Rate this book
When love's on the line, the brave jump in with both feet...

Small town cop Clint Rivera can’t catch a break. His ex of two weeks is suddenly getting married, his dogs tore up his furniture, he’s getting evicted, and he’s out of beer. When he decides to solve his alcohol shortage by going to his ex’s engagement party, Clint winds up too drunk to drive himself home.

Enter gorgeous deputy-mayor Hawk Black, the man who constantly shows up unexpectedly and sends Clint’s body and mind into a tailspin with nothing but his whiskey voice and blue eyes. After months of patience, Hawk can finally seduce the man he’s been craving.

Clint’s day might not have started out well, but Hawk’s going to make sure it ends with a bang, preferably in bed. He’ll show Clint some rewards are worth the risk. With love on the line, Clint will need to decide if he can open his heart, tear down his shields, and jump in with both feet.

Holy Insta Love, batman.

This book is part of the All Romance Ebooks Alphas series.

But don't look for alpha males too hard in Jumping In. Clint, a cop with anger-management issues, is having a spectacularly shitty day. Invited to his closeted ex's engagement party, Clint comes home to two naughty puppies, a destroyed couch, an eviction notice, and spilled beer.

This is NOT acceptable.

So Clint crashes and gets pissed at the engagement party. Revenge is a dish best served cold. Or not.

But all is not lost: It's Hawk Black (that name just SCREAMS I'll fuck you hard!, does it not?) to the rescue.

Even as he's been sleeping with his douchey ex, Clint has been lusting after Hawk, the deputy mayor. Little does Clint know that Hawk wants him with an all-consuming, obsessive (bordering on creepy) passion.

Suspend Disbelief All Ye Who Enter Here!

There is not a lot in the way of plot or character development here. This is a short book (under 1,000 locations).

But there are two cute rescue dogs who send Clint oh-not-so-subtle-signals about his life; some rough, steamy action ; two big cocks (and I don't mean of the fowl variety); and a blindingly sweet HEA.

This is pure FLUFFY goodness, people. Put your shades on and get ready to smile.

******************************************

This, people. THIS!

And I'm the first to add it.

I feel like I've won the lottery or something.

I wanna see you raise your hands and say: FUCK, YES!

Are you having a crappy day?

Cause I've got to tell you, a few hours ago I was having a pretty shitty day. I was lazing around wondering if 4pm was too early to go to bed and, if it is, should I instead go purchase the largest box of wine I could possibly find?

Okay, maybe not that big. But you get my point. Day: crappy. Sleep: seems like a swell idea. Wine: perhaps an even better plan, but it would involve clothes and a trip to the supermarket. Boo hiss!

But then I remembered I had a new Cardeno C. sitting on my Kindle just waiting for my attention.

And so I read it. And it is fluffy. And it is a bit smutty. And it is good. And it made me smile.

And you know what? (You probably do.) I feel better. I'm still sitting here with a smile on my face. It didn't solve my problems, but it was cute and enjoyable and there's this little bubble of happiness in my chest now. Hell, I may now have the energy to buy a bottle of wine.

That's pretty much my review. Me, me, ME!

Okay, fine, I'll tell you one thing about the book. Clint has 7 inch cock and Hawk has an 8-1/2 inch cock. That's really all you guys need to know, am I right?

So if you're having a crappy day (or even if you're not) and you need a fast fluff injection, I recommend this novella. And I definitely recommend Cardeno C. in general--Cardeno's one of the best fluff providers out there.

Well, that definitely was not what I expected in a story for this series, but it was a pleasant and welcomed surprise. Yes, MC Hawk is the epitome of an "Alpha" but not in a fashion one would initially expect in a M/M romance short story. He showed up out of nowhere and completely plowed over MC Clint's lackluster, clueless, warm hearted life.

If you listen hard enough, you can almost hear Clint's soft, breathless, "My hero."

Wow, this was seriously some Gays of Our Lives insta-love on steroids, but was so short that it didn't come across as believable.

