Malik's Law: A Dark Romance

Rate this book
Malik

I went to prison for her.

I’ve searched for her in every woman for thirteen years.

I don’t get attached. I don’t get distracted. I have one mission—find her and never let her go.

That was my plan…until I met Isla Knight.

My lawyer. A fierce, tattooed bombshell. She shouldn’t matter, but she does. With every glance, every accidental touch, she bends the prison bars I still carry within me. She makes me forget why I ever bled for someone else.

But Isla doesn’t know she’s walking into a trap. The thorns around my heart aren’t there by accident, and if she keeps pushing her way in, she might discover something I’ve kept buried even deeper than the woman I lost.

What happens when she discovers she’s not the only one inside my heart?
Or worse, what if there’s no heart left at all?

Isla

I should’ve walked away the second I stared into his eyes.

Malik Faris is everything I’ve spent my career avoiding.

Dangerous, violent, and irresistibly forbidden.

But somehow, I can’t stop watching him, and he never stops watching me.

He’s my client. He’s a killer.
So why does he feel like my only salvation?

Taking his case was my first mistake. Following him into London’s elite might be my last.
Because beneath the polished surface of charity galas and legal deals lies something far darker than I could have ever imagined.

I used to think I knew the difference between right and wrong. Between justice and survival.
But the truth hides in my shattered memories—ones that only Malik can unlock.
But will I survive remembering? And more importantly, will I survive him?

Damn!!! Where do I even start?? This book was wild!! I loved Malik. Hes crazy, messy, obsessive and unhinged.. you know all the good stuff. He's been searching for his girl for 13 years now and it turns out that.. *SPOILER*.. she's Isla. The woman he's falling for right now!

Like realizing that he's not only falling for his lawyer.. ahem he's a criminal and she's representing him.. 👀 but also she's the person he's been looking for all along was just CHEF'S KISS.

Like I knew that the ghost girl was Isla. My instinct told me immediately it was her.

The plot itself hits hard. It has a little bit of everything.. obsession, revenge, redemption but also many hurt/comfort moments between Malik and Isla.

Okay hear me out. I loved Isla. I loved that she wasn't a doormat. She was smart, badass and strong. Than woman knew what she wanted and she didn’t hesitate to walk away from Malik multiple times because she refused to settle for someone who was emotionally unavailable. QUEEN BEHAVIOR.

Watching Malik losing his shit for Isla, realizing he actually cares and loves her more than his ghost girl.. (before he even knows it's Isla! )
I WANTED TO SCREAM Y'ALL.

I had so much fun reading this. If you liked the Casella brothers then you will definitely like this one too.

4/5 ⭐️ only because i felt it was getting too messy sometimes. Like there were so many characters involved.. so many names flying around and I basically couldn't always keep up. Still worth it tho.

❗️ First things first: this book definitely needed a trigger warning, so consider this your warning. If you can’t handle on-page death, death in general, violence, graphic content, abuse, suicidal themes, and honestly… so much more, this book is NOT for you. ❗️

That said, the writing itself was very strong. The first 100 pages had me in a chokehold. I was fully immersed, locked in, do not interrupt me levels of invested. I was all in. ✨

At some point, though, there was just so much happening, and everything started moving incredibly fast, which pulled me out of the story a bit. On the flip side, it did keep things interesting.

Don’t go into this expecting a deep, slow-burn love story, but do expect a man who is absolutely feral. Like, unhingedly feral for her. The whole book also reads very cinematically; it genuinely felt like watching a movie.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this. 💕

There were so many parts that had me lol’ing but others had me swooning for Malik. He is brutal, ruthless and will not let anyone stand in the way of him getting his girl, Isla.

The world building was amazing. Like a literal movie playing in your head while reading. Absolutely LOVED Malik and his obsession with Isla. Can we talk about how he BEGS and his hand necklaces? 😍

“I've tried to walk away. I've done everything humanly possible to distance myself from him, and yet, the psychotic criminal places cameras in my home to watch me.”

"You may have slowed me down by removing the transmission from my car, but I'm coming for you, Isla. You belong to me. You have since that night in the graveyard."

"No matter where you hide, whatever hole you sneak into, I will always find you. I'm now a part of you, etched into your bones and tangled in your blood. You might think you're safe from me, but you're not.
It hurts, doesn't it? The thought that I'll die before I let you go. That no matter how hard you claw your way out, I'll always find a way to drag you back. So run Little Nycto, because when I find you, you'll beg me to destroy you, and piece by piece, you're going to fucking let me."

