Raised: Part Two
After being killed by a one night stand and raised for the purpose of being recruited into the King’s Royal Guard, Pete went on the run.

The death of singing sensation Britton Rocks in Vegas has landed Mickey’s Recruiter boyfriend in a sticky situation. Tim resorts to drastic measures to clean up Nick’s mess, knowing the King will punish him severely if he ever finds out. Hope rests on the shoulders of clone number Nine, but will she be able to pull off the transformation and become Britt?
Pete is forced to adjust to being Nick’s Animate, which is the equivalent of becoming a rabid guard dog, used to keep bikers at bay in the bar while Nick seduces women with his magic. He is unaware that Nick has set his sights on Mickey’s feisty friend Kit, who agrees to a date and doesn’t really know why. When Pete realises Kit is in trouble he knows he needs to find a way to rescue her from his deluded User. Up against someone who has complete control over him, can Pete find a way to rescue Kit before it's too late?

If you want to know a bit about me, here it is: I spend too much time indoors and probably watch too many horror films. Some of my favourite things are; Alone time, people who know when to shut up, having a drink, eating pizza (usually after having too much drink the night before), reading books, adult swim cartoons, bad horror and sci-fi movies, proper good TV shows like Dexter & The Walking Dead, and last but not least having a laugh with my hilarious other half - this would usually include some of the above.

I recently finished reading Raised Part Two, the second book in Sharon Stevenson's fantasy series about zombies and super natural beings that takes place in a fantasy version of Scotland. I'm not a zombie fan and I don't normally read zombie books. I decided to read this book after reading two other titles, including Raised, by the author. It kept me interested through the end.
While in general I prefer a single narrator Stevenson's method of switching narrators every chapter was efficient and I was able to keep up with the storyline with little difficulty. The fantasy world, while patently unfair to zombies and supernatural beings, was defined well enough to follow the story and wonder about the rest.
The writing was good and the characters easy to identify and connect to each other and the story, which continued to develop as the original zombie character continued to grow. I was a surprised by the intriguing ending. In summary, Raised Part Two offered light easy fantasy reading without graphic violence or graphic sexual scenes, and it made me curious as to what will follow. A good continuation of the series.

In a nutshell: fast-paced, ghoulish fun and an original take on zombies. I sat down and read this in one sitting.
This series continues to delight with its sarcastic humor and twists on the zombie genre. The characters all have unique tweaks that make them exciting to read about. On this alternative magical Earth, dead doesn't mean dead. You may very well be brought back to life as an Animate, an undead slave, such as poor Pete is when he is bonded to the notorious wizard Nick. Or you may be a Clone trying to pull off imitating your original host, as seen in the very well-executed storyline with Clone #9 and Tim who try to cover up a famous rock singer's death. When the womanizing wizard Nicks sets his sights on Pete's past-life friend Kit, then Pete, Kit, and Mickey all find themselves fighting their society-imposed limits in order to save one another.
This book is told in multiple viewpoints. Usually one of my biggest pet peeves is to read a multi-viewpoint book, because I'll often find myself groaning every time it's so-and-so's chapter. This book avoids that because every character's perspective contributes toward advancing the plot in a swift, no-nonsense manner. The novel deals with cloning identity issues and enslaving the dead very subtly and with humor, which leaves the reader with quite a lot to think about. The characters grow with each installment, and I'm very excited to see what will come next!

Well written continuation of the raised series! The characters struggle with their places in life finding more trouble for themselves along the way and learning more about themselves and each other. This is an interesting place the author has created, and she makes the characters struggles believable. This book is a great way to escape from reality for a while.

Death Magic Rules Review
I enjoyed this paranormal read . After death Pete realizes what a jerk he was when he was alive and has romantic notions for a girl who he used to think was fat and obnoxious. He puts everything on the line to save the girl in this funny, suspenseful read.

The second book in the series, set in an alternate reality independent Scotland ruled over by a monarchy, carries on from the death of Britton Rocks, and the resulting plan to substitute her clone for her. This is a world of clones, mind-reading, magic spells, death and rebirth, teleporting and evil spirits. There are constantly-changing perspectives as Tim, Kit, Pete and Mickey take it in turns to narrate. As in all her books, Sharon Stevenson manages to blend the supernatural with the natural, the other-worldly with the everyday, the incredible with the mundane. Scenes of murder rub shoulders with sibling rivalries and wavering romantic possibilities; characters are stuck in vicious, bitter, drab existences, and the next second find themselves in the Maldives. Characters alternate between manifestations of paranormal abilities or concerns and tasks such as picking up a cake or wolfing down some basic grub. She creates a viable world which is distinctly her own invention, combining the fantastical with life's bits-and-pieces into an authentic arena in which she can tell her tales. There are great final scenes of death and rebirth, with the novel ending on a knife-edge, ready for the next one in the series. I can't wait. Original, and compulsive.