Plus, if I'm being honest, it made several of The Gays seem the slightest bit cray cray.

Clint broke up with his closet case, had to flee town for two weeks, then came home and started kicking holes in the drywall of his apartment.

Clint's closet case ex, Ewan, had his engagement party two weeks after said breakup, then expected that they can keep having sex. (Uhh, 'fuck her,' and I don't mean his future bride.)

Hawk Black (that name, ugh, not a fan) 'saw' a guy, sold his home and moved like eight states over to 'love' the guy he'd never even spoken to at that point.

So yeaaaaah, itty bitty cray cray, IMHO.

Then there were near immediate "I love you's" thrown around within the hours of 'the revelation,' followed quickly by unprotected sex.

Nope, this one wasn't for me and, while the writing was good, the story line felt more stalker than love at first sight.

All that being said, this one came in around 2.5 *hide-your-bunnies* stars.

3.5 HEARTS--Officer Clint Rivera is having a very, very bad day.

So bad it feels like the universe is against him. Why?

He's being kicked out his apartment, his closeted ex-lover--who he wasted many months on--is suddenly getting married after two weeks of leaving Clint. And this cheating douchcanoe had the audacity to send Clint an invitation to his engagement. After internally raging, he returns to his soon-to-be ex-home to find it destroyed by his lovely dogs.  This would drive a man to drink an ice cold stiff one, but he's out of that too after a clumsy catastrophe that caused all his bottles of beers to break.

He'd had enough. Life keeps taking the piss, so he figures his ex owes him all the alcohol after the last couple of shitty hours he's had.

Enter hunky deputy mayor of Clint's small New Mexico town, Hawk. The 6' 6" blue eyed man seems to always be underfoot whenever Clint least expects it. If only he could get over his crush on the hunky, boner inducing man. The best he can manage around Hawk is be adorably tongued tied. Besides, Clint's pretty sure Hawk's straight. Especially with his luck, the best he could do is keep Hawk in his spank bank.

Enter a boozy night where he's rescued by a patient, possessive stalker of a knight in shining armor: Hawk!

Hawk has changed his entire life waiting for his man to be free of that douchecanoe. And he swoops in just like a Cardeno C. possessive hero can do.

We're talking hot dirty talking, sweet courting and possessive insta-love.

And hot sex all over the place once Hawk gets his hands on his man. *coughs* *hint* An appliance might need to take a pregnancy test after a really rocking time.

I'm still fairly new to this author. Cardeno's contemporary seems to do it for me. I wanted possessive alpha that is intense in getting their man. It's exactly what was delivered. It's short enough not to bore and read in between novels.

Some of it was super quick. I mean the coupling lasted for a weekend before we're plopped into a HEA. Something tells me they're going to stick together forever and ever.

And if Clint ever gets second thoughts... well Hawk is just going to have to show him what his amazing tongue and "eight and half inches" can really do.

Newsflash: A fucking lot.

And I'm not mad at it.

Recommended for smutsters who want to read something possessive, hot and sweet all at the same time.

You know, when you're in a mood. ;D

I’d like to believe that I’m mostly a fairly discerning reader.

And then there are times that I like what I like and I can’t entirely explain why…but I do.

Jumping In is insta-love at it’s finest. It’s alpha males at their alphaest. It’s growling and owning and overbearing. It is reminisent of Kristen Ashley books. Shit, one of the MC’s name is Hawk…HAWK! You cannot get MORE Kristen-Ashely-esque than that.

And it was EVERYTHING. I loved it. Well…I ate it up at least. And I smiled. And I was satisfied. And what more can you ask for?

Clint…big-hearted small-town cop who gets dumped.

Hawk…dream-man small town deputy mayor who decides to stake his claim on Clint.

The situations, the dialogue, the story are all fairly ridiculous…and they are delicious. Over-the-top…and just right. Hot…(Cardeno C writes some of my favorite sex scenes…) and tugs at your heartstrings.

