Sable Point #3

Unearthed Dreams: An Age Gap Small Town Romance

Rate this book
She was his second chance. He was her first everything.

CHARLIE

Twenty-two years old, fresh out of college, and living in my childhood bedroom—not exactly what I planned. Everyone expects me to know what I'm doing with my life, but that’s hard to do when you grow up under the microscope of a small town with three overprotective big brothers. Except when I crash into Kai Callaghan on Main Street, suddenly I know exactly what I want, and it has nothing to do with the secret manuscript I’ve written. Everyone in town thinks he's broken, damaged by a past he rarely speaks about. But I see the truth—a man worth fighting for, even if we have to keep our relationship a secret.

KAI

The last thing I need is to fall for Charlie Everton. She's ten years younger, the cherished baby of the Everton family, and far too innocent for a man with my past. But there's something about her quiet strength that calls to the darkness in me, making me believe in second chances. When she hands me her manuscript, trusting me with her words, her dreams, her heart—I'm lost. Now, with grief threatening to send me running and her brother spiraling into the same addiction that once consumed me, I have to decide: do I run from the only good thing in my life, or stay and fight for a love I don't deserve?

The Sable Point series is known for small town open-door romance, strong language, and just the right amount of angst. Unearthed Dreams delivers a full HEA with no major cliffhangers, though a few series-spanning threads continue. It reads fine as a standalone—but if you want the full emotional gut punch, start with Reclaimed Roots and Cherished Lands.

this book was fine, but it didn’t really pull me in until about 60% through. the beginning felt slow and kind of disconnected. i just wasn’t super invested at first. there were a few emotional moments that got me, and yes, i did cry, but it took a while to feel anything.

charlie was okay. she’s quiet and tends to fade into the background. while i liked parts of her story, she didn’t really stick with me. i appreciated her dream of wanting to be a writer and how she slowly started to open up, but i never fully connected to her.

kai had more depth, and i ended up liking his point of view more. his grief and guilt felt real, and i understood how he convinced himself he didn’t deserve happiness. he tried to act like their connection was something he couldn’t allow, but then he was suddenly saying all this flirty, emotional stuff way too fast. it didn’t fully make sense, but his softer side came through and i did feel for him.

overall, there were some strong emotional scenes, but the pacing and lack of connection early on held this back for me. it had potential, but it didn’t fully land.

“Seven days. That was all it took for my entire world to shift on its axis. Seven days of stolen kisses and quiet laughter, of watching charlie work on her novel with that adorable furrow between her brows, of falling asleep to the sound of her steady breathing. The peace I’d found in these simple moments was foreign to me – dangerous in its perfection.”

i. book review
Slow Hands — Niall Horan

I thought this was a slow burn, but DAMN this burnt FASTFAST… I’m pretty sure it took the two main characters about a week to get into each others pants before actually knowing each other.. Kai trys to act as if their love is forbidden (on his end atleast) but very VERY quickly talks so dirty to her??? Kinda not forbidden if youre given in at the first sight of her BUTTT this was still so good

I loved how gentle Kai was with Charlie during the spice lessions, he was so caring and SO SWEET. UGHHHH. While he was sweet, the spicy talk happened SO quickly and when they like first officially met too??? Not my cup of tea but hey!!!

I think I need myself an older man who calls me his “pretty girl” and supports my dreams of writing a book. Theyre bond over books is really really cuteeee

ii. quotes

“Billy’s words echoed in my head: You deserve good things, son. Even if you don’t believe it yet. Maybe it was time to start believing.“

“Having the attention of a man like Kai felt a little dangerous, exciting, freeing. I hadn’t been allowed to so much as go out on a date in high school, and here I was getting notes from a man ten years older than me who was drop-dead gorgeous.”

Charlie and Kai are goals! I devoured this book and went through every emotion with the characters.

Charlie is a 22 year old college graduate who moves back home where she is the quiet, shy and inexperienced baby of her family. She has dreams of becoming an author but doesn’t think she has what it takes to put her self out there.

Kai is a 32 year old bartender (and owner) who moved to town 2 years prior and has a reputation of a loner bad boy vibes. He has experienced more in life than most and lives in a guilty state of mind thinking he doesn’t deserve the good things in life.

