Clint "Grim" Walker has always been clear about two things in his life, his love of his Marine career and his love for Haven Davenport. His self missions were clear: Be the best Marine possible. Protect Haven at all costs. But when the two objectives collide they leave his once stable existence in chaos.
I'm starting this review by showing my review for Havoc since Chaos is an extension of Havoc.
Clint 'Grim' Walker is a damaged man. His mother died when he was ten. His father turned cold and distant, unable to deal with her death. Clint turned off all emotions in order to handle these losses. He has grown into a hard, cold man; emotionally shut off from the world. As a Marine, he gladly faces death.
Haven Davenport is a damaged young woman. Held captive for 4 yrs by a man who sexually and physically abused her, she manages to escape. Haven makes it as far as Clint's front yard before she collapses.
When Clint finds Haven, he immediately falls in love with her. Haven moves in with Clint and his dad. They both promise to protect her and help her get her life on track. Clint begins experiencing emotions and doesn't know how to handle them. His relationship with his dad begins to improve.
One day, the man who imprisoned Haven finds her. Clint kills him. End of Book 1.
This story had so many unanswered questions. 1) Why had so many of the characters in this neighborhood gotten new identities? 2) How were they able to create a new identity for Haven so quickly? 3) How was Haven able to trust Clint and the others so easily after what she had endured? Specifically, sleeping in Clint's arms with no hesitation? 4) Why didn't Haven experience myriad problems adjusting to being free? 5) Why did Clint act like such a child? 6) Why can't these people actually talk to each other instead of shutting down? 7) How did her captor track her down?
The premise of the story isn't a bad idea. I simply feel it could have been executed better. There are a lot of grammatical errors. There are no breaks between scenes, which can be a little confusing at first.
Chaos begins with Clint's dad and some neighbors making the body 'disappear'. Clint realizes his dad will do anything to protect him and they grow closer. Shortly after, Clint goes back on duty and Haven enrolls in a culinary school. Clint returns 10 months later to find lots of changes among his friends and family. Things aren't the same between Clint and Haven. She has become more self-confident and has friends from school. He resents all the time she spends away from him. Things come to a head one night and Clint turns inward once more. He refuses to talk to Haven about their problems. Book 2 ends with Clint leaving early for Sniper School, proud he has resurrected the walls in his heart and shut down all feelings.
None of the questions posed by Havoc are answered in Chaos. I found that very disappointing. I feel like big chunks of the book are missing.
There were times when I wanted to grab Clint and shake him until his teeth rattled. He kept bragging about being a good Marine but acting like a spoiled child. I don't think he could have cut it as a Marine.
Chaos is just a powerful, emotional and gripping as Havoc. I was so excited to see that there was going to be a second book in this series that I stalked the author everywhere. Chaos did not disappoint this reader at all. The author creates characters that are so very well developed with so many emotions, thoughts and feelings that I get lost in them and forget this is only a book. This book is told in Clint’s POV. He’s the male lead and there is so much to his character that I really connected with him.
The author does a wonderful job fading into Clint’s past with his mother and her death. You see a young boy loved by his mother and how much her absence has made such an impact on the man he is today. Clint and Haven are still finding their way in this new relationship. For Haven she has a sense of freedom and the love of a man she never thought possible. Clint wants to protect his Angel, keep her happy and see her smile but he is being deployed in 28 days to the USMC. He knows his time with Haven is short.
I loved how each chapter starts off with the days left to deployment and the days left on duty. It sets a better time line for the events. While Clint is away, Haven is finding herself, she is going to school, has new friends and goes out. Something she never was allowed to do. While Clint is deployed he notices that she seems tired but he thinks it is good that she is getting out. Clint has an opportunity to advance in the Marines, but that advancement will require another sacrifice.
