Join the journey of the mute with her Sinner by reading this Story.
I write the kind of love stories that keep you up at night not because they’re sweet, but because they scare you a little.
My debut novel, The Sinner of Mute, is about a girl who never speaks and the man who takes everything anyway. It’s dark. It’s intense. And if you’ve ever rooted for the villain just because he loved too hard (or too wrong), you’ll probably understand why I wrote it.
The premise sounds very intriguing, but the book is poorly written and edited. Misspelled words, improper grammar and terrible sentence structure. Also zero depth to the characters. Starting off by him saying “I make them feel like they have a choice,” and then approximately 3 sentences into a convo saying he had lost his patience.
I didn’t make it past 1/3 of the way through because I couldn’t handle it anymore.
This book is very dark…like, check the trigger warnings first kind of dark.
The Sinner of M leans heavily into psychological tension, power, and control, with a male lead who is completely unhinged in the most chilling way. Lucien is cold, calculated, and honestly terrifying at times, while Sorina pulls you in with her quiet strength and vulnerability. Their dynamic is intense, uncomfortable, and impossible to ignore.
The writing is vivid and atmospheric, and the story doesn’t hold back when it comes to heavy themes. It’s not a soft romance…it’s gritty, emotional, and meant to make you feel a little unsettled.
Definitely not for everyone, but if you like dark, morally gray characters and high-stakes tension, this will hook you.
Overall: haunting, intense, and slightly unhinged in the best way.
She was born to survive in silence. He was built to turn love into possession.
Sorina moves through the world like someone taught to take up as little space as possible, until Lucien sees her and decides silence isn’t protection at all. He doesn’t ask for trust, and he doesn’t offer safety. What begins as fear and forced closeness turns into captivity, obsession, and a marriage shaped by control, punishment, and desire that feels as threatening as it does intimate.
As Sorina fights to hold onto herself, Lucien keeps tightening his grip, drawn not only to her body but to the part of her that still resists him. The deeper she’s pulled into his world of wealth, cruelty, and psychological pressure, the more their connection shifts into something darker and harder to untangle. Fear, hunger, and attachment start bleeding into each other until neither of them can keep distance from what’s growing between them.
Sorina starts as fragile on the surface but quietly fierce underneath, and her arc is about surviving what should break her without letting it erase who she is. Lucien begins as pure possession and elegant menace, yet his fixation slowly exposes need, dependency, and a warped vulnerability he can’t master the way he masters everything else. Their relationship evolves from coercion and captivity into a brutal, high-heat bond shaped by fear, obsession, resistance, and emotional entanglement, where intimacy becomes another battleground and also the thing that traps them both.
A dark, intense, ultra-steamy mafia romance where obsession, captivity, and coercive control twist love into something brutal, addictive, and deeply destabilizing. It’s about survival, resistance, and the fight to hold onto your identity when fear, desire, power, and emotional dependence become impossible to separate.
The Elevator Pitch: A silent young woman is pulled into the orbit of a man who treats love like possession and tenderness like a weakness he can’t afford. What begins as captivity turns into a dark, volatile bond where fear, hunger, and defiance become impossible to separate. Beneath the wealth, violence, and control is a brutal struggle over who will be consumed, who will endure, and what kind of intimacy can survive inside ruin.
The only reason I didn't dnf this book is because I got it for free in exchange for an honest review. There really wasn't any plot to the story other than the mmc being possessive and him occasionally telling his men to burn down people's warehouses to send a message. The post that the author made that pulled me in to want to arc read this talked about how dark and fucked up the content was, which is totally my jam, but I was very let down by that. The torture scenes were very minimal and not well written so they weren't very impactful. Overall the writing in general could use a lot of work. There were many phrases/sentences that were reused multiple times throughout the book. At 20% I was already so tired with reading about the mmc's snake tattoo. There were a lot of spelling, grammatical, and formatting issues throughout the entire book The only thing that kept me even remotely interested in the book was seeing the mmc interact with Dominic, and the occasional look we got at him being vulnerable
I have finished this book, I think it’s is poorly formatted and that really made the reading experience difficult for me. I plan on rereading it again but trying to ignore how it feels less like a novel.
What an amazing and unique dark mafia romance. I fell in love with this from the very beginning. It pulls you and keeps you turning the pages. I was so invested in this one. The writing was beautifully done. Amazing depth that really intrigued me throughout. This is a must read for sure.
