3.75⭐ rounded up.

Book 2 in the Blazers Hockey series ~ yes it's a stand-alone, but more enjoyable if read in order as Hope and Beck make frequent appearances in this installment.

Featuring ~ dual 1st person POV, sports romance, hockey ~ NHL, fake relationship, second chance, infertility, under 200 pages

Emily & Chase
They were meant to be, or so Chase thought, until Emily broke his heart when she broke up with him instead of moving to Pittsburgh together. Flash forward 8 years and they're back in each others lives. Chase needs a date for his brother's wedding and Emily needs an in to meet one of his friends, so they decide to fake date for a few months. We know how fake dating always turns out if you've read this trope before.

Emily starts to feel like part of the Reid family again as they welcome her with open arms. I really enjoyed everyone in Chase's family. Chase was so sweet and you could just feel his love for Emily through the pages. Their chemistry was on point.

Overall, I really, really liked this one, but I am very upset about the lack of communication that resulted in 8 years wasted. 8 years!! I wish there was a little more information on the infertility too. All ends well 5 years later, but that's an awfully long time to waste.

Next book will be about Derek and hopefully him getting his life together.

I really like this series! The characters are fun, real and, of course, there's hockey! I liked Chase and Emily's story, but it has that pesky miscommunication trope. I have a thing with that. I'm 100% behind people just talking and getting things out in the open. If Emily had just shared he issues with Chase from the get-go, this would have been a completely different story. But I get it, it makes the drama.

🏒🐈‍⬛You know this I understand. Emily is not making decision by herself or for chase. This guy really wholeheartedly want kids. Talks about it continuesly. I know it was his decision to make but in this case Emily's action doesn't border on overthinking.
🏒🐈‍⬛Usually I have to say this for male characters how they take advantage of hs feelings when they had no intention of sticking around. Emily is doing it here. You don't want to stick around but he's still in love with you. You can't expect him to have sex with you without attachment cause he's already attached and trying hard for a second chance constantly and it's not fair to him.
🏒🐈‍⬛Your heart? You're once again about to break his heart girl.
🏒🐈‍⬛Smut is not that important for me. I could wait until they sort out their situations. Sidestepping the plot just to include smut is a negative for me.
🏒🐈‍⬛Why would you gift a picture of you two together if you're not going to be together?
🏒🐈‍⬛Man... How long it's going to be like this?🙄 Her leading him on and him thinking he's making progress. I can't enjoy a book if I'm constantly annoyed with the main character.
🏒🐈‍⬛She dare act surprised. Saw that coming miiiilllles away.
🏒🐈‍⬛Deep dark secret of her🙄 dramatic much?
🏒🐈‍⬛She has such low opinion of him.....
🏒🐈‍⬛WAIT A FREAKING MINUTE!!!!!! Is she saying she's not fully infertile or however it works???? All those heartaches built on an assumption? ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!!!
🏒🐈‍⬛Twelve years.....Solved by one talk. Obviously. Damn!
🏒🐈‍⬛End thought - yeah it's a shit book.

Sports fake dating

Really hated how the infertility storyline was handled
First it was trying to be all mystery of why she broke up with him but it was pretty obvious
And then it fluctuates between can’t get pregnant and might not be be able to
Also if you love someone that much just grow the fuck up and talk to them about life changing medical things

Chase plays hockey for, The San Jose Blazers. He’s the assistant captain of the team, Beck Levesque is the captain. Eight years ago, when he is dumped by, Emily Clark. The funniest thing is she works for, the Blazers, as Hope Goodwin once did. Hope and, Emily are still best friends. Making it awkward because, Chase is best friends with, Beck. Although, Chase still has no idea why she dumped him, eight years ago. And, he really thinks it's more than the distance. Since at that time he had been picked up by, Pittsburgh.

They had been so good together. Chase has always hoped, they would find their way back home, to one another. Now, here they are and all she can do is avoid him at all costs. Which can make it awkward for everyone around them. In all honesty, she acts as if she hates me. He’s like shouldn’t it be him who feels that way? On this night the team had beaten, Vegas and were at Scrimmage’s celebrating Chase and Beck along with Hope and Emily.

They toast the team and, Hope and Beck are ready, to leave but it will leave, Emily behind. Emily says no worries, she has, the Uber app. But, Chase casually says, he will take her home. She protests at first, but then she surrenders. The ride home is, tense until they started talking about his family. She couldn't get enough. She doesn't have anyone, but her mother. Her mom left her years ago. The only difference now is she took off, with her latest boyfriend.

Now it's his moment of truth he asks, Emily, to go for a drink after the next game, just the two of them. Emily turns him down. On Thanksgiving, he lies to his family, to get out of having, to date, Tiffany, for his brother’s wedding. Emotionally rot with guilt, and desperate for help, Chase goes, to Emily, to ask for help. Black Friday it is. Unfortunately, she turns him down. She needs to land a big fish.