When these two have a run-in the day Charlie moves back, the chemistry is undeniable and explosive. The slow burn between the two is beautifully done and keeps you wanting more of their story.

The emotional roller coaster was a doozy - like Say You Swear by Meagan Brandy level - and I felt like I was a part of their struggles, strife and journey to overcome it all for each other!

A Small-Town Romance That Feels Real and Heartfelt

Sometimes, the best love stories come from the quietest places, and this one is no exception. Kai, a gruff man in his thirties, meets Charlie, a woman whose wisdom and warmth are far beyond her years. Despite his initial doubts about their age difference and her close-knit family, Kai finds himself drawn in by something he can’t ignore. Their connection grows naturally, without forced drama, making their journey feel genuine and relatable.

What stands out most is how they complement each other. Kai offers steady support, while Charlie helps him see his own value in a way he never expected. Their relationship unfolds with a comforting ease that makes you root for them, and it’s clear why Charlie’s family comes around to their bond. This story captures the subtle beauty of finding love where you least expect it, with characters who feel like real people.

Kai & Charlie!!! These two just had me kicking my feet and squealing with the banter & sweetness.

💗 Small town romance
🌸 Age gap (10+ years)
🥃 Bar owner MMC & newly graduated aspiring author FMC
❤️‍🩹 Grief & loss
☀️ Grumpy X Sunshine
❤️‍🔥 Virgin FMC
🌶️ 💦 in the 👖 microtrope
🪞 Spicy mirror scene 🤭

📖 Kai’s encouragement of Charlie’s writing just had me so deep in my feels. Her passion had never been celebrated or encouraged before, and his faith in her was so sweet.

🥃 Kai is seen as the grumpy town outcast who doesn’t believe he’s worthy of someone as beautiful and kind as Charlie. She really helps him heal from old wounds and see that there is a lot to love about himself.

❤️‍🩹 There were some pretty heavy topics regarding grief & loss as well as addiction, cheating (not by either MC), and difficult family dynamics. They were all handled with such care and gave the story characters such depth.

I really loved how Lauren Kiser handled the loss of virginity in this story. It felt so true to Charlie & Kai’s relationship, and you could see Charlie getting more confident throughout. Kai was so attentive to her needs and really encouraged her to take the lead and the dictate path they took physically. A king!!!

Thank you so much to Lauren Kiser for the gifted copy of Unearthed Dreams!

Lauren I am obsessed! I’m so in love with this story and both the main characters.

Just like the first two, book 3 in her Sable Point small town romance series, this one was amazing!

The age gap, opposites attract, forbidden love tropes were 10/10. Obsessed with both of the character development and how much they brought the best out in each other.
All of Lauren’s books are so original and different and I love that I can read them in one night.

The way I’d describe the dynamics in this book:

Silver Fox meets Book Worm
Dark traumatic past meets innocent baby sister
He falls first and she helps him learn to accept that

I cannot wait for book 4, Chase’s story is needed - so many questions for him and his future.

As much as I tried I just couldn't... Legit skimmed through the last few pages and almost all the smut scenes. I am someone who enjoys them but this... I just couldn't.
Also the fact that when Kai saw her, all he could think of her was in sexual manner? I couldn't digest the fact but I still pushed myself with it.
I like a few plot points ans her dream but she litreally has no backbone at least she build some towards the end.

I devoured this book. Absolutely tore through it and loved every second. And here's the kicker — I haven’t read the first two books in the series (yet), but I didn’t feel lost at all. Unearthed Dreams stands completely on its own and delivers a wonderfully saucy, emotional, and heart-melting romance that hooked me from the first page.

Charlie is one of the most relatable characters I’ve read in a while. She’s socially awkward, introverted, and would 100% rather be curled up with a book than making small talk — basically, my soul sister. She’s also a first-time author who’s poured her heart into her manuscript, and I felt so proud of her throughout her journey. I loved her instantly.

And then... there’s Kai. Phew. Dark, broody, carrying emotional scars — but with a heart of gold he tries (and fails) to hide. From the moment he meets Charlie, he is down bad, and I was here for every second of it. He sees her for exactly who she is — and even more importantly, who she could be — and supports her so tenderly. His encouragement, his protectiveness, the way he tries to keep his distance for her sake (and fails)? Swoon.

