Unassuming law student Sadie Pratt leads a quiet life immersing herself in her books; outside of school, her only real form of excitement is researching the local flour mill and her link to its terrible history. That all changes one fateful night when her employer requests she meet with a mysterious client who will change her life in an unthinkable way.
Vincent Strickland has toured the country attempting to regain his holdings after serving a punishing sentence for his violent past. He is out for revenge when his path unexpectedly crosses Sadie's, who he believes is his former lover reborn. He will stop at nothing to possess her.
Fallen deity Thayer Aubade has dedicated his life to The Creed, a secret sect charged with protecting the innocent from monsters like Strickland. When his team is dispatched to rescue Strickland’s latest victim, the scene he discovers feels all too familiar and he vows he won't play by the rules this time.
Desire, possession, and treachery lead Sadie down a crooked path to redemption. She must rely on her intellect and inner strength for her survival... and for that of the man she loves.

Amy holds her bachelors degrees in Human Services and Victim Studies, and a Masters degree in Social Work. That might sound pretty cool, but she accidentally ended up in marketing.

Altered by Amy Stearman is not at all the story I expected it to be. The prologue alone was enough to get me excited about reading the book. Stearman will change the way you think of paranormal creatures, especially vampires. I was pleasantly surprised that she did not follow the usual stereotype while writing this story.
I absolutely loved the characters. Sadie Pratt reminds me much of myself. I felt connected to her immediately. She is a bright, pretty law student who has her world completely turned upside down after she meets a mysterious man, Vincent Strickland. Everything she thought she knew about the world around her changes in the blink of an eye. Lucky for her, Thayer Aubade is there to help her sort things out. He and his two teammates, Violet and Jason, are notorious for fighting paranormal criminals and protecting the innocent.
I wouldn’t say that there was never a dull moment in this story, but there are very few. The events and excitement throughout the book definitely makes up for those quiet times. The twists and turns will leave readers on the edge of their seats. The quirky personalities of the characters will keep you entertained for hours. There are a few “steamy scenes” but Stearman did not dredge on and on. She kept them very tasteful.
I cannot wait to read more stories from the Chronicles of The Creed. Stearman did a great job of organizing this well written story.
This was a delightful paranormal debut from Amy Stearman. Ms. Stearman asked me to review her work, and I am glad I took a chance on this new author. I look forward to additional installments of the Altered series in the future.
Even though Sadie is quite a bit younger than me, I felt that instant connection to her with her dedication to law school, working at the law firm with a bit of a demanding boss, and heart of a researcher. And while Sadie accepted with news of the supernatural with ridiculous ease, she earn lots of brownie points with me because she was not a whiny pathetic heroine and she did not fight against Thayer at every turn. Speaking of Thayer, I absolutely loved him! He was a bit of a damaged teddy bear - if your teddy bear was smoking hot. I loved that Sadie was able to help him heal, and it was nice seeing this huge man being really sweet with his woman. There were also some great secondary characters, particularly Noble, who will feature nicely in future books.
If you are looking for a quick read with a multitude of supernatural types, don't be afraid to pick this one up. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. 4 stars / 3 flames.
Full review will be posted on blog on July 2, 2015.
Sadie Pratt works for McDonnell and Loeb Law Office and is in her final year of law school when she is asked to meet with client, Vince Strickland to deal with his inheritance.
Vince Strickland is convinced that Sadie is his lost love reincarnated and will not let her go - at any cost. When Sadie is rescued by Thayer Aubade, a diety, he vows to keep her safe from monsters like Vince.
But when it is clear that Vince is playing by his own rules will Thayer be able to keep Sadie safe?
This was an interesting book but at times I found myself a little lost and overwhelmed by some of the characters and found myself a little lost. That being said I was tired when I read the book.
I really liked Sadie and found her a strong character who was trying to save herself and those she loved from Vince. Vince was an evil one for sure and he definitely had a lot of reach in getting people to work for him.
I liked Thayer and how he was ready to go to any length to protect Sadie, even if it meant bending the rules. It was super obvious how much of a connection the two of them had!!
The friendships and alliances in this book were interesting as you never knew who was going to turn on you!
Sadie leads a simple quiet life until it's turned upside down one night and she learns that there is much more in thus world than just humans. A dangerous man is after her but she's got her own hero and she soon discovers research can save your life.
I loved this so much. It gripped me from start to finish and I read it in a couple of days because I was dying to know what happened.
Sadie is a great character who soon comes into her own. I love Thayer he's exactly what all girls dream of with a few added extras.
A Brilliant story and a definite favourite of mine now.