Come Monday morning, will Chase’s luck change? Now, it’s Emily who needs the help. She didn't land the big fish like she needed to do on, Friday. So, her boss told her, to land, 24 GenTech and get invited, to his charity holiday party. Reading a blog that is, listing off invitees, Chase’s name is on it. She needs, to negotiate a deal. A wedding date for a plus one, for the charity holiday party. Let the fun, begin.

This is a fun story of, two people who loved each other immensely, however, lacked in their communication skills. They could make love, and talk endlessly about the future, although omit their present troubles. The thing that bothers me is that when the pieces start, to add up, to what, Emily’s secret is, it's over. But, we never find out how, or why she found out and never told him.

Chase and Emily face off, but are both winners in the end.

I loved this second installment in the Blazers Hockey Romance series. Chase is so lovable, and how can you resist a man who loves cuddling a cute kitten? Emily discovers just how hard a task it is as she tries in vain to keep her distance from the man she never stopped loving.

Lisa Linwood takes a risk with Emily, but in my opinion it pays off. Some readers may question Emily’s decision to keep her infertility from Chase. But Linwood recognizes people are flawed and often make poor decision—for what they believe are the right motives. Thinking she is giving Chase the opportunity to find happiness in having the family he so desires, Emily is willing to sacrifice her own happiness. She doesn’t want him out of any obligation he might feel. So she decides it’s better to make him think she’s not interested so he can move on with his life. It’s the basis for the conflict of the story, and without it, we wouldn’t have had the chance to go on the journey of rediscovering their love with them. So I, for one, am glad Linwood played it as she did. I think it gives some of us who have made what could be considered stupid choices out of love hope that somehow, in the end, it will work out.

Speaking of risks, Linwood tackles the difficult subject of infertility with tact and sensitivity, which I appreciated.

As for the writing, I t’s top notch. I love how Linwood cleverly works in hockey terms very naturally.

I laughed out loud about Emily’s insistence on removing the Christmas tree ornaments from the bottom so they could be placed in the box first, leaving those at the top of the tree to be put away last. I can so relate to that.

The use of the jokes (which most of us call “dad” jokes) was a clever addition. And I think it perfectly illustrates to the reader and reminds Emily what a fantastic father Chase would be. It’s subtle (not the jokes, they’re pretty obvious) but what they represent and very cleverly used IMO.

All in all a great addition to the series. I’m really looking forward to Derek’s story. I love a hero who needs redemption—and Derek did demonstrate he has some good qualities. Looking forward to seeing more of them in his book.

Thanks Lisa for another great read.

In the second installment of the Blazers Hockey Romance series, Lisa Linwood tells the tale of two people in love who are about to embark on the next phase of their lives together when one of them receives news that will affect the rest of their lives. Doing what she believed was the right thing for the man she loves beyond measure, Emily Clark breaks off her relationship with Chase Reid instead of moving with him to another city, or telling him the reason why. Chase is about to start his professional hockey career but is broken by their split and over the years of their separation (eight (8): too long in my book), his feelings for Emily haven’t changed. Emily is now working in the sales department of Chase’s professional hockey team, and when he needs a date for his brother’s wedding, Emily agrees to “fake” date him and is received back into his family with open arms, something she has missed and loves. One thing leads to another, but I won’t tell you more of what happens, you have to read this book to find out. My only criticism (and it is really not a criticism, more of an "in a perfect world" when I read a novel) is that I wish Ms. Linwood would have shortened the drama around Emily’s decision and given more import to that reason when it is finally revealed. But, these are minor blips in an amazing novel. Lisa Linwood wrote another wonderful story about professional hockey, loving selflessly (to one’s detriment), and how to handle a second chance to make things right. Buy this book…!.

This is a second chance hockey romance that checked all the right boxes, but left me wanting a little more connection. Chase and Emily were dating in college and planned to move to Pittsburgh when he signed on with the Penguins, but Emily told him "no" and broke up with him. He never knew why, never forgot her, and now is skating for the San Jose Blazers, just to be near her and to try to win her back. After eight long years, Emily sees him and is still cold to him. He's kind enough to offer her a ride home and he practically has to pull teeth for her to respond. When he tells her about how his family has grown, Emily basically shuts him down. Within the first few chapters, there's already a sense of sadness permeating the pages. After having dinner with his family and talking about the upcoming wedding, it's clear that he's going to need a date if he doesn't want his mother to set him up. He goes to see Emily to see if she'd consider going on a fake date and her answer is no. At this point, I'm just about done with Emily. She can pretty much take her snot-nosed attitude and stuff it! Slowly, through flashbacks, their backstory is fleshed out and the reasons for their separation become clear, but that doesn't mean I agree with what Emily did or said. Chase and Emily had to find out if their New Year's Eve deadline on their fake dating scheme would simply stop or carry over into the New Year.

