all honestly I never expected to love this book as much as I did. (Normally witchy vibes aren’t my thing)
But call me converted.
From the get go my first thoughts were, “God, this is some good writing.” And it just got better. I loved the plot, the friendships, the ROMANCE!
Gods, Callan…I just love him. But most of all I actually loved Lucina. It’s been a while since I’ve read a book where the main character didn’t give me some sort of ick? I loved her sass, her energy, her loyalty, and her humour.
Throughout, I found myself laughing, crying, and just soaking up the world in which Rachel has built. To me, the story was original. The world building was original, and the romance didn’t take over the whole story.
I think my only bugbear is the fact I wanted to see Lucina outside of Pirn…but then again, I didn’t once feel like the story dragged.
I’m so excited to see where Rachel takes this!

I never write book reviews, but this is a 5 star book, so I can’t not! I loved the world building because there was enough that you understand the plot, but it doesn’t drag on forever and ever. I could not put this down because we would get a hint at some big info, but have to keep reading to find out what it was. I WAS HOOKED! The found family aspect was great because you know that our FMC didn’t grow up with many supportive people around her. The side characters were great, I really enjoyed Pax because he’s just a silly guy, duh! Also, OBVIOUSLY LOVED our two main characters, how can you not want to read about a protective MMC DUH! And the way Lucina was a total badass at the end, I need more of that. Overall, one of the best books I’ve read this year and I can’t believe this is the author’s first book. I NEED MORE LUCINA AND CALLAN 🙌🙌🙌
First of all I absolutely DEVOURED this book. I could not put it down. Second… I was giggly, kicking my feet. SMILING so hard reading this damn book!! Also.. OBSSED with this man! The characters are so easy to fall in love with. The friendships are so cute and did I mention this has one of my favorite tropes?? The SLOW BURN ENEMIES TO LOVERSSSS 1000x yes. There’s a little bit of spice but not too much. It’s exactly what you need. Honestly this book was 5/5. I’m so excited for the next one!! You killed it Rachel!!!
A standing ovation for RACHEL ERIN! 🙌 This book pulled me out of a massive reading slump and reignited my love for stories again. I adored the main character—her personality, her strength, her heart—everything about her felt so real. The writing had me hooked, the emotions were real, that one line? “I need you, Gods, Lucina, I need you.” Chills. Literal chills. This book is a SIX-STAR read in every way, and I’m absolutely desperate for the next part of her journey. Bring on the sequel—I’m so ready.
Let me just start by saying, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!
I got the absolute pleasure to read this ARC, and it absolutely took my breath away. Rachel is an amazing writer and story teller.
Lucina is such a strong FMC. I related to her on so many levels throughout the book, and absolutely love her! The friendships (Pax I love you), the lovers (you’ll see), and the magic will all pull you in! So please, please take my recommendation, and read this book.
I had the opportunity to read this book prior to release day and it was hands down my favorite read all year! I enjoyed character development and the overall story. I have really fallen in love with the strong FMC! Once you pick this up you will not be able to put it down and you will be disappointed to know that the next book is not available yet…. I am PATIENTLY waiting! I truly cannot wait to see what’s in store for these characters! AMAZING job 💜
I absolutely loved this book, i finished it in two days and could not put it down. Lucina has my mf heart i fucking love her, don’t get me started on Callan either i’m in love with him too.
(no like im so obsessed with callan i cannot wait until everyone can meet him YALL DONT GET IT LIKE I DOOOO)
Arc reader, thank you to the author for giving me the opportunity to review her book!
Anomalies is poignant, emotional, and truly captures the feeling of finding where you belong.
I was crying by chapter 9. The characters, the lore, the story kept me turning page after page. I cannot wait to see what comes next. Definitely will be rereading ♥️
Eloquently written with a fresh take on witches and the deep lore behind their world. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Rachel Erin’s fast paced and full of twists debut novel.
I had the pleasure of getting an ARC of this book, and I’m so happy I did - it was SO much fun.
I devoured it in less than 24 hours and just couldn’t put it down.
The magic system was unique and super intriguing, the romance had me giggling and kicking my feet and the found family and friendships had me grinning!!
And that cliffhanger?! An incredible debut, can’t wait to read more from Rachel!
This genre isn't typically what I enjoy reading. However, the writing was so good, it sucked me right in. I enjoyed the story line and cannot wait for the next book to come out!
This was just not good. It was like that author had a checklist for what needs to be in a Romantasy style book. The romance was very rushed without the main characters even having much contact or conversations first. This did not do it for me.
I don’t even know where to begin because Anomalies truly blew me away. I’ve been in such a reading rut lately…..nothing was holding my attention or sparking that excitement I used to feel about diving into a new world. But LET ME TELL YOU within 14 pages i was hooked! The author’s writing is absolutely beautiful. Every scene was vivid, every emotion tangible. It was so easy to picture the world she created, to feel immersed in it, and to care deeply about the characters and their journeys. Highly recommend!!
This was such a solid debut. The magic system felt fresh and different, and Lucina was the kind of main character you genuinely want to see succeed. I really liked how her strength wasn’t just handed to her…she had to grow into it, and that journey felt earned.
Callan was a standout for me too. He had that protective vibe, but it never felt overbearing. Instead, he challenged her in all the right ways and believed in her even when she didn’t believe in herself.
There were a couple slow patches, but nothing that pulled me out of the story for long. The world has a lot of potential, and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for what Rachel Erin does next.
Watching Rachel’s Tik toks about this book turn into a reality has been amazing and I love it! I CANNOT WAIT for the next book omg read it read it now!
