Be Your Gravity

Rate this book
~Ezra~

When bartender Ezra first meets Micah under the pulsing lights of a Seattle nightclub, it feels like gravity shifts. Their chemistry is electric, but just as quickly, Micah disappears into the night, leaving Ezra with nothing but the memory of an encounter that never got to be more. Four months later, circumstance brings them back together, and Ezra takes the chance he never thought he’d get.
As their second chance transforms, Ezra finds himself drawn deeper, becoming a grounding force in a reality he doesn’t fully understand but is determined to navigate.
.

~Micah~

Micah has spent years believing he’s too chaotic and too broken for love, and has accepted that fate for himself. But Ezra sees past the walls he’s built, offering patience, steadiness, and affection he isn’t used to and still questions that he’s worthy of. As their bond deepens, Micah dares to hope for a future where he isn’t left behind.
But when the weight of reality catches up to them, they both must decide if love is enough to hold them through the storm.

Be Your Gravity is a tender, slow-burn, low-angst, hurt/comfort MM contemporary romance told in alternating perspectives. It's a story about unconditional love, acceptance, and finding beauty in the messy, complicated places we’d rather hide and realizing we’re still worthy of being loved there. HEA is guaranteed.

I loved both Ezra and Micah from the very first page and I also loved the author's writing.

This is a story of love through the good times and the difficult times. When Ezra learns of Micah's bipolar disorder he doesn't shy away, rather he seeks to educate himself so he can be the most supportive partner to Micah when the mania hits.

I have read several books with bipolar rep and this one felt the most informative about what it's really like for those with the diagnosis. It also felt the most gentle. It did not seek to sensationalise Micah's manic episode but focused on how Ezra stood by him steadfastly despite Micah inadvertently hurting him.

I adored all the side characters too and look forward to reading Luke's story.

This was a sweet and tender read despite the difficulties the MCs faced and I very much enjoyed it.

4.5! This book was beautiful, funny, and so so cute!!!
Immediately I loved both MCs. Their meeting and then re-meeting was perfect, especially when you read further on and find out why that needed to be the case. Ezra and Micah were such sweeties trying their damn hardest all the time for each other. I immediately adored them. The effort, the devotion, the love, the banter, all A+! The side characters rounded these characters out and added to the vibe. For how serious the themes in this book were it was also hilarious and sweet.

This book is low angst with insta attraction and a slow-burn relationship. The hurt/comfort was great, lots of sweet tender moments which I am an absolute sucker for, give me a good sob anyday. Plus a hospital scene? I'm being spoiled here! The first half is these men taking their time getting to know each other (which in today's age is a rarity it feels like so I was happy to see this in literature!), followed by the second half where we really get into the (external) conflict.

Personally I like a bit of realism in my books, and this delivered. The way Micah thought about his disorder was painfully relatable, being scared to make it anyone else's problem, feeling like he had to go it alone, not trusting anyone to understand or think he's worth the aggravation. You could tell (even without reading the authors note) that she is intimately familiar with mental illness. Ezra felt a little less realistic to me but this is a romance novel and we do love an ideallic MC who is perfect for his other half.

This book captured the crux of the struggle with mental illness really well and was detailed about in a way that really immersed me in the turmoil and kept me invested. I read this book in one sitting, I was loving them so much.

My only (minor) complaints were that the language was gorgeous, pretty, poetic, descriptive, and at times just a little too distracting. I love some good poetic prose, but I think there was just too much of it at times where I almost had to go back and re-read where were at in the conversation before. I think the book could have been a little shorter if some of that had been a little less dense. I also think some of the dialogue was a little too literary, as in I was reading it thinking that no one really talks like this, it kind of took me out of the book at times with how formal the language was. All that being said, for a debut the writing itself was really good and had good flow.

I do hope we get Luke and Davis' books because I loved the side characters and I enjoyed this story. I'd love to see more from this author. Fantastic book about love, trust, and healing oneself.

Be Your Gravity is the first book of the See Me Whole series. It’s a fairly fast-paced story filled with humor and love, but it also has some content that can be triggering to some readers. Things like homophobia and mental health issues; the content warning should be your first hint that this isn’t a sweet, easy romance. It’s sweet, but read the content warnings and decide if you are okay before diving in.

The songs on the playlist might also give you some ideas about where this story can take you.

In chapter 1, we meet Ezra, a bartender at Opal and Obsidian, a gay nightclub in Seattle. As he surveys the crowd, one person catches his eye almost immediately; Ezra sees a man moving through the dance floor crowd as if the music “flowed through his veins” and seems mesmerized by the guy. Even busy behind the bar, Ezra feels drawn to the guy. Moments later, he’s standing in front of Ezra at the bar. Ezra is flustered – he’s been caught looking, and he tries to avoid that. But this guy gmakes it difficult for Ezra!