This is an awesome and well written very dark romance. I love that the heroine is mute. That’s a twist I haven’t read before. The MMC is unhinged, red flags flying around everywhere but I absolutely loved it!
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of The Sinner of Mute, and let me tell you, this is not a story for the faint of heart. If you are looking for a "cuddly" billionaire romance, keep walking. This is a gritty, psychological dark romance that pushes boundaries and explores the darkest corners of obsession.
The Plot & Characters The story follows Sorina, a mute nomadic girl who has spent her life trying to remain invisible. Her silence, which she once viewed as a shield, becomes an invitation for Lucien Thorne. Lucien is the definition of a "morally gray" (actually, mostly just "dark") MMC. He is a billionaire with no interest in being a hero; he doesn't want to save Sorina—he wants to possess her completely. The tension is high as Sorina finds herself trapped in a "golden prison" through a forced marriage forged in "silk and blood."
Why I Liked It Atmospheric Writing: The author does a fantastic job of weaving cultural details into the narrative, making the world feel lived-in and authentic despite the heavy themes. The "Dark" in Dark Romance: It stays true to its warnings. Lucien is unapologetically cruel and possessive, and the stakes feel genuinely dangerous for Sorina. Emotional Depth: Despite the "villainous" nature of the lead, the story is incredibly emotional. It starts very heavy and dark, but as some other readers have noted, it eventually "eases up" enough to let you breathe, leading toward a guaranteed (albeit dark) HEA.
What to Expect (Tropes & Content) Mute Heroine: Watching Sorina navigate her world without a voice adds a unique layer of vulnerability and strength. Extreme Obsession: This is high-level "you belong to me" energy. Forced Marriage & Captive-to-Lover: Classic dark romance tropes executed with a very gritty edge.
Final Verdict The Sinner of Mute is a haunting, intense read about a broken soul being pushed to the brink. While the darkness was hard to read at times, the payoff and the intricate cultural layers kept me powering through. If you love a true villainous MMC and a story that doesn't pull its punches, you’ll want to pick this one up.

This is not a light read as the characters actions can potentially upset but that’s what the trigger warnings are for. Some current misspelled words and things tend to be a little confusing so a little harder of a read than I’m used to.

I received an ARC of The Sinner of Mute by Maria Rahaman, and this was a dark, intense read that definitely won’t be for everyone, in the best way.
What stood out to me most was the mute heroine. The way her emotions were conveyed without dialogue was incredibly compelling and added such a unique, haunting layer to the story. Her silence felt powerful rather than limiting, which made her perspective especially engaging.
This is a very dark romance that leans heavily into obsession, control, and morally gray characters. The emotional tension is strong throughout, and I found myself completely pulled into the intensity of the relationship.
Overall, The Sinner of Mute is a gripping and atmospheric read that fans of darker romance will really enjoy. If you love boundary pushing stories with high emotional stakes, this one is definitely worth checking out.

Perhaps it was fate that led me here, still haunted by the echoes of Maria’s Watch Me. I thought I was prepared, numbed, even, to her brutality and violence laid bare on the page. I was wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for Lucien. From the moment his gaze fell on Sorina, he wanted to own her - mind, body and soul. He loved things; he loved to hunt them, cage them and shatter them, just to watch the pieces fall. And Sorina… she was something exquisite to ruin. What begins as shock slowly curdles into something far worse: a creeping numbness, a quiet horror that seeps into your bones. Because Lucien doesn’t just break her—he orchestrates it piece by piece. He holds her entire world in his hands like a fragile thing he can crush at will. If she runs, her family suffers. If she stays, she suffers. There is no escape, only different shades of destruction. The true horror isn’t always physical; it’s the leash he keeps tightened around her mind. The way her family’s fate dangles over her, a constant, suffocating threat. And Sorina, already silenced by her muteness, feels even more trapped. Her prison not just built of walls, but of silence, fear, and inevitability. And yet… she endures. There’s something almost unbearable in witnessing that kind of resilience. A quiet, stubborn flame that refuses to die, even as everything around it is smothered. But that spark? It doesn’t save her. It provokes Lucien and makes him tighten his grip, drawing the chains closer, harder, until breathing itself feels like defiance. What’s most disturbing is how the lines begin to blur. Fear, pain, isolation twist together until they resemble something else. Something dangerously close to attachment. Because when cruelty is the only constant, it starts to feel like stability. Twisted. Unnatural. And yet… inevitable. Yet, that attachment can also be a double-edged sword. Lucien, a man carved from cold cruelty and brutal possessiveness begins to shift too—not toward redemption but deeper entanglement. Ways to keep Sorina close and tied to his side. And what more binding tether is there than a child? Even deep into the story, I found myself questioning everything, wondering if something so broken, so violently warped, could ever reach towards a happy ending. The glimpses of vulnerability only made it worse, like cracks in something that should never have been humanized at all. This is the kind of book that doesn’t just pull you in, it drags you under. You read it with a knot in your chest, unable to look away even when every instinct tells you to. It leaves you hollowed out, wrung dry, and quietly unsettled. It is brutal. It is suffocating. It is utterly consuming. And yet… impossible to put down. That said, much like the previous book, it desperately needs editing with the same rough edges, the same distracting issues. But buried beneath that is something razor-sharp and unforgettable. With refinement, this could easily be a five-star descent into darkness. This was an advanced reader copy from the author. It will contain some spoilers.
