Body Check is a forbidden romance featuring a grumpy hero and a curvy heroine who just can't stay away from each other!

I’m the teammate nobody likes. I don’t play well with others, and I hog the puck. If I have a choice between passing or trying to score, I’ll take the shot every time.

It’s not my fault that nobody else is as good as I am.

When I transfer to Bainbridge University, it’s no surprise that my new team isn’t happy to see me. After all, I used to be their biggest rival, and I loved nothing more than scoring on them. Okay, there was one thing I enjoyed more, and that was getting under the skin of one of their D-Men, Mickey Mikalski.

I count on a frosty reception from my new team. I count on Mickey getting on my very last nerve.

What I don’t count on is falling in love with his sister.

Body Check is the second book in Season Two of the Bainbridge U Hockey series, and it can be enjoyed as a standalone. If you love surly heroes who don't play well with others, body-positive heroines who know their worth, and steamy scenes that will make you want to take a dip in the pool just to cool off, then Dutton and Birdie's love story is for you!

Bridgette is starting at a new school. She's closer now to her brother, Bran, and farther away from her judgemental mother, who thinks she should be spending her time eating salads and shakes.

Who does she meet helping out after he misses an important class? Dutton is a new player on the hockey team. And who Bran has nicknamed Dick. Dutton, when seeing Bridgette, realizes she's the girl he saw awhile back. Who hes been thinking of ever since.

Honestly, I loved that Dutton chased Bridgette. I could see that she didn't believe him. And understand why. But he was serious about it.

And when they find out how they're connected... I was agreeing with his friend... how do you not talk about what you do? (I know, young love!)

I loved how much Dutton stood up for her in sadly so many situations. I mean, who cares what someone else weighs?! Bridgette certainly didn't take it laying down.

Loved the group the author has built. Can't wait to see the enemies become lovers.

Andi Burns’s hockey books are the perfect blend of humor, heart, and heat! I always laugh out loud when I’m reading about the Bainbridge boys—but at the same time, they feel so real and relatable!
Dutton is grumpy and antisocial but he’s so into Bridgette, it makes him likable. And she is such a great heroine with depth and hard-fought confidence that is inspiring! I loved their story and I can’t wait for more from Bainbridge.

The second in the BU Hockey Season 2 series, I would say just for flow and understanding you should read the previous story, BUT this can be read on its own. The switch has happened, the hockey team has combined, and with that the players are still trying to figure out how to work together. Obviously, there is the expected animosity but for most that has dissipated, for Dutton and Bran, it's stronger than ever and even a bit worse. When Dutton spots Bridgette for the first time, he just knew she was someone he had to meet and tried to chase after but lost her in the crowd. The second time he saw her ended the same, much to his disappointment. When he spots her the third time, nothing will stop him from getting her name and getting her to agree to spend the rest of her life with him (a bit of an exaggeration, but not far off). Bridgette has never been ashamed of her body, she is who she is, what gets her are the other people that are jerks. Meeting Dutton gives her a pause and makes her wonder if his attentions are genuine, but there is no way he can fake his reactions to her. Learning just who Dutton is gives Bridgette a shock, and now she has to decide, to hurt her brother with her actions, or herself. Will the two figure out a way to have what they both want?

I inhaled this story! I loved Dutton and everything about him. The whole golden retriever thing really worked in this story. We are getting some really good drama and some awesome naughty bits. I give this 5 stars.

I LOVE this hockey team! So fun to read...

Relocating to BU and joining a new hockey team, formerly considered rivals, presents a difficult situation for Dutton. An unwillingness to engage with your new teammates is a problem, (one that his best friend Blue isn't having) though the grumpy Dutton is unconcerned. Easier to focus on the ice, his family, and his studies.

