Bigfoot #1

Bigfoot #1

Rate this book
Steve Niles and his fellow Creep, rocker Rob Zombie, team up to present this realistic take on the legendary Bigfoot. A monstrous ape-man is stomping around the woods of the Pacific Northwest, and he's not happy with mankind. Bigfoot also offers master craftsman Richard Corben a return to his true horror roots as he fully renders the imposing beast as only he can. Niles. Zombie. Corben. Bigfoot. What else needs to be said?

STEVE NILES is one of the writers responsible for bringing horror comics back to prominence, and was recently named by Fangoria magazine as one of it's "13 rising talents who promise to keep us terrified for the next 25 years."

Niles is currently working for the four top American comic publishers - Marvel, DC, Image and Dark Horse. He got his start in the industry when he formed his own publishing company called Arcane Comix, where he published, edited and adapted several comics and anthologies for Eclipse Comics. His adaptations include works by Clive Barker, Richard Matheson and Harlan Ellison.

Steve resides in Los Angeles in his bachelor pad with one cat. While there's no crawlspace, there is a questionable closet in one corner and no one is quite sure what is hidden in there...but we have an idea.

My review

Not bad, this could be going somewhere. I'm not in love with comics, but if you like your comics laced with horror I would recommend it.

Nudity, foul language, bestiality, gore, children traumatized... the stuff of nightmares. This is not "Harry and the Hendersons" folks.
And why, pray tell, is the Sheriff hiding the true villain instead of arming the populace and taking care of this foul beast? Oh, that's right "guns" are evil but creatures that kill, maim, mutilate and kidnap are not. SMH

This is a pretty kickass, brutal horror comic! First issue and it just grabs you and drags you in! I’ve been a fan of Corben as an illustrator for a long time and he’s very much a master of macabre art, but then you through in some Rob Zombie and things really get going! Definitely interested in continuing this...

A Quick Horror Story

I bought this book because I love the dramatic illustrations of Richard Corben. This first book (the first of four) sets up the gruesome take - I can't wait to read what happens next!

I got this for free from Amazon, and it was my first experience reading a comic book on my kindle. The Kindle has a neat feature that allows you double tap any panel, and it expands to make it easier to see and read. I would not be opposed to reading additional comic books on my kindle. But probably not this series. I was not overly impressed, which probably has to do with me wanting any Bigfoots out there to be kind and gentle pescatarians like Harry from Harry & the Hendersons, and not human-eating monsters. If being co-written by Rob Zombie didn't already tip you off, this comic book has lots of violence, some boobies, and naughty language. Not good for the little ones, but fun for the adults! I probably would have been more into this if it had been a different monster, and not a Bigfoot, who I will always hope is out there somewhere smelling flowers and patting bunnies on the head.

I'm a bigfoot fan and believer so I thought why not? Great first issue! If you too like the Ole Squatch, Cabin stories, gore and some comic nudity with a little Munroe/JFK roleplay then check this out!

I'm not normally one for graphic novels, but thought I'd give this a go because of the subject matter. Some of the art is good, but the story (at least in this part) is pretty standard fare and didn't really grab me. It needed to do more to make me want to continue on with the series.

Rather puerile cartoonish graphics, with the ubiquitous big boobed bimbo going topless to maintain... what? Interest? Bigfoot himself sure wasn't getting it done.

Not bad at all for a kindle freebie. Super violent and graphic in every sense of the word. Thank you, Rob Zombie.

Bigfoot #1 is a lurid experience. It's entertaining, but I'm not particularly interested in reading other books in the series, if this is the extent of it.
