Leaving a broken relationship behind, publicist Hannah is making a fresh start in New York.

Only in New York is a smashing read, just right for packing in your suitcase and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s romantic, pacy, witty and engrossing.

Of course Only in New York has romance as one of its themes, and throughout I was desperate for Hannah and her new client Wildcat Ward McKenzie to fall in love, but what Melissa Hill illustrates with such aplomb is that love is not a straightforward emotion and external events and pressures can impinge and affect it. I thought the balance of Hannah and Ward’s roles in this theme was sheer perfection, especially as we get to know them so intimately and possibly better than they know themselves. It’s rare in romantic fiction to get such an insight into both male and female roles.

The plot is brilliant. It speeds along, and I thought the way the reader has insight into the identity of P-1 (read the book) whereas Hannah does not, gave an added frisson of enjoyment and engagement.

But as well as being an enormously satisfying enemies to lovers narrative, Only in New York has other really interesting elements too. I found the insight into the world of public relations fascinating as Hannah attempts to rehabilitate Ward into both his ice hockey team and public opinion. The pressures of high powered jobs, being in the public eye and of the challenges faced by elite sports people are integral to the story and thoroughly engaging.

The New York setting is just perfect. Whilst the city doesn’t over dominate, there is an authentic sense of place that means the reader can experience some of it without leaving home. Equally important is the way Hannah makes assumptions about the person living in the apartment next door to her. Melissa Hill shows we shouldn’t judge others and that we never really know quite what is happening behind someone else’s front door.

Although Hannah does jump to conclusions and can be quick tempered, I thought these flaws in her personality made her incredibly realistic, so that the story feels as if it is about a real person even though her job in public relations for the rich and famous is beyond the experience of many readers.

I so enjoyed Only in New York. It felt like the perfect summer read, being completely absorbing. It’s packed with believable people despite their celebrity status. It’s entertaining, romantic and engaging. What could be better than that? I suggest you escape to New York with Hannah immediately…

Най - удовлетворяващите истории съм откривала съвсем случайно. В томчета, които обикновено избирам, за да се забавлявам и да си създам добро настроение.
Only in New York
Only in New York

" If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life, it’s that there’s no one out there you should trust, really. Everyone’s out for themselves and that’s pretty much the way it’s always going to be.’

Last month, I read a lot of genres about family and sisterhood. So, this month there might be a spark for a different genre.

Therefore, I tried reading a romance genre; enemy to lover, but unfortunately, I didn’t really enjoy this story. Yeah, It felt boring and like I was forcing myself to finish it just so I wouldn’t DNF the book.

Oh, by the way… this book is about Hannah, who works as an LA publicist (stands for Los Angeles) and then has to be transferred to New York to work there. Hannah wasn’t prepared at all for the move not even a budget to find a rental house. Coincidentally, her friend Courtney told her to move into her apartment since Courtney would be out of town for several months.

Courtney’s neighbor is rather strange, and before Hannah moved into the apartment, Courtney warned her early on that she and her male neighbor didn’t get along. As for Hannah, as long as the neighbor doesn’t bother her, she doesn’t mind. She will just mind her own business.

But, all of this turned out even worse when she had to adjust her new work environment and also the troublesome neighbor.

Next, we will meet Ward McKenzie who is a celebrity client and talented ice hockey player. He becomes the center of attention because of the problems he causes and had a bad reputation. So, his relationship with Hannah as a publicist, it is develops from enemy to lover in this story.

Only in New York by Melissa Hill publishes May 22nd with HQ and is described as ‘a warm and funny enemies-to-lovers romance set in New York’. Hannah left Ireland years ago and made a new life for herself in The States. For much of that time she lived in LA, having developed a reputation as a successful publicist. When her personal life hits a crisis Hannah seeks a change and decides to transfer back to New York where her initial adventures had begun. Fortunately, a client of Hannah’s has a penthouse apartment that needs a sitter for a few months, and this reprieve offers Hannah the space to breathe and regroup.

Eager to prove her worth in the New York office Hannah immediately dives into the challenging accounts she is handed with a positive can-do mindset and a will to succeed. She has a mixture of clients but there is one in particular that is taking up most of her time. He is an ice-hockey player with a bad rep who is currently in recovery from an injury. Hannah’s job is to use his downtime as an opportunity to remould him and create an alternative, less troublesome, more media-friendly version. Hannah is used to dealing with the quirks and pitfalls of celebrity PR but she soon finds that this one client might just be the one that cannot be tamed.

Meanwhile, there is a neighbour in her building who is determined to evict her and is causing her all sorts of bother. Initially frustrated Hannah is flummoxed but she is a people-person, never one to shy away from anyone. Determined to placate her new neighbour she accidentally devises a method of communication, but will it be enough to stay the complaints that keep filtering down?