This year, Bridgette is attending BU, like her twin brother, who plays hockey. She has no idea that Dutton has been interested in her for months; when they meet, he’s completely captivated, and she’s flattered. He is ignorant of her connection to Mickey initially (one of his teammates he really doesn’t like), but Bridgette knows her brother would be upset if she were to date Dutton. In an effort to continue their developing feelings (and steamy times together) she suggests they attempt to keep their relationship private. Kinda hard when both your brother and your new boyfriend live and skate together!

The fact that Bridgette found peace with her plus size body and embraced her desires with Dutton was heartwarming; conversely, the negativity of others surrounding her weight was heartbreaking. I could easily relate to her challenges with that, Dutton’s feelings, and the dynamic involving him and Mickey.

This is full of funny situations, sweet and steamy interactions, drama, ice time, and all the character/team banter we love from this author and series. Reading in order is definitely in your best interest, IMO. This gave me the HEA I wanted for them, and I can’t wait for the next teammate’s story!!

I received an ARC (thank you) and my thoughts are my own.

This is hands down, my favourite book from Andi!

This is where we meet Dutton Wagner, aka D***head! Dutton and his best pal Blue have joined the wolves after playing for a rival university but he wasn't 'just a rival', he was the bain of Mickey's existence, the one person who could rile him like no other. Seriously, the hatred was extreme and very mutual.

Dutton is quite content to be known as the d***head surly outsider, he just doesn't care and I loved that about him. Then he sets eyes on the redhead and he is a goner!

The redhead, aka Bridgette aka Birdie, Mickey's twin! She's a bigger girl and I absolutely loved her attitude, she wasn't in-your-face I'm big and beautiful look at me and yet she didn't hide either, she's just a hard working adorable gorgeous woman with a big heart and a wicked sense of humour, and she's as taken as he is!

Their attraction was instant, their connection was believable and they are a couple who you just instantly cheer for.

Andi has the onset of dementia mentioned in this book and I think she handled it well, it's not focused so much on the actual illness but more on the acceptance of the illness. Believe me, it's tough!

All in all, I loved Dutton & Bridget! I loved their connection, their banter was spot on and their steam was steamy 😏

Highly recommend!!

To Be Noted: My review is based upon the initial ARC I received, which was prior to the changes made after.

Author Andi Burns is back with her latest release from Bainbridge Hockey Season 2 series.
Body Check is book two and centers around Bainbridge Hockey team Center player Dutton ‘Wagner/Dick’ James Wagner and Bridgette ‘Birdie/Dove’ Mikalski younger twin to hockey player Brannon ‘Mickey’ Mikalski.

Following the plot of Dutton and Bridgette’s love story led to being full of cute, sweet, soft and fluffy moments, while also giving burning hot spice from the steam delivered.
They both were the perfect couple and not just because of the feelings they shared for each other. But also because they were who and what each other needed.
Dutton for always loving Bridgette and letting her know how beautiful and wanted she was by him, having desired her from the get go.
As for Bridgette, she helped Dutton come out of his shell and open up more. This was not only nice to see, it helped in allowing us to delve further into the layers of Dutton that were hidden, given how he always kept to himself with his walls up, other than when around a select close few.

I liked that through the journey of Dutton and Bridgette’s relationship is where their character development occurred too.
Considering whilst they got to know each other, it was where their layers unravelled allowing not only each other. But also us the readers to see and learn simultaneously along the way.
And with the connection between the characters and relationship development, it paved the way for an effortless flow to the storytelling.

I have to say it was great to see that Bridgette accepted and loved herself and her body, despite the opinion of others which included family members. She was truly fierce, strong and amazing for it.
As for Dutton I loved how he fell head over heels for Bridgette from one glance. And despite being a loner by nature, you could never tell with the way he continued to always try to prove it to Bridgette just how much. His affection for her always loud, proud and passionate in every moment shared between them.

My only critic came from the ending not feeling like an ending, the way it just finished off.
It felt more like the end of a chapter with some more still to come, especially considering the length of the chapter was too short IMO.
Plus it didn’t help that the lead up to the ending was rushed the way everything seemed to move so quickly within the last two chapters. Only to just cut off in the final one.