Their chemistry is off-the-charts, but what made it stand out was the sensitivity and care woven into every spicy scene. Charlie is a virgin, and Lauren Kiser handles their intimacy with such tenderness and respect — it’s steamy, but also meaningful. Every moment between them felt earned, real, and deeply emotional.

Beyond the romance, I loved the personal growth arcs. Charlie really finds her strength and voice, and Kai begins to see himself as someone worthy of love and happiness. They make each other better — and I’m such a sucker for that kind of mutual healing.

Rosie deserves a shout-out too. She clocked what was going on between Charlie and Kai from day one and was determined to help them find their way. A total gem of a side character.

And just when I thought I was cruising toward a sweet HEA, the subplot with Charlie’s brother Chase and his addiction — and the motorcycle accident — hit hard. It was such a tense, emotional moment that added real depth to the final chapters. My heart was in my throat.

This book was everything I want in a romance — angsty, tender, spicy, healing, and so, so satisfying. Another fantastic age-gap romance, and Lauren Kiser just earned herself a permanent spot on my TBR. Can’t wait to go back and read the first two books in the series!

When Lauren Kiser released the blurb and tropes for Unearthed Dreams, I knew I was going to love reading this book! I have been reading Lauren since her first book and she never fails to make all the feels happen during her stories. The third book in the Sable Point series, she keeps bringing more and more to her books that just makes me love her more and more as an author. She truly takes time to mold her characters and ensure their stories make sense. She writes organically, the story never seeming forced, but a natural progression. The spice is delicious in this book as well, which is always a plus.

Kai is perfection in this book! His inner turmoil broke my heart, but slowly Lauren put it together again, as Kai realizes he does deserve to be happy. Having gone through a loss, he has come to think he doesn’t deserve the good things in life. When he encounters a recently returned college student, his world is turned upside down. He isn’t ready for the undeniable chemistry that flows through them, how she would be his undoing, and as he tries to fight these feelings, he just can’t.

Charlie is returning home after college. She is the baby of her family and tends to blend into the background. She dreams of becoming an author, but is afraid to put herself out there and take the chance on her dream. When she meets Kai, sparks fly. As they continue to revolve around each other the feelings get stronger and stronger. Charlie may be quiet, but she is the kind of person that when she does speak, she is saying something and is wise beyond her years. I couldn’t get enough of how she brings Kai back to life.

The emotional rollercoaster that this book had me on is well worth the ride. I trust Lauren when it comes to her writing, and although this book has its ups and downs, I knew she would have it all come together in the end. She is an author that I will shout about and recommend to others to read. Her story of Kai and Charlie is all about healing, trusting, and taking chances. Our MCs support each other throughout this story. And Kai with the sexplorations….sir, please! I can easily say this is my favorite story of hers, thus far, but I am excited to see what she writes next!

As always, review any author notes before reading.

Reading something good and getting hooked from the very first word is very difficult for me if its not a thriller but this book had me hooked from the very first word. I love reading small town romances and this had every little thing that I expect and want from that trope specifically.
When our whole life has been nothing but a nightmare we just loose hope of ever getting something good out of it no matter how much time has passed and how much things changed. But sometimes god has some other plans and we get unexpected chances in the form of people and places that forces us to hope again.
This is the story of Charlie who is the most introverted main character I have read in my life and I related too much to her. She just finished her college and decided to move back to her small town with her parents. She has no jobs in hand and just a manuscript which she has been writing in secret from her family due to the fear of being made fun of by her three brothers. But when she meets the only bartender of the town who is a decade older than her she kind of falls for him at first sight but as much introvert she is and on top of that her three over protective brothers will she be able to express her feelings to him?
Kai is the introverted bartender of the small town of Sable Point who inherited the bar from his father-in-law who has receding dementia but no one in the town knows about their relationship. He has a lot of past baggage which made him feel like he isn’t worthy of any kind of love or care ever in life. But as he meets the youngest Everton, who has reserved nature as him but also the glint in her eyes that brightens his whole world he can’t stop but fall in love.
Will they become one or the age difference be the biggest barrier between them? What will happen when Charlie comes to know about Kai’s past? Will they overcome all these hurdles or the problems will separate them for life? Will her family ever accept the 10 years older man for their precious daughter?
Read this amazing story to find all the answers.