ARC REVIEW
DNF. Am I missing something?????? I feel like I am in the backseat of another book, but all the plot is racing past me at lightning speed. I feel like I should know something about what is happening, but don’t. Also don’t even get me STARTED on how this man is supposedly “obsessed” with this girl he met in an orphanage and he has been looking for her for years, yet is sleeping around with other women. Like what? But then he looks for some mark on each person to see if it’s her and when it’s not her still follows through. Like seriously?? Be fr. For these two things alone I’m having to DNF bc I can’t get into a book when I clearly am missing something and the MMC is not as obsessed as he should be.

My gosh this book had me in a chokehold! I’ve never read a criminal x lawyer book before and as if that wasn’t tense enough, the author was crazy and added this past love and sort of amnesia trope to go with it! The plot was amazing, it had a very natural flow and things started getting more and more intense until it exploded at the climax. I just love a good buildup that leads to a devastating climax. Because trust me, it was DEVASTATING. I totally didn’t expect that, though I do admit one of the parts was a little out of nowhere. This book has pretty dark themes please read the trigger warnings, because those intense parts really do pop out at you. As for characters, there’s the typical he falls first and harder. Or more like the classic dark romance; he becomes obsessed and stalks her until she falls in love with him too. But it’s also got a sad emotional aura because of their past. Malik has been chasing the girl he went to jail protecting for 13 years, he’s never let go until now… until her… Both Malik and Isla have extreme demons dealing with grief but they feel safe in each others arms and the voices quiet down. It’s really the most adorable thing. Makik is super over the top possessive and obsessive but he’s one for the dark romance girls! I really enjoyed this and give a 4.5/5

4.5 stars! I was obsessed with both of our main characters, the storyline and the twists and turns this book took.

Malik works for the mafia so automatically I loved this morally grey man. He is fiercely loyal to his boss, has slightly psychotic torture methods which again I love but he is also a massive protector by nature. In my opinion this was the perfect combination and only heightened the obsession I had with his character.

Isla is a top criminal defense lawyer and there is a reason she's so good at her job. She takes on cases that should be impossible to win and whilst her job takes up a large chunk of her life, she doesn't take on the cases she does because she wants to. Her dad is a judge, and this is basically her version of telling him where to shove it whilst also proving that she can be just as good as him. She's feisty, she's strong and she's also a little bit broken which did make her more relatable.

I loved that the relationship between these two is in fact forbidden. She becomes his lawyer to get him off a murder charge and he becomes obsessed with her. The way the past blends with the present had my jaw dropping at some points in this book and only enhanced the story. The secrets that are uncovered, the violence and the intensity were unmatched.

This is a possessive and obsessive type of love that will have you falling for the villain because let's be real red flags are everyone's favourite. I would definitely recommend!

So the FMC is a badass defense attorney, and the MMC is basically an assassin connected to the mafia. She is hired to clear his name from false allegations made against the MMC. But things take a turn when it turns out that our main characters have some mutual attraction toward each other.

There are just a couple of problems. The MMC has this obsession with finding a girl (now a woman) from his past whom he met in a shelter, and he also killed someone for her, which landed him in juvie. The FMC doesn’t remember things from her past, which she believes is due to trauma. It turns out that she has been used as a lab rat by her father, who keeps having people inject her with some kind of “drug” to make her forget things. And yes, the people involved with her father did nasty things (abuse and SA) to her and her sister while giving them this drug, then made them forget everything because of it.

Then the story just turns predictable as hell. It turns out that the girl the MMC has been chasing for the past fourteen years was actually the FMC. But the FMC doesn’t remember him because of the drugs. Also, the FMC doesn’t know that she was adopted, and her sister was never her actual sister. So it wasn’t exactly surprising that the FMC’s father was an asshole who subjected her to all of this. And yeah, while the FMC’s father was a judge in the courts of law, he was basically a criminal. Even the FMC’s ex had a hand in all of this!

Yeah, things go down from there, and the story lost the appeal it had in the beginning. Things became way too predictable. And the tug-of-war between the FMC and the MMC was just meh. When main characters turn into lovers, it sometimes just ruins the story. And the rest of the story is just filled with spice, which was also kind of boring!

Very good storyline with lots of potential, but there was just so much happening, and on top of that, everything was predictable and unfortunately kind of boring.

So I’m giving this 2/5 stars ⭐️

Malik was legit bat-sh!t cray cray. AND I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT (bwahahahhaaaaa).