All in all, I have to say I enjoyed reading Body Check. It was a sweet story that showed development not only with the storyline, as well as the characters too. Particularly when it came to Dutton, who had been a bit of a mystery in the previous books from Bainbridge Hockey Season 2 series.

She's his dream girl

We're only two books in and I'm thoroughly enjoying BU Hockey Season 2 , and BODY CHECK was a terrific addition. This is a secret relationship, brother's rival, curvy heroine, grumpy/sunshine, college hockey romance which has plenty of humour, spicy heat, incredible team banter, and a hockey player's dream girl.

Dutton Wagner is one of two players who have transferred to Bainbridge for the new hockey season. Dutton comes across as being a grump, but he's not, he just doesn't like engaging with people. His focus is concentrated on his family, hockey and schooling. Until he sees her! Bridgette Mikalski is a plus sized woman and totally embraces it. Thanks to her family she does have some issues, but otherwise she has a positive outlook on life. Moving to Bainbridge to get away from her family and closer to her twin brother opens up a whole new world. Then she meets him!

I absolutely adored Dutton and Bridgette. Not realising the connection they share, they embark on a wonderful friendship, then the truth emerges, Dutton is Bridgette's brother's fiercest rival, they do not get along at all. Dutton fell hard for Bridgette and she was able to witness a side to him his teammates never saw, he was tender, caring, possessive, and very protective. Bridgette is such a strong woman, yes, she's curvaceous, and Dutton loves her curves, I loved the activities they shared and the fun they had together, their banter, their emotions, and especially their heat.

BODY CHECK is a heartwarming love story which really pulls on the heartstrings. I dare you not to fall in love with Dutton or cheer Bridgette on for her positivity. I can't wait for more of this series.

I adored the first book in Andi Burns’ BU Hockey Season series, but I absolutely LOVED the second, Body Check. This book takes everything that made the first one so addictive—the team dynamics, the banter, and the chaos of living in the hockey house—and turns it up a notch.

If you read book one, you’ll know that two of BU’s fiercest rivals have now transferred to the team. The tension and rivalry explode right from the start, creating laugh-out-loud moments and a foundation that keeps this series strong. And at the heart of that tension? Dutton.

Dutton, the grumpy, quiet, man-of-few-words forward who always loved getting under the skin of BU defenseman Mickey Mikalski. Now, as teammates—and hockey house roommates—the sparks really fly. But nothing turns up the heat like Dutton laying eyes on Mickey’s curvy, fiery-haired sister, Bridgette. From the moment he sees her, words fail him. The only problem? He has no idea who she is—until the truth comes out. And when it does, one thing becomes crystal clear: Dutton isn’t about to back down.

Bridgette shines as a heroine. She’s bold, beautiful, and unashamedly owns her curves, even while carrying the emotional weight of family struggles that tug at your heart. Her bond with her twin brother, Mickey, was one of my favourite parts of the book—it added so much depth and warmth.

And of course, I have to shout out the BU boys. Every single one of them brought personality, charm, and plenty of grin-inducing moments (special mention goes to Ollie for making me laugh constantly).

Body Check is everything I love in a sports romance—fun team camaraderie, family bonds, and a forbidden romance packed with sizzling chemistry. It’s a story of a grumpy hero who loses his words for the one woman he shouldn’t want, and a curvy heroine who can’t stay away. A total win!

ARC Review: 4.5 ⭐️
Body Check is book 2 in the Bainbridge Hockey season 2 series featuring Dutton Wagner & Bridgette Mikalski.

Dutton and his best friend Blue come to Bainbridge after their old school team was shut down and things are strained with their new teammates, especially Mickey Mikalski.

Dutton has been a thorn in Mickeys side since they both started playing in the league. Now they’ll be playing on the same team and will have to try and get along.