Things with Haven and Clint are strained when Clint returns for leave. He notices changes in Haven and he is afraid she no longer needs him. Haven has changed. Instead of them communicating like a couple the two drift apart and misunderstandings occur. Throughout Clint’s leave, his relationship with Sir (his father) becomes stronger. The author created Sir’s character to be a strong, wise and honest man. I really valued and took to heart some of the conversations he tries to have with Clint to open his eyes. The side characters in this story were also a blessing to read about. Their loyalty and wisdom and humor were refreshing.
Clint and Haven will face many challenges in this book. I was angry, upset, cried and yelled at times while reading this book. Trust me you will feel Clint’s emotions and his frustrations this go around. Can Clint accept the new Haven or does he love the girl that only needed him? Will Haven reach out to Clint and try to mend the gap that time and space has left? I hope the author will come out with another book in this series because I would like to see where Clint and Haven lives will take them in the future.
**************MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS**********************************************NOT SAYING THERE IS BUT READ AT YOUR OWN RISK**********************************************
It is books like this that I like to have a personal relationship with the authors because I can't really REALLY share my true thoughts on a person's actions in my reviews because I get shot down not by the authors but by other readers, Xavier got a full ear from me and it wasn't all that nice (no I wasn't mean to her just to the characters. The beginning of the book I was like yeah, alright I can see a happy ending going on between Clint aka 'Grim' and Haven: She places a hand on her hip, a displeased look in her eyes. "Have you been listening?" My eyes shoot up from her lower half as she sighs happily. "Clint Thomas Walker." "What do you expect? You're naked..." I shrug. I mean things were going smoothly Haven was starting to build a name for herself a life for herself you know the things she didn't have before Clint, and Clint he was being open and well okay sort of there are somethings that boy won't touch with a ten foot pole, but they were together getting along, "she giggles and shakes her head, "I'm sure after Mindy's party I can help welcome you home a third and fourth time..." My balls tighten in anticipation." Then something or a few things get in the way and well this might be where there are some ********************************SPOILER ALERT***********************************
Things change between Haven and Xavier is talking to me you got to see it form her point of view and I was like Hell to the no woman no matter what the eff is going on that behavior is just unexcusable! And then there was Clint that boy don't know how to handle s***, okay well in one situation he did the other one I thought he was a total wuss. The ending was like effing seriously Xavier you ended it like that the eff! Woman. But it was a still a good read
Chaos is the second book in the Havoc series and continues with Clint and Haven’s story. Clint is returning home after his deployment and finds a new and more secure Haven.
Clint is very distracted when he gets home. His old dark and closed off persona has returned. He isn’t clear where he stands with Haven and neither does the reader. She is in culinary school and making a name for herself. Haven acts standoffish with Clint which brings his old insecurities of being lovable back scratching his heart. Let me tell you Haven doesn’t help the situation and really bothers me.
Any connection I have with Haven in Havoc is gone in Chaos. I don’t get her actions and when she cuts Clint out of a significant event I want to smack her upside the head. I get that she is experiencing life for the first time but for me she is ungrateful and just down right mean. This isn’t a bad thing. A good writer stirs the emotions of the reader and Ms. Neal does that and then some.
I have to give Ms. Neal another shout out for her ancillary characters. They add so much to the story as multidimensional personalities. I love them as much as the main characters...well more than Haven right now.
This book (and the series) is well written and gripping. I went through many different emotions especially as Clint and his father start to reconnect. It is good to see these two strong men come to understand each other and recapture the love lost many years ago. I'll say again Haven caused me to boil and not in a good way.
My biggest complaint is this cliffhanger is a killer and just burns me up.
Holy hell what the hell happened in this book to go from Haven being the girl in Havoc that was saved and Grim being the hardass with no feelings and falling in love to now in Chaos Haven being the bitch she turned into. I love love love Grim since book 1 because of all the shit he has gone through and how he deals with it and then he finds Haven and falls for her and just reading this whole series from his POV is even better so you see everything from his view. Im so happy that this book didn't turn out to Grim being a softie and didn't put up with the shit in the end that Haven did. Im so happy he left her like he did because she does not deserve him in any way and then to hear her stupid excuse of why she did it - I totally changed my views on Haven after that and hated her. Throughout the whole book Haven was the biggest bitch ever and I just wanted Grim to dump her ass but then there would not be Book 3 and I just hoped he doesn't give in so easily in the next book because she seriously does not deserve someone like Grim after everything He did for her. Grim love you all the way babe!!!!
