I’m going to be honest, I didn’t love the ending like I expected to, and some things were left unsaid or lacked conclusion, I hated the fact that rei has to take care of (or at least they imply it to us) endeavor (her abuser) why couldn’t they leave him alone and lock him up in a hospital like he did to rei?? Dabi and toga died, spinner’s in jail and society didn’t even get the chance to know about how the HPSC groomed Keigo, everyone still calls him Hawks even though he no longer has his quirk and that’s the name the HPSC gave to him (snatching him from his identity). I didn’t love Izuku becoming a teacher at U.A. but I didn’t hate it either, I was like ok I’ll take it, it was the least he could become, what I hated was the fact that the civilians just seemed to forget (or not know) that because of him the war came to an end, there wasn’t any deku praise, no deku statues or whatsoever. He became quirkless again and was forced to see how all of his friends achieved the dream. The final panels were the thing that carried the end for me, Katsuki being the heart of the fundation for Izuku’s suit made so much sense because the manga started with Katsuki telling Izuku he couldn’t be a hero because of him being quirkless and ended with Katsuki reaching out his hand to Izuku for them to keep being heroes together (for the rest of their lives!!) even though Izuku no longer has OFA. I love my boys bkdk so much and that scene was what got to me. (I’m also mad we got robbed of a bkdk holding hands scene bc we had the perfect set up) I’m rating it this high because I’ve been with MHA for 3 years now and it really means a lot to me, the ending wasn’t the best but it did the job given that we only had 5 chapters to wrap it up (it should’ve been longer imo), thanks bnha for everything I’ll keep the characters and their stories close to my heart for a long long time❤️
23/12/24 edit. fuck the five-star rating, that epilogue was so ass and useless

and finally the end , For me , this series was the first manga series I started following , so this ending was special because of my memories with these characters. And now it's time to say goodbye :)
I remember starting this series ten years ago back when I was a teenager myself and following it ever since. Thank you for this story, Horikoshi.
That being said, I'm still disappointed with the way things ended. Don't get me wrong, I'm not disappointed with the epilogue itself, I've been disappointed with the series long before we reached the point of climax. Character arcs felt rushed or ignored entirely, things were progressing entirely too fast with little consequence, and that all culminated into an ending that in my opinion was nice, but ultimately undeserved and honestly out of left field.
**Spoilers for the entire series up ahead!**
My biggest gripe had always been that the stakes were way too high all the time and that hindered a lot of character growth. You mean to tell me that these kids in 1-A, freshmen, can hold their own against villains far better than any other grade simply because *checks notes* they've had more hands-on experience? I get that part of the point was to highlight the fact that the class was entirely too young to be dealing with everything that they have dealt with but do you mean to tell me that everything that they have gone through took place in the span of a single school year? I'm sorry but I'm calling bullshit. These characters have gone through YEARS of trauma and fighting within a single school year and I'm just supposed to accept that they're able to fight against the villain squad and ALL come out alive? I'm not saying that I want to see a bunch of children die but to have seasoned heroes fall like flies compared to these young and inexperienced kids who have had less than a couple of months of training who just kinda...win? The plot armor is either incredibly thick or these consequences weren't very well thought out. Which brings up my next big gripe: the pacing. This entire series takes place within the span of a single school year. Midoriya and the class 1-A take on the entire villain squad AND AFO, a villain that not even All-Might IN HIS PRIME could fully beat...and win? I'm not just saying that this doesn't feel possible, I'm saying that this feels dumb and I wish that the lead-up to this explosive climax could have taken place by the time they were actual seniors/third-years in the UA. Not only that but there were a lot of glaring plot points and characters that just felt underused and mishandled. I'm not even going to mention Midoriya's dad because we all know about that, but what about class 1-B? What about the different hero schools like Shiketsu or Ketsubutsu? I just feel like if you break down the timeline of events of the things that happen it's incredibly unrealistic and takes away from the story.
At the end of the day, I'm glad that the series concluded but at the same time, I also feel like this wasn't how Horikoshi wanted to end the series but he didn't have anywhere else to go/anywhere else he wanted to take the series. Again, I thank Horikoshi for the fond memories and amazing arcs that he took the series in but I can't help but look back at it with a sense of disappointment.