Bridgette came to Bainbridge to be closer to her twin brother Mickey while working on her associates degree in business. She meets Dutton when he messages on a class portal requesting notes and she offers to share hers. Dutton can’t believe that this girl is the girl he saw months ago at the diner but never got to meet.

Bridgette doesn’t trust easily and has a rocky relationship with her body and the rest of her family (besides mickey). So she’s skeptical of Duttons intentions, but agrees to go out with him.

They begin seeing each other but Bridgette wants to keep it a secret for a while considering how much bad chemistry Dutton & mickey have. However the truth is revealed and things don’t go over well.

Will they be able to push through and be happy together or will the issues with Mickey & the team cause them to end things ?

I really enjoyed Dutton & Bridgette’s story and I thought it was really well done! I loved how supportive Dutton was of Bridgette despite everything he had going on himself. He treated her like the queen she was and never faltered on his love for her.

I really like this world and I can’t wait for Blues book next !!

Thank you Andi for the ARC!!

This was my first book by the lovely andi burns. I absolutely loved this book. This is the second book in the series but I didn’t feel lost reading this before the 1st book. I loved the tropes for this book and I absolutely loved this book. It definitely did not disappoint.

Tropes:
🏒Grump/Sunshine
🏒Brother's Rival
🏒Secret Relationship
🏒Body Positive Heroine
🏒Sweet Only for Her
🏒Forbidden Love

Bridgette just transferred to the same college as her twin brother Brannon. Bridgette is full time student but also is cosmetologist to help pay for school and be able to open her own business one day.

Dutton and his best friend have found themselves on a new team with Dutton sworn enemy. Dutton is trying to hold is life together with school, hockey and family stuff back home. Dutton has to miss class due to his dad having a doctor’s appointment. Dutton has one person from class that is willing to meet up and help him with class notes and what he missed. When Dutton is meeting up with his class mate he sees the girl he hasn’t stopped thinking about in over a year.

I absolutely loved this book. I couldn’t put this book down. I freaking loved Dutton and Bridgette. I loved how they had each other others back and they obsessed with each other from the beginning. Even though Bridgette falls from Dutton quickly I love how she makes him work for there first date. I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

** I want to thank Andi Burns and Wordsmith Pr for giving me the chance to read Body Check as an ARC In exchange for my honest review and thoughts.***

I was so curious about the secret Dutton Wagner kept? And why he'll be so in trouble about it. But never expected that I'll see how the antisocial grump will fall from the first sight with an unknown girl . Dutton was a grump with a heart of gold for his dream girl and high intolerance to some of his new teammates. And the feeling is mutual because his new teammates don't like him because of a rivalry. But all changes when he meets his dream girl for real . And their instant relationship is so sweet and Dutton is so swoony around Bridgette. He worshiped her and loved her for who she really was . And I was impressed when he defended her even before he knew her . Bridgette was smart and sassy and so in tune with herself. And I couldn't believe that her brother Mickey was always there for her and helped her . Because till now Mickey was the team's joke . And I get the rivalry between him and Dutton when they played for opposing teams but they didn't know how to stop and become teammates . And Dutton finding out who Bridgette is related to was a shock for both of them. And they have to decide do they hurt their teammates and family by staying together or themselves breaking up . And this decision was a tough one. Loved all the pranks and funny moments, and all the swoony ones , the banter and the fun .
Can't wait for the next story in the series.

Thanks to the author and WordSmith Publicity for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of this book.