My new book boyfriend Clint is back and things have changed back at home. It picks up right where it left off in book one and I wouldn't tell you what happen but he did what I wanted him too do so badly! I was rooting for Clint and Haven to have a happy ending but now I am just rooting for Clint to be happy. A lot happens in this book, some for the good and some for the bad. I am really happy to see that Clint and his dad have a better relationship and they both are in a lot better place because of it. I want to be mad Haven for what she does to Clint but at the same time I have to remember that she has not lived yet. I really like how the author handled the big fight with Clint and Haven, it felt so real and believable, excellent job. Clint took the high road at the end even though it cost him part of himself but I am sure it will make him an even better person going forward.
Xavier, you really got me emotional involved and I loved every minute of it. I can't wait to read book 3!!
I wasn't surprised with what Haven did. I was surprised though she didn't think it was cheating. I understand coming from he background she has been at but when you really really love someone you just don't do that. I kind of had the feeling something was going to really change when he gave her the apron for a graduation gift. I was happy that he and LeLe are friends. At first I didn't think I liked her but after they had a little heart to heart she wasn't to bad. I am glad that he is going to continue his father/son relationship. I think they both needed it to move on. I am surprised though that he didn't want to make amends or want to forgive Haven. Maybe this means that there is something better for him in the later books. I don't know I have to read them to find out!
My favorite. I have fallen for Clint Walker and I can't get up. X please don't make him go back with Haven, I can't with that bitch now. It seems he was the one putting everything into this relationship while she was just there...not once did she sit with him when he came back from deployment and talked to him. I cried so much in this book and now have to wait SO LONG (2 Weeks actually) SO SO LONG for book three. Clint can do better and I hope he does. Love me some Glove and hoping he and Mandy makes it. At least she seems like a keeper. I kind of like Le Le now since she apologized and loved that Clint and Dad are finally at peace with each other. Thanks X for this great book.
Coming home Clint just wants to connect back with Haven, all appears good at first then it all goes to pieces. Her life has carried on while he has been away, new friends, school and getting stronger finding her feet. He finds his feelings spiralling out of control as his struggles to fit in with her new life, trying to find time to talk to her and spend time alone with her. Gosh this book about broke my heart, I felt for him still learning about his father and mother. His career is changing too. Feelings are really chaotic as he tries to deal with everything and not knowing how, people rally to help or at least try. So much going on, so much tension and strain I quite expected him to blow a fuse at some point. I was gripped and on edge throughout reading this book, the second in this 3 book series. It picks up 9 months after the first finishes, with Clint arriving home from deployment. Again this ends without ending to continue in the 3rd book. It is intense and even more emotional than the first, you feel like he is balanced on a knife edge and he could go either way. You just hope the author will give him a break and some clarity at some point, because you end up hurting for him.
This book is in first person And one perspective only. Book 2 begins returning home after being on active duty for almost a year. Haven has now found A new life. Clint Is HEB for his girlfriend but he is dealing with emotional drama on the inside from his past and his current place in life and what to do about his future. Haven really annoyed me in this book. I know that she is only 19 years old. I also know that she is still recovering from her life from before. There is a part of the book that is never addressed and is practically skipped over. It’s when Clint’s ex girl leighlayni had poisoned Haven in the first book. How does the author to skip over ? Haven ends up in the hospital because of the poisoning and it’s never dealt with. This book is a great story but at the same time there is just one perspective and that’s why he needed more than one perspective at least have Haven’s perspective in here. I’ll read book 3 Just like this one and the one before it.