I received this book a week ago and it has been a good read but also hard for me to read. There are a lot of grammar problems in the book and there are also some times when they repeat parts of the story again. There is also a lot of times where they repeat the same line about his sleeve being pulled up and showing the snake on his arm. With all of the grammar issues, it took me a little bit to decipher what was being said in the sentence. The author also added stars all over the Kindle version of the book and I feel that it made it harder to read. There could have been a little more organization to the placement on those for a digital copy. It may look fine in the actual book.
As far as the story. I did read another's review on the book just to see how they felt and they mentioned that it was awful that he just expected forgiveness from Sorina. This book is about a man named Lucien who is part of the Mafia. Growing up, he didn't have a good upbringing with his parents and his mom dying when he was young. Because of this he is a very cold and controlling person. He sees a dancer in the city and decides that he wants to own her and make her his. Sorina is a dancer, who is deaf, and lives in a caravan with her sister and grandma.
Lucien shows up with bribes for Sorina's grandmother and sister and ultimately threatens them in order for them to let him have Sorina. Once they are married, he controls everything with her. He basically turns her into a prisoner. When she does try to escape, he hurts her, like within an inch of her life at some points. He cuts open her foot and lets it fester with infection until she goes unconscious and then he finally treats her. In the book she goes through a lot of abuse at Lucien's hands.
She eventually gets pregnant and loses the first baby. They then have a healthy boy and she becomes the best mother. You slowly start to see Lucien loosen up with the baby especially and learning to let walls down. He slowly starts realizing that he doesn't want to be the controlling and abusive husband and wants the carefree Sorina that he sees when she is with their son. He apologizes multiple times and admits that he was wrong and asks her to help him fix how he acts with her.
Even though this is an awful way for her to be treated, Sorina sees a lot emerge from him once their son is born. She sees the good of Lucien coming out. She doesn't really accept the apology but she does love him once he shows his caring side. Where I don't condone abuse in a relationship EVER, I can see why the author showed that this scary mob boss can learn to care for something other than control and possession.

Thank you to the author, Maria Rahaman, for providing me with an ARC of The Sinner of Mute.
I want to start off by saying that I was immediately drawn in by the premise of this story – it’s compelling, dark, and clearly has a lot of potential. There are moments where the writing shines, particular in more detailed scenes like the FMC’s escape attempt, which was vividly described alongside the planning that went into it. You felt the desperation and the determination despite the margin for success being abysmal at best.
I can appreciate how challenging it can be to capture everything within the trigger warnings. That being said, I would encourage the author to expand them in future additions. More specifically around the non-consensual sexual content (particularly clarifying dynamics involved) would be helpful for readers, as well as including the intentional starvation of animals. The intentional harm of animals is often more distressing for me than anything you can typically do to humans in books.
I made the decision to DNF around the 25% mark. While I remained interested in the core idea, I struggled to stay fully immersed due to the frequent editing issues, which repeatedly pulled me out of the story. Beyond that, I found it difficult to stay engaged because I wasn’t quite sure what the story was building toward at this stage – there didn’t feel like there was a clear narrative direction or goal anchoring the plot.
From a character perspective, I found the FMC’s motivations understandable in theory – particularly her belief that staying and surviving protects her sister and nomad family – but at times this felt a bit surface-level. I think exploring her internal processing more deeply would add significant emotional weight. For example, how she copes psychologically with her situation whether through dissociation, retreating into memories, or emotional shutdown, could really enhance both her character and overall impact of the story.
