Summer in the Adirondacks is all about socializing and activities. Dottie expects weeks of tennis, parties, and boating. What she does not expect is the mysterious stranger she meets down by the docks. He is older than the boys she's used to, mature where they are frivolous, and he always knows just what to say. In no time, Dottie is spending every evening down by the abandoned dock, talking to her new friend. But every word he speaks is a trap. He has secrets and motives she could never imagine. And the lessons he wants to teach her are far more intimate than swimming.
This wasn't for me. It's another period piece, circa Dirty Dancing. The FMC is a high school age girl. Yuck yuck yuck. It's supposed to be a sort of coming-of-age saga about this too young girl who feels like an outcast. She falls for a being who talks to a being who appears to be swimming at night.
From there, it appears to be a romance where she is seduced by this being. But the story really drags for being short. There's a ton of repetitive dialogue. The story reads out very circular which is also boring. The spice was OK. It was a virgin story which is my least favorite trope next to a surprise pregnancy. So there's that.
A naughty little read as our FMC Dottie finds comfort in her beastly new friend instead of easily falling into the crowd that her family has, and is now being pushed into a marriage that benifits her parents. Thankfully, she has a new teacher to help her learn about passion and how to use her body.
Well that was something. Kinda lost me in the beginning because it felt very childish and corny and by around 60% I was back in it. Pretty cute but also very odd? Like the romance was cute but the actual creature very odd to metaphorically have sex with.
The way I was invested in this… hmmmm I would have lowkey read a way longer story like this.. the build up was so good and the plot and the reasoning of why the characters were into eachother?? Yup there’s a reason I always find myself drawn to these like shorts by Adrian blue