Regardless of the time that has elapsed and the changes that have occurred, we inevitably lose faith in the possibility of attaining anything good when our whole existence has been merely a series of nightmares. Yet, at times, God has different plans, presenting us with unexpected chances through individuals and places that encourage us to strengthen our belief.

Charlie, the central figure of this story, is the most introverted main character I've ever encountered, and I found it too easy to relate to her. Upon finishing college, she and her parents chose to go back to their small town. She is unemployed and is solely focused on a manuscript that she has kept secret from her family due to worries that her three brothers will tease her.

Nevertheless, she somewhat develops feelings for the town's only bartender, who is a decade older than her, at first glance. Yet, considering her shy nature and her three overly protective siblings, can she express her emotions to him?

Even though the villagers are oblivious to their connection, Kai, the reserved bartender in Sable Point, took over the bar from his father-in-law, whose dementia is progressively deteriorating. His vast past experience has caused him to think that he does not deserve love or kindness in this lifetime. Nevertheless, he can't resist falling for the youngest Everton, who possesses a similar reserved nature yet has a sparkle in her eyes that brightens his whole existence.

Besides being an open-door romance located in a small town, this story also explores themes of addiction, loss, and complex family dynamics. It is composed in a straightforward manner that remains sincere and deeply moving, making it an emotional journey.

I wholeheartedly recommend the complete series! Reading Unearthed Dreams independently is certainly feasible, but to establish a stronger emotional bond with the characters, I recommend beginning with the initial two volumes. I’m about to watch all of Kiser's earlier series in one go.

For lovers of cowboy romance, Lauren Kiser, Elsie Silver, and the Price of Love series.

Charlie is the quietest and youngest of the Everton siblings, and she’s been keeping a huge secret while away at college… She wrote a fantasy romance book. She dreams of being published, but nobody has ever been so lucky to read it. With her first romance still out for grabs, her brothers’ love lives has been the greatest inspiration for her novel.

Kai Callaghan is the sexiest bartender in town. With the bar to manage, his history, and a broken heart, he has built up walls around himself as protection from ever getting close to anyone. Quietly taking part in small town events, he’s become quite the celebrated man in Sable Point. All he needs is for someone to give him a second chance at living his life to the fullest.

A fast-paced, character driven story with so much depth and emotional vulnerability. I loved the range of emotions I felt: laughing uncontrollably, bawling my eyes out, screaming murder, and grimacing like a fool. I made SO many great highlights throughout reading.

Sable Point series is an interconnected standalone romance, and although you don’t have to read the entire series to love the characters, I highly recommend reading from start to finish. It’s such a gem, and I can’t get enough of it.

Lauren Kiser wows me again. Every time I pick up one of her books, it is impossible to put down. But this one REALLY tugged on my heartstrings. Kai has such a special place in my heart, he deserves every moment of happiness that he has. Charlie is a loveable character, and so different from any of the other Evertons. And Charlie is every reader’s dream: A main character obsessed with books.

“Thank you - for letting it be me, for choosing me, for loving me. I will do everything in my power to be worthy of it.”

Lauren Kiser - you’ve done it again. This book is the 3rd in the Sable Point series and it is my second favorite of the series thus far. I love how Lauren can pack so much into a book that is under 300 pages. The writing is well-done and the characters are well-written.

Kai and Charlie are absolute age gap perfection. Their personalities balance each other out so well. Our MMC, Kai is 32 and he’s the experienced newbie to the town. He took over the bar from his father-in-law when his wife died and the father-in-law needed to go into a senior care facility. Kai didn’t stir up trouble in the town and was the quiet bartender until Charlie returned from college. The description of Kai was so well done with the gray/white hair pulled back into a man bun and the facial hair. He is what girls wet-dreams are made of. He wanted to be respectful of Charlie because she was so much younger than him, but he can’t stay away from her. Kai is supportive and caring and isn’t afraid to let his softer side show.

