Book Two at Firestone Academy is pure, chaotic fun entertaining as hell and exactly the kind of rom-fantasy romp that doesn’t take itself too seriously. We’re back with Briony queen of messy choices and her sassy bestie Fry.

This basically picks up right where Book One left off, serving more Thorne time thank you, a juicy mystery reveal, lots of spice, and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. The worldbuilding is light, but that actually fits the vibe.
This is about good time vibe, banter, and heat, not homework and maps. If you’re in the mood for quick, flirty fun with magical hijinks, this book for you.

Very very slow
I think the characters needed to be younger. I don't see a 21 year old who's had such a hard life being this childish.
Briony's an idiot, there I said it, it has to be said.
Would it not make more sense to stay alive so she can find what happened to her sister? It's like she's on a mission to get killed every 5 seconds but "She can look after herself" with what exactly?? I've never been a fan of stubborn people, her obstinate determination to die and keep secrets got old real quick. We juggle her hating practically everyone, to hearing about her sister. It got tedious. I understand how someone so bitter could have no friends, even Fly was getting bored with her constant vitriol.
I still can't get over how the big bad got one paragraph. Is that not what we are here for?
These MMCs are some of the worst mates I've read about. Where is the care? The girl is freezing, they can literally make clothes and blankets from thin air. What do they do, offer her chocolate and flowers. I can't even.....
Book 1 had me annoyed with her characterisation, book 2 I skimmed just to get to the end. I don't have the patience for book 3. All we know by the end of book 2 is what Briony was keeping a secret anyway. I think we had all guessed where the plot reveals where going.
I won't be reading book 3 I've had enough of Briony.

Un 2e tome qui m'a plu et que j'ai trouvé entrainant. Si l'intrigue en elle-même semble un peu clichée et que certaines choses restent prévisibles, j'ai aimé suivre notre héroïne dans sa quête pour savoir ce qui est arrivé à sa sœur (on se doute bien de quelque chose, mais plus on avance et moins cela semble si simple).
Les scènes d'actions et de rebondissements tiennent en haleine tout comme les différentes romances avec les Princes et un certain professeur.
Dans l'ensemble, j'ai lu cette suite avec plaisir. Briony est un personnage qui évolue progressivement, tout comme les autres protagonistes. C'est une lecture simple, plaisante. Une romance de harem inversé dans un univers d'urban fantasy/fantasy banal et pas très développé, mais ce n'est pas ce que je retiens de cette lecture.
À lire pour passer un moment sans prise de tête.

Another riveting story in this series. You begin to find out more about Briony and the secrets she holds close. She so wants to trust someone but given the way her life has gone so far, who? Several twists along the way and I feel like there is more to come that is going to be equally as entertaining.

Absolutely mesmerizing
I really didn’t want this book to end…. I can normally read a full book this size in a day when it’s the kind of series story that I can’t put down. This was one that I didn’t want to put down nor did I want it to end. I’m SOOO glad Blaze her new pet from the Firestone was not part of the last trial. I was dreading reading that and Hannah really surprised me with that last one. They didn’t have any hints or insights to the type of trial. As usual, she goes last, and it’s rigged. As per the usual. It was for each person to face their fears. Her worst fear was her step mom, she froze up at first but then remembered her anger, now that she has a back bone, she stood up to her. Then she’s whisked into someone else’s worst fear. I’m thinking it’s a memory though, hers and their new person Thorne. The bond mate that can’t touch anyone due to his curse. He’s being attacked by demons and she’s running to get to him, to protect him since he refuses too. And the “special”ness she described her sister as, also makes her special. She uses her “specialness” on the demons and lights them up with fire. Is this a coincidence because of Blaze? I don’t think so. I think the gods were doing their best to protect her until she “emerged” or something. She’s something they probably haven’t seen in hundreds of years, probably since the last dragon rider. I completely believe it’s connected with Blaze. Professor Fox Tudor, another mate, it turns out bundles her up once the memory or vision or whatever fear trial it was out of the area. I know Fox said that the guys had Thorne and he was going to be ok but I expected them to be there for her too. It makes me wonder that if they were injured in this vision of sorts, would it also transcend to real life? Truly, this book had it all. Bryoni was actually vulnerable with the guys, she told Flyn and Thorne about the Firestone and Blaze. She opened up to Fox, and each of the guys. She was bullied and almost died in an attack while the guys were gone but Beaufort was able to get the ring leader kicked out and removed from her quarter to live in the Slate quarter which is where Bryoni came from. It was incredible reading about Odessa being escorted from the academy, since Odessa was a grade A Bitch. The mean popular girl, always gas lightening and instigating bullying tactics against Bryoni. It was perfect. I just wish that small bit was a bit longer. After everything Odessa did to Bryoni, I think Bryoni was owed a bit more but at least this works. We all know how ppl in the Slate quarter survive in basically nothing. I’m just so sad that this book is over and the next one won’t be out For EVER. Seriously loved this book. Hannah sure knows how to suck a reader in, feel the characters emotions so deeply that it’s hard to tell which are mine and which are Bryoni’s, or Beaufort, or Thorne or Dray. Can’t forget Fox. Bryoni sure has some incredible mates. Can’t wait to read the next one.

