#1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Jackson puts a sexy, twisty, gender-reversed spin on Fatal Attraction in this addictive tale of escalating obsession, betrayal, and violent delights for readers of Peter Swanson, Allison Brennan, Carola Lovering and Stacy Willingham.
He swore he’d never let her go. She should have believed him.
Brooke Hastings is ready to end her six-week affair. Gideon Ross is charming and sexy, but he’s not worth throwing away her marriage and family for. So she breaks it off, hoping Gideon will understand.
He doesn’t. Gideon insists that he and Brooke are meant to be together. Finally, he backs off, but not before issuing a promise: he’ll never let her go.
Six years later, Brooke wants to believe it’s all behind her. Her family has survived intact. Gideon has vanished.
But the fear hasn’t disappeared. Brooke can’t tell how much of it is paranoia, and how much is justified, but she’s worried. And maybe she’s right to be.
Because Gideon is a man who keeps his promises . . .

Today, neck deep in murder, her books appear on The New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly national bestseller lists.
With dozens of bestsellers to her name, Lisa Jackson is a master of taking readers to the edge of sanity—and back—in novels that buzz with dangerous secrets and deadly passions. She continues to be fascinated by the minds and motives of both her killers and their pursuers—the personal, the professional, and the downright twisted. As she builds the puzzle of relationships, actions, clues, lies, and personal histories that haunt her protagonists, she must also confront the fear and terror faced by her victims and the harsh and enduring truth that, in the real world, terror and madness touch far too many lives and families.
I didn't know it was possible to hate every character in a book, but I HATED every character in this book. If I could jump in this book, make them form a circle, I would roundhouse kick them all in the face with steel-toed boots on. 😒
Our Little Secret was a bit of a mixed bag for me. At first, I gotta admit, I was rolling my eyes a bit because the whole cheating spouse and creepy ex-boyfriend thing felt like something straight out of a soap opera. I mean, come on, can we get some originality here?
But despite my initial skepticism, I found myself getting surprisingly sucked into the story. It was like, once I started reading, I just couldn't stop. The writing style was super easy to breeze through, and before I knew it, I was zipping through the pages faster than I ever expected.
Sure, some of the plot twists were pretty predictable, but it was still kinda fun trying to guess what was gonna happen next. And even though I had my issues with the characters – seriously, none of them were all that likable – I still found myself getting weirdly invested in their drama.
That being said, the ending left a lot to be desired. It felt like everything just sorta wrapped up too quickly, you know? Like, I was left with all these unanswered questions, and it was kinda frustrating.
Thos book had its moments of excitement and suspense, but it also had its fair share of eye-roll-worthy clichés. If you're into drama and mystery, it might be worth a read, but don't expect it to be anything too groundbreaking.
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve picked anything up by Lisa Jackson. When I saw it on NetGalley being compared to Fatal Attraction - one of my favorite movies from the 80s - I quickly hit the request button. I was quickly disappointed.
This book annoyed me on so many levels. I strongly disliked every single character in this book. I wanted to climb through my Kindle and smack them all silly. They were not the sharpest tools in the shed. Seriously, not one even slightly likable character. Actually, I take that back. Shep, the adorable dog in this book was the only character I liked. Spoiler alert - nothing bad happens to him - thankfully!
Honestly, I almost DNF’d this book several times. Mainly due to the daughter. Beyond disrespectful and entitled. The way she spoke to her mother was enough to annoy me enough that I was willing to throw in the towel. I listened to the audio - which made the whininess 10x worse than if I had chosen the reading version. I found myself bored at times and became uninterested in the story.
The reason for the 2 stars…the narrator, January LaVoy (one of my faves), the short chapters and of course - Shep!
2⭐️ I forced myself to finish this book and I should have DNF’d it. It was too long, majority of the book was boring. Only the last 20 pages finally got interesting. The author completely rushed the ending. I don’t recommend picking this one up.
I did read through this book quickly, and the premise was interesting, but it just fell flat for me overall. The characters were all extremely unlikable, the plot lines weren't very believable, and I just found the characters too erratic and over the top.