So he basically has a thing for his lawyer, but there’s a HUGE plot twist! (Read it to figure out what 🤭)

We follow Malik and Isla (loved the FMC name btw, so many authors recycle the same name over and over *cough cough* “Sloane”)

Malik is a criminal which I mean, we knew this. Isla is his lawyer. The FMC is smart, quick witted, and stood up for what was right— not only in a legal sense but for herself too!!

We love a girlie with a backbone yeah?!

The emotional development of Malik was *chefs kiss* !!! The realization he had (IYKYK)… the way he fought for Isla! 🥲🥰

Totally recommend. Not 5 stars because there were some unnecessary bits, and some annoying parts, but overall I enjoyed myself.

Thank you Greys Promo & the author for the ARC! 🩷✨ (I will definitely be buying a shelf trophy after the holidays!)

Malik Malik Malik a sin so dark and delicious, on the hunt to find someone he went to jail for 13 years ago, but during the hunt gets into trouble and his boss hires Isla as his attorney.

Isla a defence attorney with a dark soul but she can't remember why.

When two dark broken souls collide what will happen..

I'm going to dive straight into the plot twist and the build up to it because it was such a good plot twist I just wanted more information.

And can I just say I loved that Malik was stalking Isla for Ezra from the start before she became his lawyer.

I wanted more of their backstory at the orphanage and what happened to make him go to jail for many years, like you kinda can understand what happens.

It was short fast and doesn't lack and spice, those pages are wet and nasty!
who knew two broken souls together could be so dominating.

But Ezra will always be my favourite Casella

Wow! This was amazing!! I devoured this… and left no crumbs!! I finished it in a day I was soo hooked! There was so much into this it was emotional and raw it was dark at times so many emotions for both Malik and Isla both went through so much in their life’s and neither of them ever thought they would see the light at the end of the tunnel! Sometimes it worth being broken together then broken alone. I love everything there was to this book the storyline, the characters the banter was great and my god the PLOT TWIST left and right I was always on my toes throughout this. I didn’t see half of what happen coming there were some things that start making sense but others also caught by surprise I love a good book that has me going “ NO WAY!!!”. Also who doesn’t love a begging man? I’ll watch Malik beg all day !! I loved the chemistry and the push and pull between isla and Malik you could just feel the love he had for her!!

Search for thirteen years and never stop looking for the girl he lost, this story follows a man who has survived brutal situations and become someone others genuinely fear. She is his attorney, caught in the middle with missing memories, hidden truths, and lies that wrap around every chapter. The tension is addictive, the chemistry is intense, and the twists are the kind you never see coming. This was so good, a completely gripping read from start to finish.

Both haunted by their tragic pasts, where one can’t forget and one can’t remember. Malik and Isla are two dark souls with urges only they can fulfil for one another where questions are asked and seemingly answered without words as their actions speaks louder. The danger, lies and deceit hit way too close to home and it all prowls just below the surface as old memories begin to take shape and the betrayals hurt even more the second time around. Malik’s Law is an intriguing, intense, descriptive read, please be aware of the trigger warnings. Thanks to the author for opportunity to read and review her work.

🎶 “All of this silence and patience, pining in anticipation. My hands are shaking from holdin' back from you (ah, ah, ah)” 🎶

Malik Faris (H) has spent thirteen years searching for the woman he once went to prison for, only to find himself unexpectedly drawn to his new lawyer, Isla Knight (h). Isla knows Malik is dangerous, yet she cannot shake the pull he has on her or the sense that he holds the key to memories she has long buried. As Malik’s past threatens to swallow them both, their connection deepens into something neither of them can control.

“Has someone been threatening you?”

“That,” I point to the scrunched-up note, “is my business, not yours.”

“I’m your client—”

“Yes, thank you for remembering that tonight.”

MALIK. 💖💌💗🤍 My obsessed boy who fell for her twice. He fell for the ghost version of the girl he went to jail for when he was younger, and then he fell even harder for Isla, despite eventually realizing they were the same person. They were meant for each other. They gravitated toward one another because they were each other’s person, the only two who understood the darkness they both craved. My loves 💌❤️🤍. They were immaculate, and this book was a masterpiece because of them. I adored Malik with everything in me. His obsession, his devotion, the way he tried so hard not to fall for Isla because he believed the past version of her deserved his loyalty… he did not realize he was trying to be loyal to her the entire time. He was literally jealous of himself, jealous of the moments he thought belonged to someone else🥹💓💌✨. That alone had me screaming. Isla fought her feelings, but ultimately realized it was pointless because they were always going to happen. She wanted him, and she finally allowed herself to accept that. I am so proud of her for putting herself first and going after what she wanted 🥹💗❤️💌.