Dutton is a very talented, but closed-off and broody hockey player forced to switch schools and teams. Playing for the enemy was never in his plans, neither falling in love with a mysterious red-haired woman.
Bridgette, used to be the target of so many cruel jokes, decides to switch schools to have the support of her brother- her rock.
When Dutton meets Bridgette, he has no idea that she is the enemy’s sister, but after falling in love and being completely obsessed with her, he is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her.
Bridgette also falls in love with the broody, but caring and attentive Dutton, but chooses to keep their relationship a secret to avoid getting her brother hurt, since he absolutely hates Dutton on and off the ice.
While Bridgette deals with self-esteem problems and a very unsupportive family, Dutton treats her like a queen and worships every single thing about her. He also doesn’t want to keep their relationship a secret from anyone.
A love story so pure, so beautiful, so swoony and with so much spice that you will fall in love with the characters.
Bridgette and Dutton are the perfect mix of sunshine and broodiness, of confidence and fear, of love and sacrifice.
Thank you for the ARC.

Ever since a scandal hit his colleges football team Dutton had to transfer schools - to his rivals school. And he one of his roommates is the guy he always clashed with on the ice. But that‘s not his biggest problem. Ever since he saw this beautiful girl a while ago he‘s been thinking of her. As fate will have it she#s in one of his classes so he meets her again. But fate has it‘s way and Bridgette also happens to bis the twin sister of his biggest rival and roommate.

Body Check is book 2 of the BU Hockey Season 2 series by Andi Burns. It‘s a standalone in this interconnected series and can be read independently. But this storyline and the one of book one overlap a bit so I recommend reading the books in order.

I fell in love with Dutton one page 1 right on the first sentence. His anti-social, keeps his social circle really small, he hates smalltalk and he loves fiercely. He‘s simply amazing. I loved how he was gone for Bridgette the moment he met her without even talking to her and how sure he is when he loves. Bridgette is also AMAZING. I love that she is plus size and super confident with her body. She‘s sexy, she‘s fierce and she‘s kind. She’s the perfect counterpart for Dutton. Their love story is so cute and funny and also a whole lot spicy - so the perfect combination. I loved being back with this team and I can‘t wait what’s in stock for the other guys. Especially for Blue and I love love love that he‘s next because it‘s been brewing for quite some time.

✨ARC Review✨

Body Check by Andi Burns is the second book in Season Two of the Bainbridge U Hockey series, but it absolutely works as a standalone. This was my first read by Andi Burns—and it definitely won’t be my last! I loved this book. The story hooked me from the start with its perfect mix of heart, humor, steam, and emotional depth. Andi Burns totally delivers, and I devoured every page.

Bridgett is such a bright, strong character. She strives to stay positive with herself and her body, even when her own family puts her down. Her outlook on life is refreshing and empowering. I admired her resilience and confidence so much.

Dutton and Bridgett are perfect for each other. Their story is full of heartwarming moments, hilarious banter (I giggled so much!), and sizzling chemistry. I loved how Dutton—grumpy, guarded, and fiercely competitive—completely falls for Bridgett. Despite her being his rival’s sister and a curvy plus-size woman, he’s all in from the start. He’s supportive, protective, and sweet in a way that’s just for her.

Dutton and Bridgett’s story is exactly what you need. I absolutely recommend reading this one!

Thank you to Andi Burns and Wordsmith Publicity for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Wow, this book had me hooked from the very first chapter! Body Check is the perfect mix of funny, heartfelt, and undeniably steamy. Dutton might come off as the grumpy, closed-off hockey player, but the second Bridgette enters the picture, you see a completely different side of him: protective, tender, and so ridiculously smitten. Honestly, the way he adored her made me melt.

Bridgette was such a fantastic heroine. She’s confident in her body, even while juggling insecurities and family drama, and I loved how strong yet vulnerable she felt on the page. Her relationship with her twin added so much heart, especially since that connection is what makes this romance forbidden in the first place. The secret relationship tension was chef’s kiss, equal parts nerve-wracking and exciting.

What really stood out for me was the balance: hilarious team banter, swoony romance, real struggles with family and self-image, and the kind of chemistry that jumps off the page. It’s not just a sports romance, it’s a story about finding someone who sees and loves you exactly as you are.

If you love grumpy/sunshine dynamics, forbidden romance, and hockey players who fall hard and fast, then you should pick this book up.

