Cronos Rising

Rate this book
John Purkiss, the Ratcatcher, returns in book 5 of the bestselling action thriller series

On a grey morning in October, a Turkish Airlines flight explodes over Germany minutes after taking off from Frankfurt Airport. All 184 passengers are killed.

As the world reacts with outrage to this act of terrorism, John Purkiss, hunter of rogue spies, finds himself responding in a more personal way.

His employer, mentor, and friend, Quentin Vale, was on board the flight...

Cut off from his usual support system, Purkiss goes on the run, the target of a deadly assassin known as the Ferryman who will stop at nothing to achieve his aim. With assistance from his old ally, the damaged and unstable Tony Kendrick, and two unexpected - and possibly untrustworthy - other sources, Purkiss uncovers a terrifying conspiracy called Cronos, which is intertwined inseparably with Purkiss's own past, and which leads him via the Cycladean islands to Athens for a last, nerve-shredding showdown.

Spanning an entire continent, and three decades of murky history, CRONOS RISING is the latest and most epic adventure so far in the acclaimed John Purkiss espionage series.

John Purkiss is on his own. His boss, Quentin Vale sent him on a bogus op. While contemplating why he would do this, John learns that the plane Vale was scheduled to be on, was sabotaged and there were no survivors. Now the quest becomes finding out who would want to kill his boss. First step is to go where the boss was headed and try to find some clues. What he gets is almost dead, but is saved by a mysterious woman who is looking for the same answer. Meeting her was no accident as she has a video made by Vale before the plane went down, which provided instructions for what to do in case he didn't survive an attack he was sure was coming. Lots of action and more than a few surprises.

Cronos Rising is the 5th book in the John Purkiss series. Once again a well written book, complete with plot twists and turns. Plenty to keep the reader actively engaged and turning the pages. It has material which spans the decades so everything makes logical sense.
Shortly after take-off in Germany a Turkish Airlines aircraft is brought down by a bomb onboard. One of the passengers is Quentin Vale, the friend and mentor of John Purkiss. Could this just be coincidence, or was Vale the actual target all along? Purkiss soon finds out when he himself is the victim of an assassination attempt. Soon the hunter becomes the hunted, but can Purkiss turn the tables? Assisted again by Tony Kendrick, who is now quite volatile and unstable, and two other people, Purkiss sets out to unravel the mystery behind Vale's death. Who are these other two people, how far can Purkiss trust them, and are they actually who they purport to be?

Cronos Rising (John Purkiss #5)

John is on assignment, find and eliminate two rogue embedded SIS agents by any means possible. The kicker, they both know he's coming to kill them. One is lured to a Greek isle, the other already there. In route, John finds that his handler, Vale has been killed on TA-15, a bomb took down the plane, no survivors found. Hannah is tasked to help John, John recruits Kendrick and the action begins. During the action, Delatour turns shoots his way out and escapes. John keeps digging, Hannah leads him to her handler who turns out to be Vale. They devise a plan to take down a deep mole Clay, who is a highly placed member of the KGB and manager of the largest bank in Russia. How's it all turn out, read for yourself and see if the end meets your expectations. Thanks for another great read.

John Purkiss is back and is being hunted, his mentor and boss has been killed and he is next on the list, as someone is cleaning house. A good book as John calls on an old friend to help and can he trust Rebecca and Delatour.

Wow! What an intriguing page-turner! Purkiss is a fascinating man. He has a knack for piecing together a jumble of facts and finding out the truth. Vale is mysterious and interesting as well. Kendrick is a little off. I'm enjoying this series.