This story has more detailed than the first book. More information that has you truly engaged. I could not stop reading and I am surprised by the rollercoaster ride of emotions I experienced and I loved it. Now, on to the third book because I cannot NOT know what lies ahead for Clint and Haven. Cliffhangers are...ugh!!! ❤
LOVED this part of the story. It was so good. There was only one issue that I did not like very much but I understand why Grim (Clint) did what he did, why he made that decision and why the author went that way. I thought about it hard and I see why he did it and even though it's still wrong this is fiction and I am ok with it. I won't spoil anything. Haven was really changed in this part of the story and it was perfect the way the author changed her because when you think about it, someone that has been captive for years, abused and not really had a real life outside of being captive that would be how some would change. You have a new life, you are free so you live your life, you have fun and you want to experience things that you haven't, you are also curious if you have only had the one boyfriend... I don't blame her in what she did, I understood her completely. She is also very young and immature so it is understandable, she was just having fun. I really loved Clint in this part of the story, he was different, still possessive, protective and jealous but in the end he went back to being the Grim that I liked in the first book. I like him being a Marine, serious, quiet, strong. I also loved that he realized that Mindy was really like his mom and has been family since his mom died. He seemed very grown up and mature in this book, I absolutely loved it! Also very happy about Sir's relationship change in terms of how he is showing that he really loves his son and that he is still not over the death of his wife. The story kept me interested the whole time, not a boring moment. Still love Lordy and Glove, they are the best characters. Here is how I would like the next part of the story to play out... Grim is gone, we know that, but we don't know how long he is going to be gone for. I would like him to continue his career and maybe come back after a year or more has passed. I want Haven to be grown up, more mature, with a job and responsibilities, maybe even a successful career, maybe she got famous for some dessert she makes or something but I want her to be working and have a good job and maybe even her own apartment. She has moved on and so has Clint... then they see each other again and the story becomes a second chance romance. Regardless of what the author decides I will still read the next part, I am very curious to see what will happen next.
*deep breath* I really don't know how am I going to put a review about this. book without spoiling it but I guess I will start it by the title definition.
cha·os \ˈkā-ˌäs\ noun : complete confusion and disorder: a state in which behavior and events are not controlled by anything —this definition clearly will give you ideas of what to expect about this book. Brace yourself for an emotional roller coaster ride as Clint and Haven deals with life now that they were a couple and as Haven finally adapting to her new world. It really has been an emotional read for me specially the last part that gutted me, made me hurt for Clint and there's a certain point I want to slap a certain character only to end up understanding the situation. Another great book from Xavier Neal. I would recommend to read Havoc first in order to enjoy this book more.
Merged review:
5 CHAOS STARS!

Just when I think my heart couldn’t break anymore over Clint...welcome to Chaos!
Thankfully book 2 starts off where book 1 caused me to scream and shout! Clint is determined to protect Haven and keep her safe. Thankfully, he has the help of his makeshift family in his neighborhood to help him while he is deployed. However, when he gets back, things have changed. Well Haven has changed.
Haven has finally broken out of her shell and has begun to live her life. Clint feels like a stranger in her new life and trouble is brewing. Clint is very possessive of her and things get...heated. While I loved the fact that Haven finally felt safe enough in her own skin to become her own person, I knew she was naive to the way the world worked. Clint...pigheaded and didn’t want to see things clearly.
This leads up to extreme cliffhanger from hell number 2! Ugh! I can’t wait for more! The series is so good and I want more more more! I’m a greedy book addict like that. The writing is excellent and keeps you on kindle duty until the book is over. Well it did for me. I was ignoring kids and chores to get more of Clint and Haven.
I do want to take a minute to talk about the secondary characters. I love the makeshift family of the neighborhood. Despite Clint’s mom dying when he was young, he never went without motherly love and affection. There are a few that I wanted to smack but it is what it is. Mostly though, they were amazing especially Glove and Lordy. I want more of them! I love how they all got their nicknames! Xavier, spinoff series? *hint hint*
All in all, great series. Go 1-click today and meet the gang. You won’t regret it!
Chaos is the second book in the Havoc series and continues with Clint and Haven’s story. Clint is returning home after his deployment and finds a new and more secure Haven.