Excellent new adult hockey romance. I really enjoyed the writing style, plot, tropes and characters. Definitely give it a shot if you like a little drama with your sports and romance.

Dutton and his bestie Blue transfer to BU to play hockey after a huge scandal at their previous school/team. They may be going to play with their biggest rivals but Dutton isn't there to make friends. Just to play hockey. Little does he know that the girl of his dreams that he saw once is about to upend his life. Bridgette is a curvy beauty who takes charge and will call you out in a heartbeat. She loves her body even if she grew being told she always needed to diet. She was skeptical at first when Dutton pursued her but quickly the two become ensnared. What neither figure out is that Bridgette is the twin sister to one of Dutton's new teammates...in fact the teammate he cannot stand. Looks like he's about to figure out how to be friends in order to keep his girl. Despite all of that, the two are committed to overcoming the odds and being together. Of course there are hiccups along the way with some drama which makes it all fun.

Overall a fun, fast read. I can't wait for the next in series.

3.5 rounded up to 4

Dutton skips one seminar session to be with his dad as he undergoes testing following an accident, and the only classmate willing to share their notes goes by the username CurlUpandDye. Crossing his fingers that he's not about to meet a serial killer in the coffeeshop, he's shocked to find Bridgette waiting for him, the mystery girl he spotted at a diner a few months back. She's the girl of his dreams. Too bad her brother is his biggest rival and worst enemy.

Read if you like:
-Grumpy x Sunshine
-Brother's Rival
-Soft Only For Her

Body Check was such a sweet hockey romance, but it also had plenty of spice. I loved Dutton and Bridgette's adorable dance date and their flirty, teasing texting. I'm still giggling over their name mix-up (Dutton as Dick and Bridgette as Birdie). Mickey handled the news that the one guy on the team that he can't stand was dating his sister surprisingly well (matching black eyes aside) and I'm so excited for him to get a book. The combination of health issues for Dutton's dad and Bridgette's internalized insecurities made for a one-two punch to my heart, but Andi gave them a happy ending worthy of this grumpy x sunshine duo.

Bridgette is an absolute beauty! I love it when the characters are relatable and especially when they can be seen as someone who could just walk down the street… Andi does this so well! First off I love that Bridgette is not a skinny girl, she is curvy and beautiful. She knows who she is, obviously had to overcome the constant negativity that gets placed on girls over a size 6, but she is on point! I loved how proud she is and how strong she knows who she is as well! Yes, growth happens throughout the book as well, and clearly there are still problems but she’s on it!

Dutton has this uphill battle he needs to overcome, and it’s more in connection to overcoming the way he’s behaved towards his new teammates for the last couple of years. He’s one of the new transfers and isn’t someone who’s super social… he also has been dealing with his family and the stress of his dads medical problems since being in a serious car accident. He’s beyond devoted and connected to Bridgette the moment they connect and it is adorable to read.

The story is on point, the characters are great! And even has the annoyed overly protective brother… I look forward to the next one in the series as always!

Body Check is a sweet and sexy, forbidden hockey romance with real, lovable, and relatable characters. Dutton is the swooniest, grumpiest MMC. Bridget aka Birdie the MFC is a curvy, self-assured heroine. I love the curvy representation and that the MMC knew what he wanted and wasn't shy about his appreciation for Bridget's curves. Their chemistry is undeniable. And even though Bridget initially had reservations, Dutton was exactly who she needed. He was caring, supportive, and complimentary. He did wonders for her self-esteem. But their relationship was forbidden because Birdie is his teammate's sister, which made her off-limits.

This was such a great read! I devoured it in one day. It is Book #2 Season Two of the Bainbridge U Hockey series, but it can be enjoyed as a standalone. It is well-written and perfectly paced with an entertaining plot. There are laughs & witty banter between the main characters, as well as the teammates, family drama, heartbreaking moments, and intense emotions. I loved every minute of it and highly recommend reading it!

