With the majority of Americans now attempting to eat healthier and an estimated million of them each year in the past decade adopting vegetarian or semi-vegetarian diets, The Great Life Diet is ready to enter the cultural mainstream.
At the forefront of this American revolution in eating since 1969 has been health counselor and teacher Denny Waxman, founder of the Strengthening Health Institute and author of The Great Life Diet, which distills the wisdom of his thirty-five years of experience into a clear guide to a better, healthier, longer life. Essentially, Waxman's method weds a diet of whole grains, beans, vegetables, and soups to a lifestyle that nourishes the mind and the spirit.
In seven steps, The Great Life Diet offers a balanced and orderly approach to an -active, fulfilling daily life. The aim always is to strengthen health, however good or ill. Indeed, thousands of people, their ailments ranging widely from the common cold to chronic fatigue to heart disease and even to "incurable" cancers, have been helped, often dramatically, by espousing the dietary and lifestyle practices described in Waxman's instructive guide.
With sound sense and flexible principles, this diet extends to its readers a means both to better their health and to significantly enhance the joy in their daily lives.
Denny Waxman has been actively involved in the fields of health and nutrition since 1969. Over the years, he has counseled thousands of people with a vast array of health issues. Through his pioneering approach to lifestyle and diet, Waxman continues to help individuals regain their spirit and energy. He lives in Philadelphia, where he runs the Strengthening Health Institute.
This is a great book about eating healthy. Not just a diet, but a lifestyle change. The author Denny Waxman believes that if someone follows his simple 7 step plan they will have a healthy body as well as life. Steps: 1) Take Time for Your Meals Everyday 2) Set Your Daily Schedule 3) Eat Two or Three Balanced Meals Everyday 4) Make Your Daily Life Active 5) Create a More Natural Environment 6) Make Your Macrobiotic Practice Work and lastly... 7) Cultivate the Spirit of Health.
With these simple steps I believe that Waxman will be very well known in the diet industry we live in. Everyday we hear of a new fad diet which promises results. Waxman's plan looks like it will work if you give it a try. Pick up this book and look/ feel better about yourself.
This is an excellent and easy to read explanation of the macrobiotic practice. Waxman goes into more detail about the reasons behind the practice, which makes this a perfect pairing with Kushi's introductory book "The Macrobiotic Way". This is not a book with a lot of recipes, so don't come to it looking for that.
I am not well versed in macrobiotics and had hoped this book would be a good resource on that realm. It does give many worthy lifestyle options. I had hoped for more recipes also.
Thorough yet easily understandable introduction to macrobiotics
This book, although not overlong, clearly explains exactly what 'macrobiotic' means. As with many others, I have long had a vague awareness of this term but haven't known exactly what it entailed, and what benefits it can bring.
The author explains not only the kinds of foods, but the whole 'lifestyle' which goes to make up the macrobiotic way of life (it can't really be called a diet as such). Most interesting, and it certainly seems worth the effort - and let's face it, it is a big change for most - to try this. Yes, it will be difficult to completely change one's way of eating, but Waxman explains how to adapt slowly by adding new foods gradually. I'm definitely going to try these changes.
A terrific introduction to the principles of macrobiotics. (Macrobiotic means "large or great life," hence the title.) A must-read if you want to know more about being macro.