Our FMC, Charlie is 22 and just graduated from college with a degree in English Lit. She doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life so she returns home to Sable Point which is where she runs back into Kai. From that initial meeting, Charlie is enamored and keeps finding herself drawn back to Kai. It starts out with her wanting somewhere quiet to work on her novel, so Kai offers his bar for her to come into during the day while he takes inventory and cleans up. From there the relationship builds and develops. Charlie is tough and open. She embraces her curves and her body and isn’t afraid to speak her mind about what she wants.

The build-up of the relationship between Charlie and Kai was wonderful. I loved how they started as just friends due to the age. Kai supported her in drive to become an author. He treated her like an adult when the rest of her family still treated her like the little sister she was. The more time they spent together, the spicier things became and it all started because of Charlie taking control of the situation.

Can I say that I was not expecting the incident towards the end with her brother Chase. I was shooketh! From Chapter 28 on I shed actual tears. I was distraught and disgusted with her brother. And can we talk about the pressure that Kai put on himself during this time and the love that he showed. I was tore up and couldn’t love him more.

The only reason that I gave this book 4 stars was because I felt like we could have had more of a background story on Kai and Charlie. Other than that, I would and will 10/10 recommend this book to anyone. It was such a good read and I can’t wait to read Chase’s story in the next book!

“She was his second chance. He was her first everything.”

Thankyou for my ARC copy! I binged all three books in this series and I ate them up! I love a good small town series! 🙌🏼 Unearthed Dreams is available on the 18th of June on KU.

Whilst I found Unearthed Dreams a little slower to get into compared to the first two books, once our two main characters really started to connect, I fell in love with them. Charlie and Kai are perfect examples of how two complete opposites can attract. On one hand, we have Charlie - an innocent and sweet aspiring author. And then we have Kai - a tough older man who has faced a lot of hardships in his life. Not only do these two characters bond over books and connect on a sexual level, but there is definitely a strong emotional connection too… the way she trusted him to read her manuscript had me swooning, and the way he tried to protect her from him had me melting. Both main characters simply complimented each other so well, with Kai teaching Charlie how to be confident and sexy, and Charlie teaching Kai that he is worthy of love and happiness.

“They say the perfect partner isn’t someone who completes you - you should be complete on your own. The perfect partner compliments you. They make your strengths stronger and your weaknesses less daunting. They challenge you to be better while loving you exactly as you are.”

Yes, this story is a small town romance with open door spice (and boy is it spicy 🔥😮‍💨🫠), but it also covers topics of grief, addiction and complex families. It truely is an emotional rollercoaster and it is written in a way that is easy to read but still raw and heartbreakingly good.

I highly recommend this entire series! Unearthed Dreams could definitely be read as a stand alone, but I would suggest reading the other two books first for a stronger emotional impact connection to these characters. Brb while I go and binge all of Kiser’s other series now.

Unearthed Dreams by Lauren Kiser is book 3 of the Sable Point series following Charolette “Charlie” Everton and Kai Callaghan. This is an age gap small town romance and has heavy topics so make sure to keep yourself protected and read the content warning.

Charlie, our FMC, 22 years old and the baby sister of 3 older very protective brothers. She’s inexperienced, a shy introvert who would rather stay home and read a book (or edit her own) than be out in the party scene. After graduating college she moves back home to figure out what’s next, she knows without a doubt that she wants to have her book published, she just needs to focus on editing it first….while looking for a quiet place in town to work on her book, she runs into Kai and the way he calls her Pretty Girl makes her feel things she’s not quite used to and wouldn’t mind feeling more of.

Kai, our MMC, a widower who grew up in the system, he’s always had it a little rough. He hasn’t laid down any real roots at 32 years old and has no plans starting now in Sable Point…that is until he talks to the beautiful, sweet and innocent Charlie. One taste of her was all it took to bring him to his knees and falling for her which was the last thing he expected to happen.