I also want to note that I previously read “Watch Me” and really enjoyed it. While it had some similar editing concerns, the pacing and narrative drive made it much easier to stay engaged, and I’m definitely interested in continuing that series.
Overall, while this book wasn’t the right fit for me at this time, I do think that the story has strong potential with further development.

As a reader of dark romance, this book absolutely fits the genre. Without spoiling the story, there is a lot of supremely messed up stuff that the MMC puts the FMC through intentionally to try to break her defiance after basically abducting from her family and thrusting her into a whole new culture. There is a LOT going on in the story, so much that I had to pause halfway through and really take a moment to reflect on just how much plot and time lapsing happened in just the first half, and it felt like there weren’t very great (or any, in some cases) transitions between scenes. It was confusing at times when a scene would happen in one location and then jump to another almost immediately. This just leads into the most evident critique I could make of this story: there needs to be some major editing before this is ready for publication, in my opinion. Like the title of this review suggests, the story has great bones, especially for the dark romance lovers out there (like myself 🙋♀️), but the execution could be so much better. A lot of the time, the writing feels like it’s either been translated from another language or written by someone whose first language is not English. While this obviously isn’t something to fault (go those who know more than one language because I sure as heck am not smart enough for that!), it’s still very distracting from the story and leads to those moments of confusion where I’m not sure that a new scene has started or I’m not sure if they’re even in the same room as before, etc. Regardless of the language mistakes, Rahaman’s imagery is phenomenal; she describes smells and scenery with really vivid imagery, and I love when a writer can really create a visual in my mind with well-done descriptions. Along with this, it is evident that the author understands the Romani and Mexican cultures, and I love that Sorina’s Romani roots were not just a quirky afterthought for her culture.
Overall, I devoured the romance in this story, unashamedly. The story really is as dark as the author suggests it is, though I enjoyed it. The only thing that really detracted from it was the mechanics and writing errors. Hopefully Rahaman can consult with an editor before publication!
The Sinner of Mute is one of those books that pulls you in quietly at first and then refuses to let go. I’d give it a solid 4 stars because while it’s not perfect, it absolutely delivers on atmosphere, emotion, and that slow-burn intensity that keeps you turning pages way past a reasonable bedtime.
The strongest part of the book is its mood. There’s this heavy, almost suffocating tension woven through the story that fits perfectly with the setting and characters. It feels gritty and raw without being overdone, and the author does a great job of making everything feel just slightly off in a way that keeps you on edge. You’re constantly waiting for something to snap, and when it does, it hits.
The characters are another highlight. They’re flawed in a way that feels real, not manufactured. The main character especially carries a lot of emotional weight, and you can feel that in every decision they make. There were moments where I was frustrated with them, but not in a bad way—it felt intentional, like you’re supposed to wrestle with their choices. The relationships are messy, complicated, and sometimes uncomfortable, which honestly made them more believable.
That said, the pacing isn’t always perfect. The middle drags just a little, and there are sections where it feels like the story is circling itself instead of moving forward. It’s not enough to ruin the experience, but it does slow the momentum at times. I also found myself wanting just a bit more clarity in certain plot points—some things felt slightly underexplained or rushed toward the end.
But even with those flaws, the emotional payoff is worth it. The ending doesn’t tie everything up neatly, which actually works in its favor. It leaves you thinking about the characters and their choices long after you’ve finished, and that’s always a sign of a strong story.
Overall, The Sinner of Mute is dark, immersive, and emotionally charged. If you like stories that lean into flawed characters, heavy atmosphere, and a touch of chaos, this one is definitely worth picking up.
This book is an intense, unflinching plunge into obsession, captivity, and psychological unraveling. It follows Sorina, a fiercely spirited Romani dancer whose entire world is ripped away when she’s forced into the orbit of Lucien — a man who is equal parts terrifying, magnetic, and violently unhinged. The story doesn’t pretend to be a romance; it’s a descent. It’s about power, control, trauma, and the way two people can become entangled in something toxic, consuming, and impossible to look away from. The atmosphere is rich, the emotions are raw, and the tension never lets up. If you love dark romance that actually commits to being dark, this book delivers that in full force. As a reader who gravitates toward morally black characters and psychological intensity, I appreciated how immersive and relentless the narrative felt. It’s the kind of book that leaves you thinking about the characters long after you close it — even when you’re not sure you should be thinking about them.