It was the perfect little read…for me.

Imagine a tall beefy guy you've been drooling over telling you on your first hook-up 'oh yeah and by the way I've been stalking you for months and I kinda love you, let's get your shit and move in with me, we're gonna have a great life',

kinda crazy, right??

"Clint pawed at his groin. “I have a great dick.”

“I’m sure you do, baby.” Hawk licked his lips, making Clint whimper. “And I’ve been waiting a long time to get a look at it.”"

🟢 Cop / deputy mayor
🟡 Small town
🔵 Insta love
🟣 Both gay
🟠 Age gap 28/38
🌶️ Sex was great, simple, hot; rimming, oral, penetrative; they're vers but only t/b here

This setting right along with the main characters and their love story absolutely demands a full-length book.

Clint is a cop and lives alone with his dogs when he gets the news he's going to be evicted. He gets drunk at his ex's engagement party and hooks up with Hawk, who's a deputy mayor and a prominent figure in this town. There's a story there for both Clint and Hawk and it goes much further than what we're being told and it'd be great if I could read more about it.
I'd dive in with vigor, this whole setting really did it for me.

“So on top of being gorgeous and smart, you had a powerful career and tons of money and you decided to move to Hawthorne, New Mexico, to take up with me?”
“Yup.” Hawk wrapped his hand around Clint’s dick. “Best decision I ever made.”
“You’re insane.”
Lying on his stomach, Hawk put his face in Clint’s lap and said, “I prefer to think of myself as a romantic.”
“Fine. You’re an insane romantic.” An incredibly sexy insane romantic.
“Insanely romantic.” Hawk lapped at Clint’s hardening cock. “I like that.”

This was kind of crazy and fun, but it really needs more than just a few pages. I'd like to know more about Clint's past and him coming to this town, his dl relationship with that twat, then Hawk and his thought process and decisions for the future when he first saw Clint and moved here because of him.

We didn't even get a proper ending. I just feel robbed, I wanted to see more of Hawk proudly claiming Clint in front of townsfolk and I wanted to see Clint's ex eat his heart out. I wanted to see some more of that domestic bliss and for Cliff to really fall in love.

“Listen to me carefully. I didn’t say the words while you were with that guy out of respect, but that shit’s over and I’m done holding back.” He bit Clint’s lower lip, hard. “I want you. Do you finally hear me?”

Yes! I wanted to experience this for Clint and not just in a one weekend hook-up.

Overall this novella was pretty great. I'd much rather read 400 pages of Clint and Hawk instead of some of the shit books I read on the regular.

5 Stars

I love Ezekiel Robison. I love his character voices (with extra kudos on bringing Hawk's "whiskey smooth and gravel rough" voice to life) and his easy way of narrating so the story just flows seemingly effortlessly into your ears. Ezekiel absolutely brings out the passion, humor, and romance in this.

4 Stars

This is a short (super quick), fun, sexy, humorous novella with what seems like insta-love to the nth degree...but it's a hell of a lot deeper than that.
“Seems like your people reading skills just short out when it comes to me.” Hawk tipped Clint’s face up. “Why is that?”
“You know why,” Clint said, seeing no point in playing games. He was at Hawk’s house for one reason and they both knew what it was.
“You want me.” Hawk leaned down and brushed his lips across Clint’s jaw. “Not the same way I want you, but it’s a start.”
At twenty-eight years old, Clint wasn’t a stranger to the concept of going home with a man to screw. Hawk Black probably had close to ten years on him, so he had to know the score too. Which meant he had to understand that the things he was saying, the intensity with which he was looking at Clint, and the tenderness in his touch weren’t standard fare for a hook-up.

Told from Clint Rivera's POV, the story takes place over a weekend that starts off monumentally bad, but ends up happily ever after.

I loved it.

At just under two hours listening time, this audiobook is a perfect story for a long commute, running errands, or needing a sweet break from it all.

Clint just got dump not long ago and now his ex is getting engage... with a woman. Eck! Meanwhile, Clinton is aware of his super hot boss attractiveness, but definitely not going there.

