I just finished this book, and honestly… I don’t know how I feel about it. I didn’t hate it, but I can’t say I loved it either. I mean, obviously, the story needs to be built, and I think the author did a great job with that, the plot is well-constructed and carefully developed.
But for me, it lacked intensity and darkness for most of the book. Nothing truly disturbing happens until around 60–70% in. The ending is more intense, yes, but still… I was missing something.
Here, we do get more answers, but I feel like the parents’ deaths came a bit too easily. The mother commits suicide, and when Madeleine finds her diary — that’s when you go, “What the hell?” Especially when the mother blames Savannah for everything…
As for the father — yes, he dies, but the whole revenge part with Savannah felt very superficial. There’s barely any real confrontation or emotional impact, and that left me wanting more. Overall, I think the parents didn’t suffer enough for what they did in the past.
That said, the book is well-written and well-developed. It’s just that for me, it was missing something more , more darkness, more intensity. Still, I’m giving it 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, it’s a good book and I’ll recommend it and all the others, but maybe it’s just my current mood 🫣 and not the book itself.
As always, please read the trigger warnings — this kind of story isn’t for everyone.
And thanks to all the authors for the opportunity to read this book in advance. Overall, I’m really enjoying the Nightmares on Lull Lane series — it has amazing authors and stories.🖤🖤