Without spoilers, the actions of the main character Brooke don't really make sense. She feels threatened, and her daughter, whom she loves, is threatened, but she just simply chooses not to go to the police multiple times. She suspects her husband of hiding things but doesn't sneak onto his computer (which seems easily accessible in his study) to confirm her suspicions... she just let's it go. Her sister is an absolute basket case, and yet she doesn't cut her off. I just couldn't see anyone in real life being so naive and misguided.
The ending is rushed for the build-up as well. I did keep turning the pages because I was intrigued to see where the story would end up, but it was underwhelming. I feel like there were plot lines with loose ends.
I did like that the story was fast-paced. The dog Shep (who is a retriever and not a Shepard) also made the story worthwhile.
TWs: Miscarriage, Attempted SA, Voyeurism of a Minor, Infidelity.
Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Best selling author Lisa Jackson’s new novel, “Our Little Secret” is a dark and twisted story of obsession and betrayal. Full of suspenseful twists and turns, it keeps you guessing until the very end!
Brooke Hastings knows her brief affair with charming and sexy Gideon Ross was a mistake. Hoping to work on her relationship with her husband and keep her family together, Brooke ends it with Gideon, but Gideon won’t go down without a fight. Soon, Brooke is receiving messages threatening her life and her daughter’s. Finally, after one intense altercation, it seems Gideon has backed off, allowing Brooke to regain her life. But then Gideon shows up again, this time with a new identity, engaged to Brooke’s sister. Desperate to keep her family safe, Brooke knows the only way to stop Gideon is to end him- for good.
Brooke is the sole narrator and protagonist of “Secret”, relatable as a married mother of a teenager looking for an escape, and retaliation against her husband, which she finds in the arms of a younger man. Once Brooke ends the affair and the threats start, the twists begin, as Jackson’s impeccable writing starts the speculation as readers scramble to guess who is behind all of the drama.
The relationships are complex, between Brooke and her husband, Brooke and her daughter and even Brooke and her estranged sister, and the entanglements between all of them added to the intrigue. Was Gideon responsible? Could someone else be involved? For someone who reads this genre almost exclusively, it’s always a treat when the ending is both surprising and unexpected and Jackson’s “Secret” delivered this in spades.
Jackson is known for her series of novels, such as “New Orleans” and “Alvarez and Pescoli” and “Secret” is one of her few stand-alones. Although her name is well known to me, “Secrets” is one of the only novels I have had a chance to read by the popular author, but it is a mistake that I immediately plan on rectifying. Jackson builds quite a puzzle for the reader to solve, thick with emotional tension and obsession, and “Our Little Secret” was a delightful read from start to finish.
“Our Little Secret” is a thriller with nods to “Fatal Attraction”, and it will captivate long-time Jackson fans, and those of us who are just joining the Lisa Jackson fan club. It is difficult to write a novel in this genre and keep it both suspenseful and surprising but Jackson’s fluid writing and creative character development do both, and more.
I wanted to love this but the characters were all annoying. The fmc was annoying and naive. Plus spoiler ahead: the daughter was fourteen dating a nineteen year old guy. The parents didn’t even care about that at all. The story was kind of boring and fell flat for me. Not my favorite thriller.
This book was pretty: meh I found the characters all super annoying. Brooke just seemed very…. Out of touch? She was way too chill with everything in the beginning and had questionable actions throughout
Letting her daughter talk to her that way?!? NEVER. I gasped. And her sister treating her like shit?!? Why was Brooke a dumping ground and why didn’t she care? Or have a backbone? At least she didn’t react the way I think a normal person would. And I’m supposed to believe her daughter HAPPENED to skip school and HAPPENED to see her mom meeting Gideon and decided to follow them, get a burner phone, and send her mom secret texts about it??
Gideon was just …… unpleasant. Since there was a part one and part two I expected more from the storyline but it kind of just fell flat. It felt like every cheating husband/affair novel.
Also- this felt longer than it needed to be.