🏒Body Check🏒
BU Hockey Season 2 #2

By Andi Burns

🏒 Hockey Romance
🏒 College Romance
🏒 Teammates Sister

⭐ 4/5

Dutton and Birdie

This story follows Dutton and Bridgette. It is settled in the college hockey world of BU. Dutton is a new transfer along with his best friend, but their new team isn’t very fond of them coming to their team.
Dutton is very hung up on a girl he saw a while ago and can’t believe when he sees her again at college. But with her being the sister of one of his not so beloved teammates, it screams after tension and issues.
Bridgette has issues with herself and what others think and say isn’t very helpful. So when Dutton shows his interest in her, Bridgette doesn't believe him.
So he has to show her his honesty, and he does.
But their tension won’t be ignored forever and they decide to keep them a secret which isn’t easy for so many reasons.
But the happy end they are getting is also sweeter after their journey.

Transferring to a rival University and Hockey team was never gong to be easy, throw in that you transfer to your rival team and it's just that bit harder.

Dutton isn't known for being a people person and when he finds out that one of the players he enjoys winding o the most is now on his team, but they cannot put this aside and get on. Enemies on the same team is a challenge, throw in falling in love with his sister and all bets are off.

The attraction to Dutton is strong from the start, but tested once they discover who her brother is. One of my favourite aspects of the book is the body positivity. Bridgette is a fun, curvy girl and is comfortable in her own skin, despite her mum trying to change her, and I adore her.

This is a great read, and my first of Andi Burn and I found you do not have to have read the first book in this series to enjoy this. I hadn't and it did not alter my enjoyment of the book at all. I will now be going to read the first book and many others. :)

Sunshine curvy plus size queen and a grumpy hunk of a hockey player noticed each other in a diner and it was love at first sight… until she had to dart and he wasn’t quick enough to talk to her before she abruptly left…
Fate brought them back into each other‘s orbit and from there nothing would be the same, changing in the best of ways.
He is her twin brother’s nemesis and now his teammate but neither of them had a clue until things were already moving along. Fortunately, Dutton won’t give her up and will do anything it takes to keep her, love her and cherish her. And his broody exterior is no match for the lovely, red haired beauty, Bridgette.
The way he loves her, encourages her, worships her, protects her is top tier book boyfriend material!
I loved how even though both Dutton and Bridgette have family stuff they are dealing with it didn’t feel like it consumed their story. Yes, both situations were important to their characters but it didn’t weigh down the story- to me it helped build their characters without the heaviness and sadness usually associated with the topics.

This book is the second book in Season 2 of the Bainbridge Hockey series by Andi Burns and follows hockey player Dutton Wagner and fellow student Bridgette 'Birdie' Mikalski.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
✂️ Brother's rival
🏒 Grumpy/Sunshine
✂️ Body positive FMC
🏒 Secret relationship
✂️ Classnotes turned to flirting
🏒 Scowly smiles
✂️ Poolside funtimes
🏒 Hilarious teammates
✂️ Scalp massages and dance lessons
🏒 He falls first and hard

Playing for Woodcock's rivals wasn't on Dutton Wagner's bingo card, especially with his rival Mickey Mikalski---nor was finding out the hot redhead he can't get out of his head is said rival's twin sister. He knows he shouldn't, but the two have an undeniable attraction. And when Bridgette can't stay away either, she knows she's skating on thin ice with her brother. Can the two keep their relationship secret or will they slip through the cracks?

I liked this book. I knew Dutton was going to be a great MMC and boy do I just love a SIMP. He was down bad for our girl and lifting her up in all ways. Birdie was a delight. I love how we got to see more of her relationship with her brother and it was nice to see another person in her corner. Also, boo to her family. BOO! Dutton's own family situation was heartbreaking and struck a chord with me. The reveal hurt my heart.

