Richard Fierce is a fantasy author with a passion for storytelling that dates back to his childhood. He first ventured into publishing in 2007 and hasn’t looked back since. His books are filled with dragons, adventure, and the kind of epic journeys that transport readers to new worlds.
In 2000, Richard was named Poet of the Year for his poem The Darkness, and his love for literature extends beyond just writing—he co-founded the Acworth Book Festival in Georgia to help bring authors and readers together. Though he originally worked in retail, he eventually transitioned to the tech industry, balancing his career with his writing.
Richard lives in Northwest Georgia with his family and a lively mix of pets, including four dogs (huskies!). He often jokes that his house feels like a zoo, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
His love for fantasy started in high school when he was gifted a copy of Dragons of Spring Dawning by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman—a book that sparked a lifelong love for dragons and epic quests.
Whether he’s writing about dragon riders, lost civilizations, or ancient prophecies, Richard Fierce continues to craft stories that pull readers into unforgettable adventures.
This story is short, and really pulls a person into it. I can Not wait until the next book is available on Audible. The Narrator does a Great job with the various characters voices and the entire storyline.
🎧 Audio Review: The audio is enjoyable and the narrator does an excellent job on the variety of character voices.
📝 Story Review: This trilogy is episodic in nature and each audiobook is about 2 hrs long. I recently listened to another series by this author (Marked by the Dragon) and absolutely loved it! So I decided I’d give a few of his other dragon series a try as well!
This story had a slower start to it in my opinion, but grew interesting in the latter half. While it hasn’t completely gripped me, it’s become intriguing enough to keep my attention.
In this first episode, we follow a girl named Kai who is about to be united with her dragon for the first time. But things don’t go as planned at the Choosing and she’s basically cast out. But she’s destined for a purpose bigger than she knows and just because things didn’t go as planned, doesn’t mean she won’t bond with a dragon again.
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3.5/5
Vibes: Intrigue, fate and destiny, greater purpose!
Tropes 👇
- Bonding with dragons - Good vs evil - Finding your purpose - Fate/Destiny

4 STARS. A short, enjoyable read — or in my case, listen (~2 hr audiobook). This is a YA fantasy following a young woman’s journey as a Chosen — someone who’s been selected to be a dragon rider before birth — who must first meet and bond with her dragon to become Sworn — dragon riders that defend the empire from it’s enemies.
There were some plot twists I expected, and some I didn't, but the end had me reaching for the 2nd book immediately. Keep in mind that because the story is so short, there is a much heavier focus on plot than world building or character/relationship development. Personally, I didn’t mind this, but I think that might be because I was listening to it as opposed to reading it.
Pick this up if you enjoy: ► Dragons ► Prophecies ► Plot-driven storylines ► Quick read
This book is almost as good as "The White Dragon" by Anne McCaffrey and that is saying something quite profound in my opinion. This personal opinion by no means disrespects the author of this book. I am merely stating, the story has affected me almost as strongly as the book, I just mentioned. The characters are powerful, especially the second dragon, the plot is easily followed and straightforward. Finally, the premise is finding out if the main character is meant to save or destroy her country. I definitely highly recommend this book.
Enjoyable fantasy adventure of the dragon-school variety, featuring a chosen one hero (bet you didn't see that one coming, did you?) Except.... something seems to be wrong with her chosen-ness because she's the only one who can't hear her dragon.
A solid lower YA fantasy, appropriate for the genre, although I found myself wishing for a bit more character development in between all the fun plot action.
I love dragons in the books I read, and I thought this was one I could really get into. However? It seems like the story is somehow lacking, especially as far as the feeling of connection between the characters. Conversation doesn't flow but is stilted.
Just feels like this is a very inexperienced writer who hopefully will get better in time.
Book 1 was a fun read and had a few errors throughout. The plot and characters are developed well. The plot has a fun twist and is a bit predictable in places, but overall is a fun read for being so short. I look forward to the next book.
Good short story. Straight to the point, no dilly-dallying with unnecessary detail and soppy background stories and page fillers. definitely carrying on with the series. also highly appreciated finding a fantasy series minus the steam. very refreshing
I couldn't believe how short this was, but the audiobook was just over two hours. It feels, more like a Part One to a book, but not in a bad way. It's about a dragon rider getting her dragon. With some surprisingly good twists. imo.