Hawk, the boss in question definitely surprise me. When he decided to make his move on Clinton. He went all out. Finding out that Hawk fell in love with Clinton at first sight and decided to move to the town and basically waiting for his chance to serenade Clinton is unbelievable, but have a certain appeal to me. I enjoy this kind of insta-love short read, no matter how OTT it is.

On the upside I've learned something about my self. I really, really hate writing reviews for books that I didn't enjoy. I know...I'm not alone. I've been procrastinating and putting this one off. Seriously did you know I have a million and one things that I need to do before I can get this done...ok, not really but I wish I did.

So here goes short version. In theory this sounded good, cute a nice feel good story about love at first sight...insta-love, whatever term you want to use. I was ready to settle in for a cute feel good read that would leave me sighing happily and smiling. Sadly that did not happen.

In execution what I got was a story about a small town deputy who had the day from hell crashed his ex's engagement party because even though he was sent an invitation he wasn't actually suppose to go, got drunk and honestly I don't blame him. If I'd had his day I'd have been heading for the bar as well. Then he ended up being taken home but the deputy mayor whose name was Hawk Black and let me just say we're not having this conversation because I've deleted it twice. Anyways, so Hawk Black who is the deputy mayor and laid eyes on Clint once, then proceeded to close his business as a political and managerial consultant in DC and move across the country from Washington DC to New Mexico based on seeing a guy once to pursue him..."HELLO!!! Can we say STALKER!" and this is where the story went from cute and fluffy to a big old clusterf*ck of a train wreck for me.

I needed not to know this...If dear, sweet Hawk Black had moved to New Mexico for the job and discovered that Clint floated his boat, I would have been all over this. I know it's just one teeny, tiny, little detail but for me it's a biggy. It's the detail that took this from aaaahhhh!!!! to eeeewwww!!!! Because not only did he move half-way across the country to pursue Clint but he basically continued to stalk him and then picked him up when he was drunk under the pretense of taking him home but instead took Clint to his place to 'sober him up' so they could have copious amounts of sex...what-the-hell? Where's the relationship?

Ok so now that I'm over my little hissy fit about this story. I just want add that while this story obviously didn't work for me, I know it worked for a lot of other people so at the end of it all am I saying this is a bad story...no, it's simply not the story for me. I've read a few other stories by this author and I've loved them and I plan on reading more. This for me is a case of we all got the same words and just didn't read the same story.

3 liked-it-stars!! 💕. It was ok.... felt too short and too insta-love to me 🙄.. but then a novella doesn't really have the option of a slow-burn romance 💘. Nevertheless, it was steamy and low angst.. perfect for a quick read. 👍

I want Hawk Black for me! Yes, a stalker, pushy, determined, great lover and a KEEPER!

HAWK is a keeper people!

Clint came home from his camping trip after a broken heart. His ex was getting married, to a woman!
Okay, scratch that, Ewan is not even important!

Let's see how Hawk mending Clint's broken heart by telling him everything he had done for about two and a half months, yeah, stalking, just because Clint is so sweet and have a heart for broken puppies...Oh, how sweet...!!!
And I approved that!
Hawk is so freakin' sexy and determined, and he loved Clint!
Yes, it's love at first sight...I didn't mind that, in some conditions, that's acceptable!
And don't argue with me, because I'm always right! Nods!

And Hawk liked playing DOWN & DIRTY! What's not to love?

Read this book. What's to wait? And this is Cardeno C.. Hands down!

3.5 stars harshly not rounded up!

This was cutesy, sweet, sappy luuurve! No idea who was meant to be the "Alpha" - neither hero was particularly macho or anything, maybe I'm being unjust, as I enjoyed this alot, but it was for sure not what I expected. Plus Clint was just too gooody good. I mean, his boyfriend had clearly been cheating, was getting married, where's either the hurt feelings, the hurt pride or the mega pissed off? They lasted all of ten seconds and were gone. Shallow much? And Hawk? Good lord man, hold it in, you sound like a stalker and/or a teenager with a superstar crush. But I did enjoy it.

