Part One of a Three Part Serial - Contains Cliffhangers Contains strong sexual themes/language.
Forced to offer herself to a dragon to save her sister, curvy Serena finds their first encounter confusing, and intimately satisfying.
Yet she has learned to trust no man, they hurt and control you, and this beast of a dragon can't possibly be any better. Or can he?
Can it be possible that the creature she has been taught to fear, is the one she must learn to trust? Unfortunately there may be no choice for Serena, because she soon realises she can't save everyone.
Serena is faced with a stark choice, gain control of the dragon, or lose her sister forever
Oh, and there's just the small matter of the dragon child she might already have conceived.
“Why? There are thousands of women to bed. And why you would want to bring one more of us into this poor overcrowded world is beyond me.”
“You wouldn’t understand.”
“Try me. Before she gets you killed, tell me what it is that compels you to want to breed with her, when you know it’s a trap.”
“Because I’m tired.”
Zoah laughed. “Tired of living?”
“Yes. In a way, I’ve lived for three thousand years, and I cannot see the point in living more unless there is something more.”
“You, Connor, are having a mid-life crisis.”
“Maybe. At least I know the estate will be left in your very capable hands if this ends badly.”
“Oh, Brother, there is no doubt in my mind that this will end very badly. I only hope you don’t intend to drag me into this mess. Humans are for using up and spitting out. No more.”
“We’ll see, Zoah.”
“Well, I’ll leave you to watch your mate. At least she’ll be broken and obedient. It looks as though she’s had plenty of practice.”
He turned his gaze back to her. The men had gone, she was curled up on her bed, he couldn’t hear but he could tell by the rise and fall of her body that she was crying, big heaving sobs.
As Zoah took off into the night, all he could think about was how he wanted to rip the heads off of these men who tormented Serena.
Zoah was right, something inside him had changed ...

Absolutely delicious! Soul Of The Dragon is the first book in the Her Dragon's Bane Series by Harmony Raines and I just love it! Who doesn't love dragons? Right? The story is exciting, thrilling, riveting, compelling, addictive, original, romantic, arousing and sensual. The dialog is smart and flows well. There are a few editing errors but overall, well written, hence the reason for only 4 stars. The characters are fascinating, captivating, imaginative, engaging and sexy. Serena has lived a miserable and violent existence. Having been born to a selfish and uncaring mother, she now finds herself and her sister Charlotte, basically sold into slavery to Samuel, an evil and violent man. Serena has been beaten, tortured, abused and branded and has always submitted to the demands of the evil Samuel, all to protect her precious little sister. But the one thing he never took was her virginity. That he needed to entrap the dragon. Sexy Connor, a magnificent dragon, is 3000 years old and he's tired of being alone. He has no one but his younger brother, Zoah. He desperately wants a child. And he wants Serena. He knows she's his mate but he also knows that she has lied to him about how and why she has come to him. Yes, she was still a virgin and in order to conceive, his mate must be a virgin and he must be the one to take her virginity on the moon alter. But he has watched her for quite some time and knows she has secrets. He has secretly watched the men torture and abuse her and if she would only open herself to him, tell him her secrets, he would help her. And now she may be carrying his child. He must convince her to trust him! But how? Is Serena there to kill Connor? Can he convince her to trust him before it's too late? Can Serena learn to trust again? Will her love for the dragon be enough to save her from her date? Or will fate claim both their lives? Sexy dragon-check! Beautiful maiden-check! Mystery, suspense, danger and romance-check! Fabulous entertainment and a great read!
Wao! Great read, packed with adventure, intrigue and romance. Likeable characters and despite been there to betraid Conor I am rooting for Serena. Can't wait to read the second part of the story. Will Serena be able to trust Conor with her secrets???? Highly recommended
I was not impressed with this short story. This story is only 71 pages long and it seemed that a lot was sex scenes. I may be in the minority but I prefer to read a book that has a good plot and not just sex. I have several of her other story lines that I really like. I had high hopes for this. There are still several books in this story line and I am hopeful that they will get better.
Interesting tale of Serena trying to save her sister by offering herself to the dragon, Conner. A virgin sacrifice in order for him to have a child. Good story but I was disappointed with the cliffhanger ending.
Soul Of The Dragon (Her Dragon Bane Series Book 1) by Harmony Raines. Serena offers to have a baby for the dragon Connor because she has been told to by the person holding her sister hostage. They not only want the child but the dragon too.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Serena’s story starts with high emotional stakes and a gritty setup—sacrificing herself to a dragon to save her sister. The dynamic between her and Connor is intense right from the start, and while it’s a shorter entry, the cliffhanger keeps you hooked. There's pain, power imbalance, but also the spark of a deeper connection. A strong start for lovers of reluctant-but-destined romance.
I'm a big fan of anything dragon, so of course I had to read this when it popped up as a recommendation. After an abrupt beginning, the character development and background info progressed easily. The interaction between the two main characters flowed nicely with a mixture of sizzle and tenderness. The only negative aspect I could find was the cliffhanger, but the author warned the reader beforehand, so I expected it. I enjoyed it enough to buy all three books in the series.
Just to reiterate, this book is for those who enjoy some man/woman sexy interaction with a bit of bringing the bad guy low, action thrown in for good measure. A tolerance for short stories with cliffhangers a must.
This book is quite a nice beginning for a serial series. The storyline is developed nicely, with enough background info to show the reader why Serena and Connor behave as they do; it's longer than many other serial books I've read - I like that! I enjoyed reading this book, and am definitely looking forward to reading more as the series continues. Harmony Raines has imagined an interesting way to bring dragons into the contemporary world.
Wow! Imaginative and cunning. I've never read about dragon shifters because I thought it would be just too hard for me to digest. This series has caught me completely off guard. So not what I expected but I enjoyed the story. It's the modern world meets the dark ages! Who knew I'd find a dragon hot?! The editing is absolutely horrid but fortunately it has not taken away from the story. Can't wait to see what's next for Conner and Serena...
This was an OK story. The story is set in more modern times than I thought and this wasn't divulged until towards the end of this 1st book which meant my brain had to 're-imagine what I had pictured. I would also have preferred much more characterisation for Connor, Selena & Samuel. A abrupt start of a story but not quite enough of a pull to make me want to read the next book.
When Serena goes to Connor, she is hopeful that she can get through being with him. Her lot in life was predetermined, but not by her. She was forced to save herself for the dragon. She was also told horrific tales of how she would be treated by him. There could have been nothing farther from the truth. He is everything she could have ever dreamed of!
Well written and very entertaining to read this book. Original and enjoyable with plots in plots. Will she do what she needs to, to save her sister? Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Part of Kindle Unlimited. Part 1 in series. Cliffhanger. Good start with twists that come out during book. He's a dragon shifter who has been hiding from mankind. She's sent to have his child and take him to the man holding her sister. Ends with a major cliffhanger paragraph.
A five star rating is as high as I could rate. This story is totally awesome. Lie to your soul mate to save a younger sibling, What to do. Right or wrong ? Thank you
