THE UNMISSABLE NEW BOOK FROM GUENTHER STEINER, AUTHOR OF THE #1 SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER, SURVIVING TO DRIVE.
Fasten your seatbelts as Formula 1's favourite underdog, Guenther Steiner, takes you on a wild ride through his ten years at Team Haas.
From the first seeds of his idea to establish a new F1 team to the challenges of funding and building that team from the ground up, Guenther shares the real story of the origins of Team Haas, immerses readers in the high and lows of its first decade on the grid, and opens up about his departure from the team at the end of 2023.
As Guenther recalls his proudest achievements and the many, many disasters he has faced, he takes readers behind the scenes, into the pit lanes and garages, and out on to the circuits of the world's greatest race tracks. We spend time with drivers, mechanics, executives, sponsors, commentators and fans, and take in many personal moments too, all the while grappling with the big challenges and small details that keep the wheels of a Formula 1 team turning.
Told in his inimitable style, packed with hugely entertaining stories, outspoken opinions and unvarnished truths, this is Guenther at his very best – insightful, opinionated and completely unfiltered.
Fikk denne signert av mannen, myten legenden selv på mandag. hjalp det med å dra scoren opp? Helt klart. selv uten den boosten var det en veldig bra erindring av så mange år i sporten. Jeg fikk et litt svakt punkt for Haas etter å ha lest den, but in the end: Forza Ferrari
i attempted to do an immersive read with this one but i ended up listening to most of it.
guenther has always been my favorite team principal and i think he always will be, although james vowles is creeping up on me. i enjoyed listening to and learning more about how haas f1 came to be.
so many people caught strays in this book and it never failed to make me laugh. i think toto got the most but they’re always taking the piss out of each other, which makes it even better.
( Format : Audiobook ) "This is the American dream."
Steiner was co founder and the team principle of the small F1 team Haas. He tells of the background to it's formation and the early years which followed until he was unexpectedly - as far as the world was concerned - sacked by his financial backer. An absolute must for did hard Formula 1 fans as it not only details Haas over the past near decade but also notes the changes during that time of the sport itself.
Read by the author himself, he audio can sometimes make for difficult listening. As anyone who has followed F1 in fairly recent years, or watched the T.V. series, Drive to Survive, Guenther's first language is not English but German and Italian and his accent is strong as well as being peppered, uniquely, with swear words. But the story he tells would not be the same if told in any voice other than his own.
This book offers a super interesting perspective from Guenther Steiner as he walks through all of his F1 seasons at Haas — the highs, the lows, and the absolute chaos in between. If you’re curious about what it’s like running a smaller F1 team, this gives you a behind-the-scenes look that’s both entertaining and insightful.
Quick note on the audiobook: It’s narrated by Guenther himself, which adds authenticity, but heads up — he’s not a voice actor. His reading feels a bit stiff at times, and combined with his thick accent and some oddly placed pauses, it can sound a little choppy. That said, you do get used to it after a while, and it ends up adding to the charm in a weird way.
An excellent book to listen to! I’m not much for audio books but when I saw it was read by the man himself Guenther Steiner I thought why not. What a great book to listen to from the rise to the fall of what Haas was able to accomplish in 10 years. Here’s to hoping we see more of Guenther on the grid soon!
A hilarious, easy read that imitates Steiner’s style. Very interesting for someone who is new to the sport - like me - to get caught up on some of the history.