The lawyer and the deputy are sizzling!

Hawk, the lawyer moved to town for one reason, Deputy Clint. Clint is 29, and a big, hot hunk. Hawk, 39, taller and bigger, rescues drunk Clint from the reception. Clint’s ex, Ewan is engaged, already ! Hawk takes Clint home to woo him, and declare his intentions. Clint is leery, but Hawk is serious, only Clint will do. Our men are terrific, have high sex drives and are a perfect fit.
Enjoy !

Sexy, humorous, OTT love, and worth every second spent reading it. Cardeno C really hit the right notes with Jumping In. The title is apt for the story and I liked both characters. And dogs, who can't help but like a guy, or two? And dogs with a guy or two? Aww...

Second time through, but in audio this time. I’d forgotten how insta-love and possessive of a main character this has. I kept thinking it was Mary Calmes (not a criticism- I love Mary’s books!). It’s short but fun and sexy.

Jumping in by Cardeno C is a bite sized morsel packed with a juicy punch. Savory and sweet. Such a great short story. It had me craving more right from the start.

I'm usually not a fan of insta-love or stalkerish behavior but it totally work with this story....
I loved Clint & Hawk. I found them to be interesting, intense and oh so yummy. CC was able to give us quite a bit about them in a short amount of time. Down on his luck Clint is sweet and vulnerable. While confident Hawk is a take charge alpha male. When Hawk finally gets his chance with Clint, he's a man on a mission! He will do whatever it take to make Clint his (and I mean whatever it takes!) Since the feeling is completely mutual it didn't take much convincing. The chemistry and heat between these guys is sizzling... Add that to the over the top declarations of love and I was completely enamored! It all just worked for me. It made me smile, swoon and laugh. I would love Jumping In to be made into a full size novel!!

I love a good alpha male just as much as the next female, and when it's written by Cardeno C., regardless that it's way too short and I could've kept reading forever, I had to jump right in. I can guarantee that Hawk Black is more than worthy of being called alpha, and Clint Rivera sure got lucky, along with having his hands full, in more ways than one.

Poor Clint. I honestly had to laugh at him, although it really wasn't funny. He's just gotten back from a two week camping trip only to discover his closeted ex's engagement party is that night, he's been evicted because his landlord is selling and he has two weeks to find a place, his dogs ate his couch, his coffee table, and the big-screen TV's power cord, and to top it off the refrigerator falls over and smashes all of his beer. I think I would have headed to my ex's engagement party too.

What follows is more than Clint could have ever imagined, and exactly what his hidden romantic heart needs. I absolutely loved this short story, except for the “short” part. I could've kept reading about Hawk and Clint for quite some time to come. They're sexy, they're hot, the sex is to die for it’s so steamy, and they're both just downright adorable. Well done, Cardeno!

Sometimes you just need a good, short, insta-love story and this one works.

Hawk Black's a unique-styled Alpha, one who's not beating his chest, just stepping up and taking control of a new relationship to move it forward, and fast! Clint Rivera is a nice guy who's ready for a committed, romantic relationship but, until Hawk, has settled for lonely or the last jerkwad who was only interested in closeted sex.

Loved Clint and was utterly charmed by Hawk. Yes, it was a bit fast but it was SO feel good. It's steamy yet romantic and just the perfect interlude I was looking for in the moment. No angst, no misunderstandings...just two people who were lucky to find each other at the right time.

Ahh... another book where the main character simply knows what he wants and doesnt do anything stupid to achieve his goal. It is love-at-first-sight story, and what Hawk (or Clint as well) does might raise eyebrows, but I think it fits the title, Jumping In.

The spectre of the ex, which Clint broke up only 2 weeks before, is there, and it brings up a bit spice for otherwise very sweet book. It does have a feeling of a bodice ripper story, though.