Malik’s heart will love once in his life, and what a privilege to have his heart belong to me.

One heart. One love. One life.

I also love how strong-willed she was. When Malik told her about the girl from his past—the girl he had been in love with, the girl he had been searching for for thirteen years—Isla refused to be second best. She had no idea that the ghost girl was her, but she still stood her ground. She walked away because she did not want a love where she came in second, even though it broke her heart. She wanted Malik to say he loved her and mean her, not a memory. Malik had been obsessed and in love for years, and whether he knew it or not, he fell for Isla every time 💌💖🥹💗🤍

“Hit me.”

“No.”

“Aw.” The smirk he gives me would have had me handing him my number on any other given day. But not this one. “Scared you’ll hurt me, Isla?”

He was entirely, pathetically in love and torn between who to be loyal to 🤍❤️💗💌💖. He had so much love for the past version of Isla, the girl he met all those years ago, and just as much love for the version of her now, without realizing they were the same person. The loyalty battle in his head was insane because he was literally being loyal to her in every timeline and did not know it. At the same time, Isla felt this deep connection to Malik and yearned for him in a way she did not understand and did not want to feel, but it was inevitable. She could not fight the pull. She did not see the point in arguing with herself over her feelings when they were going to end up together regardless. Forget the professional boundaries. He was simply in her orbit, and she could not get out of it even if she tried. They were written to collapse into each other. They were written to fall, no matter how hard they fought it.

“But you’ll be begging for my forgiveness until I’ve had my fill.”

“I’ll make it right, I promise,” he says, his voice coating me like a blanket of warmth.

My girl Isla knew her worth 💗💖🤍💌💘. She refused to be second best, even to her own past self, and she walked away because she wanted to be first in Malik’s eyes. He realized it far too late. He figured out the truth about her identity in the end, but he kept it from her because he did not want her to think that was the only reason for his attraction and interest. My loves. Down bad, love them down bad.

ARC Review: 'Malik's Law' by C.B. Frey—Possession is the Only Prize 🖤

!!One heart. One love. One life!!

'Malik's Law' is a high-stakes, morally challenging dark romance that blends the intense legal thriller. This story is a deep dive into obsession, possession, and the dangerous activities. The story revolves around the "Criminal x Defence Attorney" dynamic, and a MMC who is as lethal as he is captivating.
This book promises a high-voltage, dark romance thriller that will leave readers breathless.

OMG!! IF POSSESSIVE GUYS ARE YOUR TYPE - MALIK IS THE ONE YOU NEED¡!
• He is so observant that he basically reads her mind. He knows her wants & needs like the back of his hand. 🧎🏻‍♀️
• His jealousy throughout the book is just crazyyyy 🤣
• He's the guy that holds on to the love & values the meaning of true love staying loyal to his "one love". For this he searched & waited 13yrs for his girl finding her relentlessly 🫢
• I feel so bad for Isla, she didn't have the best childhood that's okay but why would a parent plot smthg this big against her child 😭🙏🏻. She definitely deserves justice which Malik gave her 🧎🏻‍♀️.

*Malik’s Law* isn’t simply about devotion. It’s about a love that consumes from deep within. Because Malik’s love isn’t just about owning someone. It’s knowing every intricate detail about them that makes them a complete stranger to the rest of the world. Malik’s heart will love once in his life, and what a privilege to have his heart belong to me.

* Genre:
- Dark Romance
- Mafia (kinda) Romance
- Romantic Suspense

* Trope:
- Forbidden Romance (Criminal x Lawyer)

* Microtropes:
- Mafia Elements
- Secret Elite Societies
- He Falls First & Hard
- Possessive/Obsessive Hero
- "Touch Her and I’ll Feed You Your Eyes"
- "Who did this to you"
- Tempered Memories

* Pacing: The pacing is driven by the ticking clock of legal proceedings, the escalating heat of their forbidden attraction, and the shadowy threat of the elites they face.

Plot:

The MMC, Malik Faris, is introduced as a man defined by a brutal past: "I went to prison for her", and has been searching for this lost woman for thirteen years. This backstory represents his loyalty, sacrifice & obsession.
His primary mission—"find her, and never let her go"—is threatened by the unexpected appearance of Isla Knight, his lawyer. She is a "fierce, tattooed nyctophile". Malik’s internal conflict is compelling: he is being distracted from his thirteen-year mission by a new attraction.