I haven’t read a Lisa Jackson book since 2018 and this is book #7 for me from her. This had me very hooked from the very beginning and it was more like Fatal Attraction only with the roles reversed. Lots of twists throughout which I enjoyed. I found myself shaking my head a few times like “really” but found myself not being able to put it down!
Is this book actually real or is this supposed to be a parody of a main stream thriller novel? This is the worst book I have ever read. I actually laughed out loud at how ridiculous some of the characters were. The entire thing was so predictable. There were story lines that ended up going no where. I have no idea how this actually got published. I would give this zero or negative stars if it was possible. Horrible book.
He swore he’d never let her go. She should have believed him. Right off, we are introduced to Brooke and her family. After her marriage to her husband Neal almost ended, they decided to try again, meaning that Brooke would need to end her affair with sexy Gideon who she met when she and Neal were separated. Gideon helps Brooke get back to being herself, and in the process of their sleeping together he clearly becomes more attached to Brooke than she is to him. Letting the affair go on for far too long after she and Neal decide to "fix" things Brooke decides to finally end it with Gideon. What she doesn’t expect though is that Gideon will be so unwilling to let her go. Vowing that they will be together and she will be his the two end their relationship in a very toxic manner.
Brooke doesn’t think that Gideon would ever carry out his threats... but then she notices that things are moved in her house and starts to feel that someone is watching and following her. It appears that he may have been true to his word after all. Throughout the book, as things progress and Brooke struggles to piece together if her nerves from hiding this secret from her family are getting the best of her and making her paranoid or if it really is Gideon trying to find a way back into her life. Mixed with issues from her teenage daughter and her deadbeat sister always looking for money, Brooke struggles to know if what is going on is in her head is really happening or not.
Judging by the blurb, the story sounded interesting, but I also thought it was a bit predictable. The "scorned lover" plot has been done in so many books, so many times before that I just wasn’t sure this would be any different...but surprise...IT WAS! I think what made it different was "unreliable" Brooke. She was a great main character but, as I said she’s unreliable. Unreliable in the fact that she really never trusts anything that she is thinks or sees, so how are we, the readers, supposed to relate to that? There was also the fact that Brooke was an "airhead". She often forgot that she was the one who invited the Gedeon relationship into her life to start with...a man she barely knew and was actively working to hide the entire affair from everyone. True, she was being stalked and treated like no one deserved to be treated, but she was the one that invited him in and kept him around way longer than she should have. Plus, she refuses to tell anyone else what is going on, or what she believes is going on, which just puts her into this tight spot where she simply drives herself crazy...along with those of us reading this book.
It was NOT a bad story in itself...when I thought I was wrong I found that I was right...especially at the end, so not everything was totally predictable. The characters could have all used an "attitude adjustment". For the most part, they were all moody, downright mean, and just terrible in the different things they did and said to one another. Brooke’s teenage daughter was the worst. She was just over-the-top blatantly rude and disrespectful. We "heard" Brooke saying over and over to her, "You need to change your attitude". I thought "you need a good hard slap up-side your head. That would change your attitude the quickest":)
I've read a lot of Lisa Jackson's works and have always enjoyed them. I would definitely recommend checking this one out if you're a Lisa Jackson fan ... or if you just enjoy a good mystery, thriller filled with explosive relationships that focus on issues of infidelity, mental health, and how far you would be willing go to try and keep things from changing. if that's "your thing" then this is your read.
This book was really good. This is the second book I have read by Lisa Jackson. If you like mystery and thriller page turner, you will definitely love this book. I won this book in goodreads giveaway and Lisa Jackson
What a twisted ride! I can always depend on Lisa Jackson to deliver a gripping, suspenseful, unputdownable read!
After trying to end things with her lover, Gideon Ross, Brooke Harmon finds herself in a situation that's impossible to get out of. Gideon will not let her go. He is obsessed and will rather die before letting her leave him. Things get out of control when Gideon starts stalking Brooke, showing up to her home as a pizza delivery guy, and even watching her daughter. Brooke needs to put an end to this without her family finding out or, even worse, getting hurt.