What I Loved as a Dark Romance Reader • The emotional intensity is constant — no filler, no softening, just full immersion. • The worldbuilding around Sorina’s culture and Lucien’s criminal world adds depth. • The dynamic between them is disturbing but compelling in the way dark romance readers understand. • The writing leans heavily into sensory detail, which makes the atmosphere feel alive.
Some scenes repeat the same emotional beats or descriptive patterns, so tightening those moments would make the pacing even stronger. Also, keeping the POV consistent would help the emotional impact land more cleanly, especially in the most intense scenes.

I am going to be very honest with my review as first off all I don't write reviews but as I got free book in exchange for review so I am writing my honest review . The first half of this book gave me chills and when I say this I am not exaggerating.the torture that fmc got from MMC is just fucking terrifying.and i can't understand how was she able to forgive him at last just because he felt remorse for what he did to fmc .
I love sorina to the moon and back and how fucking strong she was to handle it all because let's be honest we wouldn't be able to handle what torture she has to go through on hands of mmc and still came out stong form this
Just to give readers an eye opening this book contains rape and cheating and I don't fucking care what is written in warning section and what is justified, just because MMC don't engage in real sex with other women ,I can't express it enough that I hated MMC through out the whole book even if author did try to make his redemption arc worth it ,it's totally not worth it .
So if your comfortable in reading these things you are welcome to read this book
I only finished these book because there is a saying that curiosity kills the cat and in this case the cat is me .
No hate for author it's just my honest review And advice to make a dark romance book adding rape is not necessary and adding it as non-con is definitely not same as rape .
Overall book is just I don't have words for it and I am giving it 2 star for fmc and writing the book was written beautifully
I did receive a free copy of this book as an ARC The book itself has a solid idea. Like the base of it. But in my opinion the execution was really lacking.
The book changed pov multiple times without telling you. Another pass with an editor is definitely needed. There were some misspellings and weird grammar in some places. The weird chapter art that didn't make sense because it wasn't always at the start or end of the chapter sometimes it seemed like it was just thrown in randomly but there could have been a formatting error, I noticed a few times about repeated scenes like it was stopped and picked up again or maybe copied and pasted on accident, multiple times where there were discrepancies with facts especially when the kid came in, lots of time jumps or flash backs with no context or information you just had to piece it together that months happened or it would be dropped casually, the mmc is supposed to be dark and I get that but you have no idea why he's doing what he's doing in the first place and then he has a total 180 at the end for no reason it seems like he definitely has potential but needs to be reworked, the mfc is supposed to be mute but she still someone is murmuring a lot and apparently signing when it seems impossible.
I think it's a solid idea but it's not ready and needs to be fixed.

If I'd known this was a romance with a trafficker for a MMC I never would've read it. This is a very dark book with lots of TW. Human trafficking happens kind of in the background, torture of the FMC by MMC, lots of killing, a miscarriage, dub/non con. The beginning between the FMC & MMC is not pretty.
The MMC is a mafia/kingpin/organized crime lord who becomes obsessed with a gypsy dancer. He's been brought up a certain way so of course he tries to use fear & pain to keep the FMC compliant. It was rough reading what he puts her through.
Towards the end the MMC becomes a bit softer for her but not by too much & it's only for her. The majority of the book is basically how their relationship develops & how their relationship changes the MMC to become softer. He's extremely O.T.T. j/p/p (which i loved). There's lots of details about what he does as a kingpin & how ruthless he is. Not much plot outside of the 2 characters tho. The plot is the the relationship between them.
Overall I liked how jpp OTT the MMC is. I do not like MMCs tho who torture their FMCs nor do I like any romance attached to a character who trafficks women & children. I did like seeing the MMC soften towards the end but was grossed out that he's still a trafficker & he's raising a kid to take over his disgusting empire someday.
There were quite a few editing problems that need fixing. Different sized fonts, periods missing, run on sentences, sometimes felt like things were repeated, etc.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. The Sinner of Mute is a gritty, unsettling book that leans heavily into psychological tension and dark, obsessive dynamics rather than traditional romance.
The story follows Sorina, a mute who is forced into a marriage with Lucien Thornea billionaire whose possessive and twisted nature turns her life into a prison.
A book has never made me feel so much anger towards a character Lucien is infuriating, and that emotional reaction is exactly what makes the story so impactful. I also want to add I did find some parts hard to follow but I think it was because it was set in a different country using terms I wasn't familiar with however the author tried to make this as readable as possible which was amazing! I found the style of writing to be different to what I'm used to so it took me a little while to adjust.