The hook: What do you do when on one side is her, the girl I fell for when I was just a boy? The one I’ve carried with me for thirteen years, waiting to see her face again.
VS
Then on the other is Isla, the woman who has quickly become the only sun in my everlasting darkness?

Isla Knight represents Malik for his defense case. She is immediately aware of the danger, acknowledging that Malik Faris is "Dangerous, violent, and irresistibly forbidden".
Her first mistake was "taking the case" , but her second was "Following him into London’s elite"
The biggest plot twist lies in her own mind: she realizes "the truth hides in my shattered memories, ones that only Malik can unlock". This suggests a forgotten connection, a shared past, or a trauma that links her to Malik.

Malik’s actions, whether they involve saying "I’ll always choose you" or threatening anyone who touches Isla with violence, are all rooted in this central law.

Conclusion:
'Malik's Law' is a must-read for fans of intense, character-driven dark romance.
It is captivating because:
1)The danger is constant
2)The secrets are deeply buried
&
3)The obsession is total!!

This book is twisted, obsessive, and criminally endearing. The way that Malik would do anything to the people who did him and Isla wrong is something I haven’t read in a while and it was an experience for sure. The way that Malik OBSESSED over finding the girl he loved for 13 YEARS was something I wouldn’t have expected from a person him. What I enjoyed most though, was how Isla became more of herself while she was with Malik despite their “professional” relationship and when she regained her memories from her younger years.

I felt that the book was a very quick read for me and it kept my attention the entire time. There was plenty of spice in the book to show how physically attracted Malik and Isla were to each other. The action sequences were very action packed and I was able to follow what was going on quite easily.

What I wasn’t expecting were the dark torture scenes towards the end of the book. I didn’t necessarily mind them, because this is a darker book and Malik can be seen as a bit psychotic when seeking revenge, but I felt like they ended a bit abruptly.

Overall it was a good book for a darker romance. Readers who I would recommend this book to are those who enjoy L.J. Shen (Handsome Devil/Bad Bishop/Vicious), Rina Kent, and Shantel Tessier books.

Quotes that I enjoyed were:

“What happens to someone when the obsession runs so deep, they can’t avoid it any longer? What happens to their soul as it chews them up from within, warping them into something akin to a monster?”

“What’s the use in two broken hearts holding on, when neither remembers how to beat?” “They might have forgotten how to beat,” he murmurs, interlacing his fingers with mine, pulling me into him. “But they ache all the same.”

Malik’s Law was released on December 5, 2025 and is available on Kindle Unlimited and Paperback. Please note this book does have some content warnings.

Readers can expect:
🖤 touch her and die
🖤 he falls first and hard
🖤 attorney/criminal
🖤 secret social elite
🖤 mafia-esque elements

Thank you Grey’s Promotions for the review copy. All opinions are my own.

This is my third ARC this year and I’m so glad that I got chosen to read and review this book early! This is my first book read from CB Frey and after this, I’m definitely a fan!

This novel takes place in London, and surrounds Isla, a lawyer who takes on the case of Malik, whom believes he has been wrongly accused of a murder. Isla is the daughter of the most prominent judge in the country yet has a rebellious streak, representing some of London’s most seedy citizens that even she knows is guilty. She isn’t even sure why she takes Malik’s case but when they meet, something happens and she finds herself going down a road that will change both their lives forever.

Malik has spent his life in and out of trouble and has done prison time previously. But, he would tell you it was worth it. As he had done it for someone he loved. Someone he lost, and has been looking for for the last 13 years. It’s when he meets Isla that his life shifts and he wonders if he can finally let this search go, and live in the present with her.

This is definitely a dark, erotic novel. So, please check the triggers before reading as this novel as there are some very mature themes throughout.

I am always drawn to a MMC that is obsessive and possessive so Malik displayed all of the traits that I enjoy in these types of books. And he had it in spades for Isla which made him very swoons for me, whether I should be swooned or not, haha! I also enjoyed that Isla was not some doe in headlights and she was a woman who was headstrong, opinionated, forceful, and knew what she wanted. And I always love strength in a FMC.

I also enjoyed the mystery aspect of this novel. That there was this continuation of a storyline that brought the two of these together, helped to raise the stakes of both of their personal lives, and helps to give them purpose and drive and to decide where each belong in each other’s lives.

This was a really enjoyable book and I hope to see more from this author!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 STARS — OBSESSED. DARK. ADDICTIVE.

