Chosen by a goddess, Amethyst is thrust into a hidden world of magic, danger, and prophecy. Fueled by guilt and a thirst for vengeance, she must master her volatile magic to stop the cruel Deveaux family. If she fails the humans, wolves, and fae will fall into eternal darkness.
The premise of this book instantly grabbed me - I love werewolf stories, especially ones with witches and other magical creatures too! Alexandra’s down to earth writing made you feel as if you knew the characters quickly.
Amy and Char’s friendship was one of the highlights of the story for me, and I hope we see more of that in book 2! The character development was a bit more chaotic than I typically enjoy - the characters’ behavior and decisions didn’t always make a lot of sense to me, and sometimes they did or said things that felt abrupt or disingenuous to who they had been set up to be. That’s the main reason I couldn’t quite give it 3 stars or higher. Personally I find it harder to deal with characters that are inconsistently written than with plot imperfections, hence why I may rate some books high that others have gripes with, and some low that others love. That said, there was a lot of potential here, and I will read the sequels!
I enjoyed the dynamic of all the different magical beings - vampires, werewolves, witches, and fae were all present, along with more that we didn’t see firsthand in this book. I’m looking forward to book #2 and hopefully seeing some more detail on the fae realm, the magic system, and the characters🤗
DO SEE TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE READING!!
Animal cruelty, Body horror, Confinement, Death, Emotional abuse, Gore, Misogyny, Physical abuse, Rape, Sexual assault, Sexual content, Slavery, Suicide, Torture, Violence, Blood, Grief, Death of parent, Murder, Gaslighting, Abandonment, War, Injury/Injury detail, Classism.
Rape does NOT happen on page in this book, but is a vision a character sees but not really happening. It’s still upsetting which is why I tagged it. Same with the suicide - it’s not a traditional suicide, but it’s still a character’s choice and is tragic.
This book was an absolute pleasure to read. Amethyst's life is dramatically altered when she discovers her true nature as a witch, dispelling her initial notion of being an ordinary college student. As she embarks on this new path, her life undergoes a radical transformation. The author's exceptional world-building and character development are evident in the novel's exploration of various magical systems, mythical creatures, and themes of found family, fated mates, first love, grief, and loss. You will feel every emotion evoked within these pages. The story also navigates the intricacies of forging alliances with adversaries and the ultimate goal of saving humanity from a malevolent witch.
This is a arc review. Thanks so much . This is my honest opinion.
I really enjoyed the fantasy in this book. witches, werewolves and vampires, etc. I like that the fmc was not whiny or oddly really good at everything. she was your everyday college kid, although a little on the shy side. she was not perfect, but it was very realistic. I also enjoyed some of the other characters and how complex they could be. The spice was not what i was expecting. I wanted more. I have read books that have little to no spice and a whole lot and dark. so it could just be me. I hope to read the next book.
Amethyst believed she was an ordinary human, but she was mistaken. This story evoked a whirlwind of emotions—anger, tears, excitement. It's a slow-burn romance with a touch of spice, featuring fate mates, a witch, and a werewolf with a little twist, on a mission to save humanity from a malevolent witch. You'll adore this captivating quick read—it's both enchanting and engaging!
The story plot is good and gets better as you read. I’m still deciding if I like the ending. It isn’t typical and then sets you up for the next story. The reason for 3 stars is I felt like the character development was vague and needed much more detail. I would’ve given it 3.5 stars if that was an option. There is a little bit of spice maybe 🌶️.5
Wow, just wow. What a story. I could not put this book down. There is sadness, excitement, action, mystery, romance, humor, you name it, this book has it. Alexandra wrote an exciting story that keeps you glued to the pages. I’m usually a thriller girl myself but I also love all things mystical and magical and this is the best of both worlds for me. I cannot wait to for the next book to come out, I need it like yesterday!
A fantasy book with witches? Count me in! I really enjoyed the authors writing style and attention to detail about witch lore. I loved the character development, especially of the main character, Amethyst. The story kept me reading and I devoured it quickly! This is an author to watch out for! Thank you for letting me enjoy the experience of being an ARC.
this was an awesome book i loved how there were witches wolves vampire's and other fae introduced. it was so good I couldn't put it down. I love the relationships between all the characters and how amy struggled at first to control her powers. I cant wait to read more
I love this book! This book had very unexpected twists and turns that I didn't expect. The writing is very vivid and my mind was fully transported in the fantasy world that the author created. The ending of the book left me wanting more and I cannot wait until the next book comes out.
This book was really entertaining! I couldn’t read it fast enough. I loved Amy and Chars friendship. Everything Amy went through I can’t wait to see where the story goes!
This was such a fun read. I liked the take on all the different relationships between the factions (witch, wolves, fae, etc), and I'm looking forward to book 2.
I cried. It's fine. You'll find out why once you read it... 🤭
This book was just okay for me. I actually really like the concept, but felt it was a little too fast paced while missing some important details. The characters were likable overall, if a little inconsistent. It seemed like almost everything worked out for FMC a little too easily, I would have liked to see her have to really struggle to work through solving a problem or learning something and grow from the experience. The romance was okay, it felt a bit rushed so I had a hard time buying into it. There is a spicy scene which was also just okay, I don’t really think it was needed. The story got better as it went on, with a dramatic ending that I did not expect.
Make sure to check content warnings in the front of the book. I will add that cancer is mentioned in case you prefer to avoid that topic in your books.
This is my second ARC review and it was just so good!
I really enjoyed the fantasy setting, the friendships between the characters and the family dynamics. The plot was handled very well, and i very much look forward to the next story in Amy's journey.
