Look Up in the Sky is a book in need of an editor. I understand and empathize with the self-published nature of the endeavor, but that doesn't change the fact that there are multiple spelling or grammar errors within the text, as well as some standout formatting issues.

I still cannot bear to give Mark Edlitz's work anything less than 5 stars. Why? Because the Superboy TV series from the late 1980s/early 1990s deserved a tome like this--and Edlitz produces in spades.

I stumbled across this series as a young child and was utterly entranced by it. The similarities with the Christopher Reeve Superman portrayal (right down to the suit!) sucked me in, and at times the series produced some Super Stories that hold up with the best Man of Steel yarns ever constructed.
But then, the series never gained its anticipated foothold in syndication and was effectively lost (but for a bootleg campaign here and there) for two decades. Only Superman Returns mania in 2006 combined with the extraordinary efforts of super-fan Sam Rizzo got the episodes released again.

It took nearly 20 more years for someone to construct a definitive oral/written history of the series, but that is exactly what Edlitz has done here. The brief season-by-season episode descriptions are fine, but where Look Up in the Sky really shines is in the interviews. Edlitz tracks down the luminaries in front of and behind the camera to tell the stories that have largely not been brought to fore of mind since the series vanished from the screen in 1992. I now feel like I have a true understanding of what made the series tick and why, on occasion, it captured real magic that stands the test of time.

While reading Look Up in the Sky, my respect for the endeavor was perhaps only eclipsed by the disappointment that I didn't write it myself (hahaha). There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Superboy was long overdue for a full reckoning, and that's exactly what transpires within these pages. If you happen to remember this underdog series from 1988-1992, I can't recommend Look Up in the Sky highly enough!

Interesting look at the late 80s-early 90s Superboy TV series with some interviews with many of the cast and crew.. does get a bit repetitive and could have used some editing .. but gives some insight into the production and the people involved.