I won’t lie, I didn’t expect this book to be what it was. A lot of second books are still very vague when it comes to any kind of answer. Don’t get me wrong, there are still many, many questions to be answered, but we do get a few answers.
Briony is starting to find her footing with some of her guys. The steam is steamy to be sure, but there are also some meaningful moments that allow for a lot of character growth.
We find out just exactly what is up with that cracked stone, and I for one, cannot wait to see what comes after everyone else learns about it too. Briony is starting to learn how to trust. As a result her friends are very helpful in a lot of ways.
As you would expect, our girl nearly get unalived several times. Her stubbornness knows no bounds however, so she is still refusing the protection offered by being a Thrall. I completely understand why she feels that way, but at what point are you cutting your nose off to spite your face?
I liked that we got to learn more about the princes. We even get to see them in action, which I wasn’t expecting. We also learn a bit about the professor. I had already figured out what he was, but having a clearer picture of the how’s and why’s was nice.
Overall, I was pleased with the outcome of this installment. The cliff isn’t too bad, but I am certainly glad I can start book three right away.
If you liked the first book, you should enjoy this one too.

Okay listen — book two in a series is always my favourite and Spark of Sorcery delivered everything I wanted and then some. It’s like the training wheels are off and now we’re speeding down a hill into DRAMA TOWN 😍. There’s more magic, more danger, and finally that romantic tension starts blossoming into real connections. I was glued to the pages, giddy over the spice, and just loving how the story deepened in so many clever ways. And that cliffhanger? Manageable. I didn’t scream into a pillow (this time) but I am pacing until book three. 👀

Briony is our FMC and is from Slate Quarter, the poorest of the Quarters & those without magic. In book one, we follow her as she endures her first year at the academy. She was just trying to lie low, and find out who killed her sister & why. But, she quickly grabs the attention of the most powerful shadow weavers in the academy, from Onyx Quarter, the richest and most powerful magic wielders of the Quarters: Beaufort, Dray & Thorne. This quickly put her front and center, where she receives the most unwanted attention. She is bullied by her fellow students, and there is definitely some strange things happening within this magical academy. This book definitely didn’t suffer from second book syndrome, and is fact my favorite of the series so far! I can’t wait for book 3!!

Again fantastic book, also read this in less than 24 hours. Could not get enough. The mystery is fun and the secrets are fun. And a dragon! I love that for the FMC. I was pissed tho the book added her vampire professor as a fated mate. Like idk I was hoping we’d stick with the weird obsession thing and he’s just turn out to be a bad guy but no. Turns out he was vampire (which was hinted at but I wasn’t happy about it being confirmed), I feel like it’s cliche and why do it when the 3 other MMC’s are cooler and have better and more interesting relationships with the FMC. I like where those are heading, not thrilled about the professor-student thing. (Don’t get me wrong, the trope can be fun when done well see the broken bloodlines books) I don’t think this was done that well. It might get better who knows. Again the spice is rather tame and not that much of it imo. Can not wait for book 3 to release. Waiting at the edge of my seat.

This one didn’t hit the same way as the first book. The story moved at a crawl, and I kept waiting for it to pick up. I still liked a few moments and a couple character beats, and that’s what kept me reading. It wasn’t bad, just slow and a bit flat compared to the start of the series. But there’s enough here that I’m sticking with it, and I’m hoping book three brings back the spark that made the first one work.