My biggest complaint is this cliffhanger is a killer and just burns me up.
Chaos begins right where Havoc ended. So much happened in this story, the characters grew and a lot of wonderful things happened between Clint and Haven as well as between Clint and his father. I liked the fact that things worked out with Haven and Clint, especially with the huge fight they had.
The one thing I can say about this book is it got me involved emotionally. There are not a lot of books that can make me cry and cheer and really support the characters yet Chaos did just that. There were times throughout the story when I just really wanted to give Haven a good shake but honestly, with everything that she went through, I sometimes couldn't blame her for how she is. Chaos is one of those books that you like yet hate at the same time: You like it because of the realism to it and the depth of the characters, you hate it because it makes you cry and hurt inside. I think that is why Chaos is a very likable story.
I give Chaos a FOUR SHOOTING STARS!! Its wonderfully emotional, with characters that were down to earth and who felt they could of been real. Xavier Neal created a story that gets you emotionally involved and ended it so you would come back for the next book.
I was given this book to read in turn for an honest review!!!
Grim arrives home after his latest deployment; he can’t wait to be in the arms of Haven. In the time Grim has been away; a lot has changed. Can they work through their changes or have outside influences made the choice for them?
Xavier Neal ripped my heart out with this book; my heart truly broke for Grim, all I wanted to do was hug him; well maybe not the only thing *wink wink*. In the ten months Grim has been gone both he and Haven have had many changes to their lives. At times I was screaming for Grim to speak up and get it over with, although as the storyline proceeds and more is revealed, I’m not sure things would have turned out any differently. Haven surprised me in this book; I wasn’t expecting the changes in her we saw. Haven’s friends Mandy and Michelle are two very different people and one you will love without a doubt, the other you will happily slap without any hesitation. Glove and Lordy just pulled at my heart even more in this book, I would love to spend a night out with those two. Insanity Book #3 here I come!
If you love contemporary military romances, with suspense and twists, you will absolutely love the Havoc Series by Xavier Neal.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review
Book two the Havoc series. This book picks up where Havoc ended. Deployment is getting closer. Grim doesn't want to leave Haven, but since he has no choice he wants to make sure she is there for him when he returns. Everyone tells him to let her use this time apart to learn what she wants and to get her life together on her own. After the whole thing with Banks and his father helps him cover it up. They are slowly rebuilding their relationship. While Grim is on deployment Haven starts school and makes new friends. She is finally learning about herself and the person she was meant to be. When Grim returns he realizes haven isn't the same person he left.
So much going on in this book. The relationship between Grim and his father, with Mindy and Haven. Haven is a much stronger women in this book. It is wonderful to see her come into her own. Except for the lack of communication between her and Grim. When one night out turns bad. Grim goes back to his former self and withdraws from everyone. At times this book brought tears to my eyes. If you think the first cliffhanger was bad. It has nothing on the one at the end of this book.
I really think Xavier Neal was trying to KILL ME with Havoc! I swear I felt every stinking emotion possible. At one point (ok, maybe more than one) I have to walk away from my kindle because I didn't trust myself to not throw it across the room, screaming nasty dirty words. So why did I give it 5* ?
Clint "Grim" Walker is strong, sexy as... sin... He is the silent, deadly type of marine that makes every girl swoon and sigh. Haven is growing, learning what it is like to be an adult woman, in a relationship with someone like Clint. Both of them have some growing, some learning and forgiving to do. Relationships aren't easy, especially when overcoming the trauma Clint and Haven both have.
Lordy & Glove are back, supporting Clint and keeping things together. I love how different the three men are and yet they are always there when needed. Mandy is the type of girlfriend every woman needs. She is loud, strong and understanding. When they all get together, sparks fly and personalities clash.
Havoc will keep you guessing. At times your heart will melt, then break into a million pieces and be put together again. You will laugh and sigh, some parts are so funny and touching. Make sure you have book 3, you will need it immediately!