The guy is Micah, and he flirts openly with Ezra. Ezra fixes him a cocktail called the Time Traveller’s Alibi, because one shot too many might make you forget the day. Then Ezra gets busy and Micah wanders off, but Ezra notices the void. Micah returns for a different cocktail and it seems they’re on the verge of getting together after Ezra’s shift is done.

But Micah winds up dancing with another guy, and their closeness tells Ezra that Micah won’t be available after he is done working.

Four months later, Ezra is working when a group enters, including Micah. Ezra’s excited to see Micah again, but somewhat disturbed when Micah acts as if he doesn’t know Ezra at all. His entire demeanor has changed – the first visit, Micah was full of energy; this time, he’s subdued. Eventually, Micah leaves the rest of the group at the table to talk with Ezra at the bar, and that’s when he reveals the fact that he suffers from bipolar disorder. The Micah Ezra first met was at the height of a manic episode.

From that point, things begin to develop between the two – while Micah tries to manage his bipolar disorder and Ezra tries to arrange times away from work for the two to get better acquainted.

The story is fast-paced, almost manic on its own, but it’s so well written that the roller coaster of bipolar disorder seems almost to have been pushed out of the picture – right up until another episode causes Micah’s group of friends and Ezra to worry.

You need to read this book, unless the triggers warn you away. The book ends with a happily ever after, so there’s that to counterbalance those triggers. All in all, a solid series starter. I have to give this book five full stars because it’s so well written and deserves to be read.

I loved Micah’s journey through this book. When he is not having an episode Micah is shown to have an at least fairly confident external facing side. As we find out more and more through the story his internal side is quite vulnerable and he doesn’t feel like he’s a very worthwhile person/partner. He seems haunted by aspects of his past that really weren’t fully under his control. I also really like that his growth and struggles weren’t linear, instead he has jumps of growth with some plateaus and backslides. I think the way Micah's growth happens in this book is a great representation of how overcoming certain aspects of mental illness happens in real life. It's not just following some perfectly straight road to recovery. It's a windy road with some pitstops along the way.

Meanwhile Ezra is a rock through the entire book. He never stops being caring towards Micah even when it hurts him. He starts out fairly fresh from a betrayal in a previous relationship that it is still affecting him and he has to learn how to trust again. He meets Micah, and while he feels an instant connection he also fears what that connection could do to him. This never stops him from trying though, and I like that he doesn't let his fear stop him from wanting to give his love to others. I also LOVED Ezra's best friend named Luke. Luke is a smidge of a himbo and is the most supportive best friend Ezra could've asked for.

The last thing I should mention is that this book is quite steamy. The spicy scenes are intense with passion and well described. If you're here for the slightly smuttier side of romance this won't disappoint. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Low angst, sweet, emotional, and so swoony. This MM romance was full of raw, authentic vulnerability. I laughed, I cried, and enjoyed every moment.

Ezra and Micah were easy to love and get invested in right away.
Their flirty banter and dialogue were fun to read. Sometimes love is chaotic, and life is messy, but it's about accepting yourself and the one you choose even when they aren't at their best and loving them anyway. The story's main focus is on relationship/character development, with a slow-burn build-up that was worth all the anticipation.

This book had such a powerful mental health representation and important message. Combating stigmas while enciting empathy and compassion. Everyone is worthy of love, especially when you're struggling inside.

wonderful

this book took me out for a whole day and i would ask it to do it again. i am so impressed and im obsessed with micah and ezra. this book had a sort of honesty and grittiness that is hard to come by, one that didnt feel forced or insincere in the slightest. both characters were so open, honest and vulnerable, it was a true delight. they were both mentally and emotionally intelligent, without ever coming across as pretentious. their wit, humor and banter were top tier. i loved watching them fall in love. the secondary characters were also genuine and an absolute delight, i truly couldnt ask for more from a book. i have already been telling everyone about it, and i will continue to. adored it! 🖤🖤🖤

DNF @ 10%.

Honestly, knowing my feelings on playlists in books, I know I should have stopped as soon as I saw one in this book.

The writing isn’t really clicking for me. It’s very dialogue heavy at times and feels like it’s trying to be philosophical.

It also isn’t reading much like a slowburn to me. We already have a first date and a reading of sexual induendo. Whereas I’m more a fan of them not even acknowledging their feelings toward each other for at least half the book to consider it a slowburn. Different strokes.

Micah is struggling to feel himself worthy due to his bipolar diagnosis, as no matter how hard he tries he hasn't managed to control his manic episodes. The descriptions and feelings about being bipolar felt particularly realistic. Ezra, a very sweet bartender, is determined to support Micah even when it is really difficult. The plot was good, and the HEA particularly heartfelt.

Loved that it showed that someone with a mental health disorder can and should be loved. Ezra was such a great character.❤️