Malik’s Law by C.B. Frey absolutely owned me from page one. This isn’t just a dark romance. it’s a razor-sharp, emotional, mind-bending story wrapped in obsession, trauma, and the kind of chemistry that feels dangerously inevitable.

Malik is the kind of MMC you don’t forget. Brooding, violent, loyal to a fault, and carrying years worth of scars. he is the definition of “I would burn the world down for you” energy. Every time he let down even the smallest wall, I melted. His devotion is twisted, raw, and heartbreakingly beautiful.

And Isla? She’s one of the best FMCs I’ve read all year. A tattooed, fierce lawyer who should know better than to get tangled with a man like Malik. but the emotional gravity between them is impossible to resist. Watching her carefully built world unravel was just… addictive. Her strength, vulnerability, and confusion felt so real.

The tension between them? Off the charts.
The psychological unraveling? Chef’s kiss.
The morally grey characters, the secrets, the slow reveal of the past? I devoured it.

C.B. Frey builds an atmosphere that’s both elegant and sinister, two broken souls orbiting each other with equal parts danger and longing.

The twisty, shadowed path Isla walks kept me guessing. The way Malik watches her protective, obsessed, and haunted made every interaction feel like a live wire. I gasped. More than once.

If you love dark romance, morally grey men, forbidden dynamics, psychological unraveling, and dangerously intense chemistry, this book is a must-read.

I’m already planning a reread because I’m not done being destroyed by Malik Faris.

C.B. Frey, you have my heart. And my sanity. Maybe.

The kind of man you should run from… But absolutely won’t 🥲

4.5 ⭐️ | 4.25 🌶️

Malik’s Law was my first dive into C.B. Frey’s world, and wow; what an initiation. This dark romance is a tangled, intoxicating blend of obsession, danger, and the kind of slow-burn tension that feels like standing too close to an open flame.

Malik is every shade of unhinged, the perfect touch-her-and-die MMC who stalks the page with brutal devotion. Thirteen years of searching have sharpened him into something feral, focused, and impossible to forget. Isla, meanwhile, is the razor-edged lawyer who should know better but doesn’t stand a chance the second their worlds collide. Between her role as the reluctant clean-up girl for London’s elite criminals and the shadow of her cold, influential father, Isla’s fight for autonomy is messy, cathartic, and addictive to watch.

The chemistry? Electric.
The banter? Sharp and dangerous.
The plot? Twisty enough to keep you doubting every assumption.

And the vibe is pure mafia noir: charity galas masking rot, loyalties fraying at the edges, and two broken people circling each other like they both know one touch might save them… or ruin them.

This book delivers dark romance with teeth: obsession, liberation, and secrets that detonate at all the right moments. If you love morally grey men, fierce women clawing back their power, and that delicious feeling of not knowing who’s hunting whom… Malik’s Law is calling your name.

Huge thanks to Grey’s Promotions for the e-ARC, and congrats to C.B. Frey on the upcoming December 5th release. This one is absolutely worth the wait.

I would give this book 4.5 stars. I enjoyed the mysterious and steamy storylines. This book is about Isla Knight who is a strong, fierce, and powerful lawyer. Isla's new client is Malik Faris. Malik is involved in organized crime, accused of murder, and previously incarcerated. I feel like both of them see things other people might miss, especiallyin each other.

Malik is hung up on an unidentifiable woman from his past. Malik has searched for this woman for more than a decade. One look at Isla has Malik forgetting about his mystery woman but not totally giving her up either. Isla has a lot from her past she doesn't remember. Isla is trying to live up to her dad's expectations because he's a judge.

I liked the way Malik was posessive and protective. Malik was unhinged if he thought anyone was bothering Isla. Isla didn't always appreciate that about Malik. Isla isn't a woman easily dominated by anyone either, but especially men. There was a simmering connection right away between Isla and Malik. Isla also knows she can't compete against a ghost Malik hasn’t given up on. Isla felt she was never enough from many people. There are a lot of secrets, corruption, and twists. Isla and Malik find there's a lot connecting them. Eventually, Malik figures out the identity of who he was looking for.
I think Malik and Isla were equally powerful in their own ways. Neither one would I want to cross.

"I’ve fallen in love with a ghost, and she haunts my every waking moment."

"I’m not afraid of scars. I’m afraid you’ll swallow me whole."

Thanks to, Grey's Promotions and C.B. Frey, for the opportunity to read this ARC.