I devoured this whole book in one day. I love how addiction is carefully and thoughtfully written in this book. Kai is such a great man, he has been dealt a rough hand and never believed he deserves better until he met Charlie. They both taught each other so much, the character development is so beautiful and the way their relationship unfolds is very hot. I absolutely loved this book and 100% recommend you read it 💫

I received an advance review copy and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Oh my goodness, I absolutely loved this book! If I hadn't been so tired most nights or busy, I'm sure I would have devoured it sooner. I was fortunate enough to not only read the first 2 ARCs of the Sable Point series but the 3rd as well. & I have to tell you, this having been my first Lauren Kiser series, I have NOT been disappointed. Her writing has been absolutely amazing! Every scene, every detail, has been phenomenal. & OMG those scenes!! Out of all 3 books, this one had me feeling the most. I even teared up at one point.

The way Charlie & Kai are drawn together just felt so natural. Despite the fact there was an age gap & they (mostly Kai) felt most people would think they shouldn't be together, they stuck it out. No matter how many times he tried to push her away. & even if it was in secret. I saw a lot of myself in Charlie. She is so relatable. Her shyness & awkwardness around men. But eventually came into her own, especially when it came to Kai. She herself was surprised by how vocal & open she was with him. Kai had a lot of baggage & trauma he needed to work through. Feeling he was undeserving of happiness. & yet he was pulled into Charlie's charm & beauty. He became addicted to her very quickly & couldn't stay away for too long.

I hope this review doesn't give too much away. I always try not to post spoilers, especially with new recently released books. I definitely recommend not only this book but the whole series so far. Yes, this book can be read as a stand-alone, but the books are interconnected, so characters from the previous books will be in this one. But you won't get confused by their backgrounds or stories.

I never wanted this book to end. From the moment I began reading Unearthed Dreams, I was down so bad. From the very first page, I was sucked into one of the most beautiful love stories to date.

Our MMC, Kai Callaghan, intrigued me from the moment we met him in Cherished Lands, so getting a whole book focused on Kai had me kicking my feet.

There were so many moments I just wanted to give Kai a big hug. He endured some pretty awful things in his past that left him so guarded, he felt like he didn’t deserve a future because of the choices he’d made.

There was a side the residents of Sable Point saw—and then there was the side that Charlie brought out of Kai. That part was HOT, romantic, and absolutely gone for his girl. I ate those moments up.

Our FMC, Charlotte “Charlie” Everton, might just be my favorite FMC ever. I’ve never related to a character so much in my life—it felt like I was looking in a mirror at times.

Charlie was a gifted writer who, at the beginning of the book, was armed with a manuscript and a whole lot of dreams. Watching her find what her heart truly desired while chasing those dreams—with the support of a hot bartender—was such a joy to read.

Kai and Charlie brought out the best in each other. They lit up the hidden parts of themselves, made each other feel brave, and gave each other the one thing they’d never truly had: love.

I can’t end this without saying how much I loved being back in Sable Point, with characters who feel like people I’ve known my whole life.

I can’t wait to return to Sable Point very soon.

ARC REVIEW thank you Lauren! So happy to be part of your ARC/Street team.
Spice Rate: 🌶 🌶🌶🥵

I’m so glad to be back at Sable Point for Kai and Charlie's story.🥳

Charlie, the baby of the Everton family, returns to Sable Point after finishing college, bringing with her a manuscript she’s dreamed of publishing a secret she hasn’t shared with her family. She’s scared of what they might think about her writing, but with Kai, she feels confident, especially because he’s willing to embrace its content.

Kai Callaghan, the bartender who’s older than Charlie and undeniably stunning, surprised me with how his story unfolded. He keeps people at arm’s length because of his past, yet when it comes to Charlie, all of that is forgotten no matter how hard he tries to keep his distance but the pull is strong between them.

For me, this is the only book so far that had me bawling my eyes out right from the start until the very end. The vulnerability, growth, and struggles of Kai and Charlie were written perfectly. I fear I got too attached to them, I felt sad reading the last page, but I’m also happy for Kai and Charlie. They both deserved the ending they got.

Kai and Charlie, you have my heart because of how beautiful your story is. (brb, I’ll just cry more while thinking about this book again.)

I can’t wait for other readers to dive into this book. Like Lauren said, “Grab your tissues!!!!” Keep that in mind, I literally had tissues next to me the whole time.😭

The characters were engaging and had great chemistry, though I do wish the emotional buildup had taken a bit more time early on. The male lead is a broody loner, weighed down by past grief and anger, and he’s hesitant to drag Charlie into the mess of his emotions. That internal struggle added some nice depth to his character.