This book is quite the page-turner! It is riveting and I was consumed from the very start! Gideon is a nut job, but his character makes the book so interesting! What makes the book even more interesting is that every character has their own secrets! Unfortunately, the ending was predictable, however the story as a whole was so good that the lackluster ending didn't do much harm, in my opinion.
Thank you NetGalley, Kensington Publishing, and Lisa Jackson for such a suspenseful ARC!
The first 3/4 of the book was too long and the last 1/4 was too short. And the main character was so effing stupid. A call to the police would have solved the whole problem
I went into this book with no expectations and that’s a good thing I did. This was far too “typical, basic, and yes PREDICTABLE” for me. Brooke has a short affair with, Gideon. Even though she was married to Neal, and had a 14 year old daughter, Marilee. However she quickly realized she didn’t want to throw her family away for the deranged, Gideon so she ends it and surprise surprise Gideon is not taking no for an answer. So behind the stalking, obsession, violence and we have all read them before next happenings. I absolutely saw every single “twist” coming and the ending was the icing on the eye rolling cake. Oh I shouldn’t forget Brooke’s unbearable sister who just wraps up the array of totally unlikeable characters. Selfish, cheating, lying, whining, unbearable characters. I thought I was going to sound insane when I was thinking The only character I like in this book is the dog however, I found out I was not alone after I saw some reviews that said exact of the same thing and then I just had to laugh out loud.
Yes, this book was an easy fast read however, as I said, maybe several times it was completely predictable. All the characters were unlikable. I wasn’t rooting for anyone in fact it was the exact opposite. I just wanted it to be over and I want all the characters to get exactly what I thought they deserved in my mind so in my opinion, is this a book that you should run to the shelves and buy quickly absolutely not but maybe it will be for somebody it just wasn’t for me.
Thank you to the author, Netgalley, and Kensington Publishing for the ARC.
Two wrongs don’t make a right as Brooke soon finds out. In a tumultuous marriage filled with infidelity and lies, she starts an affair with a man who turns out to be extremely dangerous. As the deadly obsession grows and Brooke’s world continues to unravel, her sanity is questioned. Will she and her family escape this predator’s game alive?
As a fan of stalker thrillers, this story had me hooked from the very beginning! With a cast of mostly unlikeable characters all harboring immense secrets, it’s impossible to know who to trust.
Our Little Secret is an utterly bingeable popcorn thriller that’ll have you holding your breath and wildly flipping pages.
This was soooo close to a 5 ⭐️ read, but the way the ending came together left some things to be desired. It felt a bit rushed, and I still had some questions. It is the type of book I’ll think about again after reading it, which few are.
If you’re looking for a gripping domestic thriller that’s both suspenseful and twisted, this is definitely the book for you!
4.25 ⭐️ rounded down. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the opportunity to read this digital ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
Really awful and SOOO far fetched that it’s unbelievable. So she sleeps with a man (cheating on her husband) for months. Then when this man shows up as her sister’s fiancée, she can’t decide whether it’s him or not. The entire story was so lousy. What a waste of time. I kept thinking it might get better - but it got worse.
While this was a quick and easy read, it fell flat for me in several ways. First, I couldn’t stand any of the characters. They were all so unlike able and selfish. I found myself rolling my eyes at a lot of their actions and just not really caring what happened to them. Why not go to the police when someone is stalking you and putting your family in danger? Why keep hiding the bracelet instead of just throwing it away? Why keep allowing your sister into your life when she’s clearly only thinking of herself? Too many questions and so predictable at the same time.
I usually enjoy Lisa Jackson’s books, but this one just wasn’t for me. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review.
This book was riveting, start to finish! Affairs, stalking, murder. What more could a girl want? This one was hard to put down. I do wish there had been a little more to the ending but it was still very good.
This is a new author for me and, for the most part, I liked her and her writing style. This was a thriller but with a bit of "drama" thrown in. It made for a challenging read at some points, but overall, I liked it!
