APOCALYPSE MEOW!After the cats launched their oh-so-adorable co-ordinated attack, the human's base of operations has fallen. Kunagi is knocked out and comes to only to discover that his comrades have been turned into cuddly kitties! Are there any other humans left, or has the world truly gone to the cats?!
Wendelstein was about to fall to the cats. The impregnable fortress was a stronghold where humans warrior had gathered. But even this place with all its security was no match for the cats! The fierce felines had evolved further and gained new powers. Like a cat toying with its prey, things grew more and more dire. Humans faced a true catastrophe!
It's rare to find a story which is a ridiculous as it is sublime. Nothing about this series should work beyond the initial premise yet they manage to create a narrative which is compelling and laugh out loud funny.
A new virus is spreading across the world. Rather than the usual zombie approach, this virus turns the infected into cats! Cue exposed bellies desperate to be rubbed, kitten eyes, and other nefarious tactics to lure unexpecting humans to their doom!
Kunagi, Kaoru, and Tsutsumi have been reunited but there is little time to relax before a significant hoard of cats descends on the museum they are using as a stronghold.
When the walls are breached all hope seems lost, especially with Kunagi knocked unconscious. The only hope lies with Jones, the stronghold cat with an ability to understand humans.
This volume was shorter in terms of the main story but included a lot more bonus material including a story that may or may not (100% may) be based on Squid Games.
I adore this series and I see from a bit of Googling that I am now up to date and will have to wait for volume 7 to be translated. Frustrating but its good to know that the story continues. 5 stars.
A cat's kneading: It's theorized they knead humans as a way of showing affection. There are a number of theories about why cats do this, from showing affection to marking their territory to relieving stress. When they were kittens, kneading their mother's teats when nursing would stimulate the mammary glands and help promote the flow of milk.
I was remiss in waiting to read this, since the anime season finale came and went without me already knowing what would happen. Oops! Well, it was two chapters, anyway. The next parts will definitely be season 2 (assuming it did well enough, which I HOPE would be the case!), though the last chapter (and bonus content) is a side story, I guess about a possible cause of the "Nyandemic."
I mean, yes, it's sort of magic-ish how cats are able to turn humans into cats just from touching them AND apparently don't need to eat or poop (that the characters have been able to see), but the "Cat Game" ACTUALLY describing the process as magic feels... I don't know... not really apocalyptic somehow? Like, how many apocalypses involve MAGIC, in the history of fiction?
(Apparently, more than my reading habits have encountered. The majority of what I've read involve zombies, because failure of imagination and/or poor labelling.)
This is a great series. It's mostly just really silly. But this volume actually almost brought a tear to my eye. It was an emotional moment with a huge loss. But then I remembered the context and it all felt so unserious I just had to laugh. The bonus content at the end is also really good. I hope the Cat Game will continue and not be a one-off. I'm looking forward to the next volume.
had a fun time, but there's a lot less story in this volume than last ones and that was a bit disappointing. the last few pages were just character info sheets which, though neat, really felt unnecessary overall. Hopefully volume 7 is a bit more focused! 🫶🏻
How did this ridiculous zombie parody spoofing high-octane dystopian '90s manga make me wind up clutching my chest in genuine emotion at the climax of this arc? What happened here?