✨ARC Review✨

One heart. One love. One life.
This is for everyone who ever dreamed of having a love worthy of envy.

Malik is the new hero here. Fresh air. Everyone who reads this book will fall in love with him. Malik, because of his girl — the one he’s been searching for almost his whole life — will hurt for her, bleed for her, and become someone who would even kill for her.

Isla is a girl who runs away because she doesn’t want to be told what to do. But…

“When I find you, you’ll beg me to destroy you, and piece by piece, you’re going to fucking let me.”
You get Malik’s energy here, right???

But when Isla gets her five minutes, she turns into a boss — sorry, your new favorite boss:
“You take your eyes off me for even a second, and I will carve my name onto your cock.”

And the small lines that got me on my knees:
“Choke me until I can’t breathe.”
“The throt I’ll be fucking.”

And in the end, they will stay broken together.

⭐ Tropes

Obsession • Run-and-chase • Possessive hero • Rebellious heroine • Fated connection • Dark romance • Pain + devotion dynamic

⭐ Tone

Dark. Addictive. Primal.
A love that feels like destiny, danger, and destruction in the same breath.

⭐ Final Thoughts

I devoured this book in one sitting. Malik and Isla’s connection is raw, violent, magnetic, and impossible to look away from. This is the kind of romance that crawls under your skin and stays there — a story for readers who crave intensity, obsession, and lovers who would burn the world just to stay together.

Wowwww — this book was more than I was prepared for! I love how possessive and unhinged Malik is. He’s ruthless, unapologetic and oh so sexy. He turns pain into pleasure and will stop at nothing to find the girl from his past, now woman, who holds his darkened soul in her hands.

Isla is an attorney, stuck in a loveless engagement, has daddy issues, trauma and missing memories. Her version of self-care is found at the bottom of a bottle and she couldn’t care less what you think about it.

From the moment Malik and Isla meet, their chemistry is undeniable. I couldn’t get enough of their banter, Isla’s defiance and Malik’s “who hurt you” big energy.

This story started and ended with a bang and I was here for all of it. I would have loved more depth to the plot (especially in the middle); but the twists, turns and uncovered secrets had me on the edge of my seat!

If a toe curling, thigh clenching, dark romance with crime and mafia vibes is your guilty pleasure then you must read this book! But, it is not for the weak and comes with a list of trigger warnings! Please check before reading — your mental health matters! 🖤

Omg, C.B you have done it again 😍 Malik might just be my Newest Obsession!
You have Isla the defence attorney who is drawn to darkness, always has been, even with her dad being who he is in the legal system frowning at who she takes as clients, the mob leaders, the gangsters, the darkest of the dark who do things highly frowned upon in the high society.
And then you have Malik, the man with two masks, upon first glance he looks a part of the High society, but he has aimed it that way, if you look closer you see that he has been placed there working for the mobesque clientele, the people that really run the show, the ones aiming to bring the real bad people down.
But there is more too him than that, he has been trying to find a lost love for just over 13 years, the one that was taken, the one he went to gaol for all those years ago. When he comes across Isla who has Amnesia about her past but seems to remember short glimpses while with Malik.
Just who is Isla really? And what happens to their new relationship when Malik finally finds the woman he has been searching for all these years?
This incredible book is filled with searching, secrets and spice!
Searching for answers and long lost ghosts, secrets that will blow your mind, and spice that will have you p@nting for pages!

This one is oddly similar to the turkish series - “Halka” in some points. Halka’s first episode was released on Jan 15, 2019 and is obviously the best one but this book feels like a poor copy or something of it.

In “Halka”, there’s a group of bad elite people, similar to this book. The hero in the series sees something and his memory is wiped forcibly by injecting him some sort of medicine which is the same as this book where FMC is injected with the medicine as well. In Halka, the hero is engaged to someone, that fiancé complaints he’s cold all the time bla bla which is also similar to this book’s FMC being engaged and her fiancé saying similar things to her. Also the Fiancé’s in the series & in the book eventually dies. The hero in Halka gets headaches and insomnia, the FMC in this book also gets severe headaches. In the series, the Hero’s father is a part of the bad elite people group and in this book, FMC’s father is the part of bad elite people group. Hero’s father is not his real father and in this book FMC’s father is also not his real father.

I can’t outright accuse it of being a copy of the series because honestly rest is just bad smut. That doesn’t happen in the series. The plot of this book is also not good. It felt incomplete and exaggerated at the same time. I don’t like the writing style of this author. Also he makes her lick someone else’s blood ?? like Ewww. His blood or her blood - understandable but someone else’s? Nope. Yuck. There’s no chemistry between the MCs. I won’t be continuing with this author.