What surprised me was how quickly the spice kicked in—he goes from guarded to pretty forward fast. I expected more hesitation considering his closed-off personality. Still, there was something endearing about how he embraced his prematurely gray hair at 32 and how gently he guided Charlie through their more intimate moments, especially during the spice lessons. It was sweet and thoughtful in its own way.

There’s a push-pull between wanting to protect her and being drawn to her sincerity and softness. Charlie’s love of books, open heart, and quiet strength made her a great match for him. They clicked well, though at times it felt like the spicy banter came on a little too strong too soon. Some readers will love that; I just would’ve liked a bit more slow burn. Thankfully, the last part of the book leans more into tenderness and emotional growth, which was lovely.

What really worked for me was seeing how she helped him open up, let go of his guilt, and realize he’s not the man he used to be. Their dynamic felt rewarding by the end—a quick, heartfelt read with a sweet connection, low angst, and just the right touch of healing romance.

Unearthed Dreams is a tender, heart-melting gem of a love story that proves even the most guarded hearts can find sanctuary in the quietest souls.

In this utterly charming small-town romance, we’re swept into the world of Kai—the older, brooding bartender haunted by a past he can’t quite outrun—and Charlie, the shy, book-loving post-grad whose quiet strength is often underestimated. With protective older brothers and a heart that aches for meaning, Charlie finds something she never expected behind the bar at Callaghan’s: someone who truly sees her.

Kai doesn’t just notice her—he reads her, listens to her, believes in her, especially after discovering the fantasy-romance novel she’s poured her soul into. He becomes her fiercest advocate, offering more than just tender glances—offering trust. And Charlie, with her patience and unwavering care, loves Kai in spite of (and perhaps because of) the weight he carries.

Their love isn’t loud, but it’s deep—a slow dance of healing, acceptance, and late-night confessions. With meddling neighbors, watchful siblings, and a town that knows everyone’s business, their romance feels both impossibly intimate and delightfully communal.

Perfect for readers craving vulnerability, emotional tension, and a hero whose heart is as guarded as it is golden. Kai and Charlie are meant to be in more ways than one!

A huge thank you to Lauren Kiser and Love Notes PR for the early copy!

Firstly I wish to thank Love Notes PR for allowing me to read this ARC! I absolutely loved this book and look forward to reading more works from Lauren Kiser! The writing style made this book really lovely and such a smooth read. The writing style made each time I picked up my phone to read, as though I was settling into a cozy reading spot. It was so easy to pick up where you left off and be immersed in the cute town of Sable Point. I am someone who loves the building of cute towns and how we readers end of loving the quirks and personalities of cute our main characters and fellow townspeople! I really hope we get to see more works following the cute characters or maybe even new townspeople 🤭

Transitioning slightly to focus more on the SPICE (heh we know I cannot resist) - it was SO GOOD!! I love the dynamic between Charlie and Kai - and let’s just say as someone who is very similar to Charlie when it comes to her love for books, writing, and let’s just say her experience - the scenes were so well written, steadily paced, and tasteful detailed and described!! Honestly the perfect balance of sweet and nice - and no third act breakup or unnecessary drama!!

I wish to also highlight how I really appreciated the attentive care taken to write about sensitive subjects and experiences of growing up without a parent, being a parentified child, substance abuse, and grief.

After reading Cherished Lands, book 2 in de Sable Point series, which I absolutely loved I knew I wanted to read the rest of the series! I'm a sucker for small-town / ranch like / family standalones, so I knew I was in for a treat!

This time we follow Charlie, who is Elliot's young sister (Book 2 was about Elliot). She just returned from college, and tries to figure out what do with her life. She has started writing a dragon fantasy book and would love to become a published writer.

But then she runs into Kai Callaghan, the owner of the bar, and there is a sudden attraction. However he is 10 years older, and has had a difficult past. It's definitely not the kind of guy her brothers want to see her with.