I’m not sure how but the FMC annoyed me even more in this book lol. Barely made an effort to dig into her sister’s death until halfway-ish but ends up putting the task onto her friend.

I swear this series has me eating out of the palm of it’s hand. I’m so invested in all the characters and the plot lines. I just know I’m going to be blindsided at some point. I have so many questions! And I need answers asap. It 100% checks all my boxes!

This instalment is a masterpiece! It's all heating up in this book, full of wonder, shadows, and questions. We finally learn what the stone is that Briony has kept with her for years, and we get some answers about her sister. Her relationships with the men in her ife are coming along and growing stronger. Thorne, my heart bleeds for him. I can't wait for book three.

I’ve always loved Hannah’s books and I’m honored to have been one of her readers to receive and ARC for this one.
The first one in this series start of with our FMC Briony going to the academy with the intentions to find out what happened to her sister. Of course it’s not the easiest task with the MMC not leaving her alone which make every other student also not leaving her alone to do what she came for. In this second one, the searching continues and her peers and the MMCs continue to pester her. This is just a very very diffuse description of the plot, I don’t want to give you any spoilers. But let me tell you, it is soooo good! 😏
If you are looking for fantasy, an exciting plot and just the right amount of slow burn and spice. This is for you! In this part of the series we get more insight of the main characters and get to know and love them more, if that’s even possible. The plot is plotting and the spice is spicing, if you know what I mean? 🔥🔥🔥
Even though we know it ends on a cliffhanger, as most of Hannah’s books do, I wasn’t ready for this one. I’m obviously gonna read it again when it’s released on July 2nd and then wallow until we get the next part.

Mehhh…the book itself is a good read. I’m just not a fan of Briony (The main FMC) she’s so immature it makes my eye twitch. I was hoping for a little more growth in this book, but alas not so much. Towards the VERY end we get to see that backbone come out to play. Fingers crossed that that momentum keeps up!
Now sweet sweet Theo, he also needs some work, but I feel like he has made a more significant leap than Briony. As well as Fox and even Claire. Briony aside I am invested in this story soooo much! Although I’m on the fence about reading as they release or waiting until it’s completed 😏 I think I may be spoiled by Hannah’s OV books with all of her badass FMCs.
I shall hold my judgement on the entire series until the very end!

Spending the whole prologue calling the ‘rounded stone,’ that called out to her in the woods, an ‘egg,’ then spending a third of the book wondering why her ‘stone’ is cracking, is the perfect depiction of the unimpressive and lazy writing happening here.
Just like when someone describes ridding themselves of a residual evidence pertaining to a certain supernatural being and then we’re supposed to be surprised when it’s revealed that’s exactly what they are.
It doesn’t make us feel smart for being right.
It actually implies that the author thinks we’re dumb.
The ending is interesting but, again, not written well enough to bode well for the rest of the series.

my suspicions of fox were confirmed ☑️
anyways I like him and thorne but the fmc annoyed me and it was sooo slow paced. I think the author wants her to come across as a strong assertive independent woman but for me she came across like a stubborn child. Yes you can be independent and strong but what makes you strong and wise if knowing when to ask for help too cause as we see in book 1 & 2 this girl is not strong at all….

I just blew through the 1st 2 books in 2 days. I was completely enthralled. Thankfully October isn't too far off for the next one. And the cliffhanger didn't make me want to strangle the Author. That was refreshing.

Spark of Sorcery is the second book in @hannahhazewrites series 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕱𝖎𝖗𝖊𝖘𝖙𝖔𝖓𝖊 𝕬𝖈𝖆𝖉𝖊𝖒𝖞, and once again i have to tell you that this is one of my favorites fantasy, HR, fated mate, touch her and die, world building that I've read this year and I just didn't want it to finish.
Briony, our FMC, I felt that she had such a growing up in this book, more sure of herself, mere confident and just learning the ability to be loved and taking care of. That amazing new "character" born from the firestone just made me dream about having a stone of my own! I loved the relationship that they've built, I'm so excited to what the future will bring us with Blaze 🔥
Our MMC's Beaufort, Thorne, Dray and that dark, mysterious and delicious Professor Fox once again made it all worth it, I love that we learned so much more about them, and are these men hot and possessive! The chemistry is starting to boil out of the charts, and the relationship between the 5 is beginning to grow and I can't wait to see them all together like a family. I really, really felt my heart braking more than once regarding Thorne, it's definitely what I most look forward to read in the next book.
I cannot write about this book without once again addressing the supporting characters, Fly and Clare are stones regarding our girl, and that just makes me happy.
This second book also ends with a little cliffhanger that promises to change the plot as we known it and bringing a promise to get near the truth of what happened to Briony's sister.
Thank you so much Hannah, for giving me again this amazing opportunity. And now I'm just gonna stand here impatiently waiting for Taste of Thorns and the development of this amazing story about this simple and normal girl from Slate Quarter (is she?) 🔥