This book is not my normal read. But the further I got, the more hooked I was. As a reader, I felt that I was smacked with a huge plot twist early on in this book and I questioned where the story could possibly go from there.
And this kept me reading for hours - only stopping when I finished the book (in one night). The story was packed with twists and turns (most I wasn't expecting). And the best part for me was that I immediately related to characters. Despite the fantasy quality of the book, I was rooting for Sadie. She immediately became real to me, and that never stopped.
I laughed. I cried. And now I can't wait for the next book. But until then, I think I'll be reading this one again. I'm sure I read it so fast that I missed many of the finer points.
I was a big fan of this book and couldn't wait to see what would happen next. Straight away, Stearman captures your attention with the prologue, and the action keeps going from there. The book features a fun, spunky heroine and a flawed but strong hero, with a great cast of supporting characters - both good and evil. I can't wait to see what comes next from Any.
I love this book! Once I started it, I didn't want to put it down! If you like paranormal romance, you should definitely read it! It's written extremely well. She doesn't insult your intelligence in her writing.
I'm sooo excited to read more and learn more about the backgrounds of the other characters!
I adored this tale of evil vamp pursuing a girl with the vengeance and cruelty. The heroine is shaken up but being rescued by dashing hero have resulted in a deep love that conquered the brutal nemesis.
Do you ever start a book and convince yourself there’s no way you’re going to like it but trudge through anyway? Were you pleasantly surprised, or woefully displeased? I recently received an ARC of Altered by Amy Stearman to review for the fabulous gals at Two Ordinary Girls and Their Books. What follows is my absolute honest review, with all the grisly details.
We begin Mrs. Stearman’s tale with college student Sadie Pratt researching Strickland Mills, a mysterious, run down local landmark, as part of her job as legal assistant to Harvey McDonnell, her godfather. Mr. Strickland himself comes to town and requires Sadie to accompany him as he surveys his holdings. Right away, I did not like Vincent Strickland at all...I kept getting very irritated and then once some things were revealed, I felt a little embarrassed at how easily convinced I was that he was just an awful character, for he is an evil entity seeking power over what he craves most….Sadie Josephine Pratt. She’s not hard to love, the red haired, orphaned legal assistant working her way through law school. At first Sadie is your basic girl next door, but once she meets her fate...she’s so much more. And can we just talk about the hotness that is Thayer? Just picture Chris Hemsworth as a son of a god, if you will. Yeah, I thought you’d like that. But I digress. There was certainly enough action and suspense to make this a page-turner, though I was disappointed in a few of the scenes, simply due to repetition of phrases and lack of original descriptors. Overall, I would recommend Altered to any paranormal romance fan, with the caveat that you might not be very happy with the epilogue and will sincerely wish it had been left off entirely. It’s not a cliffhanger, though it does leave things open for future Chronicles of The Creed installments. With that being said, I would rate this 4 stars, as I was pleasantly surprised by how compelling the story became and how much I loved Sadie, yet not thoroughly pleased in such way that it would merit a 5 star rating. 36 people reached
I was a big fan of this book and couldn't wait to see what would happen next. Straight away, Stearman captures your attention with the dark and tantalizing prologue, and the action keeps going from there.
As a 37 year old woman I tend to shy away from stories centered around college students, but Sadie isn't your average naive dunderhead. She's smart, and driven, and best of all, she doesn't view the world through rose-colored glasses. When Sadie meets mysterious sexy newcomer, Vince Strickland, a man with ties to the local abandoned flour mill - Sadie's personal obsession, due to her familial ties to its tragic history - she's instantly attracted to him. He's cold and aloof - everything I typically fall for in a hero - and right away their chemistry had me guessing how their story would play out. What happened next between the two completely surprised me, which doesn't happen often.
This first twist revealed, the book moves along at a great pace, introducing the reader to an excellent cast of characters, including the strong and tortured Thayer Aubade, who should be played by Chris Hemsworth should Altered ever get made into a movie. Thayer has a past that he's not proud of but he makes up for his shortcomings through his work with The Creed, a secret sect charged with protecting the innocent from a whole host of paranormal monsters. As Sadie is thrust into the world of the paranormal, Thayer becomes her touchstone and her lifeline throughout a situation she could never have prepared to find herself in. Action, adventure, cunning, and attraction are all mixed together in a heady concoction that leaves you eager for more.
I'm looking forward to reading further books in the Chronicle of the Creed series to see how Stearman continues to delight and intrigue readers with the lives of this first book's supporting cast of characters.
A great read! Very suspenseful, and romantic all in one book! Each character is well developed and the storyline will keep you on your toes. Simply, Wonderful!