At first they try to deny their feelings, but that's a lost cause. They start sneaking around the backs of her family and friends and start to get to know each other. She learns that Kai has a troubled past, he is clean now, but also that he is a lot different than everybody thinks he is! He actually loves reading and she lets him read her manuscript. He helps her improve it and even contacts one of his friends in the book world.

When one of Charlie's brothers seems to spiral down the same path of addition, he is torn apart between running towards or running away from the first good thing in a long time.

Will their relationship survive turbulent pasts, and just as uncertain presents and futures?

Book Review (ARC)🍎🍻🌻:

Unearthed dreams by Lauren Kiser

Ratings: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Topics throughout the book are:
🍎 small town
🍻 forbidden romance
🌻 age gap
🍎 Dual POV’s
🍻 widower
🌻 grumpy x sunshine

Summary🍎🍻🌻:
“My hero is fictional. You’re real. And real is…messier. More complicated. But also more worth it.” “You’re not as complicated as you think you are..” “You just hide behind complications because feeling things scare you.” Kai Callighan doesn’t believe he deserves anything good—not after losing his first love and carrying the weight of a troubled past. Now running his late father-in-law’s bar in a small town, he’s convinced he’s not worthy of a second chance at love… especially not with sweet, 10-years-younger Charlotte Everton, fresh out of college. But opening his heart to her might be exactly what he needs—until tragedy threatens to take away the one person who brings him peace.

This gem of a small-town, age-gap romance is available now on KU & Amazon—and trust me, it’s a must-read. 🔥 The MMC teaching the FMC how to pleasure herself? Whew. Spicy and swoon-worthy.

This was my first book by Lauren and wow—chef’s💋. Her writing pulls you in from the first word and takes you on a rollercoaster of emotion. As a toddler mom, it was hard to put down, and every spare minute I was right back in it. Can’t wait to read more from you and add your books to my shelf as you are just spectacular!

Book 3 in the Sable Point series

🌸 Virgin FMC
📗 Widower MMC
🌸 Age gap
📗 Spicy lessons / inexperienced FMC
🌸 F*ck it moment
📗 Book within a book
🌸 He 💦 in his 👖
📗 Spicy mirror scene

My thoughts:
This was such a heartfelt AND spicy romance!! I was new to the Sable Point series and really enjoyed this story!! Charlie is the youngest of the Everton siblings, and she has been keeping her aspirations of becoming an author a secret. As a virgin who has never been kissed, the last thing she expects is her connection with Kai Callaghan, the grumpy bar owner who is 10 years older than her. Charlie and Kai have an undeniable connection despite Charlie’s age and lack of experience, and Kai was a seriously sexy teacher. I loved how he took his time and didn’t rush her into anything too quickly. Their spice was perfectly paced in a way that felt realistic to me. Lauren gave us spicy scenes right when I wanted them but didn’t take it too far too soon. Kai was swoooony with all my favorite lines (tell me to stop, f*ck it) and I found myself veryyy into the nickname pretty girl.

This book delved into some very emotional topics like grief and addiction, and I thought those moments were handled well with care. Kai and Charlie’s story will take you on an emotional journey, and I will definitely be reading the first two books of the Sable Point!

**ARC REVIEW***

This was such an easy and fast read for me—it hooked me right from the start with its cozy, small-town vibes and relatable characters. I really connected with the FMC and her struggle of feeling underestimated by her family, especially as the only girl in the family with dreams that she felt they might not take seriously.

And the MMC? The way he saw her passion, her talent, her heart—and supported her dreams made my heart melt. He believed in her when she's struggling to tell anyone about her dreams. The emotional layers in their relationship, especially how she saw him for who he really was beyond his past, made their connection feel so genuine. She was his second chance at everything and he was her first everything! 💖

The story flowed smoothly and had just enough tension to keep me invested. That twist at the end? Quick and intense—I honestly needed it to be fast because the MMC’s heartbreak crushed me. (That one line he never said when she woke up? It hurts!)

Gave it 4 stars because I was hoping to see how he DID IT and was soooo excited what he had planned but other than that, this is such a warm-cozy-fun read.

If you love cozy, small-town romance with an age gap, and just the right amount of emotion—definitely check this one out. It’s book 3 in an interconnected standalone series, but it reads well on its own.