Once again, the spicy scenes were great and I loved to see those body positive moments and conversations seamlessly melded into those scenes.

Body Check is a quick and fun hockey romance that checks all the boxes.

Thank you to Andi Burns for a copy of this ARC.

When Dutton is transferred to Bainbridge to join the hockey team he isn’t interested in becoming friends with the other members particularly his nemesis Mickey. Between playing hockey, doing well in school and his family his life is full. When he meets Bridgette he is immediately enchanted by her and is determined to convince her to give him a chance and isn’t about to be deterred.

Even though Bridgette is comfortable with the way she looks that doesn’t mean she isn’t judged by others. Attending Bainbridge allows her to be close to her brother Mickey but she knows that getting involved with his teammate will not make him happy and she isn’t certain what someone like him would see in someone like her.

I really enjoyed how determined Dutton was in his pursuit of Bridgette and how he was there for her through every challenge that came up. The relationship between them was fun and romantic and I enjoyed seeing them embrace the feelings between them.

okay so this one was such a fun mix of sweet and spicy. dutton is grumpy and standoffish with his new team at BU, way more interested in skating, school, and keeping his head down than making friends. bridgette on the other hand is just trying to live her life at college, support her twin brother, and ends up catching the eye of dutton (who’s honestly been lowkey crushing for a while). the twist that her brother mickey and dutton don’t get along at all just made the whole secret relationship thing extra tense but also entertaining.

i really loved how bridgette was comfortable in her body and how dutton adored her for exactly who she was. some of the negative stuff she faced hit hard but it made her confidence even more powerful. their chemistry was fire, the banter was cute, and the mix of hockey team drama + family dynamics kept things interesting.

One thing I need to say is if you’re not reading Andi Burns yet, go do so because these books are amazing!

Body Check is a college, hockey romance with a grumpy quiet hero and a sunshine heroine that really brings the spice and the entertainment. This crew of characters are one that you’ll never forget. They have a sense of family and great comical humor. I loved every second of this and did not want to put it down. Dutton is the perfect example of grumpy and broody. Bridgette really is the main star here in my book. She is confident, everything you hope to hear in a heroine. The chemistry between them is so great. I absolutely love reading this book.

I can’t wait to see what’s next from Andi Burns. I definitely recommend this book for others!

I’m really enjoying this series! Dutton is a college hockey player with NHL dreams. He is a total grump to pretty much everyone. Except maybe his best friend and his newest obsession… Bridget. Bridget is a college student with a lot going on. She is a part time hairdresser, full time student and close to her twin brother. The brother who is on the same team as Dutton…and can’t stand the guy. Yep this is about to get complicated. This was such great read. This fast paced love story had quite the characters. Characters who have a lot going on but found each other when they least expected it. These two had sassy banter and perfect chemistry. This story was a little emotional, very funny and just all around perfectly written. Dutton was all grump on the outside, a sweet teddy bear on the inside. I am Truly enjoying this series and can’t wait to see what is coming next.

Ok i LOVED this.

Such a quick and easy, but GOOD book.

I’m HERE for a plus sized FMC always, and Bridgette is now attending BU with her twin brother.

The way that she found her own confidence, even after the negativity that she experienced was so hard to read. Women being body shamed is SO hard.

Dutton has been interested in her for awhile, and is completely entranced by her upon meeting.

When she asks to keep their relationship a secret, he goes along, as any time with her was worth the risk.

I can’t believe this is only book 2! So so good!

I was somewhat surprised that Andi decided that Dutton would be the next MMC in this series, only because of how he came to be on the team. But as the story develops I could definitely see why the author went this way.
I really enjoyed how he progressed throughout the story, and to me it was mainly because of what he found with Bridgette.
They had so many things going against them, and when you add in insecurities, it was both a wonder that they could even make it as a couple but even more special when they finally did.
I just love this team that Andi has created, and after finishing book two I cannot wait until I get to read them all.