This is not a love story in the usual sense; it’s raw, intense, and often uncomfortable, exploring power imbalances, control, and emotional manipulation. The writing pulls you deep into Sorina’s silence and Lucien’s disturbing mindset, making the experience feel heavy and consuming. Definitely a good read. But giving 3 stars as it can be hard to follow at times and there could have been more about the characters themselves added into the book but overall it was a good read.
She is part of a nomadic family. Not able to speak, but yet draws the interest of the wrong man when she is dancing.. He is a rich and powerful man who is not only used to getting what he wants, but he demands it. And he decides he wants her. He treats her family safety for her hand marriage. This one is different than the regular force marriage stories. First of all you have to buckle up for this one as it is a very long book. Second, you have to be willing to wait through some very rough times. I wouldn’t say morally gray I would say morally black. He does some truly horrible things. This is not a misunderstanding or a in the name of the greater good situation. These are truly terrible things. And that includes truly terrible things to her. If that is going to be triggering for you, I would stay far away from this book. I would say that the pacing on this book is also a little bit different than other stories and at times it is a bit difficult to follow. The characters are definitely interesting and it is hard to put it down. I don’t know if I liked it or not. Does it have a happily ever after?, yes. .. but is it worth it after everything that happened? I still am not sure.

This story reads as a very very early draft. It suffers from complete lack of editing. It is nowhere near to be published.
Some basic tips for the author: - The placements of the paragraps are terrible. The paragraphs should be edited starting from the left of the page leading to right - not centered like poems! Also put more sentences in one paragraph - Chapters should start from a new page - The cutesy stars do not fit with the vibe of the book (bullying, torture) so the author should just delete them. Same with chapter title font - Tons of spelling mistakes (for example pages 5, 21, 26, 28, 32, 34, 38, 43, 64, 65, 71, 74, 76, 80, 83 etc…. Then I stopped marking these) - For some reason the font size changes in the middle of the book - We don´t use () in novels. I suggest replacing them with -
It may be good idea to put some genres or trigger warnings in the description as this is not for the basic romance readers. This is a dark story about obsession, torture, posession, bullying, mafia romance. The plot is very mid but I did like the character development it had towards the end.
Overall need tons of editing and rewriting before publishing.
I gave grace because she said it was her debut novel... Outside of grammar and sentence structure ( which I really don't care about too much depending on the writing style) I was looking for a good read. One that grips you and holds you, makes you think about it during the day, and wonder about it while sleeping. This book did that in spades. Sorina is a mute, she has lost both her parents and lives in a caravan with her grandmother and the rest of her clan. She is also a phenomenal dancer and catches the eye of the local mafia don , Lucien. Lucien claims what he wants, there really is no choice. He gave her an option come with him or he'll traffic her younger sister. Sorina goes. Lucien shows her that he has all the power and all decisions are made by him, from what she wears, where she goes and who she talks to. It's a dark book based on obsession and control. As much as you don't want to believe someone like that can exist , unfortunately they do. I think if you like dark psychological stalker books you should add this to your list. Sorina shows us she does have strength and courage through every step of this book .
This is my first book from this author. I love a good dark twisted read. This read brings the darkness. Over all I enjoyed the read. Sorina is a free spirit who doesn’t speak, that Lucian decides he wants to have it. So he devices a plan to make her force her hand. Bring a king pin he decides to break her to get her submission.
The story does lack some depth. It doesn’t explain how he found Sorina or even enough of Sorina’s back story to explain why she doesn’t talk. I would have like a little more charted development for her. We slowly gain all the insight into Lucian making us feel for his broken character a little at a time.
This is not a story for the weak because it’s going to break your heart. You will want to scream for Sorina. Watching this free spirit wilt and become a shell of her self is gut wrenching. But her will to survive is a light in the dark.
This is a standalone with a long list of tigger warnings that should not be taken lightly.
While I expected the "obsessed mafia" and "hate to love" tropes, the MMC’s treatment of Sorina, specifically the days spent intentionally causing her pain made him feel irredeemable to me. This created a major tonal inconsistency, after that level of cruelty, the HEA felt unearned and jarring. I’m giving this 2 stars because the character building at the beginning was excellent; the author’s initial descriptions are so detailed that you truly get a feel for the leads. However, the rest of the book was a major struggle to finish. The editing is unfortunately non existent, featuring repetitive sentences, spelling errors, and "jumpy" transitions that make the timeline difficult to track. I actually downloaded the published version on KU hoping the ARC errors had been fixed, but they remained exactly the same. This story has a solid foundation, but it needs a professional editor to truly reach its potential where I would give 4 stars.
