Not all growth feels like growth. Some of it feels like falling apart, standing still, or losing your way entirely — and this book is for those seasons.
You Were Always Even in the Dark is the third and most recent collection from Charlotte Freeman, bestselling author of Everything You'll Ever Need and This Was Meant to Find You. Where her earlier books focused on healing from heartbreak and reclaiming self-worth, this one speaks to something broader and, for many readers, even more the experience of being in a difficult chapter you can't quite name — a career crossroads, a lost sense of direction, a relationship or life path that no longer fits — and not knowing whether the changes happening to you are leading somewhere or just leading nowhere.
Freeman's answer, in her characteristically warm and direct voice, is that they are always leading somewhere. The dark seasons, the unexpected curveballs, the moments when you find yourself going backwards — these are not interruptions to your growth. They are the growth. Written in short, readable passages you can return to whenever you need them, this book covers trusting your own pace, releasing the pressure to have life figured out on someone else's timeline, giving yourself permission to change your mind, and recognizing your strength in the chapters where it feels most invisible.
This is a book for anyone who needed a reminder that they haven't fallen behind — they've been growing all along.

I read this at the exact time that I needed to. Navigating postpartum depression that has lingered over a year has been difficult but this was such a guiding force. I annotated the entire thing and I never do that. Such a good read.
This is an excellent book. It's a quick read, but full of inspirational quotes/sayings. I will keep it handy to pull out on "tough" days. Reading it today was exactly what I needed.