I was a little concerned because I’d heard (minimally in order to avoid spoilers) many people didn’t like the ending, but I honestly don’t know what they were drinking because this was everything I’d hoped for and more.
The wrap up of the battle and where they went from there, the character arcs, the theme of the whole series, seeing them all as adults…it was perfect; utterly, completely perfect. Did I wish to see them fighting evil as adults? Of course, but they could always make another movie about that (hint, hint) and I’d be more then happy to watch it until the disc falls apart, but what we did get was satisfying—less is more, right?
Deku is and always will be my favorite superhero ever now and seeing him grow was such an honor that has inspired me more then I can put into words. Everyone from hero to villain and everyone in between have given me such inspiration, hope, and joy and I can’t thank the mangaka enough for all the hard work and love he poured into this series because it has been such a gift to me and will always remain so. Also the scene with the abused kid and the granny taking his hand? I cried and cry every time I think about or read it, it was so beautiful and showed just how much Deku and the others had changed everything for the better.
And if you’re like me and was hoping for some kind of outright confirmation of a certain romantic ship yet thinking you wouldn’t get it…there is something. I won’t say anymore, but it’s so sweet and perfect and everything I wanted—I couldn’t stop grinning over it actually, heehee. 😍🥰
I love this series so much and while I’m sad it’s over, I’m excited to relive it all over again in the upcoming final season of the anime and of course to reread all the volumes. Go beyond, everyone. Plus ultra!
Violence: injuries and blood (PG-PG-13/R); fighting with weapons, superpowers, and hand to hand (PG-PG-13/R); a man explodes (PG-13); a mention of how a boy was locked in a dark basement by his family and his mouth was sewn shut (none of this is shown, only the threads hanging on his face—PG-13)
Sexual: a teen guy is a pervert; a girl’s shirt opens in the front all the way down to her stomach; shirtless guys; girls are called chicks
Other: superheroes/supervillains/superpowers; death and grief; PTSD
I’m so happy I stumbled into this anime with zero expectations and then continued with the manga to fall in love with this story. It was fun, funny, sweet and heartbreaking all in one. I adore these kids and loved seeing them get to where they are now.
I won't spoil the ending for those who haven't read it, but I'm very pleased with how this wrapped up. Love the time jump to show how things ended up with various characters, but wanted to see Deku become the next mentor in passing on One-For-All. Always room for more stories. Will enjoy watching all this unfold via the anime, which I need to catch up on.
Strong recommend. Excellent shonen that will be remembered for years to come.
I genuinely can't believe it's over. I've been a fan of this for almost a decade now and it just feels like the end of an era for me. I cannot wait to actually watch this entire arc animated (I'm waiting for it to be finished before I watch it) I know I will sob even more as I watch it.
I have my criticisms of my hero academia BUT overall I think this story is genuinely amazing. I love how everything ties together and I love the conclusion. the final battles were great and I absolutely adore how every single character we met, no matter if they were just one panel, played a role. to me, it really feels like the society within the story is growing and evolving as a result of the events and that fills me with joy. I think my hero academia will remain one of my favourite pieces of media forever. it really has a special place in my heart!
it makes me so emotional seeing shoto so genuinely happy. shoto todoroki is one of my favourite characters ever, I cannot explain to you how emotionally attached to him I am. so seeing him not only succeed as a hero on his own terms and outside of the shadow his father cast over him but also pursuing more things that make him happy (that also relate back to connecting with toya) genuinely makes my heart so full
and bakugo!!! another favourite of mine though not quite as high ranking as shoto. his character development is almost on par with zuko from ATLA for me. I know he was striving to be number 1 but I really like that he’s not because he’s still got his attitude. it feels right and he seems happy where he is and not at all resentful so I think it’s a perfect conclusion for him that really represents his growth
ochaco and hawks taking strides towards improving society and saving those who may have gone unseen in the past is just perfect. I know a lot of people didn’t like this conclusion for hawks but as a big hawks fan I love it. he’s now in control of the system that used and abused him and he’s not taking that for granted. and ochaco sticking to her ‘who protects the heroes’ ideal is wonderful too especially because it feels like a great conclusion for toga too
I can understand criticisms of the ending and just because I like it, doesn’t mean others have to as well but honestly I can’t think of a better conclusion for the league of villains than their actions inspiring change to avoid others being treated like they did