Emily and Chase dated in college and broke up when Emily got news she felt would too greatly impact their future. She, however, didn’t tell this news to Chase.

8 years later and they need each other’s help. Their fake relationship starts to feel not so fake, but the news Emily received still hasn’t changed.

I was waiting for this big reveal of the story of Emily’s news, but it never really came. It was simply thrown in to the middle of a chapter and we didn’t get much backstory or explanation about it.
I did appreciate that there wasn’t a quick fix, immediate HEA with their struggles. It wasn’t until the Epilogue and “5 years later” that we saw things wrap up.

I loved the chemistry between Emily and Chase, and seeing our friends Hope and Beck again!

Chase: Book 2 of Blazers Hockey Romance was such a sweet story. It had so many emotions but thankfully everything worked out in the end. Chase and Emily dated 8 years ago and he thought they would be together forever but when he got a Jon with Pittsburg she broke up with him. He never understood why. Now he needs her help but she knows she can’t lose her heart to him again, she’ll never recover. What will Chase do if he finds out her secret? The reason she broke his heart all those years go. Can love finally win? A great storyline and lovable characters. I would definitely recommend this book and the series.

I was excited to find out what history Chase and Emily had and was no disappointed so was thankful that both get into a situation requiring them to pretend to be an item once again. There are plenty of laughs, sadness, secrets and an attraction that you can only fight for so long but in order to love to flourish there can not be secrets and we see early on Emily has one and I kept hoping it wasn't what I thought it was as I knew it would be heartbreaking. This was a great second chance romance that leaves you with warm fuzzies as well as looking forward to the next book and I hope it's about Derek!.

This started out really good, but the further in I read, the more I wondered when Emily’s secret was going to be told. It was a big focus of the book and it felt like it was being drug out. The climax of this romance seemed to be abrupt and quickly resolved without really seeing it happening. It was confusing and left me wanting.
The fake relationship was a big win for me because it showed their chemistry is still there, even after eight years.

Eight years ago Emily had broke up with Chase and he thought it was due to him moving to Pitt for hockey. Now he was back in San Jose playing hockey with the Blazer to try to get back with her. Emily decide that she need to asked him to help her get the 24GenTech account and he agree with her being his date to his brother wedding. They become close again but can they make it pass hurt feeling and why she broke up with him. This is a great story about coming clean and following your heart.

Probably a 3.5 star read for me.
This was my first read from this author and I enjoyed it but didn't quite love it. The characters were appealing and the story flowed pretty well although I felt it took Emily a little too long to come clean with Chase. It was also a little odd that Hope didn't seem to know about their previous relationship (and Emily had been determined to keep her in the dark) but then accepted things with such little explanation. A pleasant diverting read though.

Great book in a sexy, steamy, hot hockey player's series.

Chase had loved Emily forever even after she broke his heart. Emily had always loved Chase but thought her secret would ruin their lives and cause more heartache. But when Chase got the chance to love her again, he knew he would do everything in his power to make her realize she meant everything to him even though she wasn't sure. Their happily ever after would be amazing.

This is an amazingly written story of Emily and Chase, a second chance story that will break your heart and mend it back together stronger.

Emily and Chase have been dating, just when he thought it was going to take the next step, Emily leaves. Eight years later they find themselves in the same place. When he needs a date, she can't help but accept but this plays on her heart.

Great story that takes you and your heart on a ride of ups and downs.

This was another enjoyable book in the Blazers Hockey Romance series. I didn't love it as much as book 1, as I found Emily's secret too drawn out, but I did really enjoy the deep feelings and chemistry between Emily and Chase. The happy ending was very quick, but wonderfully reinforced by a lovely epilogue, and a sweet bonus epilogue.

Loved Chase and the Blazers

The enjoyable banter of the Blazers continue and Chase does not disappoint. The issue is the constant reminder by Emily that time is running out, can’t last, isn’t right for chase, etc. over and over and over. Literally every couple pages . We get it.

Just too much and could have been so much better. Who doesn’t love a guy who lives cats and babies?

Emily and Chase have a complicated history. She broke his heart when she walked away from their relationship. Reunited years later, and the spark is still as intense. Both are in need of a fake date so they start a fake relationship. Feelings deepen and complicate things. What happens when they no longer need to fake their relationship?

This is the second book in the Blazer series. I truly loved this book. The cutest second chance romance. This book pulled strongly on my heart strings because I personally have a lot in common with the FMC.

Chase is one extremely Yummy MMC and I truly loved watching this second chance, fake dating romance unfold.

This one is an absolute must read even if you don't love hockey.