While I was traveling the middle of the road for the first book in this series, I still gave the second book a chance. Chaos picks up right at the end of Havoc. The out of nowhere cliffhanger left so many unanswered questions that I wasn’t sure how this novel would begin. I’ll admit I still struggled with this book. The believability of some of the plot lines really bothered me. Grim has become more of a frustrating character than one I could like. There were so many times I wanted to reach through the books and strangle the both of them. While some of Haven’s actions don’t exactly surprise me, I struggled with her lack of remorse and ability to insta-trust a complete stranger after living in an abusive situation.
As I mentioned in my Havoc review, I think that with a little bit of work this story could live up to its imaginative premise. The emotional pieces where there for me, but I just couldn’t connect the way I would have liked to with this story and its characters. Yet, I’m not giving up and will read the next book in this series, Insanity.
I got all three yesterday and I have one left. I love this series. I can't put it down. I recommend for the mature audience
With banks gone for good. Haven is safe! So Clint feels okay to leave for deployment!
Haven starts her schooling, he thinks everything is great but when he returns after 10 months he comes home to realize everyone knows her better then he does. he feels like he is almost like an outsider and it hits him hard and he then realizes he has to tell her he is to leave in thirty days,he chickens out. It's not peaches and cream. How does he keep her when he constantly has to leave? She has a new life and no time for him. and her best friend Michele which is a man that likes her. What does Clint do?
After graduation things go even more wrong. will her new life and best friend come In between them? Or will there love survive it all?
I was on the edge of my seat with this one and I know the next one will be the same. I can't wait to read more! definitely a must read!!!

**** I received an ARC of this book for an honest review ****
First I want to say how Hot this cover is!!! It has got to be one of my favorites. This book easily gets 5 shiny stars from me. Xavier has really outdone herself with The Havoc Series. We all know that she can write about a hot MMA fighter, but her Marine is a force to be reckoned with! This is a hard review to write, cause I don't want to give you readers to many spoilers. Ok here it goes.... We left off with Haven getting kidnapped. Well Clint knows how to handle that. Yep, that's all I'm saying about that... In this installment, you are going to see CHAOS building inside of Clint and Haven. There is going to be secrets and deception. Mixed emotions of the past and future, and all together a heart pounding journey. They are linked as one, but the chain could be broken. Will we get our HEA, or will they not be able to grow together. Only time will tell!!!!
Xavier Neal writes compelling stories with complex characters. She brings you into there world and sets you on a roller coaster of emotions. My feels have taken a hit.
The second book of Clint & Haven, will emotionally drain you just as the first did. But in a good way. You feel so much, from this story, these characters. There emotions, pain, happiness, struggles.
These are books packed with raw emotion and griping storytelling. Great characters. Moving dialogue. You will be flipping the pages like a mad person.
Prepare to be clutching your tissues. And counting down the days until the next release.
Xavier Neal is a Author to have at the top of your TBR list.
I don't even know where to begin! I'm emotionally bound by these characters: the not-so-grim Clint, the flaky, yet lovable, Haven, Lordy and Glove, Mindy... I am on this emotional roller-coaster right along with them! And yes, much like Havoc, Chaos will have you screaming WTH at some of the emotionally twisted things these people do to each other! I finished the book, wanting to slap the heck out of ALL of the main characters! You know it's a good book if, even an hour after you've finished it, you still want to punch a wall, or a cheating slime ball's face! The ending obviously wasn't the END, and I can't wait to see how the author intends to resolve the mess of emotions created by this book!
I've been aching to read Chaos the second Havoc came to it's close.
Chaos is most certainly a suitable title as those are the feelings it provokes throughout the entirety of the book. At times I tried to reason through my distorted emotions that I had not heard or understood Haven's side during any of the messes their relationship finds itself. It's easy to relate to both protagonists. It's just so intense and I know it hits so close to home for the typical areas relationship's tend to wander. I wanted to throw something and I was felt pleasantly subdued at Clint's numbness and decisions.
Another 5 stars (until I read the next book hahaha).