The second book in the Firestone Academy series continues to deliver on the promise from Storm of Shadows, building on the mystery while shaping up the relationships and lore surrounding this world. Really enjoyed the ride and now I just need be patient as we wait for the series to continue with Taste of Thorns (book 3) in October!
Some critical things happen in book 2:
- Clare teaches Briony to befriend the library, and their research starts getting much more fruitful.
- Fly continues to prove he is the BEST and makes Briony a gorgeous dress.
- The Firestone finally cracks and gives us an adorable dragon friend, Blaze.
- The elephant in the room is finally weighed, confirming that the princes and Fox are all Briony's fated mates Each of the relationships does feel unique and separate as Briony navigates learning how to trust them all with the strong feelings they're all developing for each other. The men come to a truce in order to protect her, but the princes do not trust Fox and Fox doesn't trust them yet.
- As hinted at previously, we discover that Briony's sister had hidden powers, and all evidence of that was scrubbed from the academy documentation. Briony discovers her own power during the second trial, leaving us all at the end of the book with Fox ominously telling us she doesn't have shadow weaver powers at all, but something else entirely.
Some mostly unfounded predictions for the rest of the series after finishing book 2:
- Chekhov 's gun. I don't think we've seen the last of the student they read about who was banished in her sister's year for helping another student during the trials; it seemed too important to be a throwaway reminder that the officials are heartless. Briony might be banished for helping Thorne in the trial at the end of book 2, or they'll all have to run at some point, sending them all out of the realm. I suspect the banished student and the demons that they're at war with will all play a role in the rest of the series.
- The Firestone and dragon are inexplicably linked to Briony's hidden power; hence why they conveniently went "extinct" a few hundred years ago, and why they continue the academy, to stamp out whatever power she and her sister had.
- There's a fifth mate still to come. I have lots of reasons why I think that, but they're not important. Just let it be known that I have suspicions.

No Spark, Just Static: A Guide to Getting Nowhere by Chapter 24!
I gave this series a second chance hoping for growth, but unfortunately, it’s just more of the same—only messier. If this hadn’t been free on Kobo Plus, I would have DNF’d very early on—though I did manage to get to Chapter 24.
This book feels like a collection of ideas harvested from better, more famous fantasy novels, but executed with significantly less skill. The world-building remains non-existent; two books in and I still have no grasp of how this world actually functions or what the stakes are.
-More tropes than Plot!-
The pacing is incredibly frustrating. "Events" occur constantly, but the plot never actually moves forward. Instead of answering the questions left over from book one, the author just piles on another subplot, as if adding more noise will distract from the lack of substance.
The character dynamics are exhausting and full of red flags. The decision to layer the "mate" trope on top of the "thrall" trope actually makes things worse for the character development, not better. Instead of creating a meaningful connection, it does the opposite—it feels like the relationship is being forced,this time by external biological "rules" rather than chemistry.
Every male character seems to exist solely to tell us how much they want to sleep with the FMC- usually very graphically. Meanwhile, the FMC spends the entire time in a repetitive cycle of "I don't want this / actually I want this," which gets old by chapter three. Also, I’m not sure who the target audience is for the wolf-human intimacy scenes insinuated at points, but it felt more like a jarring attempt at shock value than a necessary part of the story.
-Final Verdict-
This is a derivative sequel that prioritizes "steam" over basic storytelling. If you are only here for the smut, go for it. However, I truly hope the author takes the time to refine their world-building and narrative structure in the future, as there is potential for a much stronger story beneath these overused tropes.