Only in New York is a really sweet read. There are no major surprises but it really doesn’t matter as it’s a book that is so very easy to just escape into, to shut out the other noise and to spend time with Hannah and this – almost – lovely cast of characters. Hannah is at times hot-headed and outspoken and she does make one to many assumptions along the way but she has a heart of gold and very much wears it on her sleeve.

Melissa Hill knows her fans and her style of writing perfectly captures the uplifting and positive nature of this tale. Only in New York is a smart and romantic tale, a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining story that will leave most readers with a warm and fuzzy feeling. A sincere and uplifting novel, Only in New York is the ideal ‘pack in your suitcase’ novel, the perfect seasonal read.

Thank you so much to Harper Collins for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I gave this book 2 stars.

I want to preface this review by saying that there were elements of this book that I did enjoy, but what didn't work for me has ultimately led me to give this book a 2 star rating. Having said that, I do think there is an audience out there for this book, it's only that on this occasion the negatives outweigh the positives.

Let's start with what I did like: the tropes! I always love a grumpy x sunshine romance, and I thought it paired well with the plot. The celebrity hockey player x Publicist paved way for a fun off-limits element which felt believable, and I liked how much depth we got from the main male character.

Speaking of which, for the vast majority of this book, I found his character (Ward) to be interesting. I liked the direction Ward's character development was heading, and I thought the author set up the book well for him to have a satisfying conclusion. In the end, however, I don't think this was fully reached. Without spoiling the ending, for me this was evidence that his toxic masculinity was too deeply rooted for him to change. Unfortunately, that's not an attractive trait for me in a love interest. There was so much potential in his backstory and development, but ultimately this fell flat for me.

I thought that the main female character, Hannah, was just fine. There wasn't much to her than her job and her upbeat personality, and I wished that the author had fully explored her character with as much depth as she had with Ward. Overall, I found her to be quite a forgettable lead.

This book definitely would have benefited from having an epilogue for a more satisfying conclusion. I felt that the book ended abruptly as I was left with quite a few questions surrounding both of the characters' futures and would have liked to have seen how their story ended in a way that felt more complete.

I think this one is worth checking out if you're looking for a grumpy x sunshine and off-limits trope done well and something that is quick and fun to read! Unfortunately it just didn't pay off enough for me to rate it higher.

This is a grumpy/sunshine hockey romance. Wade is in recovery for an injury, and is known for his bad reputation in the media. In steps Hannah, PR guru, who’s recently moved to New York and is staying in a clients flat. Also? They’re neighbours but don’t know it yet.

I’ll state the minor thinks I enjoyed first. I likes the side characters, Shelly was lovely, Bruno was a gem, Johnny was cool. I also appreciated how Hannah went about her job. I like when the FMC is quite established in her job, this isn’t her first rodeo you know? I also love notes in a book. I just enjoy the passing back and forth, it’s different and just quite sweet.

Unfortunately none of that made me truly enjoy this book. I think I got put off at the start and it couldnt make a recovery for me. Wade mentions at one point that he doesn’t see the point in trying to have the media see him not as a bad guy, because he’s a good guy in private and it’s never done him any good?? Like what kind of “nice guys finish last” mentality is that? I understand the grumpy part. But people can be grumpy without being assholes. The MMC was really just mean at times and I just feel like he didn’t grow enough truly for it to be a turn.

The FMC, for me, is a bit of a forgettable character. Nothing stood out to me really. She wanted to do better for him which is great, but whenever he pushed back a bit she let it slide and gave up. Like you’re helping him! Not the other way around. I appreciate that he got better with her and it is a slow burn, I just didn’t get the chemistry.

Overall, this wasn’t the right fit for me. But from seeing other reviews, it’s clear that some people do love it, and I’m sure it’ll find its audience.

This is my first book by Melissa and I cannot wait to read more of her books. I loved the sound of the plot, and I love a book that has my name as the main character too. Hannah needs a fresh start, things have gone wrong in her life and she needs to get away for a bit so when a chance encounter leads to her spending her days in New York in a very expensive penthouse Hannah jumps at the chance to live there. But things don't stay great and Hannah is struggling to balance a new job and new neighbours. And a handsome client thrown in there too. There is lots going on but I feel a fast paced read for this book was the right one as Hannah always seems busy and on the go. I love how it is set in New York as I have never been there so I felt as though from Melissa describing the place that I got a sense of what it is like. A really great read to follow along with. I really did feel for Hannah at different points in this book but I saw the potential she had. A warm and funny read that readers will fall in love with.

Hannah, an LA publicist, moves to New York for a fresh start, staying in a luxury penthouse while juggling a demanding new job. With a celebrity client causing chaos and a grumpy neighbor who clearly doesn’t want her there, she’s got plenty to handle.

This was more than just a love story—Hannah’s personal journey added a lot, and as the book went on, her reasons for leaving LA made even more sense. I really liked her as a main character, and Ward was great too. Their client-publicist dynamic was fun to read, and their chemistry was spot on.

