Gardening is one of those pastimes that I always want to improve on. I do not have particularly green fingers and I look in envy at my other family members producing impressive hauls from their various gardens and allotments. This year I have tried to bite the bullet and actually work with my garden a bit to try and grow some things. This book is definitely good inspiration for growing things in pots and other containers. I have various sad looking pots around my house and I am definitely going to be using some of the tips and ideas present here to try brighten up the place and improve the environs!
The book is very much a beginners guide (which is great for me!) approaching the topic in a nice stepwise manner, from the why to the how of container gardening, giving tips and hints along with highlighting common pitfalls. Is it a complete guide to the topic? No, but it doesn't pretend to be. It is a source of inspiration for aspiring container gardeners rather than a full almanack.
My main criticism is that gardens are an inherently visual exercise, and whilst the author does a good job of casting a vision in words I would appreciate more illustrations of the concepts being portrayed, especially on the design aspects of container gardening.
A good source of inspiration, well written and easy for beginners to follow!
I was sent a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
I'm new to container gardening and when I was asked to read and review this book, I jumped at the chance. I mean the book is perfect for beginners. It teaches you everything you need to know to have a beautiful productive garden. It talks about what plants to start with. You learn which are the easiest plants to grow in a container garden. You learn about the type of containers you should use for each plant. And next up, what type of soil and fertilizer should I use. And how often should I water my plants. It also talks about auto watering systems and the pros and cons of using an automatic watering system. You will learn how to look for parasites on your plants, and how to get rid of them. I learned about how to feed my plants and how often I should give them plant food. The author also recommends necessary gardening tools. The tools you need to keep your garden beautiful and productive no matter if you are growing vegetables for your family or just making a beautiful flower garden in your space. If you are new to container gardening I definitely recommend this book. I learned so much about my gardening by reading this book. I learned to keep notes on my gardening progress. I'm sure I'll be referring back to different sections in this book throughout my gardening journey.
This book is titled as the ultimate beginners guide to container gardening, but in actuality it should interest anyone that wants to grow, has grown, or is growing a garden with containers. Containers are ideal for small spaces, but can also be ideal for those that have space that only want to grow certain types of plants.
Container gardening, at times, feels like more work, but the journey is most satisfying.
I recommend this book for those interested in gardening, those that have been gardening, or anyone with a curious nature about gardening.
I liked this book a lot. It has a wealth of information on container gardening and gave me a ton of good ideas of how to plant and keep a garden in small spaces. It has info on which plants are good together and which aren't and soil requirements for various plants. I highly recommend it for aspiring small-space gardeners.
3/5 STARS! This was a simple & straightforward guidebook on container gardening. Perfect for beginners, easy to understand & follow. Good tips to get started. Loved the eco friendly tips & composting guide. Really a good how-to book! Thank you to the author for a free review copy.
This book has a lot of good tips and information on gardening techniques. I would not have thought to keep a journal. This is a great resource for anyone looking to learn more about gardening.
A really good resource book for anyone looking into gardening. I have learnt to journal and write about my plants and how they are doing, plus fix anything that needs attention.