The books seems to be written in a poetic type of manner reminding me of such like 'spoken poetry'. It feels very much like English may very well be the second language for this author. So the way it's written aside...
It is a 'love' story where once the male sets his sights on her, he takes what he wants and exerts complete control/dominance and takes place through toxicity and abuse. The MMC is twisted mentally (morally black) and has a convoluted heart which has been influenced heavily by the abuse he himself endured in his upbringing. He is indeed very dark, abusive, ruthless, and a sadist who thrives on torture/pain. The FMC is mute who communicates through sign. It was depicted as if this holds challenge and strife with silent screams and silent suffering, yet everyone could supposedly understand sign language except 1 non important brief side character. The FMC is shown as a free spirit and innocent at the start till she was forced to marry the MMC. The story tries to depict her as strong and resilient while stubbornly tries to show no weakness by enduring and taking in all the pain/torture. Always -no matter what‐ attempts to leave yet takes on martydom persona as well as shows masochistic tendencies as her body always responds mixing pleasure with pain through their 'love making'.
The book takes on a melcholy tone throughout and tries to depict repeatedly the degradation, depravity, and traumatic type situations but it lands flat. The book is unnecessarily long with it's 528 pages almost as if choosing repetitive circumstances over actually gripping the reader takes precedent. Regardless of actually 'liking' the content, I grew bored and admittedly skimmed through after the halfway mark, yet still received the jist of the story despite doing so.
The male controling the surface image as if pristine with nothing but rot underneath. He would blame her for making him the way he is because she was weak yet defiant always never obeying and being submissive (which would have left him bored) which inadvertantly was a perfect match for him. "You're a storm trapped in flesh".. "and every scar the storm left is where I've poured my poison. You're mine. Ruined. Perfect. Mine." Their ties deepened through the trauma, a baby, and blurred circumstances with the end result being 'bonded forever'.
So if the reader likes to be a part of torturing and secretly a glutton for punishment, this may be your kind of read.
Lots of typing errors that beed heavy editing, spacing and context problems, flow and layout errors. This book needs an editor/alpha reader that could assist in revising, tightning up, and maybe even lessen to make a shorter read as there is a twisted kind of potential seen with this story nonetheless.
I appreciate the ability to read this as an advanced copy read through Booksprout.
What a rollercoaster. Ahhh. Honestly the buildup is quite nice. Plus the pace is fast. I read it in one seating. And i like how it's full of 'show not tell'... like the scenes played like a movie in my mind. So basically i love how graphic it is? Even if theres a lot of uncomfortable scenes ahhhh. I wanted to give this a 4.5 stars but i think it's not possible here. So i gave 4 stars. I didnt give it 5 stars because of the pace. Over all... the pace is great but some chapters are slower than the others? Like some chapters are packed with a lot of happenings while the others are not / some chapters are short so it kinda threw me off. For me the smut is three chilis lol. Since there's a lot of action and 'wholesome' and other parts too. I think the ending is the perfect ending. I can not think of a better ending because... Lucien is Lucien XD and he's detestable oh my god. Im glad it ended the way it did. Oh ... and one of my favorite Lucien quotes : "Wit's a blade that cut both ways"- lucien, chapter 60, page 293.
I was gifted a copy of this book but my opinions within this review are entirely my own. The Sinner of Mute by Maria Rahaman was a good read. Sorina is a mute Romani dancer whose family is bribed and taken away from her grandma and sister and her whole family. Her whole life is turned upside down by Lucien, who is terrifying, unhinged, morally grey Mafia. Sorina goes through Hell and back so to speak. She is thrown into a world she never knew of power, obsession, control, major trama. Definitely two people in a world of toxicity and all consuming. Lucien will learn to love and care for Sorina and not keep using his power to control and possessive her. Very dark, intense, obsessive, morally grey story! I did have some issues with grammer issues and some lines were repeated and their were stars and things as a border around each page that for me was distracting at times but I'm sure most of that will be fixed upon release and it definitely was worth reading! Book does end on cliffhanger, looking out for book 2! Check your triggers before reading as it is very dark!