If you love Dark Romance, this is a book you absolutely should not miss — because I’m sure you’re going to be obsessed with it.

The plot is incredible; the story flows so smoothly that it feels like you’re watching a movie. I especially loved how the focus wasn’t only on one or two characters, but on all of them, and how the story moves between the past and the present, slowly revealing what really happened. It adds an extra layer of depth and emotion to the story.

Now, let me talk a little about the characters…

Isla Knight is a successful lawyer, but carrying her father’s last name comes with a heavy burden. (And let’s just say — he’s not a good man.) Wanting to follow her own path, Isla chooses to become a mafia lawyer, and she’s incredibly good at her job. That decision is what brings her face to face with Malik Faris…

Malik Faris is a powerful mafia figure and the man people turn to when they want guaranteed results. After Isla becomes his lawyer, the attraction between them is impossible to ignore. But deep down, Malik is still haunted by a woman from his past — and the guilt that comes with it.

𝕹𝖔𝖙𝖍𝖎𝖓𝖌 𝖇𝖚𝖙 𝕴𝖘𝖑𝖆 𝖋𝖚𝖈𝖐𝖎𝖓𝖌 𝕶𝖓𝖎𝖌𝖍𝖙,𝕸𝖞 𝖗𝖊𝖑𝖎𝖌𝖎𝖔𝖓.𝕸𝖞 𝖉𝖊𝖘𝖙𝖗𝖚𝖈𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓.𝕸𝖞 𝖑𝖆𝖜.

This book is so good that it’s honestly hard to talk about it without giving spoilers. It’s full of shocking twists and unexpected turns, and as you get closer to the ending, the story only gets better and better.

ARC REVIEW: ✨MALIK'S LAW BY C.B. FREY✨

Malik’s Law follows the enigmatic Malik—a morally grey, dangerously loyal mafioso whose life is defined by violence, devotion, and an unyielding search for the girl who once stole his heart. Wrongfully accused and standing trial for a crime he didn’t commit, Malik finds himself face-to-face with Isla, the sharp-witted, undefeated defense attorney who thrives on the impossible.
Isla’s brilliance in the courtroom is matched only by her defiance; she takes on high-risk criminal cases solely to rebel against her father—a judge who expects perfection, obedience, and silence. But the moment Malik lays eyes on her, an obsession ignites, one intense enough to burn through every line she’s sworn never to cross.
I was completely captivated by this book. The chemistry between Malik and Isla crackles off the page—intense, magnetic, and utterly addictive. The spice? Immaculate. The plot? Exceptionally crafted. C.B. Frey masterfully pulls you into a world of danger, desire, and lethal devotion, weaving twists that strike when you least expect them.

If you’re a dark romance lover, Malik’s Law delivers everything: tension, obsession, passion, and a storyline that keeps you breathless till the very last page. An unforgettable, edge-of-your-seat read.

TROPES: Dark Mafia Romance, Criminal x Defence attorney, He falls first and hard, Touch her and you'll die (like literally).

Review
Thank you so much to the gorgeous and wonderful @ for letting me arc read Malik’s Law ❤️‍🔥
Okay this may be one of my most unhinged reviews yet but hey I’m a fun gal so here you go.
Malik = HOT. 100% confirming that men with veiny arms and tattoos are the HOTTEST thing that have ever walked on this earth. Raw. Next question.
Isla = bad b*tch, I want to be her when I grow up! We love a woman who does not need any man to save her but saves herself.
This had the law loving side of me so excited! I really enjoy when some of my biggest loves and passions come together.
My girl the conflict of interests within this book were SPICY!
I am sorry move over Casella brothers because MALIK!!! WOW!!
This book was the perfect blend of emotional, spicy, dark, yearning, and criminal activity, and I loved every single moment.
I loved every single twist and turn this book took; it was like the perfect sexy and heart crushing at times rollercoaster.
The spice was SPICY, and I fear my jaw hurts because it did not leave the floor basically the entire read.
I fear I would get on my knees for both Isla and Malik.
Inappropriate use of a gavel had me gagged. OMFG that was HOTTTTT.

Moments

Two souls lusting over the impending heartbreak we’re preparing ourselves for. But will it still be considered a heartbreak if one of our hearts no longer beats?

“Man-splain it to me. I’m sure it’ll give you a nice little ego boost.”