What I liked: 1. I felt like I knewthe characters for the most part. The writing style had a warm and fuzzy feel (especially the Christmas bits!). The dialogue and action were appropriate and got the story going and this was a solid foundation for the story itself. 2. The story was somewhat of a page-turner and there were tons of mysterious "cliff-hanger" type moments throughout the story. It wasn't "Oh my gosh!" scary or creepy, always, but it did make me feel uncomfortable a lot of the times. These added a lot to the novel experience. 3. The ending was hopeful and I was OK with that. I feel like the readers went through a lot of turmoil throughout the story, so I a story which was headed toward a "happier" ending was OK with me.
What I didn't like: 1. Whew. These characters were messy and cringe-worthy. There were affairs and stalking and a couple who were super annoying (Leah, Marilee). It made for a difficult time of truly pulling for (or caring about) anyone. I tried to be fair, but most of the time I felt like the characters deserved everything they got! (Hats off to the dog Shep who was perfect and innocent in every way!) 2. Things got less creepy for Part II when 3. The pacing seems a bit out of whack. Things were plodded along slowly and deliberately in the beginning, but then went off the rails in Part II (see above). This was kind of a gripe for me.
This was interesting and fun, despite the TERRIBLE people in the story. I'd give this a 4* rating and look forward to following this author more in the future.
I’ve read a few of Lisa Jackson’s books and I always like them. I haven’t picked one up in a while, and when I saw that she had a new book being released this month, I jumped on the chance to check it out. I’m so glad I did.
This book was filled with so many hateable characters. It’s perfect for this type of novel.
This book has it all…
🐾 Loyal Friend (🐶 - he lives btw) ❤️ 😤An annoying irresponsible little sister 🧖♂️A steamy affair 👤A shady husband 🪟A stalker 🧍♀️An angsty teenage daughter 💨Missing young girls 📞Mysterious phone calls 👥👥Scum bags and suspects galore
Usually I’d say with a list like this, the author is doing too much BUT, as is the norm with Lisa Jackson books, she puts it all out there and weaves a story you won’t want to put down. Twisty success!
I mean, what more could you want!? I don’t want to give anything away but just know there is soooo much drama! I was soooo invested. Head was spinning about different theories and thoughts on who Brooke should trust.
It’s rare to find an author who can literally throw anything to the wall and IT STICKS! Sit back, get cozy and enjoy!
Due for release in just a few short days, thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for the opportunity to read and review prior to release.
Lisa Jackson, a master of psychological thrillers introduces us again to morally grey characters with serious skeletons in their closets.
Brooke has stepped out on her marriage and has regrets, she wants nothing more than to put this liaison behind her. Unfortunately the man she had an affair with has other ideas. Gideon... wow, is a true creep, and this one will have you squirming a bit.
What I loved the most was that every character in this one has something to hide, and the suspense that builds as we expose every secret kept me guessing, along with turning those pages late into the night. This comes out on 6/25/2024 and will be popular, my advice... read it before someone spoils it for you!
I’m just a girl, standing in front of an author, begging her to stop having the main character heartily assert “Amen!” in situations where it doesn’t make any sense at all.
I loved this novel! My first Lisa Jackson read and I cannot wait to try more. This story had me hooked from the beginning until the end. Continuous suspense flowed through the pages. It's one of those plots you think you have figured out (and may have) but you still want to devour it. Intriguing, eventful, and plot driven there is no need for a bookmark. Once you start, you'll not want to stop. I was hoping for a bigger bang at the end, but I am satisfied with the story as a whole. Thanks to Kensington Publishing for an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I hope to read more like this one.
Absolutely addictive! Lisa, Jackson at her best. The suspense level stays high, from the first page all the way through to the end. Mystery, suspense, lies revealed, betrayal, and much more. You will find yourself asking, what would I do if I were…. A husband and wife who have lost their faith and one another, a daughter, at times, you may want to ring her neck, a sister who will drive you up the wall. Add the dog, and a stranger, and you have the perfect recipe for danger. Exactly how far will a mom go to keep her family together? What will she sacrifice? I guarantee, you won't be able to put this book down.