The neighbor situation was a cute addition, but I do wish they had worked things out a little faster. Like other readers, I would’ve loved a bit more time with Hannah and Ward as a couple—maybe even a short epilogue to round things off.

I’ve always loved Melissa Hill’s books, and this one’s definitely another keeper!

How lovely it was to be reading a new Melissa Hill book, I haven't spotted a new release of hers in a long while and I've always been a fan.

This was a highly enjoyable rom-com set in New York. Hannah has just moved back to New York, after her stint in LA went a bit wrong, and she is now building up a new client list in the big Apple. And one of the people she now needs to do PR work for is Wildcat Ward.

Ward is an ice-hockey player who needs a bit of a new image, or he may get dropped from the team, once he is recovered from his recent injury.

From the first meeting between Hannah and Ward I was intrigued. There was just something about them that was really funny, clumsy and amusing to read about.

I loved getting to know Ward and all the characters in this book.

I really enjoyed reading this story.

Thank you to HQ and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

WARD??? That's his name... Why did he say ''Shes easy on the eye''. No, just no. That's not an acceptable compliment.

I want to write something positive about this book, but I can't. I just can't. The best part for me was the beginning of the story. When every was settling into place. After that? Well... I can't say feelings were the same.

Everything seemed as forced and awkward as their conversations. For example : she broke free from his embrace, quickly standing back. ''I can't'' (his reply) ''Can't, or won't?''
I'm sorry, but I cringed. Then she says that shes been hurt before and is still hurting. He really apologising like everything was his fault when it wasn't.

While I know some people loved this story, it really isn't something I enjoyed (personally).

Thank you Netgalley and the author for the ARC👄🗯️☎️

This was one of those accidental magic moments stumbled upon it in the library with zero expectations, and somehow this book turned out to be exactly what I didn’t know I needed. A surprise find, a hidden gem, and now a new comfort read.

Sure, it’s not flawless there are a few moments that might feel a little too neat or overly cinematic but honestly? That’s part of its charm. The story swept me away with its warmth, the vibrant New York energy, and characters who felt like they belonged in the corner coffee shop you always mean to visit. It gave me escapism with heart, twists with soul, and just enough sparkle to feel special without being saccharine.

By no means is this book perfect, but it is perfect for me.

I really enjoyed this, Hannah and Ward were wonderful together. Hannah is a tenacious publicist who didn't put up with Ward's crap! Ward is a grouchy bear because his knee isn't healing as fast as it is supposed to.

However, it did drag a bit during the middle and the twist (which was very easy to work out early on) should've been revealed much earlier than the 80% mark, just to see how it sat with the characters longer as everything started to coalesce with Hannah's ex. I think it also needed the MeToo storyline woven in better to build tension. It felt like it was thrown in but without seeing just how it affected Hannah more than we think it did at the start.

Thanks to HQ and NetGalley for the ARC.

This was a cute romance set in the big apple. Hannah works for a large PR firm and after splitting up with her boyfriend, seeks a transfer from the sunny west coast to New York. She’s kindly offered the chance to house sit in an apartment by Courtney, one of the influencers her company represents, but she’s warned about the grumpy neighbour across the hall. And it seems like balancing a new set of clients and dealing with an angry neighbour isn’t easy, especially when she is attracted to one of her clients. I enjoyed this book. The characters were strong and believable and the plot unfolded well. Thank you to NetGalley, HQ and the author for the chance to review.

What a delightful five-star read. This was one of those stories that has its ups and downs, Hannah has had it rough, and you don’t realise just how rough until a fair way through, there are some really sweet moments in this story, and some twists that will get you. Ward is just the biggest grump, but do you know what I am a grump when I’m in pain as well, so I got it. When you get Hannahs real story, you will be astounded at how strong she is, and this is great at so many things, there are so many parts that will just make you love this story.

Wow a great read from Melissa Hill. Can’t believe it’s 13 years since I read Something from Tiffany’s.

Our lead Hannah has had her heart broken and relocates to the Big Apple to save her career and heal her broken heart. But has she met her match when she meets Ward- an injured, moody and troubled nfl player.

Hill writes with humour to create a light and easy read. Looking forward to what stories come next.

Loved this book! A perfect slow burn! Loved getting to Know Ward and Hannah - it was the kind of story that whispers a soft yet perfect voice into the often loud world of Sports Romance. Must read - I was hooked right through to the end and constantly questioned what ending I was heading for - amazing job!

There's this pantomime villain ice hockey pro coming to terms with a potentially career ending injury. There's his PR influencer charged with polishing his tarnished image. There's her lurking ex - a major-winning golf pro - sleazy as you like. Then there's the adopted feral cat who seems to understand what needs to happen. A very enjoyable read.
